There's few enough rooms left, and those on the way out. I've still got spells, and you can always acid splash it. Versimilitude dictates we finish the level to the balcony.
Are we playing with the silly scroll errata? I'd like to take scribe scroll to qualify for Cypher Magic, but if I can't scribe scrolls I don't have access to (which is the errata, which is silly) I'll take combat expertise or something instead.
To clarify: You may add five to the craft DC to create magic items without casting the spell necessary.
Errata removed wands, scrolls, potions, and staves from this rule.

Bad news people. I've just heard from Gkirkhan. He's dropping out due to commitment, timeing, and burn-out issues.
Do we want to keep the curent group as is at 4 or should I open recruitment for another front-line fighter?
No dedicated front-line fighter might affect your level-ups as well. Eva, you need to level regardless.
We now have:
Evangline: Cleric-1/Monk-1
Que: Ninja-3
Vertielle: Bard-3
Wood: Wizard-3
I also deleted the start of the last fight (a giant stirge) on this floor. Once we get organized again, I'll get that fight going. If we bring in a new fighter, that may be how he/she arrives. ;)
The_Ninja_DM |
That's why I'm asking the group. If you feel like you don't need a replacement, we'll continue as is. Maybe we should. It could clear up if we need a front-line heavy hitter or not.
I'll leave the decision open until tomorrow 6 am EST. Then we'll continue either way as it will take a while to get someone regardless.
Wood the Wizard |
And we want to talk to the gypsies and magical shopowners about repowering Vertiele's and my depleted haunt siphon.
And I agree holy waters are the best use of our money now. I also can scribe a Mon Summoning II for Vertielle now, though the money is probably better invested in holy water.
Scribing magic missile scrolls at level 3 is probably more effort and less cost effective than holy water too.
Vertielle Siepar |
Probably. Anything we can cast ourselves won't be efficient as a scroll, as yet. Some ghost blanch for arrows might be well used, and we'll make sure to distribute the magic arrows I have now. Otherwise it's mostly innate spells that we'll need.
Oil of magic weapon for Eva, perhaps.

I sell one antiplague, two bloodblock, and 2 smelling salts to buy three holy waters; and canibalize the scrolls of hypnotism and floating disk to scribe protection from evilx2.
DC=5+5+1=11
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 8 + 2 = 121d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 8 + 2 = 14
Whew. Close calls.

I am sorry, but at them moment I have lot of stuff going on in my life so that I can't really commit to continue playing in this PbP. I am really sad about this as it was a lot of fun, but I can't get my mind free to continue to play at the moment.
I just hope that this won't kill the PbP and that you can continue without me.

OK, I have a proposed full bab frontliner. Playing to my weaknesses... ;), a half-giant soulknife (posibly with the cutthroat archetype). Skinned (looks only) as a half-minotaur.
This gives both a frontliner and a traps person...you will need a traps person in the next module, after all.
If you want to add more let me know.
Meanwhile, reset to the town. Also, the three of you remaining, upgrade your equipment to 3rd level (3000g total). I have developed a backstory to explain the suddend aquisition of the equipment and the -disappearances- of your friends and teammates. Consider you now have access to just about everything, as if you'd made the character 3rd to start.

I'll say it now,
I am not a fan of the Psionics system,
and I'll try to not let it get to me.
I've seen a lot of broken psionic builds in my past game experience, and kinda ruined those games
For traps I can prepare find traps to find them.
if Vertielle changes from Archivist to Archaeologist we then have our trap monkey.
The_Ninja_DM |
So, we can have the traps/locks issue covered in several ways.
I will say up front to all of you right now that the potential new character is being played by my husband. The DSP Soulknife is his current favorite class. I will continue to run the same way I have, I guarantee no favoritism.
In fact, if you think I'm showing it, let me know immediately.
Also, do you want me to try for a few other players?
Also, clarification on the 3rd level money issue: ADD 3000g.
Vertielle Siepar |
I dislike psionics as a mechanic and a build. The magus with the magic dagger thing is the alternative I suggest, but it's not exactly my decision who gets in XD
I'd be fine changing to Archaelogist. Archivist was because we had a rogue. I only ask I be allowed to change 3rd level feat and some skill points choices to reflect.
The_Ninja_DM |
To partially address the isue here's a link to the Soulknife: Soulknife
That said, Vertielle, if you want to make the change go right ahead.
I'll post the cutthroat archtype which gets no other powers later tonight.

It's psionics as a whole that bothers me. How do you dispel? Does dwarf resistance apply? Can you use it polymorphed? In psionic-only campaigns, it's less disruptive, but still overpowered to the point of being comical.

That's the reason for my dislike of it.

OK, I appreciate your concerns, let me address these.
We use tramsparency so: Psionics dispels the same way every other type of magic does and any apropriate resistances apply.
Polymorphed can use it subject to whatever other limits apply; for a soulblade, the form must be able to use the weapon generated.
If you have other concerns, let me know and we'll try to work them out.
I started out playing science fiction and later played Rolemaster; I've always seen psionics as just another form of magic. I see magic (in my games) as three types, much like the Rolemaster split: Arcane, Divine, Psionic (mentalism in Rolemaster) each with a diverent source and a different style. [side note: That's also why I've always felt divine casters should be spontaneous.]
IMO, the nice thing about the Soulknife is that he/she can be a frontline fighter/meat shield without becoming as useless as a standard fighter at higher levels.
The_Ninja_DM |
Oh, and as for the Magus option: I've been married to the man for 20 years; 21 on June 28th and I've gamed with him for at least 5 years longer. I've seen him build and play characters of all types. Never give him a standard spellcaster. Never. If you think psionics is overpowered...(rolls eyes)
A soulknife can dish out fighter-level damage basically being a highly flexible full BaB frontliner with, as he/she levels up, access to the ability to pull out just the right damage type. As the build he's shown me has no int bonus, that puts Vertielle's naturalist ability to the forefront. Just like with Gkirkhan, you can ID the monster and let him know what to use against it. And given that the build has only 3 increased stats (Str, Dex, Wis; all the rest are 10s) he's less likely to be controlled and turn on you.
