GM Sapphire Fox |
A charred orc corpse hanging over a pool of blood accentuates the
grisly atmosphere in this befouled shrine. When the Rotten Tongue orc clan settled here, they desecrated this sanctuary to Torag and rededicated it to Nulgreth, the orc god of bloodlust and fighting. Broken
implements of bloodletting and torture lie on the
bloodstained stone alter. The ceiling is 20 feet tall.
those who failed Ashara and Mykel, even with the +4 from Periel, you both are Panicked for Duration: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 2) = 7 rounds
A panicked creature must drop anything it holds and flee at top speed from the source of its fear, as well as any other dangers it encounters, along a random path. It can’t take any other actions. In addition, the creature takes a –2 penalty on all saving throws, skill checks, and ability checks. If cornered, a panicked creature cowers and does not attack, typically using the total defense action in combat. A panicked creature can use special abilities, including spells, to flee; indeed, the creature must use such means if they are the only way to escape.
however the growling is readily heard and is quickly followed by a stream of acid (would have been a cone but the hallway)
I need a reflex save from Hydris, Periel, and Calypso
Half damage Acid: 10d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 2, 6, 5, 3, 6, 3, 5, 4) = 40
Calypso: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Hydris: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Mykel: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
Periel: 1d20 ⇒ 1
Valandil: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Ashara: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Creature: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Tie break Calypso: 1d20 ⇒ 17
Tie break Valandil: 1d20 ⇒ 3

reflex: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
What does the creature look like? I don't see any description.
know planes: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16
Assuming I don't learn anything that would make this seem like an extraordinarily bad idea...
Despite his severe acid burn Hydris steps forward and unloads a full set of arrows at the strange creature.
longbow: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15
bludgeoning damage: 1d6 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11
Rapid longbow: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 26
bludgeoning damage: 1d6 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
Sudden longbow: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21
bludgeoning damage: 1d6 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
If the 21 misses, using spirit surge to add spirit surge: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Valandil Anwamanë |
Valandil summons a ball of fire and rolls it down the corridor towards where the acid came from.
Flaming sphere,
fire damage, ref DC 19 to avoid: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 4) = 13
GM Sapphire Fox |
Standing on the other end of the hallway is a large dragon, though it doesn't look like a normal dragon.
Hydris you really don't know anything about it, it looks like a dragon
Hydris hits once with the 26, even using his spirit surge
Mykel drops he is holding and just runs screaming out of the room
Calypso Nyx |
Is there any chance we're playing an encounter from the wrong tier? I mean, 2 of the party are panicked and the rest of us just took 40 dmg on a DC 21 Reflex save. I failed it and am dropped in 1 hit. Valandil posted an action, but he's also unconscious. Hydris has 5 hp. This is a TPK.
reflex: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
EDIT: I forgot I have false life up, which absorbed some of the dmg. Also, I should note that I'm 40' away from the 'dragon'...most cones are 30'.
false life: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
GM Sapphire Fox |
I know, this is a "Special Dragon" its why its a knowledge planes to ID it, and this is not a 30' limit, this isn't a cone at the moment, the hallway turned it into a straight like, so only Hydris, you and Periel needed the reflex save
Valandil Anwamanë |
SR,elf: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 6 + 2 = 9
know(planes): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (19) + 12 = 31
Well that doesn't bode well for the sphere, but thematically I guess that helps him to identify the dragon...
GM Sapphire Fox |
The sphere doesn't actually seem to work against it, though it does help ID the creature
Valandil you know this creature as Skeshnil a Nightmare Dragon, and I'll give you 2 things about it
Ashara Lethani |
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!" says Ashara while running away from the dragon...
That's why playing out of subtier is risky... That's said the only thing Ashara can do is running
Valandil Anwamanë |
I'll take special defences and weaknesses.
Calypso Nyx |
Saved only by her false life spell, Calypso maintains her feet.
Unsure whether to laugh of cry, she recognizes her grievous wounds and moves from the room, then draws her healing wand.
move action from the room, move action to draw wand
GM Sapphire Fox |
Valandil kowing some of what this creature is, you know that it is Immune to Mind-affecting effects, paralysis, sleep, spell resistance (20), and damage resistance 5/magic. unfortunately you don't know of any weaknesses
GM Sapphire Fox |
the creature is actually going to 5' back and hold an action
Periel is going to go up to it and attack, triggering the readied action
bite: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (17) + 19 = 36
damage: 2d6 + 12 ⇒ (5, 2) + 12 = 19
I take it Periel that it is a +1 katana? I will figure in the damage as it is unless you say otherwise

It seems as if the paladin would fall but in that moment hero´s defiance is cast. Hero´s Defiance+LoH: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 1, 6) = 14
Periel takes a deep breath."Blade, to whom I dedicated my life, now strike once true."
Attack: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (18) + 18 = 361d8 + 20 ⇒ (3) + 20 = 23
Attack: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (2) + 15 = 171d8 + 20 ⇒ (3) + 20 = 23
Confirm: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (4) + 18 = 221d8 + 20 ⇒ (1) + 20 = 21
GM Sapphire Fox |
Periel Comes back with a vicious blow does not confirm crit and as his blade swings around on the second strike, he drops the nightmare dragon as it dissolves back to its own plane defeated
~End of Combat~
after exploring the room, you notice the body of one of the three sisters layed upon the altar, though undamaged she and the blade were what you were sent down here for.
I will have the Chronicle Sheets up in a moment, and I will have the game logged shortly
Well done everyone!!!
Mykel Therinor |
Good job guys...especially you Periel...you carried the weight those two combats when I couldnt get in there and when I bolted....and thanks for running this ! It was fun!
Valandil Anwamanë |
"That was a most fearsome combatant.." notes Valandil.
"It must have terrorized the countryside for miles around."
Many thanks for the game. This certainly is a deadly dungeon.
Ashara Lethani |
"AAAAAAAAHHHH... Ahem... Well done Periel and everyone else! Honestly I hope you'll forgive my performance as I feel I feel like I didn't contribute much to our heroic endeavour..." says a contrite Ashara once she's regained her calm and returned to her companions...
