With Deca-Jaw’s return, I’m afraid we’re potentially leaving things on a bit of cliff hanger. I’m going to be away for the next week and a half and I don’t expect to have access to a computer. I should be posting this Saturday and Sunday morning and then my computer will be boxed away. Hopefully there will be sufficient interest in the game to survive such a lull.
I am keen to get a map to clarify positioning. I see a scenario where Hurgah, Karek and Hal potentially beat each other out for the few remaining charge lanes and I can’t imagine how I can describe that without a diagram to share. But I am also painfully aware my scanner is now away in an unmarked box somewhere not to reappear for at least a couple weeks. We’ll soldier on, I hope.

It's worse than I thought, I gotta pack away my stuff now already.
Man! I'll be left in suspense. Will Deca-Jaws achieve his life long ambition of eating an adventuring party? It's something that's been on his bucket list so long, it was even a desire back when they used to call him Lil'Penta-Petey!
Be well guys,
Feel free to discuss combat strategy and even (as a hypothetical of course) your post-Deca plans. I'd use the time.
See ya in a bit,
--The Beetle, signing-off.

Bilbo Bang-Bang |

See ya in a couple,Beetle. We've been whackin' away at this game since March, so I'm sure a time will not kill it. Might give Jace the break he needed so he won't have to drop out, also. I plan on skinning that beast for at least a part or two to be incorporated into Breach's gear. Yet another epic tale for Gandel to convert add to the Song of Breach.LOL.

Phrip |

Don't worry. As long as I can get away with making posts like "Hurgah grunts at the antics of the dwarf team." and "Hurgah eats the nasty 10-headed Hydra" and otherwise just copy/pasting my full attack rolls, I'm sticking around. :-)
Ahhhh, and here Moon was hoping for some more bonding discussions and witty repartee with the mysteriously deep Hurgah. You know, to develop that dynamic duo / odd couple thing.

XP Update
In addition to the defeat of the legendary Deca Jaws, I’ve tabulated XP for the exploration (and lootin’) of A’Viss and the race to the Tumen Oasis. As well there was XP for the “Behind Enemy lines” saga in which the deadly duo staged an escape from the dig site and survived a night while being hunted.
I’ve accelerated things rather liberally, but all in all I’ve cobbled together 40,250 XP which I am dividing 7 ways. That gets everyone 5,750 more XP. By coincidence, I’m tracking everyone at 40,250 from the prior award. When I add the 5,750 share, each PC now has 46,000 XP. For those of you goal-oriented types, the magic number you are looking for to level-up is 51,000 (medium-advancement track).
So congrats on that – you are just past 2/3rds of the way to level 8.

Before you guys carve through Jason’s possessions any further, I better step in and make sure we have a discussion – I should have done so earlier – my bad.
Are we going to have a replacement player? If we get one and we redistribute Jason’s stuff we fall into what I believe they call Alexander’s paradigm. Imagine if a PC is killed off every encounter and a replacement PC is added, but the deceased PC’s treasure is redistributed each time. In just a few encounters the PCs strength level bears no relation to their level or the wealth-by-level tables. In theory, it should be semi-self-correcting as if the encounters are too easy, nobody will die any further, at least until the PCs level appropriately. But in long-running campaigns and PBP’s players can just vanish, regardless of the threat level, and it would take a huge amount of time before it corrects.
In my view, there’s two fixes:
1. Jason’s stuff was devoured by Deca-Jaws and not recoverable (save for the wand of endure elements since that ships already sailed on me.)
2. The Dune Squad goes ahead and re-divides up his stuff, but we close the door on recruitment. Sure the treasure increases your power level, but I still treat you as a party of 9 for the purpose of generating encounters. (8 if you vote out Thalia, but you’re not that short-sighted are you?)
So how do folks feel about the recruitment issue? Ideally we could open the door to a lurker, if we have one who is still following the threads – that would be cool. I could recruit another old gaming buddy of mine. If I can get the guy I’m thinking of he’d be pretty dam entertaining, but I don’t know if he plays PBP. Maybe one of you has someone you would like to vouch for. I am also cool if people like it as it is now, we’ve got a good group. I could also re-post to the recruitment thread and see who’s interested.
As an aside – I sure hope we haven’t lost Bilbo! You out there buddy?

Nuts. A friend of mine played this module. He said they got to level nine right after defeating DecaJaws.
We must be playing this out of order or something.
I don't think so. I spoke to your friend and it sounds like his group did everything the exact same way: go to gold tent, plane shift to elemental plane, liberal use of the crap sack, eating the still-beating heart of a hydra.
The only difference I was able to tease out was the party turned on their Bunky to extend their water breathing duration - maybe they discovered he's a secret cache of mass XP?

It's certainly not out of order to say that Jason's stuff was largely destroyed. I thought about asking something to that effect, but it came out as "OOH GIMME TREASURE."
I personally don't feel as though we need another player. Seven PCs is enough. More PCs can slow things down even more as we wait for people to chime in or take their turns. I'm not massively opposed to it or anything, so if there's somebody who's just itching to join this insane crew, let them at it. The only requirement is that they are insane.

It didn't even occur to me about recruiting another player. I certainly think the group we have is fantastic, but I am not averse to adding another chap (or chapette)...unless, of course, they turn out to be another traitor. Still sore about that!....in a good way, mind you. If not for Thalia the traitor, we never would have had Behind Enemy Lines, plane shifting, and a craptastic battle of epic proportions. I'm all for more entertaining zingers, or the bland feeling of actually making progress. I'm good for any and all directions you take us.

Hey now! "Insane" is a legal term. I much prefer the term "crazy", which is definitely a requirement for joining the Dune Squad.

Donkor Sooron |

I would be for recruiting another player. I think the game moved along at a pretty nice pace even when we had the full 9 we started with. And the green meanie is not averse to GM PCing when he needs to, and his good at it.
Some new blood wouldn't hurt, and I'm always excited to see the way the beetle plays with things. A new addition could move the plot forward in bizarre and unpredictable ways.
I think it's a good idea, and if we've lost Bilbo I think it's a great idea.

Karek Kogan |

Here is a potential sending that shifts the blame off Donkor.
"Spoke with Exemplar, betrayed by Thalia. Shifted to Water Plane. Totally not Donkor's doing. On track now. Defeated Decajaws. Jason deceased. Bunky a little shaken."
I think that hits all the important points.
Sound off.

Karek Kogan |

This is the sending Karek would send if he had the capability to send a sending. Which of course he doesn't, because magic only leads to trouble. But Krenshaw would want to know.
"Vire da guy who reccomended Dalia, and anybody who dalked wid'er. She is Cancer. Dond hear her lies. Donkor loose cannon. Jason dead. Rebenge!
