Moving into the room, and realising too late that she probably should've put up some defensive spells earlier, Valeria lashed out with another gout of flame through two of the monks.

Flame Arc targeting Yellow and Teal, DC 14 Reflex Save for half damage.

Reflex Save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14

Both monks twist and drop to the floor, managing to evade the gouts of flame.

They spring to the attack, two swarming Kavell with punches and kicks...

Red Flurry 2: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23

...with one monk missing with a wild punch and accidentally kicking Kavell in the shin as he flails to regain his balance.

The other monk's fist is partially deflected by Suishen and grazes Kavell's ear.

The other two monks recognize Valeria for the mage she is, and decide to focus on her first. One tries to leap past Kavell...

...and gracefully sails into Valeria's personal space, greeting her with a flying kick.

Unfortunately, he doesn't stick the landing, falling prone.

The last monk forgoes the flashiness of his partner and opts to punch her in the face.

He asked as he stepped back shaking his head slightly to clear it from the blow that struck near his ear. He also didnt want them to somehow surround miss Valeria.

He focused for a moment and let the magic of the blade focus on his defense before he stabbed downward at the prone foe.

Kasha embraces the spirit of battle with a primal roar that washes over her companions filling them with an almost predatory penchant for violence

The missiles crash into the monk, but don't seem to slow him down much.

He paused and glanced back out in the hallway looking for the dangerous coal shoveler to make sure he was still well there.

He briefly picked up his holy Symbol and paused channeling energy from it to help heal his friends wounds.

Glad to feel her nose fixing itself via Kavell's magic, she quickly prestidigitated the blood away before going over the monks. Something about the magic in their amulets seemed familiar but something was eluding her.

Walking over to crouch beside Valeria as she studies the amulets, Kasha hits upon a flash of insight. Though not nearly as skilled as Valeria in magecraft, is somewhat naturalistic nature of the amulets made it easier for her to understand their purpose.

Friday moves to the western door.


This austere room contains a simple pallet and clay drinking bowl. Its only nod to ostentation is a beautifully painted lacquered screen bearing the images of clouds and mountains rendered in a fanciful style.

The lacquered screen is clearly Tian in style.

It looks like the screen can be moved.

Friday takes a few moments to admire the screen before gently moving it.


Behind the screen is a small leather trunk. It's unlocked.

Inside are:
--A set of washerwoman's clothes;
--A disguise kit that appears to have seen some use;
--An ornate blowgun fashioned from jade and lapis lazuli (worth about 200 GP);
--150 gold pieces in Tian coinage;
--A writ signed by King Sveinn Blood-Eagle that that gives the bearer the authority to commandeer any of the Linnorm King’s huscarls within 2 miles of Kalsgard for up to 12 hours;
--A lacquered-black chain shirt at the bottom of the trunk.

DC 20 Spellcraft (Chain Shirt):
A +2 shadowed chain shirt.

DC 16 Linguistics (Writ):
Upon closer inspection, you realize that some of the longer words in the writ have been misspelled. It's likely that this writ is a forgery.

Friday promptly removes the worn leather armor about his chest and slips on the chain shirt. "Indeed, they seem to follow orders rather well here."


The next cell Friday investigates is empty.

"Nicely done Kavell!" Kasha adds, drawing her sickle in the event there was a nasty surprise awaiting them.


The corridor beyond the secret door has been hewn from the native rock. It's easy to see that this corridor is of more recent construction than the rest of Ravenscraeg.

A stairwell lies at the end of a turn in the corridor, with another door on the eastern wall standing just outside of the secret door.

Valeria carefully brought up the rear, hoping the troll behind them didn't change his mind about coming after them.


A brazier in the corner of this room glows faintly with red coals, its smoke reminiscent of the stench of scorched flesh. A short bed with a headboard carved with the image of an open-mouthed demon stands against one wall, and a small table cluttered with books, scrolls, and a stuffed and mounted stirge sits across from it. A magic circle has been scribed in center of the floor with chalk. Torn papers, bits of old food, and other debris are scattered about the room, collecting in corners and under the bed and table.

Crawling about in the room is what looks to be the rotting hand of a giant, its thick fingers tapping and scraping against the stone floor as it patrols.

It doesn't appear to have noticed Friday at all.
