Human Gunslinger (Pistolero)/2

Hello! Good to be playing with you all!

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

Just got off work, will be posting soon. Quick question: anyone interested in a bodyguard? I'm looking for a good way to endear myself to the party and that seems like the best option. Don't worry about "paying" or anything, I'll just say that's where the extra 100 gp came from.

Human Gunslinger (Pistolero)/2

Unfortunately, the only bodyguard Sam wants or needs is strapped to her hip. Though, if you happened to offer your services in a card game, Sam would have gladly taken that marker.

That would be acceptable, though if it could have already happened in the realm of backstory that would be nice. It seems like a stretch to go from betting copper pieces to betting servitude. Although if you'd rather do it

here on the train, that's also fine.

Male Half-Elf Fighter(Tactician)

Most Cyean would be looking for is a squire, not really a bodyguard.

Human Gunslinger (Pistolero)/2

Backstory would be better in that regard. Probably in the game where she won her train ticket, so a quite recent development. Though less servitude and more like a month's contract.

Great, thanks. I really appreciate it, you're helping me out quite a bit. I'm going to start writing my backstory now, I'll include a small section at the end. Would a years contract be acceptable as well? I want to make sure that I have a good portion of the game covered.

Human Gunslinger (Pistolero)/2

That's fine by me. Though please note that Sam takes effort in obfuscating their gender, so it's not immediately obvious in their usual attire. Though that's purely from a roleplaying perspective (No ranks in Disguise) so it's up to you if Oswin's noticed yet.

Oswin has +1 sense motive and another +5 in perception, but I don't see any reason as to why he would suspect you of crossdressing. As such I see no reason to roll something that my character wouldn't even suspect (also you could probably just bluff your way out of it "I'm very effeminate").

Hopefully Kisako posts soon.

Alright backstory finally done and up! That took entirely too long but I'm satisfied with the way it came out.

Yep, I'm here, I've just been out all day, doing interesting socialization things :D Interested to see where this goes, and I'm excited for this opportunity.

Kisako would be more interested in a guide and interpreter than a bodyguard. He, like most DnD PCs, can take care of himself.

I hope I portray the foreigner thing well enough :D I'll dot gameplay in a moment.

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

Any idea how fast we will progress level-wise/what the max level is?

Oswin - I was just reading through your fluff and I thought of something - try arm-wrestling Sam. I bet that she can't beat you at THAT.

Also, someone's gonna need to collect Kisako if no one wants him to get lost. He's like a fish out of water. He has no idea what he's doing.

I'm looking forward to seeing how the GM keeps us together.

Human Gunslinger (Pistolero)/2

Sam could always invite Kisako to play a friendly game. And then get him indentured to her as well. They'll become Jakobs' Posse!

And yeah, Sam would definitely lose at arm wrestling. Which is why you'll never see her play such a game. Considering her size, she'd even call out the complete unfairness of it. At least with cards and dice and board games everyone has an equal chance to win.

But then again, Sam is a remorseless cheater as well as a professional gambler. And if she bets her revolver, she's got a 100% chance of winning.

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

I figure my best shot is to buy my own dice and then challenge her at that, but I'm gonna take a while to consider my options before I do anything. If Oswin still manages to rake in the cash, there's no real point in trying to win back the contract.

Male Half-Elf Fighter(Tactician)

Just noticed I messed up with my post, meant you really like those games to Jakobs.

Hey Sam, I'm wondering if you're okay with something.

I'm assuming that Sam's going to cheat on any game with a wager in order to win. I want Kisako to play for a wager (even though he would NEVER bet his sword and he only has a few gold pieces), but I don't want him to lose out on all of his money or go into indentured servitude with Sam (although he would so be the perfect servant). I'm wondering if, because Kisako's entire divine portfolio is about honesty and honor and austerity, whether he could so subtly effect the game such that your cheatyface ways are foiled and the cards are dealt as normal as opposed to how you'd like it. Like, you'd deal the cards, look at your hand, and think something like 'What the hell? this isn't the hand I wanted to deal myself! This is actually random!'. This wouldn't be any conscious effort of Kisako, he would have no clue it was happening. His aura just influences the world around him like that.

Is that okay? Just from an interesting RP perspective? Especially since Kisako would be gracious enough, assuming he won, to just give back all of the money that he won from you to you.

Human Gunslinger (Pistolero)/2

Well, here's the thing. Sam is actually going to let him win all the games. Though it's just for chump change, a few copper and silver pieces, she's actively building up his confidence in beginner's luck so she can later reel him in with a huge bet. That's pretty much her plan here. So except for the very final game, she's going to keep on losing.

So, in that respect, your plan wouldn't make sense unless he lost every game, since currently she's cheating it for him to win.

Ah, excuse me, I had to catch up on some much-needed sleep. It's been a rough week. Anyhow, I do see this going from 1 to 20. There is plenty to be done in this campaign world and I've set the bar kind of high. This may even delve into Mythic ranks if the situation calls for it.

Edit: I'll probably stick with the fast track for experience in this game.

Are we using XP progression or arbitrary level gains?

XP progression.

Ohh okay. Hmm. I'll just play along, then :)

It should be noted that I work at night and all I have is my phone, so I'll post in the morning.

By the way, Oswin, G6 is a wall, I think you mean G5.

And no, Sam's never had a bodyguard before. Mostly because Sam doesn't usual get close enough for melee.

Also wondering if Sam used up all of her actions moving and opening the door or if she can take a shot on the goblin right in front of her.

You may take a shot at the goblin, Sam.

Yeah, sorry. You're right, I meant G5. Also don't mind my in-character small talk during combats, just trying to get a feel for Oswins personality.

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

Kisako, you can move to H4 (25 foot movement) but it will provoke an AoO from G4

No it won't. Moving into the threatened space of a creature doesn't provoke. Only moving while you're already in the threatened space.

Erp sorry, disregard that portion then.

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

Kisako is in H4 right? Meaning that he is the only one within reach of the bundle (I assume I'm not unless some shifting happens). Do the doors between the trains open up into the air? We could just try and pick it up and chuck it as far away as possible (that being my Barbarian fire=bad solution).

The gap between cars isn't that large. Just enough to fit a train hitch really. You'd have to squeeze the bundle through. Or you can play hot potato and toss it out the back.

Human Gunslinger (Pistolero)/2

So, since the spacing isn't big enough for the bundle to fit through the hitch gap without squeezing, can we say that the defused bundled ended up in H4 instead of disappearing like that?

Sure, or you can stash it in an overhead compartment, whichever makes it easier for you. There is always the authorities to consider and proof that goblin-made bombs were used will "defuse" any confusion significantly :P

Red outlined box is where the explosive are left.

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

What are we looking at XP wise for the goblins?

Human Gunslinger (Pistolero)/2

Experience is good to know and all, but I'm more interested in what loot we've gained.

Also important, yes. Nice one-line finisher by the way.

And regarding experience, you did say fast track, right? That means we hit level 2 at what...1300 experience?

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

Yeah, I think it's something like 7-10 goblins per person.

Human Gunslinger (Pistolero)/2

Goblins are CR 1/3 each - we're a party of 4, so that's 35xp each per goblin. Depending on if the last one was a PC class or not, we're probably looking at between 200-300xp each for this encounter. Which is fair.

240 xp

4d10 ⇒ (8, 10, 3, 7) = 28

Loot: a battered blunderbuss worth 28 gold, 7 leather armors (sized small), 6 light wooden shields (sm), 6 short swords (sm) and 27 gold pieces.

Male Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

Was there anything special about the white clothes on their arms?

Nope, they were just like an insignia.

Human Gunslinger (Pistolero)/2

What about the goggles? Can Sam have the goggles? Also: There's no black powder or pellets to go along with the blunderbuss? I'm guessing that it counts as 'broken' for anyone right now, so it's pretty much worthless except to sell off.

So, that comes to 70gp of leather armor, 18gp of shields, 60gp of short swords, 28gp blunderbuss and 27gp. So that's 176gp of loot to sell at half price, netting 88gp, plus 27gp, with a total gain of 115gp.

Splitting that 4 ways, we've got 28gp, 7sp, and 5cp per party member. Hooray for math!

There's about a shot's worth of black powder in the powder horn the goblin had. No pellets. If you want the goggles, nothing's stopping you from taking them.
