AC 18, touch 13, flat-footed 15 (+3 Dex, +5 natural)
rm #1: 27-9=18
rm #2: 27
rm #3: 27
Fort +2, Ref +4, Will +5
Speed 40 ft., climb 10 ft.
Melee bite +6 (1d3)
antennae +6 touch (rust)
A rust monster's antennae are a primary touch attack that causes any metal object they touch to swiftly rust and corrode. The object touched takes half its maximum hp in damage and gains the broken condition—a second hit destroys the item. A rust monster never provokes attacks of opportunity by attempting to strike a weapon with its antennae. Against creatures made of metal, a rust monster's antennae deal 3d6+5 points of damage. An attended object, any magic object, or a metal creature can attempt a DC 15 Reflex save to negate this effect. The save DC is Constitution-based.
Round 2:
Gkirkhan
Rova
Wood
Eva
rust monsters x3
Vertielle
The rust monsters rush up to whomever looks tasty:
rm #1 vs Gkirkhan (he did hit it, after all): bite: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11 for damage: 1d3 ⇒ 1 and lashing out with it's antenna at his armored coat rust attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
rm #2 vs Rova: bite: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15 for damage: 1d3 ⇒ 1 and lashing out with it's antenna at his full plate rust attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
rm #3 vs Eva: bite: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23 for damage: 1d3 ⇒ 1 and lashing out with it's antenna at her chain shirt rust attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Since your armor is 'attended' you get a DC15 reflex save, otherwise...looks like everyone's going to need new armor.
Gkirkhan |
Remove the coat, Unleash the Gkirkster Rage, Chuck the rustbug off the bridge.
Reflex: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Gkirkhan's eyes widen as his coat is turned into useless weight.
"That, vas a mistake." He says flatly as he takes off the coat, baring his muscly upper-body.
"Hy liked that coat," He growls as his muscles bulge.
Re-position off the bridge: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (18) + 13 = 31
The_Ninja_DM |
Quick rules update: My bad - I thought Gkirkhan's armored coat was all metal. So, while the critter went for Gkirkhan due to his attacking it, it didn't do a rust attack at that point. Also, a reminder; the items hit are not destroyed immediately, they only acquire the 'broken' condition. The item needs to be hit twice to be destroyed. (See the note in the spoiler.)
Current status:
rm #1 vs Gkirkhan: 27-9=18
rm #2 vs Rova: 27-12=15
rm #3 vs Eva: 27-9=19
Gkirkhan, Rova, Vertielle: Reflex save was free action; do you want to hit these critters?
Gkirkhan |
Gkirkhan's tough, and besides, I pictured Gkirkhan looking like Baldur from Norse mythology, except with green skin and tusks, and who doesn't like something pleasant to look at? ;D
That said, He's chucking the rust-bug off the bridge, and the bug get's an AoO, but I still think a 31 succeeds.
The_Ninja_DM |
OK, back to the remaining two rust monsters.
Round 3:
Gkirkhan
Rova
Wood
Eva
rust monsters x2
Vertielle
rm #2 vs Rova: bite: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11 for damage: 1d3 ⇒ 1 and rust attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
rm #3 vs Eva:bite: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11 for damage: 1d3 ⇒ 3 and rust attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
The_Ninja_DM |
Aha...I'm baaaak...
Round 4:
Gkirkhan
Rova
Wood
Eva
rust monsters x2
Vertielle
rm #2 vs Rova: bite: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24 for damage: 1d3 ⇒ 1 and rust attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
rm #3 vs Eva: bite: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9 for damage: 1d3 ⇒ 2 and rust attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
The_Ninja_DM |
Hm, no Gkirkhan, no Vertielle
OK:
Gkirkhan: on Eva's
Attack 1 Beate (PA, Reckless Abandon, 2 hands): 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (7) + 14 = 21
Damage: 1d8 + 17 ⇒ (3) + 17 = 20
Attack 1 Beate (PA, Reckless Abandon, 2 hands): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
Damage: 1d8 + 17 ⇒ (8) + 17 = 25
Vertielle: also on Eva's
Masterwork Whip: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17
damage: 1d3 ⇒ 2
Oops; forgot everyone's +2 bonus from Vertielle's Naturalist; she hits, Gkirkhan's second swing still misses.
AC 18, touch 13, flat-footed 15 (+3 Dex, +5 natural)
hp 27
Fort +2, Ref +4, Will +5
Speed 40 ft., climb 10 ft.
Melee bite +6 (1d3)
antennae +6 touch (rust)
Eva's Rust monster: 27-9=19-5=14-20=-6-2=-8 (down)
Rova's rust monster: 27-12=15
The_Ninja_DM |
As Eva's kick drops the last rust monster, you hear voices from the stone bridge.
You see three people approaching you from the main schloss; two human-sized and one halfling sized one.
Vertielle calls out "Look, the slip -er, Zhiden- brought help now that we don't need it"
She tugs on her jacket, smugly adjusting it.
Gkirkhan, however, comments "That's not Zhiden! I don't recognize any of them."
Andjela Daywalker |
With preternatural grace the lithe form among the three separates itself from the trio and advances swiftly. As the form gets closer, it is obviously female and hefts an an over-sized heavy crossbow.
Ho there, identify yourselves! The voice is strong and steady. Her boots "clack" as heel or toe touch cobblestone. Her cloak, fine, flowing and a deep navy... the color of midnight.
Darien Cedric Espoir |
hail, Darien, paladin of Iomeade, be you friend or foe.
He stands straight, his full plate glitters in the light, clearly made by the hands of a master, a great blade of similar quality rests strapped at his hip, a long scarlet cape. His hand rests easily on the hilt of his blade.
Gerbault Swiftblade |
Ah, thought things were still in the middle of combat.
"Yep!" shouts the large (for his race), caped halfling that follows behind them, "We're here for! Err, wait, I don't have this. Andjela, maybe you should explain."
Rova |
A walking wall of plate armor, 7' tall, and nearly as wide, moves to the front of the group
"So we go' a Dari'n, a An'jela, an' a talkin' cloak wid no name it seems. Tha' do it fer introduc'ions fer yer, Eva?"
"Rova's m' name. Rova th' eleventh, ta be formal. Tain't da nices' place ta meet, certainly ain't formal. Ya come on beha'f o' anyun?"
Evangline Valeria Aurora |
Eva is an Ulfen looking about 6 foot 3. She has a curvy human build with comely heavenly features and pale skin. Her face looks human, but is more heavenly. She has Sapphire blue eyes and lose Golden Blonde Hair that ends near her waist.
Gerbault Swiftblade |
The halfling shakes his head quickly, remembering how Paladins can be a little... wooden about such things. "Ah. My apologies. Gerbault Swift-Blade, here with two large paladins, Sir Darien Cedric Espoir and Sir Andjela Daywalker. They make arrests, I collect clues, law enforcement, et cetera. We are on the orders of Judge Darmid, sent with concern over her brother-in-the-law. Strange, criminal things are afoot, you know. We're all quite good at swords, so if there are still monsters about you can stand back if you like while we protect you on behalf of civic justice and your tax coins at work."
Evangline Valeria Aurora |
Eva replies
"So the Judge sent you to give us a hand, Which is most helpful.
Am I to assume those you added Sir to, are due to rank, and not due to noble blood?"
Rova |
"Two pal'dins un' a 'vestigat'r, eh? Court's go' som' strange ideas 'bout whaz here."
Rova surveys the assembling group, eying armor, weapons and builds.
To Darien: "Strong-lookin', bu' no idear wha' race ya are. See ya fav'r two-handers an' plate. Same as me."
To Andjela: "Sligh' build, prolly an archer. If'fn yer human, there's sumthin' off..nah, ne'er mind. Elf blade on yer back, tho. Backup fer yer crossbow?"
To Gerbault: "Ain't built fer melee, less'n yer a quick-blade. See's ya got enough blades on ya. Even if some are hidden, you've got a LOT Yetta nudder halflin' fer our bard ta mock. Jus' lettin' ya know, she'll snark ya fierce."
Gerbault Swiftblade |
"Oh? Would you prefer to send a scholar or a preacher to deal with matters of public safety? I am not from Ustalav of birth, so maybe your ways here are less straightforward."
"And I'll have you know that this one is the University of Lepidstadt's greatest duelist, though my companions have credentials too if you're going to be picky." (and as far as I've actually seen, investigators are one of the most melee-focused classes in pathfinder)
"So... you say someone's filled this castle with monsters? Point the way, and we'll go enforce at them."
Gerbault Swiftblade |
"Hold on. free the beast?"
"And you misunderstand. We were sent by the Judge; and we're here to handle this. Since you seem to know the layout of the place, assistance you can give us if you want."
Andjela? Cedric? I'm improvising a bit here, since I don't know the full story, but I'll wait to let you two far more charismatic and imposing people get some words in edgewise.
The_Ninja_DM |
Vertielle speaks up "Wood, you're confused...as is the slip, I suspect. I have everything here in my notes..." she pulls out a journal from her pack, flips though some pages and points to the notes therein. "You see, right here - after we proved the Beast innocent of those charges he invited us here to meet his 'father'. When we arrived, the gatehouse was held by trolls and the main house was abandoned. When we got to this point, well, as you see, there was some sort of accident, probably an explosion, that wrecked this lab and that other bridge. If you need to find the Count, you'll have to go further in."
Darien Cedric Espoir |
It can be true, things are not always as they seem.. However, I will need evidence of the Beasts innocence. Perhaps pressing onwards would yield proof. I will remain with you until this matter is settled. After that, I know not.
The_Ninja_DM |
Please note: the trial is over and the Beast was PROVEN innocent of all three charges; the children were killed by a wraith; the swamp people were murdered by the same skin-stealer that murdered the Doctor and burnt down the asylum. The court was even presented with the skin he wore while posing as the Beast. This is all on record. Currently the Beast is not wanted for anything, except possibly just being a golem.
