A Core PFS campaign that will go from level 1 through level 12, completing all of Season 5 in the process.

At least, that was the original plan. We made it to 5th level with a few characters leaving and others joining. At that point life had gotten in the way for several of the players and interest in Core was waning. The group had one last run and then we closed it down.

An Aside (COVID):

I had a positive test come back on Wednesday so I'm at home on quarantine for the next several days. Currently asymptomatic and feeling fine; hopefully it'll stay that way. But in the event I *do* start feeling puny and disappear for more than a couple of days, that'll likely be why.

Not wanting to worry anyone but I feel I'd be remiss if I didn't give you guys a heads-up just in case.

Yep, still feeling fine! I've had two follow-up rapid tests (one today and one yesterday) as well as an antibody test and everything came back negative. Given that I've been asymptomatic all this time it's possible that my initial PCR swab might've been a false positive *or* I just happened to get lucky and kicked it quickly and just haven't developed antibodies yet. Either way, it's looking like I should be clear to return to work Friday night (which just happens to be when my next shift is; I'd normally be off today and tomorrow anyway).

Now that I have two housepanthers I'm discovering just how true of a statement this is. The big one (who's got to be every bit of 9-10 lbs and loves to really lean against me when he gets on the bed) tends to sleep around my hip/midsection to where I'm basically spooning him (I'm largely a side-sleeper) and the little one likes to lie at my feet. Glad to hear you're still feeling well, Ladile! Interesting that you raise the notion of a false positive on a PCR test. I've just wrapped up running a large cleanup operation after California's recent wildfires, and we were PCR testing ~150 multiple times a week. We got some positive results followed by multiple negatives, and did a lot of digging into the technical literature (and I work for EPA, so the digging was done by scientists), and concluded that the chance of a false positive with a PCR test is vanishingly small, whereas the likelihood or a false negative is orders of magnitude greater.

The more likely scenarios, rather than a false positive, are that the follow-up tests were false negatives (counter-intuitive, but supported by the math) or that your positive test was at the tail end of your active infection, and thus was at too low a level for the follow-up tests to detect it.

As for the cat behavior - my two cats don't sleep with me (I'm ever so slightly allergic, so cat dander in my bed makes me sneeze), but they compete for couch space with me and my partner like their lives depend on it. But in a low-key, oozing fashion. And my bigger cat is 12-13 pounds, so he has some weight to throw around!

Cat dander causes my eyes to itch and tear up. With prolonged exposure (about a day or two) it can also cause me to wheeze.

At home we always had at least one indoor cat and multiple outdoor dogs. The cats were never allowed in my bedroom because if allowed they would always nap on my pillows.

COVID Stuff:

Oh sure, I didn't mean that a false positive on a PCR swab was likely but it's a possibility. I get a PCR swab done weekly at work and the one I'd had done the week prior was negative, so it's certainly possible - and as you pointed out, most likely - that the previous one slipped in right before my active infection began and the one that was positive fell at the tail end of my active infection period.

I wasn't too surprised about my antibody test as we see that a lot and my research into the current literature on the matter indicates that it can take up to 3 weeks after an infection before antibodies start to show up in the system. So if I get another test in a few weeks it may very well show up as reactive.

Cat dander does irritate my eyes but usually only if I actually touch them after having handled a cat. Any sort of scratch or nick from kitty claws, on the other hand, puff up and itch something awful for a short time - more so than the average person, anyway.

^Whoops, I somehow missed that earlier. Kleines is correct; someone tried to kill the bard trio but given they were poisoned in the middle of a party with a bunch of Pathfinders present there were several folks right there able to give them medical attention in time :)

I realize with the holidays and things, it is difficult to guess. Still, do you think it is likely that this scenario will be done by Jan 4th?

If not, no worries. I was looking to join a game that GM Top is running which is scheduled to start then. I just would like to let him know at least a week before his game starts if it looks like it will be a problem.

Hey, sorry it took me a bit to get back to you on this! We've basically got two more combat encounters and another brief RP section before we wrap up. Still, even with the holidays almost upon us, I think we can wrap it up by/before Jan 4th if folks are able to post somewhat regularly and/or don't mind me being more aggressive with combat botting. I'll make updating this game top of my priority list as well. Hopefully that will work? :)

Since it isn't clear to me, thought I would ask now.

Where are we as far as daily preparations? Did we get enough sleep that our spell slots and such reset, or are we still going off the previous day's spells? Do we have an opportunity to change up our spells before going into the buildings where the Pikers are?

You're still running off the previous day's spells. The scenario basically expects you to go now rather than rest for the remainder of the night.

Like...the majority of the foes in this scenario aren't actually all that tough (unless the players roll badly or the GM rolls really well) so some of the difficulty comes from all of the action happening in roughly a single 24 hour period.

The majority of scenarios don't allow prepared casters to know what they are facing before preparing their spells. I was given hope that this would be an exception.

Just going to put down some ideas on the attack. I will go with whatever plan works for people.

* Attack guard at the south end of the route — when he is furthest from help. Maybe we would get lucky and no warning is heard.
* Someone gets close with Invisibilty and Pass Without Trace. Hopefully the Pass Without Trace prevents them from smelling you. The description just talks about tracking via scent.
* Phin tries to fascinate the dogs as the rest of us try to take out the guard as quickly as we can.
* We could probably get a couple of people to the sand pile while the guard is at the western leg of his southern patrol.

If we can take out the guard without raising an alarm, that would help a lot. If we can’t, we’ll at least the one big battle is out in the open rather than potentially spread over multiple rooms.

Who wants to sneak? I would have Iovo do it, but her chance to hit is miserable. :(

After reading the description as well as a quick forum search the general consensus (and one I agree with) is that Pass Without Trace would indeed prevent someone from being sniffed out with Scent, if that helps :)

I'm also still committed to getting you guys wrapped up in time for Iovo & Damiar to make their next game. I'll be going Rule of Two for your plan of attack and we won't drag battles out if it can be helped; as long as it's pretty sure to resolve in your favor then that's what I'll do instead of making you knock down/chase down every single enemy.

(I'll fully admit I'm one of the more 'stop and smell the roses' GMs around when it comes to pacing but I swear even I usually get my games done more quickly than this. Apologies again for things taking so long and as always, thank you for your patience.)

Tonight I'm GMing so putting this here in case the action needs to move forward.

It doesn't sound like anyone else is looking to go invisible, so Iovo will do it. Quaff the two potions and get into position. Use her Message spell to communicate. Her take 10 for stealth is a 17, plus the modifier for invisibility.

If we follow someone else's plan, great. She will help however she can.

Did the blue line change? I thought it went all the way to the west end of map on the south side.

Regardless, she gets into position to attack at the southern most portion of the guard's path. Others get as close as they reasonably can. Coordinate via Message spell for when the attack happens.

Assuming that casting Chill Touch negates invisibility, she would start with the Sap then if possible switch to Chill Touch. If just casting it doesn't negate invisibility, she would use that on the surprise round with her sneak attack.

Either way, she intends to do non-lethal to start.

No changes to the blue line but yes, the guard and her dogs do patrol all the way to the western end of the map on the south side.

As best as I understand it, I don't believe the casting of Chill Touch would break the invisibility, just the act of actually trying to reach out and touch someone with it.

Since you've put forward a plan I'll go ahead and see if I can set it in motion for you.

Dang, just missed posting before the bot! Sorry to be so absent, it's been an oddly busy time for me of late.

GM - Garif would have used his wand of magic stone prior to starting the encounter. So the attack would have done 1d6+3 damage. If you'd prefer not to retcon that damage, that's fine, I'll just account for it going forward.

Okay folks, while there's technically another encounter in the northern building (the patrol encounter can bleed into it if they manage to sound the alarm) I'm not sure if we have enough time to resolve it before Iovo & Damiar need to be ready for their next game. Skipping it won't affect prestige or chronicle boons but it will affect the amount of gold you earn.

What say you?

We have until the 14th, but I’m not sure that is enough time for another battle.

How much of the story would we lose? If it is just a barrracks full of Piker grunts, I’m all for skipping it. If the battle somehow advances the story, that would be different.

Pike grunts but also the actual poisoner of the bard trio. There's also additional evidence you can find to help the case against Dulm/to free Zig but the scenario is set up in such a way that you don't have to get every single piece in order to get your prestige points.

Looked over some of our past fights. I'm not surprised that they usually take more than four days.

As much as I would like to catch the real poisoner, I don't think we could finish another fight before the deadline. At this point, I think I would rather focus on any remaining role-play and wrap it up.

That said, the other scenario is one that both Hilary and I have played in standard campaign (Song of the Sea Witch) so I'm willing to continue with this if that is what the group wants.

Hmm...after poking about the GM thread for the scenario a little more and doing some other reading around I think I've got a way to still get that last little tidbit of story - in a way that makes narrative sense - without making you guys fight another battle.

Sounds great. Seems regardless of what happens, we will want to sneak the slaves out first, get them to safety. Thus my post in gameplay.

I wasn’t sure what mechanically would be required there, but figured at very least Iovo can help unlock people. The guard probably has keys, but having yet another person who can unlock people is still useful.

So I updated the Campaign information with where we ended it, leaving the plan in case someone else becomes interested in it.

At this point I believe we can mark this campaign no longer active. Let me know if there is some reason I shouldn’t do that.

In the meantime, Iovo has run off to Absalom. Seems there is a historian who experimented with a magical tome. He did not follow proper procedure and now she is part of the group asked to fix the mess.
