"No, not friends of Licktoads." Ayame said softly. "Come on out, we won't harm you." She promised.

Sarhashil looks genuinely confused and distressed. What's a Licktoad? Why did the lights stop talking and now there is something under the bridge that Monty didn't alert him too....just what the hell happened to the Goblins...and does he still need to punch something?

He looks at the Monk nearby....He looked like he could be Punched. If the others could see the poor Nagaji's mind going full tilt, they'd understand the dilemma he was in. He seems to go cross eyed and goes a bit in a stupor.

Raiyume will sheath her sword, to see if it helps entice the voice out from under the bridge. Wisely, she decides to keep her words to herself and let the ones more skilled in wordplay handle it.

A mud covered head with pointed ears pokes out from the south side of the bridge. The brown and gray mud almost completely covers it, but a couple patches of green poke through around the ears. It has large pointed teeth, and through the mud, you can see it's face has a number of strange shaped raised blemishes that look almost like runes.

"You help? You protect? Use pointy stick on Chuffy?

Ayame knelt down so that she didn't tower over the newcomer. She waved him over, smiling softly.

A friendly goblin... Oh they are never going to hear the end of this.

"Are you Chuffy? I am Ayame. What pointy stick do you speak of?" She asked gently.

Davlamin offers a hand too the new one. Hello there friend, he says. How may we help you?

"No, no! Chuffy bad. Chuffy try and put pointy stick in Scribbleface. You can put stick in Chuffy?" After he says "Scribbleface", you notice the raised "runes" on the goblins face look more like normal Taldan letters than arcane runes.

"I see, now why would he try to put pointy stick in you?" Ayame asked as she pulled out a handkerchief and began to clean the goblin's face. "Is Chuffy part of the Licktoads?" She adds.

"Chief Gutwad say Scribbleface no Licktoad no more. Scribbleface has book. Chief say book steal thinking from heads. Throw Scribbleface and Stinktail into swamp. Scribbleface find new home under bridge. Then Chief send Chuffy and others with pointy sticks. Stinktail want to fight, but Scribbleface scare with lights to hide."

The goblin retracts from the hankerchief. "Tall one ruin Scribbleface hiding plan."

Ayame puts the handkerchief away when he pulls back from it. "So you wish to learn to read then? That is why the Licktoads kicked you out?" She asked to ensure she was correct in what she was gathering. "We are here to stop the attacks being made with the fireworks." She began to explain before she realized he likely had no idea what fireworks where. "The thing that shoot colored fire." She said trying to explain better.

"They steal Scribbleface fire! I find in water house. Chief Gutwad tell them to take fire. Then tell them poke me with sticks to find more. Scribbleface only one fire left." The goblin pulls out what looks like a fireworks tube from a pouch.

"Chief want all the fire. Make tribe strongest tribe."

Davlamin thought for a second. This Chuffy wasn't reasonable, even by goblin standard. Say Scribleface. Do you think the Licktoads need a new chief? One who reads?

"No Licktoads read. Kill any who read. Licktoads put fire on Scribbleface books. Fire on whole house. Smoke not want Licktoads read. Want Chief Gutwad be chief."

Noticing the muddy goblin, Gozzamer and Kobo keep to the far background, knowing his presence might be a detriment.

Dav nodded a long. If I beat Licktoad cheif who is new cheif? Davlamin asked transitioning to goblin. I am two licktoads up, would I need fight two licktoads to be next cheif?

"Test of Smoke pick new chief. Smoke pick Licktoad, Birdcruncher, Seven Tooth, and Mosswood chiefs. One day, maybe make big chief over all chiefs."

The goblin seems to be salivating even more than normal for one of it's kind, and occasionally steals glances back at the main party.

Davlamin pulled down his bag, and pulled a piece of dried meat from his rations, offering it to Scribbleface.

Must only Licktoad Goblins take Smoks test? Or any one? Could ork? Get biggest cheif? Big Orc that makes all Licktpads read?

The half orc offered a smile.

The goblin snaps at the meat, and Dav has to pull back his hand at the last moment so that he has a hand full of Goblin saliva and not goblin teeth. Scribbleface swallows the jerky without chewing, continuing to look back through the party.

"Maybe Scribbleface has gnome also? Scribbleface not get eat gnome in long time."

Sarhashil blinks and squats when the talking mud appears. He stands there watching the interaction for a bit before he finally breaks down and attempts to poke the mud goblin.

The goblin looks disappointed at Dav's words, as he gives somewhat of a scowl. He jumps back from the poke. "No attack or Stinkycat fight you!"

Dav gives a harsh look at Sarhashil.

Sarhashil looked positively alarmed when it jumped and yelled at him. "I no attack mud man....I make sure he solid." he said after a bit. It's true, they were just fussing with lights after all.

The goblin glares at Sarhashil as well, and gives a whistle. "Stinkycat, you make sure that lizardman no touch." A mud covered black and white rodent climbs out from under the bridge and looks to be staring at Sarhashil. It keeps its tail poised in the air as it watches.

The goblin looks back at Dav and Ayame expectantly. "You go kill Chuffy now?" He examines his arm a moment, finding a leach among the caked on mud, plucking it from his arm and popping it into his mouth.

"If you could tell us where he is, and Gutwad as well. And maybe even where you found the fire." Ayame told him. "And do you happen to know where we might find a halfling named Warden?" She asked.

"Chuffy go that way. Scribbleface hear coming and hide under bridge and make lights to scare." The mud covered and scarred goblin points along the trail, in the direction you are heading. "Gutwad at Licktoad village. It that way too."

The goblin thinks for a couple moments. "Fireworks come from water house. Past Licktoad Village. Evil witch live there. Halfling past water. No bridges. Must swim."

Raiyume looks out at the water and clucks her tongue. "Yeah...I don't know about that one."

From the back of the group, Gozzamer chimes in, with a little hesitance in his squeeky voice.
"Well, I guess we go with our original plan: Kobo and I are going to swim to shore. Anyone else coming?"

All of you are close to the shore along the "bridge" now. No swimming required. I made a longer post in discussion.

Sarhashil blinks a bit as the muddy "stinkycat" has appeared. He tilts his head and stares at it for a bit trying to figure it out.

He starts making odd noises with his mouth and tries to coax the cat closer so he can pet it.

Handle Animal: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21

The muddy skunk creeps towards the nagaji's outstretched hand and begins sniffing at it. The goblin fails to notice at first, but then lets out a yell at the creature, No Stinkycat! He bad! He poke! Probably want eat you." The skunk ignores the goblin as it continues to sniff around Sarhashil's hand.

"I think it is the smell that is attracting him!" Ji-hwan grins and eyes the bank contemplatively. "What say we move to dry land?"

Sarhashil smiled and thought for a minute before pulling out a bit of the spider leg and snapping some off to try and feed it. He grinned and took a small bite before handing it to the skunk. "You is good mud rodent. Yes yes." he said as he reached out to pet the muddy creature.

"Thank you for your time Scribbleface. We'll take out leave now." Ayame said as she slowly stood up. "With luck you'll never have to deal with Chuffy ever again." She told him.

"If we take the new fishing trails we could possibly speak with Warden and maybe get more information about the area. Do you all agree that it would be worth it?" Ayame asked the group.

Gozzamer nods with Ayame, mainly because it distances himself and Kobo from the goblin that wants to eat him.

Raiyume glances around. "Do you think we can find our way back out from here? Perhaps it would be easier to press forward than to turn around and go back."
Raiyume looks around, trying to get her bearings.
survival: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17

It would be worth it yes, but there is another thought. What if we took over the goblin tribe. Dav said with a strait face.

The goblin picks up the skunk and heads back to it's hiding spot under the bridge, presumably keeping clear of the other goblins that are hunting him down.

1) You know the Licktoad Village is somewhere "ahead" on the trail.
2) You know Chuffy went in the direction of the Licktoad village.
3) You know the "New Fish trail" will require backtracking your way across the bridge, and out of the swamp, then reentering the swamp from the north side.

Totally up to you which way makes more sense in the short and long term for you.

Sarhashil waves goodbye to Stinkycat before he turns and looks over at the others. "You want pet goblin? That one that left seems good. Chief doesn't spoil goblin tribe, goblin tribe spoil themselves. Only good ones like that leave tribes." he said as his only real point of argument.

The gnome looks up at the nagaji brawler, with a non-plussed expression, as if to say that is the most stupid thing I've heard today.
"The goblin did state that he wished to eat me. You did hear that, correct?"

"Take it as a compliment friend, you look delicious. That is surely something to be desired yes?"

Gozzamer changes his observations from the nagaji to the tian male, as if to say Nope. THAT is the most stupid thing I've heard today!
The gnome hold his wolf companion a little closer, and mutters under his breath, "Desna, preserve me!"

"Dav...by chance, did you think that through, long term? What happens if/when you leave? Wouldn't the goblins just return to doing what they were doing previously? Leading a horse to water and all. I'm not saying that you shouldn't try, I'm just asking you to think about what's going to happen down the line."

Raiyume looks over to the group. "Personally, I think we should press on with the trail. We didn't get dressed up for nothin', " remembering that Ayame actually did get dressed up for this outing. "And if it's anything, Gozzamer...I don't think you'd taste good. Too woody; you'd need a lot of garlic and honeyed walnuts," Raiyume says with a smile.

"Not only do I not want to take over the goblin tribe, the very idea kinda... hurts." Ayame said honestly as she gave a shrug. "Besides what would you do with a goblin tribe? You'd never be able to take them to town, not after what they've done. No one would ever trust them, not to mention you'd have to sleep with one eye open always." She reminded him.

"And yes. they eat people. That is a common every day thing to them so... there is that..." Ayame said as she pointed to Gozzamer. "Just like Gozzamer-san said... He asked to eat him and that is a rarity." She stated then quickly added "The fact he asked, not the fact he wanted to eat him."

Its the highest compliment if a Goblin asks too eat you. But I informed our goblin friend that we all eat our vegtables, and we non goblins are what we eat. as for leading the tribe, we give it too our friend who at least asks, broker treaties, and lay down goblin law. It was just a thought. Davlamin said. We could take the test of smoke, and be victorious, but I agree leading them would be difficult.

Sarhashil looked at the Half orc and then back at the Gnome. He had not heard the goblin mention eating...perhaps he had not been paying full attention. He tilted his head as he tried to comprehend the idea that eating someone could be considered the highest compliment.

He decided to give this particular social etiquette a try. The paladin seemed most receptive of other cultures, surely he would not complain. He stood up and walked over somewhat slowly and simply walked up to Davlamin and his forked tongue flicked over his cheek. He thought for a moment.

Profession Cook: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

He made a sour face. "I would use strong flavors to compliment your meat, maybe potatoes to help soak up the strong taste. Best as stew I think. Maybe use peppers too, you seem good as spicy dish...curry?" he said finally.

Assuming this show will get back on the road following the trail.

After crossing the bridge, the trail picks up, heading deeper into the swamp. Although you are sure you are heading away from the water source you crossed, you still hear occasional splashes to your right as you walk along the trail. You see several more glimpse of what looks like red eyes through the fog, watching you as you travel. They seem to disappear as quickly as they appear.

Raiyume will try to keep a little ahead of the group, keeping her eyes open for perceived dangers.
