Whenever I run a game around christmas, I deliver the characters gifts via the most ripped reindeer ever, with burning embers gusting from its nostrils and it may or may not breathe fire. No one's tried fighting the advanced infernal reindeer, but they have enjoyed the gifts he leaves them.

...do the gifts cost their soul?

My players were once going through a dark and terrible dungeon on Christmas, and found a fat guy in red in a cell.

...they stole his Bag of Infinite Toy Holding.

You want in character gifts from a flying fat man in a red suit with a bag of holding? How about frog legs for all...?

Just waiting on a post from Tavir to keep things moving. Obviously, with the holidays, I'm not putting any time table on it. Have a blessed Christmas everyone!

Sorry all. Kidnapped for Christmas. Im throwing up a post as soon as I finish writing this!

Good morrow all. I hope your holidays went/are going well. I had a thought this weekend, that I think will make things easier for all of us going forward. One of the most cumbersome things that I've experienced in my other PbP games is when characters are talking in different languages. A frequent way to conquer that, that I've seen, is to use Google translate, and post the words in an actual world language that exists. While that does provide some great visual appeal, it can get clunky and sometimes just interferes with the flow. So, for the purposes of this campaign, I'd like to offer up the following solution.

When a character is speaking in another language, simply do it like this.

Bromir turns to his bosun and says,

Elven Language:
"Good thing we had these new recruits aboard, or you'd be frog food."

This way, we are only ever writing things in English, but it is still clear that the character was speaking in a different language. Other PCs that don't speak that language would understand that their character doesn't know what was said, but they, the player, can read things.

Sound good?

Thanks!

Sorry all, came back to work after the long weekend to a pile of stuff I was not prepared for, and my partner in crime out with the flu. Which means I've been bogged down with RL stuff. I have a lot of stuff I need to get through every day this week, but I will try my best to get a post up at some point. This is fair warning that it might not be until Friday afternoon.

As you can imagine, Hack is of little assistance here. I would more than likely best serve the group by investigating the surrounding flora snd fauna for clues.

Well, you have pretty good Perception Hack, so you could indeed aid in the investigation that way.

Let's have a discussion about who would be the best negotiator and the best lead investigator.

I add 6 to persuasion, 1 to perception, and 2 to investigation. I'm guessing I'm likely among the best negotiators in our group, but it's possible we have someone better.

As far as my plan for negotiating goes, I'm leaning towards suggesting that we wish to pay our respects as representatives of the Senator and that we each wish to offer the blessings of our unique peoples to their daughters

(i.e. I would offer a Tindaran blessing which would require me to lead the parents through a tea ceremony, while Luna could say that she wishes to surround them with flowers to ask her people's deity for their blessings and could physically examine the body while doing so; Hack could lead several toasts with the rest of the funeral-goers; all of which would allow us to interact with the body in a way that seems respectful if a bit overwhelming and would allow us to perform our investigation without interruption or being called ghouls or the like.

Jun, that is an awesome idea! Such great narrative power in those roleplay elements. I'm giving you inspiration just for the suggestion of such a narratively focused program of investigation!!!

Jun's plan does sound like a great idea! I'm on board as well. I am at work and cannot access my character sheet to see my numbers in those areas, but I'm guessing that Luna would NOT be any good for any kind of social interactions. She probably could do a mediocre ceremony of some sort as suggested.

I'm having a VERY SLOW day at work and the evil Sup that got me in trouble for internet usage has been moved to a different dept. My current Sup thinks it's ridiculous to fuss about internet usage, as long as I am available to answer my phone ... so, Yay!

I still can't see my actual character sheet here at work because I can't access my Google Drive, but from the info I can see on my player's profile I have no other numbers to help with anything.

Mended, I have not seen any results posted in regards to anybody's rolls/checks? Are you waiting for all of us to post our actions I'm guessing? According to what I am seeing, if your waiting for posts/role=play from all 7 party members, we are still lacking Tavir & Baen if I'm correct?

Or what are we waiting for?

I will assist as needed but I don't see an immediate thing I CAN help with.

Mostly waiting on Tavir, I figured he'd have something to offer to the current situation. Baen has checked in twice already to let me know he's around, but didn't see any place to fit his skills in the mix just yet. I'll give Tavir one more day to get a post up, if not, I'll move things forward.

Okay everybody, heads up. It's possible we've lost Tavir. If that's the case, the retcon of his defecting the party would be written in as happening BEFORE you all came out to the Sehtoru farm. That's important because...

I need a watch order. Of important note. Long rest, which must be a period of 8 hours, in D&D 5th only requires that a person sleep for six hours. The other two hours of the rest could be spent as part of a watch shift, preparing spells, praying, maintaining gear, etcetera. (As a DM, I am fine with a person being "on watch" and preparing spells simultaneously. For me being on watch, simply means being awake and aware while the rest of your party gets to rest.) This is enhanced further in your group by the fact that you have two elves, and elves need only trance for four hours instead of the full six of sleep. The rules do indicate though, that even though an elf need only trance for four hours, they must still "rest" for the entire 8. The rules do state that no character can spend more than two hours of their rest "standing watch" in order to gain the benefits of a long rest, but, like I've already said, for me, if someone is awake, even if they are reading a book (which is called out in the rules as part of resting activity), they still get to contribute their Passive Perception score to "watching" for threats. So, I guess, what I'm saying is, I see a distinction between "standing watch" and "being on guard." The elves in the group can "stand watch" for two of their non-trance hours, and then "be on guard" for the other two while doing other "resting activity." Make sense?

Let me know if it's clear as mud, I'll try and clear it up. Regardless, we will need a watch order set, especially since we've got some tricksy people setting up baited traps... :)

I imagine Nikeisha would either go first or last, so she doesn't break up her sleep (Something I personally hate doing, so she likely will too). Warlocks are, as usual, unusual in that they get there spellslots back after a short rest.

Unless the Elves do it all.

I already stated I would take a watch, we just need to decide on an order of who is taking what watch. I suggest we try to make a decision on this and make it our 'S.O.P.', which I don't thin Mended will be opposed to. Considering I have to go into a trance, I'm thinking either the beginning or end of the watch as well, but I know nobody ever wants to take the middle watch. I do suggest those of us with Darkvision taking a middle watch though, so I will volunteer to be a middle watch.

As I mentioned in my post earlier I plan to spend the entire night laying flat on my back though. Again, pretending to sleep, in case something comes around so I can try to catch it/them by surprise hopefully? Mended? What rolls do you want me to make? In-game of course!

Wow... great question, because "bluffing" would normally be a Deception roll countered by a creature's Insight... But you are trying to pretend something that is entirely physical, and you're a monk, which means you have more control over your body than most normal people... I'd be inclined to say roll an Acrobatics check, and I'll set that as the DC for anything to notice that you aren't actually sleeping, because it uses your Dex mod and gives you your proficiency bonus, which I think you should get in that situation. What do you think?

Um ... ignorance of 5E again, proficiency bonus? My acrobatics is + 6 so if you will please just add my proficiency bonus, unless that's already included in that + 6?

Sound good? - Pending Ashrie's okay of course?

EDIT: I just know Nikeisha just loves the idea of sharing a watch with Hack! Hahaha! :D *** But I am trying to spread out the darkvision during the darker hours.

Ooooh oh oh!!! Love it. Your in-game posts about the "what I think it could be..." options are so great! I won't say why they're great, that would tip my hand. Loving it. I'm going to give Ashrie until tomorrow morning (when my morning at work starts) to pipe in about watch order, and post his post about making the magical locket if he so desires. If not, I'll move things forward. Stinks about that low roll for the pretend sleep Luna, but... maybe it doesn't... Mwa ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.
