Two groups are going through this.
For some reason I set up a second game thread for Group 2, but not for Group 1.

Cursing the undead, Darion raises himself up and looks around for any signs of "life" in the hall.

Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15

The scruffy ranger peeks suspiciously into the hall at the lavish banquet, expecting at any time to be thrown out by those who don't serve his type.

Perception 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (1) + 16 = 17

I guess the fall was more serious than I thought, and the earlier explosion probably didn't help.

Isn't there a skill check to Negate or dampen falling damage?

Samson picks himself up off the others and helps them up. "sorry about that guys, I just wanted us all to stay together"


An Athletics check will allow you to grab a ledge to stop a fall from happening, but I'm not sure it really applies in this case as you wanted to fall. I'll allow an Acrobatics or Athletics check DC20 for you to land properly and not incur the damage.

Neither Darion nor Norrin can see anything unusual - assuming you regard finding a tapestry filled feast hall at the bottom of a portal usual.

History may also be helpful here, along with Arcana and a better Perception check.


"What an odd sight. This can't be real..."

Darion stubbornly looks on, attempting to spot anything he may have missed during his first hasty scan of the hall.

Edit: Apparently I'm staring at the back of the room wondering where everything is :P


Darion notices a floor and walls. Somewhere above he is confident there is a ceiling as well.

Levana scans the room with her bow at the ready.


Out of the corner of her eye, Levana could swear she saw the figures in the nearest tapestry moving slightly.

Darwyn picks himself up and dusts himself off. 'I'm really starting to wish I could fly. All this falling is becoming a bad habit.'

He then goes to inspect one of the feast tables, jabbing a piece of meat with his sword.


Give me a position please, Darwyn. And an Arcana check.

The piled food is freshly prepared and both looks and smells delicious.

Norrin goes to J28 and studies the nearest tapestry, hoping it will jog his memory.

Samson follows his friend to J29 and begins to study the tapestry.

History 19 + 16 = 35


Darion steps into the main part of the hall with the rest of the group, hoping to get a better look around.

"The back wall seems safe enough..."

Let's try this again. Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9

Edit: Forgot to tell you my position. Just put me at M29 staring directly at the ceiling or the floor. 1s twice...bleh


Norrin and Samson move to take a closer look and notice some interesting features. The first is that the figures in the tapestries are clad in armour and wielding weapons from many different periods. Ancient and modern mingle in a dance of death.

The second, and more important issue is that the tapestries are moving.

Entering a square adjacent to a tapestry triggers it. It rolls init and makes at attack v Reflex against each living creature within reach on its turn.
On a hit, the target takes 10 ongoing damage and is slowed (se both).
First failed save; immobilised instead of slowed (se)
Second failed save; target and all gear are drawn into the tapestry becoming part of the lifelike image. Such targets are treated as petrified. Sections of tapestry containing characters can be cut down and carried away. Remove Affliction will restore them to life.

Roll init please and place yourselves on the map if you haven't already done so.

The shifting form of the tapestry combined with the smell of the fabric makes the ranger nauseous, causing him to run towards the other side of the room. He catches a glimpse of light from the corridor beyond the far wall and fires an arrow in that direction.

Minor: Declare the tapestry as my Hunter's Quarry (if that's possible). Move to L22.
Use Skirmish Shot to move to another 6 squares to Q19 and firing at S4 to hopefully make a hole to escape.

1d20 + 17 ⇒ (9) + 17 = 26 vs ??; 2d10 + 10 ⇒ (5, 3) + 10 = 18 damage.


You can do all that, but events will eventuate as a result. I've got live gamers coming around any second, so your update will happen later.


Norrin hurls himself towards the centre of the Feast Hall, firing an arrow at the surprisingly resilient fabric.

As he approaches the central fire, the white flame suddenly dims, a haze of smoke and darkness rising to take the form of four mournful figures. Their indistinct forms tak to the air on wings of shadow as they attack.

Slightly confused, as usual. Are there three whisperers or four? Is the shrine the fourth winged figure, and is it mobile?


Three Whisperers. One Nighthaunt Shrine. All four can fly. All four will be moving to attack as soon as they get the chance.

Ok, thanks. Odd usage of 'shrine' threw me, but I know it's not from you!

Lyan leaps into action, vaulting the table toward the waiting Whisperer then, in a blink, appearing next to the Nighthaunt Shrine, dazing it with his flail.

Move 5 around the table to K23. Trigger attack from tapestry. Regardless of result, Shadow Step/teleport (which does not provoke, nor is affected by possible slowing) to O19, cleverly flanking myself. Minor: Battlemind's Demand on Shrine, marking it until I change. AP (which makes me insubstantial and phasing TEOMNT): Knifing Wind vs Shrine, aug2. On hit, target dazed TEOMNT.

1d20 + 16 ⇒ (14) + 16 = 302d10 + 8 ⇒ (7, 2) + 8 = 17

Rounding the table, Lyan brushes past the tapestries and launches a devastating mental attack on the Shrine. The creature boggles, unable to resist.

Tapestries don't make OAs. They can only act on their turn if there are any enemies adjacent to them.

The tapestries are the long thin lines throughout the room? Are the walls lined with tapestries as well? How high are they? Do they block line of sight? Thanks


Sorry about the lack of clarity :) The tapestries fall from floor to ceiling and do block line of sight. They line all the walls, and some of them (as you see) are hung at intervals throughout the Feast Hall.

Are the tables and benches difficult terrain or impassable?


You can climb over the tables and benches. They're full of food but they only count as difficult terrain.

Two whisperers are pushed away from the companions and into the firepit. As it did before their appearance, the flames burn brightly once more, but the creatures themselves take no harm and do not disappear.

Darwyn whispers deeply, his voice raising suddenly in an almost unnatural timbre he strikes at the whisperer in fornt of him with a deadly lyric upon his tongue.

Slayer's Song: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (11) + 15 = 26 vs. AC
2d8 + 8 ⇒ (1, 4) + 8 = 13 damage, and the target grants combat advantage to Darwyn and his allies (save ends). Miss: Half damage. Effect: Until the end of the encounter, whenever you hit an enemy, that enemy grants combat advantage to you and your allies until the end of your next turn.

Samson unleashes his mighty breath upon the tapestry, hoping thats is magics do not effect its vulnerability to Acid.

The outcome of my minor may affect the rest of my actions. I will try to check regularly to keep this going. Do I have line of sight to Lyan, Levana, Darion and Norrin? I don't know how far down the tapestries hang.


Samson melts three sections of tapestry and considers his next move.

You can see Lyan, Levana, Darion and Norrin's legs. The tapestries stop just above the floor. Line of sight for effects, but they have cover.

I just realised the latest errata increased the bonus to Will at Paragon tier to +3, so my Will Defence is now 24.
