The cozy little town of Crested Butte is being overrun by the supernatural and only a small band of hunters (mortals who hunt monster) can protect this town and stop this invasion of shadow from spreading.

The creatures are indeed ghouls, intelligent undead who feast on flesh, living or dead. Most of the time they are found in graveyards scavenging the recently buried for food.

Dom coordinates with Roy

Alisha turns and runs for the car.

Roy's first shot is dead on taking the first ghoul right in the head and bringing it down, it falls off the roof and lands with a thump. He then moves back and fires a second less accurate shot that misses.

Xander takes a shot and misses.

The three remaining ghouls jump down and attack.

One drops down and attacks Dom chomping down on his shoulder, another drops down and attacks Xander but Xander manages to avoid the creatures jaw and the third runs chases after Roy catches up to him (Double move, stops adjacent to Roy)

It wasn't pain, but a numbing cold that Dom felt when the ghoul bit down on him. Still, he screamed. He spun around, getting into a better position.

"Chew on this!"

And fired. Silver, if it matters.

If possible I want to 5-foot step and fire in a way that won't provoke an AOO from both Ghouls. If not, I still fire. I have Point Blank and Precise Shot, btw.

Female Human Marksman

Alisha gets back into the car and revs up the engine. Ghouls indeed are dangerous Undead creatures and lacking any holy items that can repel the Undead, putting a large hunk of metal between her and the creatures would be a prudent choice. Once the car is in motion she intends to ram one of the Ghouls with the vehicle.


Getting into the vehicle and turning it on takes your whole action for round 2.


Roy steps back and shoots again, firing his Beretta at the ghoul. It's clear that its closeness has made him nervous, and his attention has also been drawn by Dom's scream. His shot goes wide, and he pauses, unsure of what to do now. Damn. Things are about to get interesting.
That was a five-foot step with a standard attack.

Xannder tries to keep his calm and back away from the one in front of him to take another shot.

Dom shoots ghoul 1 in the gut injuring but not dropping the creature.

Roy misses and Xannder misses as well.

One of the windows in the house breaks open and Reena takes aim with her rifle and shoots ghoul 2 in the back of the head and drops it.

That cold feeling grabbed hold of Dom, but unlike last time it began to spread. He seized up, shaking uncontrollably.

Man, I cannot catch a break lately. I have three different characters on the ropes as of right now, due to lousy rolls. HP 2/6.


Roy lets out a loud grunt as the ghoul bites into his shoulder, and he shoves its head off as he feels its supernatural toxins working their way into his blood...

He lets out a small groan as he feels the cold spread from his shoulder through his veins, and he can't help himself from falling to the ground, his numb fingers dropping his Beretta as his muscles lock up. He rolls his eyes over to see Dom falling to the numbness as well. Hopefully the norms make it out... and Reena...


Yikes, that's pretty much a worst case scenario right there. Hopefully Xannder gets lucky if not it's gonna be up to Alisha and Reena.

Upon being scratched by the ghoul, Xannder freezez allowing the subsequent blows to take their toll on his body. After the ghoul takes a bite from his flesh, he falls to the ground with blood seeping from the wound.

Alisha puts on her seatbelt and locks the doors to her car. She sees the ghouls have torn apart her friends and tries to sideswipe one of the ghouls with her car hopefully knocking it off his feet and buy time for Reena to finish the ghouls off with her rifle.

Would that be an attack roll or a drive check?

Alisha's drives at the nearest ghoul and hopes for the best.

The ghoul tries to avoid the vehicle but gets hit full force unfortunately Alisha wasn't able to get very much speed before hitting the creature.
reflex: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
damage: 4d4 ⇒ (2, 4, 1, 3) = 10

Ghoul 3 takes 10 damage from the collision he's hurt but not down.

The two remaining ghouls rush the vehicle when it comes to a stop and manage to smash the driver side window.

Reena takes another shot dropping number 1.
attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 202d10 ⇒ (7, 4) = 11

Only number 3 remains.

In order to ram him now you would need to back up at full speed. Dc 15 drive check, then ram him dc 15 drive check. It would deal 2d4 damage and he would have a reflex dc 15 for half.

It is actually pretty hard to break a window with a fist. Ghouls don't have superhuman strength.

Alisha looks around quickly to check her mirrors when she reverses

Spot: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

The ghouls frighten her tremendously and she slams the reverse and drives blindly backward as fast as possible. Not trying to hit the ghoul just trying to get away from the attacking monster as fast as possible.

Reena takes another shot and blows the ghoul's head off.

The last ghoul is down. Reena runs out moments later.

The paralysis's starts to wear of after a minute.


Roy remains very still on the ground... since that's all he can do. He does begin to calm down and breathe a little more easily once the last ghoul's brains are splattered across the lawn. When the paralysis finally wears off, he rolls over and pushes himself to his feet, grabbing his Beretta on the way up. "Thanks, Reena. And you, Alisha." He then quickly moves over to the unconscious form of Xannder.

"Damn. Anyone know first aid, or have any way to help him?" He checks the wounds, seeing that they've mostly stopped bleeding already. Rough, but not too deep. Doesn't look like he'll bleed out. "Reena, you have some cleaning alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, witch hazel?" He also looks to Alisha. "Grab the rifle and ammo out of your car."

Dom finally managed to shake off the effects of the paralysis. He shivered.

"Never faced a ghoul before," he said shakily to no one in particular.

"Reena we need to get our friends inside. And hurry up with that first aid kit. Alisha, when you're done getting the rifle, grab Xannder's weapons from his trunk. He mentioned something about an M16 on the way over here. I'm choosing to pretend that isn't Loony Tunes for the moment because we need the firepower."

Dom fished out Xannder's car keys from his pocket and tossed them to Alisha. "Here. And, Alisha -- Good work."

Dom and Roy brought Xannder inside and laid him on a couch. He shared a look with Roy.

"The norms just saved our bacon. They're a good bunch."


Reena runs into the house and comes back with a small chest. She opens it and takes out a strange rune inscribed ceramic tile. She breaks it in half speaking in latin and heals Xander using magic. heal: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

"Let's go inside, there might be more of them out there." says Reena

Alisha parks the car and gets out, looking worse for wear after being frightened by the Ghouls. She helps as best she can to help the others although lacking first aid training it is more physical support to the paralyzed individuals. When the survivors break their paralysis she says,

Alisha says, "I did what I could to help by ramming one of those ghouls with my car. I am not the type to attack a ghoul with a pocket knife and none of you gave me a gun."

Looking at the wounds she says, "We need to get the wounded to a hospital and get their wounds cleaned and treated with antibiotics. Ghouls according to legend carry a fatal plague known as "Ghoul Fever". This causes the victims quickly waste away and begin to crave raw meat. Those killed by Ghoul Fever become Ghouls themselves. This is something I am sure you all want to avoid."

Alisha does her best to grab the weapons from the trunk although being a woman of below average strength she has a rough time moving the equipment into the house on her own. (Strength 9)


Roy nods gratefully to Reena as she uses the magic to heal Xannder. "Thanks." He also looks to Alisha. "Dom's right--you norms are good people, and better at this than I thought. I'm glad you had our backs here."

He stands up and takes the rifle from Alisha, then hands her his Beretta and the magazines. "You've earned this." He looks to Reena. "I'm going to need a strap for this rifle. And if you could let us know what's going on, that'd be great."

He sits down and rubs his jaw, wondering what happened out there. "Alisha, a hospital isn't necessary yet. It'll raise too many questions about what happened--not to mention getting us outside again. It'll also get the feds and Dep Seven on us, if they aren't already. Besides--if the disease takes hold, I don't know of any medicine to help it except a bullet in the head. We need to patch up our wounds, bunker down, lay low."

Inside the house all the windows are barricaded and marked with strange symbols and dozens of holy symbols hang from the ceiling.

"Haven't seen him since the funeral and I had these things prowling around the house for the last two days." she replies

Xannder sits up quickly as the healing washes over his wounds. Immediately he back away looking extremely nervous.

You were right, I can't believe you were f#@#ing right. That was real, those... Things took a bite out of me. This is crazy.

He looks around the room and sees the others are hurt, and takes a long hard look at his wound.

Thank you for... Patching me up?

Xannder sees a lack of bandages around the wound and is confused as to why it feels so much better already. Then he gets up to help the others.

Roy grimaces as the alcohol swabs and bandaging are used on his shoulder, but he sits through quietly, only tensing up a little. He nods gratefully to Dom and Xannder for their help, and tests the arm, rolling the shoulder and seeing how flexible it is. It stings some, and feels a bit stiff, but it's better than nothing. "Thanks."

Roy picks up the rifle and reloads it, then lays it across his lap. "You say those things have been around for two days, Reena? Any idea why?"

Dom muttered to himself, "Mages, werewolves, and now ghouls. This case gets weirder by the minute."


"I have some ideas...The first thing they did was break in and steal some of my dads old stuff, I chased em off and I guess they were waiting for another chance."

the weapon carefully to get a handle on it before putting it into the pocket of her jacket. "At least you are taking me seriously now at least."

She then says, "So it is confirmed that Ghouls are involved in the troubles here and we have evidence that werewolves also are on the prowl. The odds are not looking very much in our favour so far. We had best be prepared next time and avoid getting caught by surprise like it happened tonight."

As for Reena Thomson she says to her, "Thank you for your assistance tonight. Without your steady aim we could have lost some lives tonight. Allow me to introduce myself. I am Alisha Quinn, a scholar of History and Mythological Studies. I like the others here have been exposed to the existence of the supernatural and have chosen to do something about it."


To Roy: "They broke into his bedroom by going trough the second floor windows and stole one of the trunks with his old hunting gear...Not sure exactly what was in there, stakes, silver bullets, magic bullets...I think that was the trunk with his magic holy symbol. The one that destroys spirits and ghosts.

To Alisha: "Dad taught me well, he always said there were bad things out there and one day I might have to defend myself. Guess he was more right than he imagined."


"Damn." Roy moves to the stairs and heads up to the room, rifle at his shoulder as he enters to look around.

Roy turns as he hears the others working on Xannder. "Here, hold on."

He expertly applies some antiseptic and bandaging to Xannder's wounds before running upstairs (as in the last post).

After aiding in dressing some wounds she turns her attention to Reena and says to her, "Reena, are you feeling alright? You look somewhat off health. That bandage on your neck seems to be covering a wound."


She looks surprised and touches her neck for a moment.
"I'm fine, it's nothing serious."

Alisha gives an uneasy look to that answer. Knowing they were attacked by ghouls it could be a Ghoul bite and Reena may be suffering from the onset of Ghoul Fever. She attempts to read Reena's response and see if Reena is concealing something.
