Agreed on the non-magic stuff, sell it (unless someone needs a mw crossbow).
I don't want any of the magic weapons we currently have, I'm looking to enchant my nodachi.
Potions and the rope and stone are useful misc items, so let's keep them. The hold person wand is useless here, but there are other places to go.

OK, given that we're now back up to six players (and I don't want to find another 14,000 xp of critters for you to fight) we're back to the fast experience track, which means that all of you can level up to 4th!
If you'd rather wait until after fighting Splatter Man, let me know.
Not a choice I'd make, but... ;)
Vertielle Siepar |
@4th: Two new 2nd-level spells, Discovery Torch and Gallant Inspiration; as well as the rogue talent Peerless Maneuver. I'll put my stat bonus in intelligence, raising it to a sixteen. Retroactive skill ranks?
Wood the Wizard |
Glitterdust and web added as spells.
hp= 1d6 ⇒ 2=4 midpoint for 3/3 tries
Rolls to add spells before leveling

false life* 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24
gust of wind* 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27
illusory script* 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31
levitate* 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13
mage armor
magic missile
summon monster IV*1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21

The Lopper was a gnome, his axe should be small. Pick up some roguish items; caltdrops, tindertwigs, sunrods, thunderstones, smokesticks, twine, and even a potion of vanish might be worthwhile. You'll also want to have a hammer and pitons, and window-shop for magic items.
Speaking of, what magic items are available right now?
Zhiden Enack |
All right, here is what Zhiden will be picking up before we head out to take down the Wizard of Woe- I mean, Splatterman. I'm going to be given three of those vials of holy water to Wood, to pay back the three he gave Zhiden, and because otherwise I'm over my 10 strength pansy light encumberence limit.
5 vials holy water
2 Sunrods
1 Hammer
6 pitons
1 Tanglefoot bag
1 caltrops
5 tindertwigs
Wood the Wizard |
Oil of magic weapon anyone?
Might be a good pickup if you don't have a magic weapon.
Is the curse lifted after handing over the book? If it is not, ripping the book will be the first order of business in the fight.
Talking tactics, I was hoping to be invisible and having summoned 1d3+1 celestial dogs to be in front, then reactively cast magic missiles or counterspell with them.

I think the GM should play this music track when introducing the Splatter man.
as these tracks do give off a creepy feel in a way.

It occurs to me its a house rule that thunderstones force concentration checks of 15+spell level as per the "affected by nondamaging spell" concentration check, regardless of the targets saving throw.
I mean, it makes sense, but its not a hard and fast mechanic.

@Gkirkhan, my home game played vs a cleric of madness boss not too long ago who used confusion on the low-will fighter.
The sorcerer used silent image to make it look like the boss attacked the fighter and missed, tripping confusion's "attack who attacked you" caveat.
The whole encounter was pretty epic, but that probably turned the tide. It was a very clever counter.

I think a digit got left off the mithril dagger, shouldn't it be at least 2000 for the +1 enchantment?
Ouch. Yes. Yes it did. The dagger/gladius is 2515 g + the 40 g to convert it from a dagger to a gladius.
Sorry.
Let's take the time now to settle how you want to handle the treasure split.
In any and every game I've played we total the sale cost (half of what I posted) then everyone gets even shares. If someone wants a particular item the cost comes out of their share. If the cost is over, they pay the difference into the party pool. So, for each item totals [full cost and sale cost] as follows:
+1 keen longsword: cost 8315 g sell for 4157.5
+1 mithral dagger: cost 2515 g (but will cost 40g to convert to a halfling sized gladius) sells for 1257.5
+1 ring of protection: cost 2000g sells for 1000g
Warden's badge [Rod of ectoplasmic metamagic (lesser]): costs 3000 g sells for 1500.
This produces a total sale price of 7915. Split 6 ways that becomes 1919 gold, 16 silver and some minor copper.
Let's have this debate now before we get any further.
Edit: This discussion only includes these items, since the previous ones were of far more equal value.
Vertielle Siepar |
None of us has the share to cover any items we'd like to take, and there aren't enough items for everyone to get one, since it's a large group.
Generally, I prefer the system of you get what makes sense. To be honest, the idea of our characters sitting over a ledger trying to figure out who gets what and what they owe just isn't realistic.
Take the item that will help you help the group, and sell whatever it replaces for party loot. When someone needs a bump up in something (a shiny new staff, or armor of invulnerability, whatever) or a resurection, it comes out of the party share.
Our characters are just a bunch of friends hacking up some undead, at this point. The more exacting "share system" only makes sense if we were, say, pathfinders, or belonged to some other organization; or if we established some sort of business.
Vertielle Siepar |
I didn't realize I didn't mention it; but it leads into the secret passage with the ooze, and was the easier way to bypass the portcullis.
I do occasionally use the ledger system; especially in Jade Regent, where we're part of a business venture, and in Council of Thieves, where we're recruited by an organization, and out characters are on missions, not on favors.
In essence, anywhere it fits with versimilitude.
