Discussion is here. Please dot in with your alias for this campaign. This will let me see what spoilers I need to fix.

Dot. Spoiler already fixed. :)

Edit: my DC 15 doesn't want to show up

Fixed. Put the info in the race line

Inmate 222614 (DC 25 Investigation)::
Box and Hypatia are the same, an adventurer named Jane Jackson whose father was a state senator. Her adventurer persona supported her father publicly, while directing police towards her enemies
Inmate 222614 (DC 15 History)::
This is the adventurer by the name of Hypatia. She is known for being able to have some talent with magic, and her powers of observation.
Inmate 222614 (DC 15 Investigation):
This is the criminal gang leader Box. She was the leader of a small adventurer criminal band who did not have a specific M.O., making them difficult for the authorities to capture.

Dot. The History and DC 25 Investigation sections both overrun.

Outrun here.

History info doesn't quite fit. But I'm dotting now anyways :)

Looks like my DC 15 check isn't showing up though.

Inmate 1547 (DC 10 Investigation)::
This is one of a group of people called Similé, an espionage organization that almost operates as a shadow government.
Inmate 1547 (DC 25 Investigation)::
The supposed organization Similé is actually a single person, a shapeshifter who can mimic any person living or dead, real or imagined.
DC 35 Perception:
: Similé isn't actually human. While the appearance is definitely human, the body language is subtly off, and would be missed by a person with lesser powers of observation.

Testing?

Aha, need to use Gender, not Alignment field.

Note: Avatar picture subject to change.

I'm excited to see what everyone has been keeping under wraps!

I had hoped to get everyone to sign in before starting, but since that does not appear to be possible, I'm going to go ahead and get the gameplay thread open. I'll have a first post up shortly.

Huzzah!

First gameplay post is up. Go nuts!

Inmate 333442334243 (DC 15 Arcana):
This guy is known as the Venumancer. He mutters to himself alot and talks to people who aren't there. He's pretty nutso. He can also make wierd things happen.
Inmate 333442334243 (DC 20 Arcana):
The Venumancer is a well-known wizard (with all that title entails) in the circles of people who can actually use magic. Those who idolize magic using adventurers have set up a fan club for him, n
Inmate 333442334243 (DC 35 Arcana):

dotting...

My 2nd and 3rd over-ran.

Sorry, I need one day more or so to finalise my spell selection!

Are we allowed to read each other's gameplay spoilers as long as we don't meta-game the info? It would be nice to see what the others come up with as far as environment and such. Maybe we could avoid setting up conflicting spaces that way?

Also, first! :P

Inmate 14259 (Arcana DC 15):
This guy is known as the Console Cowboy, a glory-seeking adventurer who can point his fingers at people and make them explode.
Arcana DC 25:
He can make magic happen by speaking in tongues, and uses digital technology to combine magic into interesting effects.
Arcana DC 35:
The Console Cowboy's real name is Jason Majors, a white hat hacktivist and digital infiltration specialist.

Okay, think I got this working.

This is alot of writing for you, Vrog. :)

As I said in the recruitment, please do not read any spoiler not for you. Each of you will be getting different plot elements, including some related to your backstories, and I want you all to be able to share them with the group or not as you desire.

Fortunately, I now have most of the main part of the initial posting taken are of. You should be able to join each other soon and get a chance to learn things about the others, using the spoilers that I am still working on for some of you.

Thanks for your patience, and I look forward to what is coming greatly.

*steeples fingers like Mr. Burns from the Simpsons* EGGSELENT.

I think we shall soon meet, for I have been called somewhere to do something. And vrog can't keep this up forever, so I hope we do come together before he burns out! :P

It's certainly odd having a game where you only know 20% of what's going on or who's involved.

Also as someone who in RL games tends to fill out the party (i.e. I'm happy to play anything so fill out what roles seem to be missing). So not knowing whether we're a rounded or focussed group, it's a bit odd.

Indeed. A very new experience. Not that it's a bad thing.

It sort of reminds me of a game format my University RPG Society uses which is a mixture of live-action and play-by-post. Each week you would receive a personal (and private) response to what your character had been up to for that time period and a news update which all the players (or all the players in a faction) saw. The feeling of stuff going on but not knowing what is very similar.

Part of my intent for this game (and indeed for a lot of games I run) is to allow people to play what they want. Too often I see people (including the same person multiple times) fall into the trap of "well, I wanted to play a rogue, but there were already 4 rogues in the group and we really need a cleric", so I like to run games where people make characters without consulting the party first, so that if everyone shows up with a rogue, they can all play what they want.

I don't always do this, of course, but I try to do it where I can. It tends to make the game more entertaining for everyone, even if there are more character deaths or healing becomes consumables based.

It's a very interesting take, and I appreciate it. After several years in pbp it's quite refreshing.

Alright, was traveling for a few days. Will try to catch up.

I wait with baited breath.

Massive wall of exposition is GO! (weew!)

And it was awesome. This thing is really kicking off well! :)

Also: no more spoilers! Wheee!

Out of curiosity, does the Rat's terrible blood thing count as either a poison or a disease? Asking for.... a friend...

nope. It doesn't really effect you at all, unless he decides to have his blood go crazy on your central nervous system. Then, well, it's more like a shotgun then a disease.

Ah, got it, so it's sort of a telekinetic attack.

I prefer to think of it like a horde of tiny Chest Bursters.

I'm hopping for another wall of text tonight. :)

Stupid site outages slowing us down. :(

ya, the site outage was a pain in the heinie, but it's back now, and the next part of the story is up.

I'm liking this method of party formation. It's interesting. :)

Yup it's very cool. Super curious to who stays and who goes.

Also, should I change my character's name to Overrun? ;)

When should we be rolling knowledges on people? Now?

Edit: and how does that work in the absence of skill points?

Hmm, wonder if I should've sprung for Conjure Knowbot. Would've let me actually hack into the internet through a security camera... ah well. Should those of us staying behind be rolling knowledge checks on the "dangerous" prisoners, or does that wait until I can find a way to patch into wikipedia (adventurepedia)?

Okay, a couple of quick things:

As far as making knowledge checks on the "monsters" goes, it's really not a thing you can do, since the league has basically removed all information regarding their existance from any database anywhere. The three you've seen so far: The being made of plasma, the girl, and the shadow being are going to be villains that both groups will likely have to deal with.

As far as making knowledge checks on each other, give me a day or two to get things locked down and then I'll let you each make checks on the others. I need to get a gameplay thread built for the people who are going with the Rat, and then I'll get that storyline hopping.

Speaking of, am I right in that everyone but 626 has decided to stay in prison?

I think 1 or 2 other people were on the fence?

Party of one! Woot! Watch me get captured again and join the league party in a suicide squad kind of way. :P

I totally thought there were more people that were gonna join the Rat.

Should we divide up a bit more? Simile could change her mind, though she is an idealist and would view working for Rat as way of working against him from within, rather than truly join his cause.

That is completely up to you, I think. 626 is playing things a bit close to the chest, but I dare to say that the Rat will regret having him along in the end. ;)

GM, will it be possible for those with the Rat to contact those in the other party somehow? Maybe use dead drops, secret messages, or something?

Eh. A few people initially seemed interested in working with him, but maybe that was before it was clear this was a choice to split.

I initially decided to join him because I thought it would be cool if I found out things in (what is so far but may not be exclusively) my thread and started dropping hints to the good guys or became a kind of friendly(?) force on the inside of the Rat's operation. If that's not possible then 626 may have some thinking to do.

I mean... heroic alignments and all, it's a pretty divisive choice to say "we're the murder faction," so, fair enough. He could've probably posed it as more of a lawful vs chaotic split, but the specifics of this plan seem more good vs evil (as in, classic superhero teams instead of, say, watchman type teams)

Fair enough. I could easily also slip into a villain role and make messes for youall to clean up. ;)

to answer your questions 626, you're not sure what your ability to communicate with the party would be like, although probably not good, considering that doing dead drops takes time to set up.

As far as the good vs. evil thing goes, even when telling such stories, I try to make both sides (if not something you can agree with) internally consistant and strive to make them both appealing, or at the very least understandable as to why they do the things they do.

And I couldn't have everything go the Rat's way, because then you wouldn't have a chance to choose (as who would choose to oppose someone who could scramble your central nervous system, or cause blood clots in your brain?)

Just so you know where I am, I would like these threads to have some contact. Pathfinder is a group game, after all. So I would like these threads to feel like the same game world, and anything I can do to help make that happen I will gladly do. If that is just too much I am totally ok with bringing 626 into the main group somehow.
