"Well, you're certainly no artist, now are you?" Shiori asks rhetorically, handing the man his notebook back. "Any particular reason why you are drawing these things? They look like some sort of aboleth." She points to one of them, "These are tentacles right? And he has 3 eyes, so it must be an aboleth." She then points to another one of the pictures. "And why are these uhh kobolds? playing with harrow cards? It sure is an odd illustration to say the least." She didn't understand much about the harrow, Sandru had offered to give her a harrowing before, but Shiori couldn't make heads or tails of any of it, truth be told.

Shirota steps in, lowering the hood from his cloak from his head. He looks around and fails to spot Ameiko nearby. Sighing a little, he steps over to Shiori. Speaking in Tien, he taps her on the shoulder. "Guess who's back in town?" He chuckles some as he hands her two gold pieces and jerks his head, motioning towards Sandru. "This should cover him for the evening, right?" He hoped so, but then again Sandru knew how to drink. Heavily. Often...

Lantern Lodge

Exiel continues to sip his tea silently at his table on the balcony of the Rusty Dragon, paying little heed to the buzz of conversation coming from the taproom below. His eyes however scan the room periodically, albeit somewhat absently, as if he were looking for something or someone in particular, and little else mattered in comparison.

It's been awhile since Shalelu's visited the Rusty Dragon. I wonder where she is now...

"It might, if he'd stopped drinking an hour ago." Shiori says looking over the gold pieces. "If you're looking for Amei-ne, she's busy preparing for something or other, I forget what it was." She scratches her head for a moment before making an 'oh well' gesture. "In any case, she's too nice to Sandru, and if he passes out, I'm not the one escorting him out." Of course, Shiori knew why her sister was nice to Sandru, she knew that a part of her felt responsible for the man's loss, and she disliked that Sandru reminded her sister of his brother every time they saw each other, but there was little that Shiori could do about that.

"It's a dragon, not an aboleth." Danirius rolls his eyes at her skills as an art critic. If you must know it is from an ancient painting from Niahpur of a copper dragon. But if you look here, it is not exactly... His face lights up as he begins to explain the features of this unusual dragon. Although it is hard to tell if the difference he points out are just a result of his obvious need to practice drawing.

How do you like the half dragon dwarves? He asks jokingly, pointing to what Shiori thought were kobolds.

After being interrupted by Shirota, and straining to hear the Tian being spoken, he pulls a second book from somewhere within his cloak and flips through it frantically for a second before making a subtle gesture of victory to himself and putting the book away. He looks to see if Shiori is still paying attention to him

"Dwarves, so you're saying that's supposed to be a beard? It looked like a necklace to me, why do they have rat skulls in their beards?" There were so many other questions that one could bring up about the 'half dragon dwarves' as the man so called them, but the rat skulls did strike her as the most peculiar.

Its a kobold skull. He says flatly. The Dwarves kill them to absorb the greater concentration of draconic power they contain... At this point, he fails to hide the beginnings of laughter and it is pretty obvious that he is just seeing how far he can string Shiori along with ridiculous explanations. He smiles.

"You're making fun of me, aren't you?" Shiori says in a pouty voice, before adding. "Hasn't anyone ever told you not to bite the hand that feeds you? If you really upset me, just imagine what I could do to your refill." She puffs up her cheeks and looks away, before chuckling at the idea of a dwarf with a kobold skull in it's beard. "If they want a greater concentration of draconic power, why don't they go after the aboleth...err the copper dragon?" She looks at the picture again, not sure how anyone could see that as a copper dragon when it is clearly an aboleth.

You're right, I certainly shouldn't bite the hand that quenches my thirst at any rate. He pauses and thinks for a beat. If you have any draconic power back there I'd like some of that too. He continues with at least pretty good comic timing and clearly self depreciating humor.

"Nuh-uh, No you don't. I drank some on a dare once and had to empty half a rain barrel just to stop the burning. Trust me, you don't want anything that has dragon's on the label."

From the look on Allysen's face, she's not joking.

Turning to the newcomer, she puts her hand to her chin, tapping one finger as she thought.

"You're She-row-tah, right? Pull up a seat and have some mead!"

Guys, you might want to ask the MiniGm before you flood his recruitment thread with RPing. I've seen GMs who don't like it before.

I think I'm done with Gorou. Not 100% happy with the drawing, but it gets the point across.

My PFS number is 12663.

He could serve the roles of driver, guard, or scout in the caravan. With the amount of skill points he gets I could easily cover one of the other roles if needed after second level.

Let me know if you see a mistake, or something you don't like MiniGm and I'll gladly change it :) Hope you like him.

And suddenly, all quiet in the Recruitment thread...

Hey Orochi, long time no see! She grins warmly Course that's my fault just having come back from a month-long patrol. She sighs wearily and rubs her back. On that note, I'm as keen as you to hear the gossip and fill my boots with the warmth of company. I'll grab us some drinks and we can catch up. Though judging by how full the Dragon has gotten in the last quarter hour, we may struggle to hear each other over Ameiko's siblings! She tips an exaggerated wink in Shiori's direction and smiles mischievously.

pretty awkward because unless I am mistaken his youngest dies in book two of RotRL…I thnk he does too

its ok, if you guys are having fun…just know that it is not required, if you don't participate in it it does not affect your chances…nor does doing it really. But if it is fun then please go for it

All good and understandable, but MiniGM hasn't expressed feeling either way yet, and everyone seems to be on a roll, so I say keep going till told not to ;)

Wow. My timing is just... wow! ;)

currently i think there are 8 or 9 that i am heavily considering…also debating what to do if there is no healer…though i will say that our cleric is one of the ones in contention

Wow, go to work for the day and suddenly you no longer have any idea what is going on o.O

Wow, I go to work and nearly get snowed in.

lol, but seriously, best of luck to all here. n_n

Not trying to damper anyone's fun! Now that the GM has said he's cool with it by all means. I might even participate, though I don't really want to get more than 10 posts with the Gorou alias so if I don't get picked I can delete/recycle it.

It's the older sister and he lives, or at least I don't remember there being a part where he dies. If I remember right she dies after catching the villain sacrificing her lover in the sawmill. Or it could be different in the older version. I just have the anniversary edition.

"I think it's Ameiko's turn, unless Shiori wants to do the honors."

As another person walks in, Allysen shifts her bar stool so she can get a better view of the common room and the door. She raises her mug to Kazumi and gives out a cheer.

"Welcome to the Rusty Dragon. Pull up a chair and spin us a yarn!"

Shaking his head he looks at Allysen. "My name is pronounced... Never mind. Sure, I'll take a mead and listen to some tales. Might have one of my own too!" He goes to a table and sits down, nervously looking around on occasion to try and spot Ameiko. After all, her sister and friend were here and this is her tavern, so she can't be that far away.

Lantern Lodge

Darinius, since you're already named your spear, does this mean you've worked out a tale for it of your own? Or will you still be waiting to hear the tale I've spun?

As Exiel continues to alternate between staring out into the street and back into the taproom, he starts to take note of the exchange between Shiori and the large human in the flashy cloak. Eventually his eyes are drawn to the spear by the big man's side. A clink of porcelain on porcelain rings out from the balcony as Exiel gives a start and inadvertently drives his shin into a table leg. For the first time this evening, the whereabouts of a pretty elven archer are not at the forefront of his thoughts.

"I...Thank you. I should've been more specific about what kind of information I wanted."

From the Player's guide I get that there is a npc cleric traveling with you... Might be a solution until you get a wand of CLW.

Did one last little edit on my character by adding the starting relationship score.

Shirota rises and approaches Orochi. Pulling a chair out and sitting down, he gives the nagaji (a rarity here!) a nod. " Allysen means nothing by it. Just friendly banter. So, what brings a person like you here? Business? Exploration?" He waves a hand trying to motion for a mead to be brought over.

Shadow Lodge

Orochi bows to the man and sits down.

"Thank you. Exploration ? Sandpoint is a small town. I dare say I know it well. Things may change though. New children are born, for instance. I come here occasionally to introduce myself to the new ones, and to tell them about my services as a healer.

It's also useful for me to know if the caravans arrive here unmolested. After all, it's my job to keep the surrounding forests clear of ...vermin."

I think it's a tragedy that races don't have progression. For instance, Nagaji should get the ability to swallow Tiny creayures whoole at a high level.

Shirota nods as Orochi speaks. "Vermin? Yes, sadly the roads aren't as safe as they should be. Why, just a moon ago, I intervened on a band of foul bandits up near to Tors. Gave them a fair warning, but sadly they didn't listen." He hangs his head a little before looking to smile. "It's not a fun job, but if it keeps the good people safe, right?"

Liberty's Edge

Don't want to ruin the roleplay but if I could butt in a moment.
My PFS no. for this character is 107199-11

Backstory
Vera was born on a caravan, and lived in one for most of her life. She separated from her parents to travel with friends in another caravan when is was attacked, overwhelmed really be a goblin attack. Vera and her friends fought with little hope, until her pistol glowed and her ammo ran out. One by one her friends fell. Then she was by herself, one bullet left and the goblins closing in.
The the goblins started sprouting arrows and began to fall. Vera fired her last shot at the goblin leader, then buried her pick into his head. And then it was over. The an elf appeared. She introduced herself as Shalelu. Together they buried the rest of the caravan, and burned the goblin bodies.

Since then Shalelu was treated Vera as a student, helping her to learn to survive in the wilds. Vera greatly respects Shalelu, but has always wondered why she has gotten the training. Perhaps she learn in time.

I'm still here with Thribden. Appearance and Personality are up. I've got the basic background done, but I'm going to try to update it before recruitment officially closes.

So I got kind of bored and decided to do my own list of all the applicants so far. I had an idea for a new way to sort people, as I find the traditional categories don't really capture a lot of characters well. So instead of making categories, I'm just going to add tags to builds that qualify for them. That way we'll know more about what a character is actually good at mechanically at a glance. The tags I used are:

Melee - You have at least a +5 to hit (70% chance to hit against a typical CR 1 enemy) with a melee weapon.

Beef - You have 10 or more HP.

Tank - Your AC is at least 17 (will be missed 70% or more of the time by CR1 monsters).

Arcane - You can cast from the sorcerer/wizard spell list.

Divine - You can cast from the cleric or druid spell list.

Skilled (face, knowledge, traps, etc.) - You have 6 or more skill points at first level. A bonus of at least +4 in relevant skills might get a sub tag of face, knowledge or traps.

Hybrid (arcane or divine) - You cast spells from a list other than the primary caster lists, or use formulae.

Ranged - You've got at least a +3 to hit a ranged target that's in melee with one of the party with a ranged weapon.

These are completely arbitrary, and just for me to get a measure of what everyone can do (I'm not in any way saying these are requirements or that your character is bad if they don't have X tag). I'm only sharing them because they might be interesting to others too.

Submissions so Far:
Sarannae Dawnborn - F Elf Eldritch Knight 1; melee, beef, (arcane after 2nd level)
Exiel - M Aasimar (Angel Blooded) Paladin (Divine hunter) 1; beef
Shiori Kaijitsu - F Human Master Spy 1; beef, skilled (traps, partial face)
Darinius - M Human Dragon Disciple 1; beef, (arcane after 2nd level)
Galford Dao - M Tengu Rogue (Swordmaster/Scout) 1; skilled (traps)
Asako Hamada - F Human Magus (Kensai); beef, tank, hybrid (arcane), skilled (arcane knowledge)
Vera Fireshot - F Halfling Gunslinger (Pistolero); beef, tank, ranged (firearm)
Allysen - F Aasimar (Angel-Kin) Barbarian (armored Hulk); beef, tank, skilled (face, survival)
Trip Tumblefoot - M Halfling Pathfinder Chronicler 1; skilled (face, survival, UMD)
Shirota Wakahisa - M Human Ranger 1; beef, skilled (survival, stealth), melee (vs Human only)
Kazumi Yamada - F Kitsune Bard (Arcane Duelist) 1; hybrid (arcane), skilled (face, stealth)
Thribden Malkut Diniya - F Samsaran Cleric of Pharasma 1; divine
Yamato-no-Orochi - M Master of Storms 1; tank, (divine from 2nd level)
Gorou Kaijitsu - M Human Student of War 1; beef, skilled (knowledges), melee (only with successful knowledge check)

So no dedicated arcane casters so far! Also only one dedicated divine submission. Also there is only one character who excels at ranged combat. This should be an interesting party any way it goes.

Someone submitting a human hunter with point blank shot and precise shot and a decent wisdom would fill a void nicely.

@minigm: In Thribden's background, I put her as being reincarnated the way James Jacobsen described it (I will try to find that thread again and link it for you), but I know some people don't like that mechanic. If it's a problem fire you let me know and I'll change it.

Edit: Found it

Sovereign Court

55 posts!!! What have I missed?

Hmm according to DM Jelani's tagging. I would be a Skilled, Tank Beef?
Ok being a Tengu and the way I arranged the tags, I think I may have doomed my char. lol.

With this GM's generous Char generation. No mystic Theruge?

Shadow Lodge

I didn't think fit my original theme of a sea serpent. But if you guys want a Mystic Theurge so much, I'll change my Prc to that. As for the ranged qualification, that doesn't really take ray spells in account-which hit touch AC. And then there's the character with a composite bow as a special item.

I don't think there is any void in the list submitted above.

still got about 24 hours

i will be scarce today so don't think I have disappeared

Interesting analysis.

Darinius should also be skilled(face, knowledge) he has +7 Diplomacy and +5 in a Knowledge and Spellcraft.

Also it doesn't really fit a tag, but he threatens out to ten feet and has Combat Reflexes. I'm not sure what that falls under. I guess he could tank barbarian style since he is going to have a huge amount of hp from d12 hit dice.

I only counted skilled if they had more than 6 skill points. I realized later it would have made more sense to do it your way, but didn’t to go back and recheck everything. Also nearly everyone has at least one skill at +4 so it would kinda pointless since everyone would be “skilled”.

Lantern Lodge

Thanks for the list, DM Jelani. But I'm not sure how I missed being a 'face' when I have the highest diplomacy mod of all the candidates. =(

Also I appear to have missed being a 'tank' or a 'melee' by 1 point of attack bonus and AC. Does that make me a 'partial' melee and ''partial' tank (or 'melee when smiting' and 'tank when smiting')?

And if we're taking into account what happens after level 1, I should probably be listed as "arcane after level 3".

Lots of people have 16 ACs and +4s to hit. That just means 65% of the time you’ll hit on average and you’ll be missed 65% of the time insted if 70%. Like I said, it’s arbitrary. Don’t take it too seriously.

I just wanted a way to look at characters other than melee, ranged, divine, arcane, and skill monkey that people usually sort characters into.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Heh Heh Exiel is the Iron Face.
Takes and dishes out damage. Want an extra smile with that? Sure. *Smash*.

Allysen's cheeks flush as she looks away from Yamato.

Not your finest moment there Al...

"Anyway, Other than the occasional goblin picking through the junk pile at Junker's Edge, there's not much going on."

Shiori of course has other useful skills beyond partial face and traps :)

Most of them revolve around deception or deceit however. She can create forgeries (though she lacks the materials to actually do so), infiltrate an enemy base (via disguise), pass or retrieve secret messages (bluff/sense motive).

She would also qualify for your melee role while flanking, which is when she does the most damage anyway, and at 3rd level she would be knowledgeable while disguised as someone knowledgeable, this will be accomplished by her class ability, coupled with the fact that I intend to get Improvisation at 3rd level.

Superficial Knowledge (Ex):
A master spy gives the appearance of knowing more than she actually does. Starting at 3rd level, she can make untrained Knowledge and Profession checks pertaining to her cover or assumed identity as if she were trained and gains a bonus equal to half her level on these checks. For example, a master spy masquerading as a noblewoman can make untrained Knowledge (history) checks about the kingdom and Knowledge (nobility) checks about its noble and royal families as if she were trained, but she cannot make untrained Knowledge (nature) skill checks to identify herbs.
So at 3rd level that would make her knowledge +5 while disguised as someone who would know more then she would, or just +4 while not disguised. I considered grabbing Improvisation at first level, but then I wouldn't be able to hit anything. If I had gotten Improvisation, I would have had +3-+4 in many more skills at first level.

I don't think Exiel is the only one that qualify for that. I'm planning on building Allysen as a sledge hammer as she levels. Takes it, dishes it out, and God help you if you happen to make her mad.

Of course, I don't think that I've ever seen another Barbarian with a better + to Diplomacy than to Intimidate.

Sovereign Court

Ok Allysen. You're the Iron Skull. :P

Don't hit me. *Whimpers*

Hmmm. Allysen Ironskull...

Perfect! I now have a name for my next dwarf character/NPC.

Not a single harrower or veiled illusionist :(

Shadow Lodge

Well, I'd rather use animal entrails or the direction birds fly for my fortunetelling ;)

Harrower was an option, but harrow cards don't emulate well in pbp, I mean you need to draw 9 unique cards to do a harrowing, that's 1d10 and 1d6 9 times, without any repeats, if there are any repeats you have to keep rolling, unless the you as the GM come up with a specific set of cards for foreshadowing purposes.

It also wouldn't make sense as Ameiko's sibling, though Sandru's sibling or someone with a crush on Sandru could work with a harrower.

The other issue is most of what I play is spellcasters, and I like to try something different every once in awhile, I mean in PFS I have a dead witch, an Oracle, a sorcerer, a gunna be Eldritch Knight, and a swashbuckler.

Of course a Mystery Cultist of Irez could have been a nice fortuneteller too.
