Ok, so Profession *3, Diplo *1? Fantastic.
Ok, everyone. We're going to make it this time. We can make it if we all agree to work together. A new life is waiting.
After doing his best (awful) impression of the Vice-Admiral, Erasmus scurries awaya and begins making preparations.
Gods above, I am a terrible speechwriter.

Four weeks go by in mostly pleasant weather. For some reason, the crew just couldnt maximze their wind intake and ended up tacking a good portion of each day.
Still, the work was mild and the sea air bracing, and though his mental facalties were much diminished, the Vice-Admiral availed himself of the opportunity to set sails, tie knots, and swab the deck along with the best of them.
Soon enough, the Amerysi coastline looms into view.
Where are you heading exactly, and what is your plan when you get there?

Mortimer Talinth |

Mortimer gives a small breath of relief as the coastline is seen. A trying mission, but it all came together. He finds the others, gathering them up. "There will be much asked of us upon landing. Esther and Erianna, I suggest the two of you take the Vice Admiral and take him to the best healer we have in the city (Mortimer will give a name and directions if he knows anybody). Erasmus and I should go back and report what has happened."

The Vice-Admiral between them, Erianna and Esther walk him into the military hospital where a tall, lanky orderly recogizes him immeditely.
"Prepare! The Vice-Admiral is injured! Clear a room! Joanna!"
She scoops up the big man with surprising strength and spirits him a short way down the cooridor to an empty room.
Not a minute later she returns. "What's happened to him? Spare me nothing. I need to know it all if I'm to help him."
Erasmus and Mortimer and ushered into the command tent where Commodore Westley Smoot stands waiting behind a table.
"Report."

Mortimer Talinth |

Gotcha DM.
"Erasmus and I proceeded with the mission as planned, and soon learned the tunnel lead to the kitchens where they were preparing food for the slave auction. In one of the adjacent rooms we discovered two newly captured bed slaves, Erianna and Esther Pennycoat. We could tell by some of their...remarks that they were not compliant slaves, so we freed them and they agreed to help us with our mission. We than infiltrated the slaver ring with the two ladies being entrepreneurs, myself being an investor, and Erasmus my bodyguard. The ruse worked for a time, but when Targ the Twice Taken arrived on the scene he quickly saw through our facade."
"A battle ensued between our small group and the slavers, which was long and dangerous but in the end we prevailed, killing Targ and his two main followers, along with some various guards. I sent Biel to check on the Vice Admiral, as he was sieging the harbor for a distraction, and Biel urged me to come so I teleported over to the boat, then saved the Vice Admiral from falling to his death. I returned the same way to the rest of the group, but the Vice Admiral was -and is- in a broken down mental state. He is currently being seen to by our healers."
"We rescued as many slaves as we could, taking them onto the boat and sailing for foreign lands to resupply before our return trip. We met difficulties, as we bribed the dockmaster to keep us quiet but the Magistrate learned of our presence and had us arrested. After a tense meeting we managed to defuse the situation and leave before things got any worse."
Mortimer pauses for a moment. "One last thing. There is some man by the initials R.R. that was the one who made the attempt on the Vice Admiral's life as well as supplying the Magistrate with a pair of manacles that cut off my magic. He left this note, as well as one with the Magistrate that said "she would need them today." I fear we have a spy."
I can't remember all of the details without reading through the entire gameplay thread again, but Mortimer would use as many names and details as he could remember.

The Commodore nods along with the tale. "Some obvious shortcomings, but all in all, a successful mission. We will look after the Vice-Admiral and put as much manpower into this R.R. person as we can. In the meantime, I need you two to find those sisters and and see if they'll join us in an official capacity. We have a mission for you."

Esther Pennycoat |

she says before turning toward her sister well now these steps would be a good place to start she says smiling

Mortimer Talinth |

This post is assuming we can find the girls without any trouble. If that isn't the case, just let me know and ignore the IC portion of the post.
~Before finding the girls~
Mortimer pushes back his lank hair, exhaling slowly, then he turns to Erasmus. "No rest for the weary I suppose. We should be highly recognized once all of this is over though."
~With the girls~
"Erianna, Esther, how did it go?"

Erianna |

As esther heads out for the exit.
easily managed? Dam, erianna do you think that she was lying to us? Not that i really care, we acheived what we both set out for and got the revenge we craved. she says with a smile
"I'm guessing it is not the orderly that will take care of such castings, but even so... The fact that they have such divine magic readily available to them is quite surprising" - Erianna retorts as the sisters return from the military hospital - "He is a vice-admiral after all though" - she smiles.
At the mention of revenge, the woman's face takes on a darker tone - "Targ was a beast - both in combat and out of it - an animal. I am happy that he was put down as such" - she clenches her teeth - "I hope we at least made a dent on the slave-trading through our combined efforts with Erasmus and Mortimer"
"Erianna, Esther, how did it go?"
Erianna smiles at rejoining both of her companions - "The vice-admiral condition is a grave one indeed, but we were assured at the military hospital that the necessary measures for his recovery would soon be underway. So it actually went quite well - and your reporting?" - she questions.

Mortimer Talinth |

"It went as well as expected, the only things that are truly against us are two casualties and the Vice Admiral's condition." He looks at Erasmus briefly. "I'll be blunt. My superiors are impressed by your abilities and would like to know if you would consider further work with us."

Esther Pennycoat |

We will be right here with the answer as you leave the hospital she says smiling

Mortimer Talinth |

Mortimer sits close enough to the front to see where Erianna and Esther are, so he knows when they are done conversing, but still inside and far enough away that he can't hear them. With the downtime he begins his paper report of the mission, where he goes into tedious detail of everything.
Mortimer finishes the front page, his hand muscles too practiced to get cramped, but he takes a small break for a drink anyways. He knows how his eyes can get strained. He takes a small sip, looking at Erasmus. "We should locate the Stonecast family and inform them of what transpired."

Erianna |

We will be right here with the answer as you leave the hospital she says smiling
** spoiler omitted **
Erianna looks at her sister, a smile playing on her lips - "Always it has been like that, has it not Esther? You know my mind, maybe even better than myself - you know how hard I trust that order can play a role as important as free will" - she looks as the men move away - "Slavery is the perversion of all I believe in - it twarts hopes, beliefs, freedom, law and order, all in a single swoop" - the woman clenches her jaw - "You wanted to speak, but you already know my feelings" - she smiles at her sister again - "We have a chance to do the right thing here... Not only that, we have a chance to make a difference. And you know also that I cannot walk away from that"
Moving away just a tad, the woman draws her scimitar and stares at it - "I want you there with me Esther" - she speaks, her eyes still on the blade - "Will you come?"

The Commodore shrugs. "We can accept contracting...consultants at this time. Very well."
He moves to the table and unrolls a map, pointing to the Tharon Hills. The road from here to the capital runs through these hills, and well, we have a problem."[/b]
"As you know, you are fighting a war for freedom on many fronts, and to withdraw from any would make us seem weak. It could invite an invasion and we cannot afford that now."
"This is problematic, because there has risen in these hills a troupe of bandits. They are random in their attacks and never in the same place twice. One day they'll take out a diplomatic convoy and the next they will let it pass."
"The rumors are that they are led by a very capable woman. We suspect she's had Amerysi training, and what's worse: she may have magical abilities too."
"We know there are deserters, ex military, and some foreign refugees from Thelkon in her company. If that were not enough, all the stories speak of red-shirt mercenaries fighting with her forces."
"Your mission is to track them down and eliminate the threat. You will be outnumbered and fighting on their turf."
"I wish the situation was less dire, but we must have free travel to the capital if we hope to hold this country together."
"Questions?"

Mortimer Talinth |

Would Mortimer know any more about this supposed deserter? Perhaps a knowledge check?
What is a red-shirt mercenary?
Mortimer folds his hands carefully. "Are there reports of their attacks? I would like to study who their victims are as well as their attack patterns." He turns to the girls with a small grin. "Perhaps I can play the role of a rich man again."

![]() |

Command doesn't know who the leader is. Just conjecture.
Roll KN: Local for info on the mercenaries.
Commodore Smoot nods. "They've attacked, in order:
1. A merchant family moving from here to the capital. Killed them all and took nothing as far as we know.
2. A shipment of armor and weapon bound for the Thelkonese front. All our men we subdued, only two died. They did take all the armaments though.
3. A squad of seasoned troops: 12 trained soldiers. They were sent out there to find and neutralize the threat. The bandits harried them like desert fighters all the way to Port Maverick. 5 made it, they're in bad shape.
4. A military payroll. Close to 50,000 in gold. We need to recover as much of this as possible to pay our men.
5. Lastly, Governor Norbet and his entire retinue we relieved of their clothing and set free to continue on to the capital. They harmed no one. Now that is just cruel sport.
Their tactics change for the situation presented. I would advise you to stay off the road and look for signs of human life. If you bring them to you, you don't stand much chance.

Esther Pennycoat |

Have all the convoy all pass trough the same town? they need some sort of informant in order to know whet and where to attack
Esther will make a circle out of the farther point of attack and will try to measure an are of operation for the bandit.
