Okay so I’ll admit, I’m not exactly following all this but I’m as ready as I need to be I guess, but did I hear something about a vampire possibly??? Kristoff joins Corwyn in food and drink before leaving, and picks up 20 Silver Arrows, a wooden stake, and 2 potions of cure moderate wounds. Kristoff is surprisingly quiet for the boat road, he goes through all his arrows, mark the end of each different set of arrows with a different color. When they arrive he excitedly “Pecks” the ground, and scans the area. Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
Ya with they way it looks out here, there should be more damage... Kristoff responds to Yanda.

At Yanda's word of caution, Corwyn stops and looks around in wonder. "Do vampires live in caves, do you suppose? I wonder why the trail goes right up to it. Seems strange, doesn't it? Or maybe it's the home of some old hermit that travels to town a lot. But that doesn't make sense, does it? He wouldn't be a hermit then. Hmm... You're right though, it does seem a bit odd. Where's all the bits and pieces of the trees that should be strewn all over the place? Looks to me like a dragon came through here. Hey! Maybe that's what's living in that cave? Is that possible, do you think?"

Corwyn eases in the direction of the cave, his eyes trying to pierce the gloom of the entrance to see what might lie within. If the dragon is sleeping, maybe they can steal some of it's treasure before it wakens. He'd read a few stories like that in his youth, though he has forgotten that usually such thieves quickly met with a gruesome death, or at least a horrible amount of trouble from their efforts.

Corwyn darts forward, trying to take advantage of the cover provided by the ridge to avoid any more arrows for the new few moments as he draws the exotic, disk-like weapon that hangs from his belt.

Since I move after the hyena, I wasn't sure if you wanted my action right away or not. I went ahead and copied a second token of myself and moved it into the spot on the map where I'm headed on my action this round. Double move 60', hunched over and trying to use that ridge for some sort of cover from any further arrows. Ready chakram on the move.

Question regarding the map, it looks like that's a fairly steep and tall slope that would require a Climb check or something along most of its length. Is there any point along there where it just becomes 'difficult terrain' or something to climb up? Or do we have to move all the way around it to avoid a Climb check?

Jack of Shadows always thought hyenas were cool. He could talk your ear off about them.

He recognizes the other creature as what was once a gnoll - but one that has been mutated almost beyond recognition by the poisonous power of the Mana Wastes. There is a bit of a syndrome to such mutations, and Jack knows a little about it...(you are entitled to 3 questions about the creature).

Corwyn scrambles up the slope, freeing the chakram from the hook that keeps it attached to his belt. When he reaches the top and finds the weird-looking humanoid a short distance in front of him, he lets the weapon fly. "Shoot me from ambush, will you? Not very sporting!!"

Ranged Attack Roll (Chakram): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 61d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

But Corwyn slips as he crests the rise and the path of the disc-like weapon is far off the mark. "Dammit! Hey boy, fetch!" He calls out hopefully to the mongrel.

Sounds like movement on the map is unrestricted, so 30' move toward the bad guy to get within range of the chakram, drawing the weapon on the move and then standard attack against the humanoid (mutant gnoll). And a fine start to my combat roll with a double roll of '1s' :(

One possible scenario plays out in his mind, and Corwyn chuckles at the idea of the ugly dog fetching his chakram. But the slope is too steep, and so the swashbuckler holds onto the weapon for now in his buckler hand, his blade in the other, and moves along the ridge, trying to use it as protection from further arrows until he pops up on the far side.

Sorry about that! Double move, holding the chakram in his off-hand (with the buckler) and his rapier in his main hand. Will stick close to the slope and even move hunched over a bit to gain cover (maybe just partial cover if not full cover) from any ranged attacks.

Corwyn clears the ridge and moves directly toward the ugly dog and the deformed-looking creature beside it, several steps behind the paladin. Angling to get a clear shot, the swashbuckler flings the chakram at the hyena, figuring that the mutant monster might switch his aim to Talondreal. Besides, the paladin is blocking his shot a bit, and throwing the weapon to hit the archer is pushing the range of the chakram to its limit.

Think I've got a clear line of sight to the hyena for a ranged attack, though it's at 60' so at the very limit of the chakram's second range increment. Would have been -4 to hit the mutant gnoll and I'm thinking Talondreal might provide it a bit of cover anyway from my angle.

Corwyn is ready to counter the attack of the hyena with his rapier, should it decide to come charging after him...

I'll post this out of turn, since it's an immediate action I have to call before seeing an attack roll, but IF that hyena attacks me this round, will use Opportune Parry & Riposte, using both of my Panache points (though the second one is used only if the Parry is successful). I'll hide the results below so it won't impact your decision one way or the other.

Opportune Parry & Riposte:

Parry Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Riposte Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25 vs hyena's AC (+1 additional to attack roll for AoO attack for Fencer trait)
Riposte Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 piercing damage (+1 additional damage for Duelist trait)
Crit Confirmation: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9 vs hyena's AC (+1 additional to attack roll for AoO attack for Fencer trait)
Extra Crit Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7 piercing damage (+1 additional damage for Duelist trait)

The half elf, feeling the thunk of an arrow enter his body, will charge at the archer and strike at it with his elven curved blade

Talondreal charges up like the Paladin he is...only for the hyena to be ready. She leaps up and audibly shatters Talondreal's leg (see her previous action, a readied attack, two posts up)! Faith and momentum enable Talondreal to score a big, deep wound on the mutant before he passes out....

The mutant, for her part, reels from the blow; it looks like she hasn't felt a wound like that in a very long time, if ever. She glares blearily at Yanda, and fires...

longbow vs Yanda: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

...there is an ugly *splrt* sound as her arrow forces a small fountain of blood out of Yanda, and the mutant snickers...a sound which turns to a wheeze...which turns to a gurgle...as she herself falls unconscious in an expanding pool of her own green ichor.

Despite her moment of triumph, the hyena is perfectly aware she is outnumbered. With her mutant companion down and dying, she flees into the wilderness.

YOU WIN But now there's the matter of saving Talondreal....

Talondreal (-21, unstable)
Yanda (-7)

Remarkably, both casualties in this fight were brought down to precisely 0 hit points and pushed over the edge by their standard action. Never quite seen that happen before!

"Well, we were warned about this very thing happening in the wastes. I suspect there were more than a few travelers that did not fare as well as us. Shall we check out the cave?"

Yanda marches back down the path, her spindly body disappearing behind the wall of earth to reappear a few minutes later hauling the wheeled 'mule', her fly-away hair waving in the gentle breeze. The longish delay caused by a thorough check to make sure everything is in its proper place, a habit she developed after the goblin mission.

Corwyn retrieves the chakram, then glances around at Yanda's words. "I don't see any vampires. But yeah, let's check out that cave. Could be something interesting in there." He cleans off the weapon on the clothes of the mutant creature, then searches its body for any valuables. "What is this thing anyway? Looks a bit like that ugly dog that ran off."

The mutant's noteworthy possessions consist of: A quiver with 16 arrows remaining, a plain chain shirt, a crude but functional spear, a composite longbow (+2 Str), a gourd full of milky liquid that Yanda immediately recognizes as a simple healing potion (cure light wounds), and a surprisingly nice climber's kit.

Survival DC 13:
You notice the shoeprints of a tiny humanoid leaving the nearby cave, perhaps a very young Human or a Halfling child. There is no corresponding set of footprints entering the cave.
