Sure but where would a Bengalli Prince have meet a college student?

Not sure what your College courses revolve around, you could be an intern at the Rhodes Foundation, a technology research & development firm. Maybe a journalist, for your College paper, perhaps I acted as a guest lecturer on the economic development of third world countries.

There are certainly possibilities there.

@Peanuts

Thoughtform is a cool concept, but mechanically your build will not perform the way you wish it to.

You are absent Strength, Stamina & Fighting, yet you do not have Immunity to Fortitude effects. This means that you are still subject to things like Suffocation, Diseases and such.

Your Possession ability is purchased with Accurate, but also Perception Range, which means that it doesn't require a hit roll. Also at 6 Ranks, it is a Will Save DC 16. Which means a balanced PL 10 opponent, will resist 75% of the time, I would drop it to range touch, purchase your fighting back, and take power attack so you can up the difficulty of the Will Check. Being Invisible you'd most likely have surprise any any attempt.

Also, your Extended 5 is most likely overkill, also, without Acute you can't tell friend from foe. I'd suggest Acute, Tracking & Radius just for cool factor.

Mind Reading doesn't need Accurate as there is no attack check involved.

Just a couple thoughts to help you trim and such, though the Immunity to Fortitude is definitely a must as an absent Stamina character, as you will automatically fail any Fortitude check.

Seeing all these character concepts has really inspired me to create a Hero that's kinda normal Joe-Schmoe as an offset.

So instead of going with the Origami idea, GM, how do you feel about Luck control maximized as the only power on a character who's abilities are pretty average?

That sounds pretty cool in my opinion. An average guy with 'nuthin but luck by his side, very nice.

@Zen Gypsy The intern idea seems solid, as he is going in for a tech degree, though I haven't decided which.

Looking at the sheet my plasma attack seems useless, since its only rank 2.... It does not look like im gonna be a heavy attacker.

That seems pretty neat, though the origami guy would have been cool.

Still wondering how to get Axel into the mix...
Any ideas?

We could have meet at a performance of yours.

More then likely, Masumi hasn't interacted with anyone here. Though if she's around the same age, she could be attending the same school as Atsuko. Friends however? Unlikely.

or he could attend the same school even?

So I was writing up my "lucky" character, when I learned I could only max out his luck stat to about rank 5 (half our PL) leaving him with quite a lot of points left.

Any ideas on supplementary gear or powers? I wanna keep the theme of his being mostly normal, but most I can think of is him transforming into an adonis of a human with all his stats at 10 (removable device with activation).

Any ideas?

Could give him a lot of skills, jack of all trades sorta deal.

Ok, fixing my character up a bit, lowering down to flying 3, and regeneration 1 to boost plamsa control up to 6

I feel like I should note Atsuko is 22, and probably getting towards the end of her college education. Definitely not a teenager, and currently looking for a career and a way to be independent. XD

Whelp, Masumi most certainly does not know any of you then.

Axel, Atsuko, and Darkstorm could all go to the same college.

Oh huh... I thought immunity was included in the no stamina but on second look it just mentions that that's a common effect. Damn, that's like 30 points...

Hmm, didn't realize perception range meant no attack roll. Well that will give me some points back... but I still want to maintain the no physical form. Looks like if I don't have to make an attack roll then I can get rid of Concentration as well, which means for the 42 points in the array I can get it up to rank 10 :)

Zen Gypsy wrote:

I don't think it's really overkill. Extend 5 means he gets -1 to his perception roll for each 1 million feet, or each 189.4 miles, so if he's on the east coast of america he would have -12 or -13 to reach the west cost. Seems like a pretty good radius to me :p

As to acute and Radius I bought those for the entire Mental sense type. Track... maybe, but gonna have to find points for immunity, so probably not right now, easy enough to pick it up later.

Zen Gypsy wrote:

Fair enough.

Zen Gypsy wrote:

Yeah, that was me misreading/misinterpretting the absent stamina section. Gonna be tricky to find 30 points though :s Thanks for the feedback :)

Oh, yeah, this has blown up quite nicely.
For the questions on backstory, anything you can't link together, I can handle relatively simply. Everyone need not be born in Eden City, as the Phantom might be casting his net wide, and contacting whomever might be a good fit for the team by heading to their city/country himself, so that way Masumi and Tau can start in their home countries and just... transfer, so to speak, when the call arrives.

@Peanuts
That would be great. I like the budding immortality aspect of it. I don't mind you borrowing from Watchmen at all. It did so much right with it's characters and story we can forgive it for what it did to comics in the 90s :)
If you want to go through some of the deceased's character building, I would be happy to collaberate with you via PM. I might have an idea.
I'd also keep in mind what Zen said. I'd hate for anything to happen to thoughtform prematurely.
XD No kill like overkill, I always say.

@Inxplitter
I'd be fine by it, though you might have to include a bit as to how the Phantom would notice you. Any exploits he might have heard about over the heroic grape vine and such. I agree on that it's cool, it gives me a sort of Constantine feel.
Hm... for the extra points... I don't know exactly what you might be going for. Perhaps a few luck-flavored things, maybe the manipulation of luck to others, giving the bad guys bad juju, an immunity to walking underneath ladders, yada yada.

Alright, for my next post, there will be a list of the applicants so far (unless another charitable soul would like to volunteer...)

Though I do have to caution you about playing a mentalist that's immune to nearly everything. It's a big pain on the GM. It means that every group has to have a mental attacker or somebody with affects insubstantial. Otherwise the heroes simply win. I'd suggest having something else that can affect you.

@Jaster I'm quite fine with her having moved to Eden City already, because if anything, I doubt her mother would appreciate her daughter leaving to another country all on her own.

Eight so far, I think, if I'm not missing anyone. All good concepts, and none of them I want to imagine cutting from the team.
Though I could probably end recruitment here before it gets too big and take you all in... Hm...
Any thoughts?

I had a freind– [Technical Difficulty] –who wanted a shot at it, and applied earlier. Though, he hasn't gotten to making his hero yet, I was gonna help him with it later. 8 Is indeed a solid number though, so I suppose that's your figure mate.

If he still wants to join I wouldn't mind him writing something up. I've handled larger parties IRL. It might be difficult, but if he has a solid concept, I'll definitely consider him.

It may be best to end recruitment, if i dont sound to greedy for a spot. Based on the people, and their ideas i would personally hate to possibly miss out on playing with them. Not to mention this story concept seems amazing. I would like to see TD included though since he didjump on early on into the recruitment

This is my opinion though, and all choices are up to the DM.

*EDIT: The final Sheet

Hi all, I don't want to try and hijack a spot here, but I just found the posting. I am brand new to M&M, but long time Pathfinder player. I have a couple of character concepts in mind that I have started tinkering with in Hero Lab. They are adaptations of Pathfinder characters I have that thematically would probably be better used in a supers type setting. One of which is a teleporting melee/speed junky...kind of like the movie Jumper, but I swear I had the character concept before the movie! He is more or less a monster, looking like something from a nightmare (claws, a mouth that is too big for the size of the head, random bony mutations, etc), but is actually a good guy. I've noticed that there is someone already similar to that, so I wouldn't submit him if I did make a submission.

My second concept is someone who's entire super power is from a very large hammer (similar in design to a warhammer power hammer). His drawback is that if he lets go of the hammer he loses all super abilities. I would be happy to flesh this out and submit it if that's acceptable. However, I at least would like to get a few questions answered in terms of building characters in this system. I have 0 frame of reference, and the books haven't totally gotten the information for me. What kind of stats should a melee super be shooting for in terms of things like parry, agility, strength, toughness, etc for a standard PL 10 game? I truly have no idea what are adequate numbers (thought I admit I may have missed it in the rule books). Secondarily, for a concept where all powers come from an item would I still put points into the attributes, or is there a way to link that to the item as well?

What about stats for a ranged type/magical type character?

Pre-emptive thanks for the tips, and if a submital is still allowed I would be happy to get him fleshed out tomorrow.

Just a question, would it be too much if I had damaging abilities that were explained as random accidents that worked out in my character's favor? For example, Weaken as his power would actually him be accidentally clogging up an enemy's power armor in a stroke of luck.

Or, my preferred idea, is he has a "sidekick" that has the damaging abilities for him. In actuality, it would be a very zealous person he saved the life of and believes its his/her duty to protect my character, no matter how much that actually bothers him.

<.<

Funny how I would've fit in this one too.

This is what I have so far. The main concept is an heir to a legacy of collectors. He has been trained and raised to be skilled most everything human though his control of luck is somewhat unknown (he has a hunch though). Most of his other powers stem from artifacts he's collected and can utilize (draws from culture, religion, history, and mythology).

I have some points left for another artifact, but want to make sure this kind of character and setting is alright. Most artifacts I'm creating are Removable (-2) so can be used by most anyone.

Also, added a 2nd edition power (dimensional pocket) for an artifact (Saint Nick's Magic Sack). Is that okay? couldn't find the stats, but I know they've released a 3rd edition for it in a supplement book.

And yet, such great treasures cannot be hidden for long, and one quiet night they were whisked away without a trace. As the youngest head of the Cabricornious family, Felix has been raised to be the best in everything, a renaissance man. Now his mission is to reclaim the stolen items before they are used to bring misfortune, and maybe find a few new ones along the way.

Phobia - Dogs
There was a particular vicious young guard dog that wasn't used to Felix as a child. Suffice it to say it did a wonderful job mauling him when Felix was "trespassing" on his home estate. Ever since, Felix has been oddly nervous around anything canine.

Relationship - Hallison Archwood
A young hero, making her way through the ranks. She and Felix met while pursuing the same criminal. He wanted the artifact, she wanted the crook. It was a clear team-up in the making. Time passed and they grew to become good friends, and while they considered each other romantically, neither has the time to actually do anything about it. Enemy - Cultural/ Religious Organizations
Some consider his family thieves, while others see them as lucky buyers. Whatever the case, they want the artifacts for themselves and this mysterious family keeps buying, stealing, and finding them before they can. This has led to a bit of....contention....between the two groups.

Woot! Glad you like the newer version :) Going to be tricky trying to squeeze an extra 30 points out of the character, but I'll see how I go! Might need to trim his array back a little...

As to collaborating on background that sounds excellent! Will be tomorrow before I can get you what I have already, but definitely up for collaborating, I find it results in a much more fully realized and detailed character :) If you want to PM me your idea in the meantime that'd be great. For now though I'm off to get ready for Batman v Superman.

Hey look! I've come back! :D

And here are the screenshots of my character's PDF (because I don't have M&M purchased on Hero Lab and could only run in demo mode xD) along with the basic crunch stuff! :) Thanks for your patience! ^^ Really excited about using this character - gotta lot of fun ideas for him x3

Complications:

COMPLICATION:
Addiction:

Sometimes, one little taste is all you need to be hooked. To be captured in the snares of a substance. Something that creates such a wonderful and potent effect on you that your cravings literally cause you pain when you’re without it. It’s times like this that you wish there was more public education on these things, but honestly - who could’ve guessed that canned cat food could be addicting to your species?

Monstrous:
Apparently wearing a helmet and battle suit with a trench coat over-top is still unappreciated on this planet. Due to his inhuman appearance, he never allows himself to be without his stealth suit outside his base. Though it hides his features well-enough, it still leads people to be untrusting and suspicious of him in public when he has to interact with others. When interaction is avoidable, he prefers to keep invisible, so that prying eyes will not fall on to him.

Motivation - Patriotism:
You have a mission, and you will fulfill that mission. Some might see being sent to another planet as a punishment - as being exiled. You have a higher sense of honour though. This isn’t your fault - this is your duty. You’ve been tasked with serving as a defender of Earth and its inhabitants indefinitely because you’ve proven that you are capable, and you will fulfill that mission even if it means you never get to return home. Sometimes this may mean protecting the planet from the very people that occupy it, and sometimes it may mean defending Earth from your own race - the threat doesn’t matter. It’s just your job to be ready.

Backstory:

Raised on the distant planet of Uur’thrana, Mk’voryal grew following his father’s honourable footsteps. His family life was basic for their species, and their status was only raised so slightly by being involved in the military. Mk’voryal was just your average Uur’tharanan, until he began to show interest in his father’s career. This gave him direction - a chance to hone some talents and to develop into something more. As the years passed and the alien grew, he was accepted into the military and would eventually specialize in infiltration and other “black ops.” Taking a preference towards range, he studied close-quarters combat as well should the need arise, and under his father’s guidance Mk’voryal would do his family proud. Though there were greater warriors than him, his talents would be appreciated by the military leaders who deemed him worthy of a special mission. A new program was under development: one where they would send operatives to other planets to help protect the inhabitants there. After extensive profiling and surveying, Mk’voryal was determined to be perfect for serving as a defender of Earth. When the news reached their home, he was more than proud to serve his commander and still holds his position with the highest regards to this day. Though he knows that he will never be able to return home, just knowing that he is honourably serving his planet, his family, and himself is more than enough to keep him going.

Personality Example:

Mk'voryal appears in front of cashier with armloads of cat food.
Mk’voryal: “I request you to charge me for these.”
Cashier: “WHAO, WHAT THE F@#~?? How did you do that??”
Mk’voryal: “I merely approached from your blind-side after determining what was required in this convenience outlet. I have done nothing abnormal.”
Cashier: “I… This.. Sure, okay - lemme ring this up for you..”
Cashier totals the purchase.
Cashier: “…This sure is a lot of cat food…”
Mk’voryal: “THERE IS NO NEED FOR YOU TO INVESTIGATE FURTHER. I MERELY SEEK THESE FOR NORMAL PURPOSES. TERMINATE YOUR DESIRES FOR INVESTIGATION. ARE YOU NOT THE ABNORMAL ONE FOR SEEKING PROFUNDITY IN SOMETHING SO MUNDANE???”
Cashier: “…. That’ll be $35… Please pay and leave already…”
Mk’voryal: “Negative… I have coupons…”

I'm building him an alias too - I'll post on here when it's ready :)

An updated version. Key changes are gifting allies he touches with improved defense.

Now to work on his complications and background.

Thought form looks pretty neat.

Thoughtform is still pretty dang cool even if ya [i]did] have to drop some things!

Hmm... now I might have to make a few cuts, or end the recruitment with Technical Difficulty's character. Nine shouldn't be too much more to handle than eight.

As for his character, it's too fun a concept to ignore. I mean, cat food as an addiction, come one. The delivery was spot on as well.

Yep, recruitment's closed. The original eight plus Mk’voryal Cn-Yarlo. Do you mind if the Phantom calls you Mick?

First post will be up either today or tomorrow.

Nine players seems... pretty high for a play-by-post game. XD; Are you sure you wouldn't rather try two tables of 4-5 instead?

I'm fine. My main concern was viable threats but I have ways of making my gamers wet themselves in fear at the awesome might of their GM. Trust me, you'll all be huddled together and crying in no time.

inb4 Knights of the Nine reference

Awesome! I'm glad you like it! ^^ Not bad for a M&M first-timer, eh? >:D

And yes - "Mick" is close to how I imagine it pronounced anyway, so Mick away! x3

Crap, maybe I do need a super awesome alternate form. Then again, I really like channeling Nathan Drake and Lara Croft in my current PC.

Be our resident near-normal!The one person int he group who isn't some weirdo wearing spandinx or is absolutely terrifying.

I will take up this mantle with honor. I look forward to waking up in the morning, walking down to breakfast, seeing no-one that looks human, walking back upstairs, and going back to bed.

Well, you can't see my guy unless you can penetrate concealment anyway :p that or detect minds.

*raises hand~* Masumi could most certainly see him! She has that whole... Ultra-mega-you-can't-hide-from-me sight. Sneaking up behind her? Naw, she can see you without turning around. Oh, it's dark out? She can see perfectly fine. Using an illusion to conceal yourself? Illusions mean nothing! Oh, now you're using using good ol' invisibility eh? SHE'S LOOKING RIGHT AT YOU. I mean, her head didn't move, but she's still looking right at you.

I'm sure there are other ghings that could counter her that way, But vision generally won't be a problem.

"Miiiikaaahhh! MIIIIIIIKKKAAAAAH!"

hmmm fun Uret :p Going to be pretty hard to hide from Thoughtform too (though not as hard as it would have been before I had to buy immunity, he has to pick and choose between his mental senses now). He doesn't have penetrates concealment, but foes would need to be able to hide their mind/mental presence and emotions to avoid his notice :) Not impossible though...

Thanks cant wait to play.

So...a team huh?

With nine ... NINE ... heroes, we should probably come to a decision as to whether we all know one another or not, perhaps even start as a team ... it may be really difficult for Jaster to pull nine very eclectic characters together without some sort of collaboration between the PC's themselves.

Thoughts, opinions?

nine is a very ambitious number. but if GM says he can, it can be fun

ideas on how to link? not sure
