Daria/Whirlwind continues to slide through and among the troops, spending 40 feet of movement just generating cyclone havoc, touching down in multiple places towards the back of the troop. Where she touches down, boards of the pier, spraying water, and debris fly about, making visibility difficult and potentially disrupting the troop's coordination.

(If the whirlwind’s base touches the ground, it creates a swirling cloud of debris. This cloud is centered on the creature and has a diameter equal to half the whirlwind’s height. The cloud obscures all vision, including darkvision, beyond 5 feet. Creatures 5 feet away have concealment, while those farther away have total concealment. Those caught in the cloud of debris must succeed on a concentration check (DC 15 + spell level) to cast a spell.)

With her last 20 feet of movement, Daria rises above the troop (and out of their reach) to cast a spell, crackling words of divine power ripping through the whirlwind and resulting in a lightning strike straight down at the hapless legion forces!

@GM No that's alright, I suppose it doesn't really change the current strategy. @Lily I think keeping them pinned here on the wharf is probably our best bet; Thorek is keeping some tricks in reserve so his plan here is just to trade blows. You could Vanish Thorek before the troop acts to minimize the damage they do if you like, but otherwise don't sweat it.

Though the Ironfang troops made three blows for every one of his own, Thorek's were far more telling as he settles into a devastating rhythm of swing and counter-swing.

Attack #1: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (18) + 21 = 39 Damage: 1d10 + 20 ⇒ (8) + 20 = 28

Daria's spells and Thorek's swings are finally enough to break the morale of the Hobgoblin troops at the riverfront. The enemy soldiers remaining on the pier make a disorganized retreat back to their boats.

Completing this encounter also requires taking a full-round action to make a Diplomacy, Intimidate, Perform (Oratory), or Profession (Soldier) check to keep the dockside defenders organized. I'll just roll that for expediency.

We'll say you can use a Swift Action to call upon Gaius' help in the form of any Arcanist spell of 4th level or lower - this means that Cone of Cold is beyond his power, but he could cast Ice Storm for you. Lily's arrow does some damage to the elemental before burning away. Meanwhile, Esperanza slides around the building abutting the battleground and moves to pincer the elemental between herself and Thorek.

Dice Rolls:

Elemental slam vs Esperanza: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (1) + 19 = 20
Esperanza parry vs Elemental: 1d20 + 18 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 18 + 2 = 22
Esperanza riposte vs Elemental: 1d20 + 18 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 18 + 2 = 40
Esperanza confirm crit?: 1d20 + 18 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 18 + 2 = 27
Damage with Crit: 3d10 + 21 ⇒ (6, 1, 8) + 21 = 36

Battle Turn 15. Defense Points: 164

The elemental swings at Esperanza, but she manages to parry his burning arm then deliver an especially devastating attack with a spinning flourish.

The second elemental rushes from around the burning tavern to join the fray.

Esperanza manages to get a crit parry and riposte on one of the elementals.
You guys are up again.

I took the liberty of moving Esperanza's token around to flank the elemental.

Inspired by his comrade's deadly grace, Thorek slams his dorn-dergar into the fire-spirit with less grace but no less brutal efficiency.

Did the water help Daria summoned put out any of the flames? Does Gaius know the 4th level spell Dragon’s Breath? Or perhaps Charm Monster?

Sorry about the delay my dad had to go to the hospital and is getting open heart surgery today. I've been really distracted these past few days.

Lily unleashes another arrow to the enemy as she cautiously moves up.

Lily and Thorek both deal considerable damage to the elemental, which appears to be losing cohesion of its flaming body.

Daria's downpour of water contains the spread of the flames among the buildings to the south. While one small home has already been engulfed, her magic has protected the two nearby buildings from catching fire.

I've changed the color of the fire marker to the south from orange to yellow to represent that it is now contained. Daria's summoned water put out the flames that were about to spread to the two buildings next to her and Lily. Mechanically, we'll treat this as stopping the turn's loss of Defense Points.

We'll also say that Gaius does have access to Dragon's Breath or Charm Monster.

”Alright Flopsy, Now!” calls Daria as she summons more water over the flames, now focusing on the ones to her east. She sets up a fine mist that sizzles as it contacts the closest Fire elemental, but does no damage until…

In swoops Gaius from the southeast, grasping a small scaly object of some kind. From his outstretched hand, a cone of billowing clouds and freezing cold rolls out over burning building and fire elemental alike, accompanied by a Draconic roar!

(Dragon’s Breath, Silver does 1d6 cold per caster level in a 30 foot cone).
