This is a closed game with an Adventure Path to be determined.
For those invited, please use the thread to hash out what roles you would like to play.
Because I'm a masochist I think we'll be doing the Kingmaker AP with me as the GM. You can find the player's guide here which will give you some hints about character types, traits and other ideas to get you started with making your characters.
Character creation rules are:
-Core races and familiar races below 12 RP except orcs, goblins and kobolds.
-Max starting gold.
-20 point stat buy.
-No summoners or gunslingers.
-No third-party builds/feats.
-Three traits, one from the Player's guide.
-No evil characters (I'm the only one who gets to be evil).
If you have a question please ask!

I'll also note that I'm split on whether I'll take Diplomacy or some Knowledge skills. The latter probably fits my intended background better, but there are some traits that help out with the former. I'll keep that fluid so I can gel better with the rest of the team as the other characters roll in. (And I'd be happy to take advice on which seems better, as well as how to represent the calculations that undergird my skills listed in the profile page.

Dom Riverby |

Good to know! The knowledge options make more sense in what little background I have kicking around in my head. I'll probably adjust some of the traits, too.
Does that mean I may want to adjust some of the ability scores, too? Given that Channel Energy was Charisma-based, I thought I should prioritize Charisma over Intelligence, but maybe that's not a good choice...

Studious GM |

You're right there but all I meant was Charisma isn't a prime stat like Wisdom for clerics.
As I recall it's second or third depending on your build, but typically I've seen rogues, paladins and bards be more face like.
Usually you want to maximize your strengths and the party combines to cover the needs of the group (face, tank, dps, healer, etc.)

Dom Riverby |

I'm making updates, and once again appreciate your advice. I'd just seen some synergies and went after them without really knowing what I was doing. From an RP perspective I'm actually glad to be less face-like.
I did think of a couple questions while going back through the process -- do you get bonus spells for high Wisdom if your level doesn't otherwise grant spells in said level? Additionally, does Channel Energy both heal and hurt undead, or do you need to select one or the other permanently?

Studious GM |

No, you do not get bonus spells above your granted spell level! Otherwise people would just roll wizard at low level and slaughter their way through everything.
You get to do both, but only one at a time and you have a common pool. So if you can channel 3 times a day total and you channel heal then channel damage, you now have 1 channel left in that day you can either heal or damage with.

Thanks...had to expose my noobitude again. I'd looked over what Skalds did and thought there was lots of skill overlap, and I didn't want to be a 5th wheel.
I'll look into the warpriest, though I may stick with Dom just due to the time already invested. Don't want to slow us down by floating from class to class.

Swashbuckler seems good to me, as I'd rather not mess with a prestige class atm. Houseguests are staying another night, so I'm dealing with stolen moments here.
Couple questions right now:
1. As a hybrid class, do I get my feats/skill levels based on the schedule for my parent classes (Gunslinger/Fighter) get? I thought I start with two feats and a skill level to place, is that right?
2. Can I regain panache like the optional way Gunslingers get grit, by daring deeds?
3. Am I buying kit for my character with starting gold? If so, where can I find a price list?
4. Where can I find a chart with bonuses from stats? I'm seeing in several places talk about, for example, my charisma bonus, but I don't know how many +s you get for a certain charisma score.
Thanks for your patience, this won't be my last request for help.

Studious GM |

1. "Hybrid" classes are distinct classes separate from the parent class; you get skills and feats ONLY from the class itself.
The swashbuckler gets 4 + Int skill points per level and any bonus feats come from the swashbuckler tables.
2. Per the class description above, you regain panache from getting critical hits with light or one-handed piercing melee weapons or getting a killing blow with light or one-handed piercing melee weapons.
3. Yes, in the equipment chapter of the Core Rulebook, the sourcebook Ultimate Equipment, or here.
4. In the Getting Started Chapter, here or by keeping in mind you take the score, subtract ten, divide by 2 and round down. So a 16 is +3 (16-10=6, 6/2=3) a 13 is +1 (13-10=3, 3/2=1.5, 1.5 rounded down is 1) an 8 is -1 (8-10=-2, -2/2=-1) etc.

Thanks! That's very helpful, and things are starting to make sense now.
A couple questions at the moment, dealing with feats: I'd like to take the Sword Scion trait, granting a bonus with longswords and Aldori dueling swords (and one of the two physical weapons).
I'd also like to take Slashing Grace as a feat first level, to allow me to use these slashing weapons for everything that Swashbucklers can use piercing weapons for. It takes two prerequisites, one Weapon Finesse (the description for Swashbuckler's Finesse says that counts as Weapon Finesse for prerequisite purposes), and one Weapon Focus. I'm thinking of using my first level feat for that, and my racial bonus feat (Human) for Slashing Grace.
1. Am I reading that right so far?
2. Assuming I am reading it right, it's my understanding that I get proficiency with a longsword at the beginning, but that I need an Exotic Weapons Proficiency feat to be proficient in the Aldori dueling sword. So while I can just take Weapon Focus for longsword and call it done for that prerequisite, would the Exotic Weapon Proficiency feat I need to use the Aldori dueling sword without penalty count as Weapons Focus for the purposes of meeting that prerequisite? Or would I have to take another feat in Aldori dueling sword to satisfy the Weapon Focus requirement?
3. Assuming I could meet the prerequisite in Aldori dueling sword with the single feat and thus gain Slashing Grace focused on that first level, would it be wise to do that instead of longsword? I don't see a difference in use between them (though I think I'm probably missing something), and assuming there is an advantage for the ADS (if there aren't any tricks or anything, it's tough to choose it over the +1 I get from Weapon Focus in longsword), I don't know how likely it is that I'll have access to an improved version of that weapon later on, or whether fighting with that weapon will have positive RP consequences. Can you shed any light on these questions? To the latter point, I'm planning on putting a level into the class skill Knowledge, Local. Only 10 Int though ;)

I've got an inquisitor waiting in the wings, but I have a couple questions before pulling the trigger on that one...
1 - Can an Inquisitor with the Heal skill and whatever's available in the spell list suffice for a party healer? (Or help defend such that one is of lesser need?) I think the character sounds more fun to play, but don't want to abandon the healer role if no one else wants to do it.
2 - Do we need a trait from the player's guide? I was thinking the character would be an Iomedaean inquisitor, but that's not prominent in the region. (There's mention of such travelers in the Paladin paragraphs, which I figured was fairly close in mentality.) I can certainly invent a reason to have one of the backgrounds - but didn't want to spend too much time on that unless we were actually going to be able to support a non-cleric...

Studious GM |

Ahhhh! Wall of Text!
Big Head:
1) Yes, as far as I can tell.
2) To get Weapon Focus with the Aldori Dueling Sword you do need to take Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Aldori Dueling Sword) first.
3) I think this is no longer relevant? But the benefit of the weapon originally was being able to use Weapon Finesse with a weapon that did more than 1d6 base damage. Now that there's a Dexterity Bonus to Damage feat in "Fencing Grace" and "Slashing Grace" the weapon is largely obsolete.
Dom:
1) Not unless they take the Healing domain - which Iomedae does not provide. Even then it'd be iffy.
2) Yes, one trait comes from the Player's Guide - feel free to coordinate amongst yourselves to get complimentary traits.

OK, twice now I've written a big wall of text for a profile edit and lost it (due to timeouts I guess?). I should have something for you to check over in a couple days though, I'll just have to edit in a text editor first (I believe I've made all the important decisions).
Assuming you and Dom are still in this, should I ping the original Ricochet thread to try to get our other couple party members back?
