Hello, new friends. Thanks for having me - and for coming together without the need of a recruitment thread.
I'll post some character creation thoughts later, but please check in with your alias so I can review the party makeup. Obviously, you're not locked into your previously chosen class, but try not to step on anyone's toes with your new selection.
Looking forward to gaming with you all!

One hell escapee reporting in.
Maybe i'll tweak background a little later, to make his connection to the professor more solid than last time. :)
I dunno... could you imagine playing a rogue, ranger or so, Daniel? Not sure how much "hell" terrain there will be, but it might work for your given background.
PS: Oh, in case it hasn't been sufficiently clear: These are the respective character aliases.
Daniel Chelas |
Well Daniel's goal prior to his "incident" was actually to join magnimar's cavalry. His personality isn't the sneaky type, but a straight forward one.
But i can take a look, if really vital, if a lvl of either would benefit him in some way.
Narah |
Depends on how many ICTSpiceMerchant wants and whether or not Borden wants to join... but we could ask him.
(God, I've never been a GM but I can already tell I hate to make selections; just had to explain to Glade why I didn't ask him :( And he WAS trying very hard.)
ICTSpiceMerchant |
How passionate are you all about keeping your point buy? I prefer 20-point buys (well, truthfully, I like 15-points, but that seems unpopular on these here boards), so I'm not entirely sure how to scale encounters for such high buys. I don't want immortal heroes that are immortal out if the box - I want them to earn it.
Narah |
A sylph does not get a wisdom bonus, my primary attribute, nor a CHA bonus, even though CHA is important to my background.
To use a whip effectively I need Combat Expertise (to get access to improved trip, improved disarm) and that means at least INT 13.
As a Calistrian I need Charisma... Too low strength doesn't make sense either, because the combat manoeuvre bonus goes down the drain.
If we had to go down to 20 points I'd have to strip the physical attributes and forfeit my some of my charisma...
Let's say I'd have to start using STR 12, DEX 14, CON 10, INT 14, WIS 15, CHA 14 (bought: STR 12, DEX 12, CON 12, INT 12, WIS 15, CHA 14)... in point buy 20.
I wouldn't exactly be happy about it, but I could live with it.
If we played with point buy 15 I'd end up with STR 11, DEX 12, CON 8, INT 14, WIS 15, CHA 14... (revised edition) - that would be very painful.
It was the point buy 25 that made me consider such a less-than-ideal race/class combination in the first place.
Daniel Chelas |
20pts would be workable, being human, but 15 would break the build for Daniel as well.
On account of the rogue thing, let's hear what the other martials think. If we really would need rogue skills for some parts and they'd break character multiclassing, i'd be willing to put 1 or 2 lvl in rogue as we go, provided it gets a logical situation that causes him to do it. But Daniel is a melee character at core.
Narah |
Ha! And the undead are all mine to destroy! :P
...
Wouldn't that be a quite radical change from a Paladin?
But it's true, one of the three of you better made something different... that's why I was hoping Daniel would do it, because it seemed like the slightest change in concept to me. But... if you think you change it and still be Morthos in the end go for it. :)
Daniel Chelas |
Daniel wouldn't be a tank per sé, but his combat style would mainly feature the chain, which later on can provide combat manouvres like disarm and trip. Bran and Morthos are the real powerhouses i think. As i said, taking 1 or 2 lvl in rogue provides him with the sneak attack to make it up.

It's a CoT game, but yes, I'm doing both. I'm announcing the Chosen shortly.
I should check in, because I still have a chance. Thanks for giving us all a fair chance.=)
I will drop down to 20 if chosen. I'd be okay with a druid(my preferred healer), or an arcanist, or a ranged person, like gunslinger of ranger. If we need another rogue, I can play that two, the only thing I can't play is anything that has their alignment locked into lawful, unless the DM says ignore alignment restrictions.
Narah |
Well, that's the original rules, isn't it? I'll leave my character as it is then.
The only thing I could do is break the skills and inventory down to its details, maybe put them in some Google Docs sheet or so.
Regarding the "coutiers outfit"... that's supposed to represent both her "hardly there" silk dress and a dress she's bringing along for the funeral.
ICTSpiceMerchant |
We'll give him until the end of the day to check in - I probably won't be able to start the game until tomorrow any way.
Call me lazy, busy or eager to get started, but I don't really have the time, energy or desire to review each of your profiles. Will you all please do a peer review of one another's character sheets to ensure that the creation rules were followed?

Sorry - forgot to add a couple of things I'd like to discuss:
1. Initiative. I intend to roll initiative whenever we enter combat. In order to honor efforts to boost initiative, we will use individual initiative until it becomes a bottle-neck for progress. If we discover that it's slowing things down too much to act in order, we will transition to group initiative where the average initiative will act first - whether . I'd prefer to never make this transition.
2. Perception. There will be times that I'll "roll" or take a look at passive perception to point things out to individuals. You're welcome to roll perception on your own when you want to specifically "activate" it, but I've found it can be difficult to know when to roll for that skill in particular in PBP games.
3. Skill checks. I'm currently GM'ing an Edge of the Empire game in real life (and loving it), and so I'm currently in a heavily narrative-focused mindset. I'm not going to break the rules or anything, but I'm also going to reward creativity alongside successful roles. When you take an action, such as Diplomacy, Survival or perhaps even some attacks outside of combat, please roll the dice in the same post as you take the action. I will then determine if your roll was necessary. Don't take the action and then wait for me to ask for your roll - that can bog things down, too.
4. Posting schedule. The pace of the game will be determined by the players. I'd prefer at least one post a day, but if a majority (4) of players can post more than that (and I can keep up), we will move at their pace. I don't want to leave any players behind, but if 2 of the six are holding us back, I may ask them to leave the game. Again, I'm not trying to be mean at all - I just don't want this game to die!

I've calculated the cost of my inventory without using kits now and broke down the skills in a Google Spread sheet, since Hero Lab is extremely clumsy and inaccurate at it.
Prices and weights I made up myself:
Holy Text 2 lb. 10 gp.
Courtesan Outfit (as described on the sheet, including silver armbands and silk dress. Silk is 10 gp / yard²) 1lb. 20gp
Funeral Dress (Black Velvet) 5 gp. 5 lbs.
The spreadsheet can be found here:

Will you all please do a peer review of one another's character sheets to ensure that the creation rules were followed?
The point buy value of your abilities seems to be only 23, Daniel.
STR 16: 10DEX 14: 5 (+2 human)
CON 14: 5
INT 13: 3
WIS 08: -2
CHA 12: 2
You might either pull wisdom to a flat (better will save, better survival) 10 or higher intelligence by one (one additional skill point / level, one additional starting language).
The wisdom malus is not calculated into your survival skill.
You don't list an inventory breakdown and money, I can conclude you're wearing a studded leather armor from your AC (flat footed 13), but the ACP is not included in the riding skill. That makes 25 (chained spike) + 15 (scimitar) + 2 x 2 (daggers) +25 (studded leather) = 69 gp. The average for a fighter is 175, so you have 106 gp left. Suggestions: Light horse 75gp, Riding kit (16 gp), fighter's kit 9 gp. Total 100 gp, so you'd have 6 gp left.
EDIT: Gah! Confused touch and flat footed! So, it's likely an armored coat ... 50 gp.
Daniel Chelas |
It's already at 10 standard :)
As for the armor, that was Hide.
I'm not sure about the necessity of a horse though. I've got 1 point in riding due to his background.
I'll put in the specs of cost and weight in a bit.
I'm sure we've got alot of languages covered, if i take 1 lvl in rogue i get linguistics as well. Gives me languages as well.

Found my inventory on harddrive.
Inventory
Hide Armor 15gp 25lbs
Spiked chain 25gp 10lbs
Scimitar 15gp 4lbs
Dagger x2 4gp 2lbs
Backpack, common 2gp 2lbs
waterskin 1gp 4lbs
Trail ration x4 2gp 2lbs
50ft silk rope 10gp 5lbs
Bedroll 1sp 5lbs
Encumbrance: 59lbs=Light load (0-66 =light)
Starting money: 195gp average.
Money Spent: 74 1spgp
Money Left: 120gp 9sp
Ok, so that leaves me alot to spend.
I'll get to those purchases tomorrow morning.

If I do decide to adjust down, it would just be to 20. 15 is too radical of a drop.
We'll see - no decisions yet.
So we have three martial classes in a party of five. Are all three of you front-liners? I am, frankly, a little concerned about such an unbalanced group.
Being a Barbarian, there really is no other choice but to be a front line offensive character. Anyone not happy with Bran the barbarian?

Daniel, how are you starting with 195 gold?
This says a fighter's average starting gold is 175?
Am I looking at the wrong table?

Anyone want to check mine out? I have everything updated now, had a chance to do so on my lunch break. Bran is in this party, correct?
Err.... no it's corrected.. site kept eating my saves!
I just. Oh no... you did recalculation. :D
What I find a bit strange is that it lists movement speed 20 ft. With a strength of 20 you can carry up to 133 pounds as light load. And you get +10 bonus as barbarian (unless your archetype neglects that somehow, didn't look that up)... so imho it should be 40.
I got a different result than you regarding the inventory weight and price. I didn't quite know what you calculated for the floating device, so I left it out.
(if you have a Google account you can easily make a copy)
By the way: You have no bedroll or blanket. Your inventory does not the list a free outfit (I don't why Hero Lab does that, it's a bug I suppose) and no mess kit.

I know I'm not in this, but asimar They gain +2 Wisdom and +2 Charisma.
How do you have 20 int, with no modifier to push it above 18?
Edit: this could be why alt trait: Scion of Humanity Some aasimars' heavenly ancestry is extremely distant. An aasimar with this racial trait counts as an outsider (native) and a humanoid (human) for any effect related to race, including feat prerequisites and spells that affect humanoids. She can pass for human without using the Disguise skill. This racial trait replaces the Celestial language and alters the native subtype.
Edit 2: If true and it works they way I think it works I count 25 buy points. Elf +2 Dex, +2 int, -2 con
Strength 10 (0 racial, 0 buy)
Dexterity 14 (2 racial, 2 buy)
Constitution 14 (-2 racial, 10 buy)
Intelligence 20 (2 racial, 17 buy)
Wisdom 10 (2 racial, -2 buy)
Charisma 10 (2 racial -2 buy)
Edit 3: Is your favored class bonus +1 HP to make it 9? HP: 8=d6+2(con)
Edit 4: Will+3 saving throw? I count 0 mod+2 class bonus.
