Terribly sorry about my non-participation of late. O/T was worse and longer than I anticipated, and just as I was sticking my head up out of the hole (I got ONE post in on ONE game), my group got "Columbo'd" and I was sucked back in again.
On the bright side, my O/T obligation ended with 2015, and the usual Spring upgrade cycle won't happen this year. So, I should be "good to game" until the Fall at least.
If y'all are still willing to have me, I'd love to get Ralf back into play. If not, I'll understand.
Either way, here's wishing all of us an awesome 2016!

IF? Pffft! You ain't goin' nowhere, pal! :-)
I think we all got "RL'd" in Nov/Dec. Here's to a good relaunch to the next chapter. Now, I just gotta finish the up-leveling...
Ralf Tergsvor |
Thanks. Warm fuzzies.
I saw a reference to that, are we leveling up? I didn't spot where Karl said anything about it (though admittedly, I only skimmed).
I just leveled one of my PFS PCs, I'll need a little while to do Ralf. (Doesn't need to delay the next chapter though, I know where I want him to go and can "wing" the needed changes until I get his sheet updated, if necessary.)

I'm still reading through the next mod, guys. I'll try to get an intro post for part 2 up tomorrow.
Yep, level to 3, Ralf.
Re: salary/requisitions, the AP generally puts the PCs right at WBL. So you've got a total of 3000 gp in combined salary/requisitions available right now.
Now I need to go calculate the team's Prestige.
karlprosek |
Hmm. We do still have Shane, right? It's not a big deal at the moment; this is going to be an RP scene for a while, so there's no urgency.
Speaking of which, this mod is going to be RP heavy with a focus on investigation instead of fighting. Figured I'd let you guys know there will be a lot of talking and not so much assassination and fortress-storming.
Ralf Tergsvor |
Then you really want Shane. ZenFox42 ran some "forensics-heavy" adventures locally and I was a total waste of a player slot, but Shane's player was flat-out awesome.
I know he cut back on his gaming when he started his own PbP campaign, but I think he's still aboard The Turning Wheel?

I added a map of Flint to the game header. Note that the RHC HQ is in Central District. To get to North Shore you have to travel through Bosum Strand.
Time is somewhat an issue in this mod, so keep in mind that it takes about half an hour to move from the middle of one district to another by carriage. Going by that rule of thumb it takes an hour to get to North Shore because it's 2 districts away from Central.
Going by steamboat halves this time, but you'd have to call in a favor.
A couple more things. First, remember that sustained flight is supposed to be impossible in this campaign world. So if the victim thought she could fly she either had very powerful magic or was deluded.
Second, the coins don't work off the island. Jaelynn's theory is that the island is a weak point between planes, allowing the elementals to hang around and the effects to work.
I also added the team's current Prestige rating with different groups and a brief explanation of how to use Prestige to call in favors in a spoiler on the campaign tab.

Monologue translation: We now all have telepathy across Ralf's network. As long as you're in the Collective (which implies being in range, too) and Ralf has it turned on (I see no point in turning it off, normally), you can think thoughts at an individual collective member or any combination of members.
Essentially, that allows silent group discussions/orders as well as private communications between individuals, at a distance (Medium range). With Ralf midway between two of you, that stretches silent information transfer to 260'.
I sure wish we'd had that when we were taking the seawall/tower. :o/
In another game, the players decided that since telepathy trumps language...
When a vitalist reaches 3rd level, all willing members of his collective (including the vitalist himself) can communicate with each other telepathically, even if they do not share a common language.
... quirks associated with language should go away. So the dim fighter's grammar got better, accents disappeared, and so on. I'll leave how it plays here to you all (including the GM). Granted the "Gronk smash!" barbarian piping up with, I say old chaps, it's high time for a spot of tea, eh what? is amusing, but I can see where it could be damaging to the "vibe" as well.
So, discuss amongst yourselves. Telepathically, if you'd like. :o) And let me know if anything's unclear.
Oh... one clarification. The psicrystal isn't part of the Collective. Telepathy with it is because it's an aspect of Ralf. So only Ralf "hears" what it's "saying" (for now), and you'll only get what he's thinking back at it if he also intentionally broadcasts it over the network.
Ralf Tergsvor |
Oops, do we need to explicitly state our requisitions? (I thought the paperwork covered that! :op ) Ralf had some gear upgrades and I simply updated his character sheet, was that wrong?
Jaelynn Vance-Saerpheni |
Yeah...
Requisitions and Spells... need to finish those.
Quick Q: is that 3k in NEW Requisitions, or 3K total, including stuff we already have? (I'm rushing out the door to a meeting, and can't check the WBL tables just now)

That's 3k total.
Guys, I just want to point out that this mod relies heavily on the PCs doing stuff like finding clues and following up on leads. If you don't want to do that maybe we could skip this one and move on to one that has more of a defined path and more combat. The third mod is more of a typical adventure- monsters attack, PCs find out where they came from and then they hunt them down- and it's almost level appropriate (level 4 to start out).
Would you prefer to skip this one and move on to the next?
I'm not making any judgments or criticizing, just noticing that you don't seem as engaged with the first scene here as you were last time around.
Aziel Charbonneau |
I'd like to continue this mod if everyone else does as well - I just wasn't sure whether it would be wise for Aziel to interview witnesses as an ex-Danoran, so I was waiting on a cue from other players. Of course, it's probably a better idea than having her deal with Julian Lebrix, all things considered...
Post up in a bit.
Jaelynn Vance-Saerpheni |
I don't mind this one - I've just been scattered a bit, and haven't really dug into this one yet. I'd be just as slow to start the next mod, sadly.
Gimme the weekend to get my feet back under me, and I should be more engaged.
Ralf Tergsvor |
Hey now, Ralf immediately hit the officer with key evidence-gathering questions! :op
I don't mind investigative scenarios, I'm just not very good at them. But I won't get better if I don't practice, no?
Shane Sangster |
Shane will have to adjust his requisitions. It's been a busy week and I will get caught up this weekend and try to respond more quickly. Sorry for the delay.
I don't mind evidence gathering scenarios, with one exception. I've played sandbox style scenarios where if the players don't happen to think to look in certain key places or for certain key types of evidence, the whole game can bog down and it gets frustrating. As long as there are ways that things will keep going and we won't be stymied if we don't hit on the ideal evidence then I'm fine with it.
Shane Sangster |
It's been almost two weeks with no posts. I posted what I could for the situation and have been waiting for GM response. Could we get an update on everybody's situation and availability to play? I'm still available and interested in going on, if we can keep up some momentum. If we need to put the game on ice while some work through RL situations, I'm okay with that too.
karlprosek |
Here's the deal, guys. Work has become ridiculous over the past couple of months. I've been hoping that it would calm down and I could go back to my normal posting schedule but that hasn't worked out. I've cut down my number of games here on the boards because I just couldn't keep up anymore.
That said, I would like to keep running this game if you're still interested in playing with me. It will probably be slower than it was in its heyday, but I'm going to work hard to keep it going if you guys are still interested. Anybody still here and want to play?
Ralf Tergsvor |
Shane's player is also GMing an AP now, so that'll eat into his availability. Which is a shame because he's pretty strong with investigative type scenarios.
Aziel Charbonneau |
I agree, Shane's player was a real driving force behind the last game I was with him in. I hope he'll come back. It looks like all of us have crazy schedules at the moment, so maybe if he knows he's not alone on that point...?
Ralf Tergsvor |
Given that Ralf is... Ralf... it's probably best he stay downstairs and let Shane work his diplomagic unencumbered.

Ralf Tergsvor |
Okay, here's a thought. This isn't metagaming, I just don't want to clutter Gameplay with it if it's not useful. If y'all see any value to it then Ralf can bring it up IC over the mindlink.
Ralf's psicrystal can see and hear, and even sense telepathically out to 40'. And it can move under its own power if Ralf wills it some ectoplasmic spider legs. And it's small.
Best of all, it's telepathic with Ralf out to a mile. See where I'm going with this? I wish I'd thought of it before Shane split off from the party.
Maybe there's a way we can stash Meff away somewhere and use it to bug a room/listen in on conversations after we leave. Or it can snoop around under its own power if we know where to send it.
The guards will just think it's rats in the air ducts. ;o)
Thoughts, anyone?

Jaelynn Vance-Saerpheni |
Hey guys.
RL has dealt some crappy cards lately, and to top it off, I somehow got logged out of the message boards, so whenever I *did* have a chance to check, I didn't see any update indicators, so thought there wasn't anything to respond to.
Apologies.
I'll try to get caught up and have Jae do something in the next few days.
Jaelynn Vance-Saerpheni |
Just realized that I hadn't actually finished leveling Jae up (spell selection and gear). I'll do that soon.
Karl, did you have Jae cast Detect Magic, or use her See Magic exploit?
See Magic (Su): The arcanist can see magical auras. If she expends 1 point from her arcane reservoir, for 1 minute she instantly recognizes magic item auras and spell effects (as detect magic). During this time, she is treated as if she had studied each aura for 3 rounds and she treats her Knowledge (arcana) skill check as if she had rolled a 15 on the d20. In addition, if she touches a magic item during this time, she can immediately identify its properties using Spellcraft without needing to spend 3 rounds examining the object.)
This would give her an effective 26 on her Know:Arcana to identify stuff. I'm fine with burning the AR point (in fact, that's the way I'd have done it, had I been here to make the choice), unless a Know:Arcana that high would have messed up your storytelling, for some reason. In that case, say she cast Detect Magic, and I'll make sure she prepared that cantrip today.

Gods of the internets, please let my connection remain stable now. I will make a holy sacrifice of an ethernet cable.
Also: yes, I think we can head back and start requisitioning a Speak With Dead, unless Meff uncovers something fantastically new. Or someone else has a better idea?
