The Gathering Storm (4e)

Game Master Rev Rosey

I liked this one, but we lost half the players to real life at a time when I was heroically busy. It counts as an honourable failure on the roster - and the only game I've ever deliberately put on hiatus.

Male Elf Ranger

On my turn if needed, attack the wraith with twin strike.

1st arrow, attack vs ac, 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23, damage = 1d12 + 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (5) + (7) + 6 = 18
2nd arrow, attack vs ac, 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22, damage = 1d12 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15

Male Tiefling Wizard 5

Grasping Shadows centered at O6 against W(vs Will, Psychic damage and is slowed until EOMNT, creates a zone in area until EOMNT)" 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 261d8 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

Male Human Cleric 6

so, rev, for the record, kith did not get a healing word and i still have two.

Shadows wrap around the remnants of the wraith, pulling it into the stony ground. Now only the crackle of the dying cookfire and the merry splash of the fountain can be heard.

OUT OF COMBAT.
Take an AP each (milestone)
433Xp, bringing you to a total of 6,483XP each.

M Half-Orc Two-Weapon Ranger 6

Wow, only took one hit that fight. One surge to full, 6 surges remaining.

Male Tiefling Wizard 5

Me too. Of course it took out 1.5 surges worth of health, so it's only a small victory. So, Andrus, mind if I use one of your spare Healing Words to get back to full? No need to roll, 1d6+4 extra HP is guaranteed to get me to full health.

Healing surge used just shy of full health so no biggie

Male Human Cleric 6

so I used my healing word on Zareth instead. I rolled a 4 on 1d6, so it is surge +8 for the record. I'll use the other one on myself for surge+1d6+4 or surge +10 so I'm back up to full as well. is anyone low on surges? I can't really do anything about it, but it'll serve as a gauge to see how much further before we need to rest. I'm at 6/8, so I can go another encounter or two.

You all sound good to keep going a while longer. What are you doing now?

9/12 on surges

Male Human Cleric 6

Andrus searchs the area for hidden/secret doors or tunnels. "It seems like a dead end to me, but looks can be deceiving." He starts rapping on the walls.

Perception= d20+11 = 29

Where are you looking, exactly Andrus? That's a lot of walls to tap.

Male Human Cleric 6

along the far wall. (north, top of picture, etc) just where he would expect a false wall or secret door.

female Dwarf Runepriest 6

Kith, as she tends to, searches the bodies of the fallen.

Another Ap? First fight, then the diplomacy, for 2, then this fight. Shouldn't be at 2 AP and not 3?

HP: 43/48
Surges: 4/10
AP: 2/2
Mending: 2/2
Enc. Used:
Daily Used: Shield of Sacrifice, Rune of Endless Fire,
Runestate: Protection, Allies adjacent to me gain DR/2
Status:

Male Human Cleric 6

Kith is right. As much as I would enjoy the extra Action Point, we haven't earned it yet. You gave us one after the mushroom encounter.

Male Elf Ranger

Kel will help Andrus look around.

perception = 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19

Strike the AP :) Forgot I'd given you one after the myconid encounter.

Kith finds the usual tat on the bodies of the kenku, and the north wall reveals no secrets to Andrus and Kel.

Male Human Cleric 6

Andrus then turns to the eastern wall and floor and searchs there.

Perception= d20+11= 24

On the wall behind the fountain, Andrus finds what he was looking for. Stonework masks a secret door.

Male Human Cleric 6

"Here we go." Andrus says as he traces the outline of the hidden door. "I knew there was more to this place than just a couple of rooms. Let's check it out."

can I find a way to open the door or do we need a thievery check?

Thievery DC20 to open it. If that fails, Athletics to bash it open.

"If you'd like, I could give that there door a go with my dwarven lock pick," hefting his warhammer.

Male Elf Ranger

"Wait til Urlag and I try a more delicate approch first."

thievery = 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21

M Half-Orc Two-Weapon Ranger 6

Aid apparently not needed.

With a gentle clonk, the secret door responds to Kel's ministrations and the group look into a corridor. Somewhat perturbingly, lightning arcs along the first section.

MAP

Orange hatched areas represent the lightning.

"Any suggestions on the lightning? I do not feel like having to comb out this mess of a beard today after getting fried."

female Dwarf Runepriest 6

Kith seems unimpressed with the lightning. "I can walk to the other side and see if I can find a way to turn it off, or just to open the door."

Door at the far end, right? What's the brown box like object in F12? Can we tell?

The small brown thing is where all the lightning originates.
Note that the whole corridor is difficult terrain. DC22 Perception and DC18 Arcana will help you here.

Male Elf Ranger

Look to see if there is a way to turn off the lightning.

Perception = 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15

If there is a way to turn it off.

Thievery = 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19

Kel's usually acute senses let him down a bit.

Male Human Cleric 6

"Wait, Kitherra. Let me see if we can figure this out first." Andrus examines the area for signs of devices or arcana. perception=d20+11=30

female Dwarf Runepriest 6

Kith ponders smashing the brown thing, but waits a moment.

Arcana: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4 and Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20

Male Tiefling Wizard 5

"Could be dangerous. Xod, what do you think?" A small imp fades in on Zareth's shoulder and whispers into his ear. "Hmm. Really? Alright."

Arcana: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (2) + 13 = 15

"Wait, what? Are you trying to get me killed?"

The heroes are unable to piece together any new information.

Before you launch into a flurry of lightning based activity, are you just leaving the mausoleum alone for now?

True we didnt look at it at all.

Male Human Cleric 6

"Wait a sec....." Andrus tells his friends. He starts to examine the graves. "Who were these people?" He brushes some dust off one of the graves. "And what's with that dragon?"

I want to check the coffins more closely and open them if I can to see if there is any treasure inside or identify the remains

Two of the coffins are open, empty and have never been used, but two are closed. Brushing aside the mess of feathers and dust, Andrus sees names on the caskets: The Emerald Warlock and Illugi Swordbreaker. He recalls that the second of these at least was one of the founders of the Stormcrows.

DC15 Athletics to open either coffin.

Athletics 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22

Tenja smiles seeing a job that he can help with. "Do not worry Andrus, I will help you with the heavy lifting."

Within the first coffin, Tenja sees a humanoid figure, carefully wrapped and embalmed. At its side lies a slender dagger and a pair of iron armbands.

M Half-Orc Two-Weapon Ranger 6

"Ah, pretty things . . ." Urlag smiles, but does not reach for the objects, instead peering about for anything amiss (relatively speaking).

Perception 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19

female Dwarf Runepriest 6

Kith is keeping an eye on lightning hall, and she keeps studying the device that makes the lightning, looking for weakspots.

Perception:1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16

Urlag sees nothing suspicious about either the dagger or the armbands. Kith tries in vain to work out how to disable the lightning corridor.

Looks like all the melee guys put the iron armbands on their wish list. I think Urlag would get the biggest bang from them right now, since he attacks twice alot.

They did and they seem very useful. Up to you who gets them.

M Half-Orc Two-Weapon Ranger 6

I certainly wouldn't mind. They do go nicely with Twin Strike.

Male Human Cleric 6

Up to Kith, I am primarily ranged, like Kel. Are we sure that's what these armbands are, though? Why would a warlock need iron armbands of power? Warlocks are ranged, mostly. Anyhoo, if that is what these armbands are, and Tenja is cool with Urlag getting them, Kith is the only other one who would benefit from them. I want to check the dagger. And someone strong needs to open the other coffin for me.

"Kith, we found a couple of the Stormcrows. Or what's left of them, at least. "The Emerald Warlock" and "Illugi Swordbreaker". Illugi was one of the founders of the Crows. They have some treasure, you wanna see?" Andrus calls to Kitherra from the museleum.

Rev, is there any way to tell how they died? Heal skill check=d20+11=27

Andrus picks up the dagger and examines it. arcana check=d20+8=20

female Dwarf Runepriest 6

I'd agree with giving them to Urlag, for the exact reasons Tenja gave.

+1

You opened Illugi's coffin, not the Emerald Warlock's - apologies for not making that clear.

Andrus recognises that Illugi seems to have died from a combination of murderous blasts of eldritch power and severe burns.

The dagger seems to nestle in his hand as though it felt at home there. It is a luckbringer dagger, and the weapon glows slightly at the cleric's touch, sensing his affinity to Avandra.

+2 luckblade dagger.

Tenja cracks his knuckles and pushes at the next coffin lid. 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26 Athletics
