The yellowish-green ammunition strikes its target dead-on. With a mere several more hours worth of fiery effort and elbow grease, Lanliss may just burn halfway through one of these two mystery bars.
As a reminder, energy damage such as acid and electricity deal half damage to objects, though some objects may take full, or less damage at GM discretion. Like fire on cloth. Also, these bars go across the ceiling. You could simply walk past them. Then again, the last two hallways were trapped.

I've returned but only partially, will try to post after Smasho hands me some sweet info with this natural 20, check'em!
Kn Engineering: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
... I am unsure if I hate myself or the RNG or both.

![]() |

The paladin rests his weight on the left wall as he inspects the suspicious bars. "Mmmh... those appear to be detached from the ceiling, some manner of trap. Whatever is holding them stops the bars from slamming our heads... look for a tripping wire or pressure trigger." he says before kneeling and tapping the floor in front of him with the shaft of his scythe.
Tapping after perception, if I see the trigger I'll wait before triggering it with my precious weapon.
Perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (7) - 1 = 6

Lanliss Seldlon |

aw s++&. I misunderstood!
I actually hit something this time. I mean, it didn't do anything, but baby steps, right?

Seraphina Firedancer |

Serephina dropped her eyes to floor, looking for whatever would trigger the trap.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

Lanliss Seldlon |

Lanliss tries to do the same thing as Azrael, tapping the ground with the butt of his rifle.

T: 2d20 + 4 ⇒ (14, 15) + 4 = 33
H: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (3, 5) + 2 = 10
As Azrael advances and Lanliss probes the floor for triggers to the log trap, a snap is heard.
The bars creak and shriek as they come crashing down over Lanliss and Azrael! After they land on the floor with an uneven thud, it becomes clear these beams are only the bottom to a makeshift set of portcullises-Really? The plural is portcullises? That feels weird. Also after they land, two large axes fall from the ceilings in the rooms beside the party, one from each side headed straight for center mass to each of the brave party members caught. Behind the ax heads drop two small mechanical balls that whir to life in the rooms themselves.
Azrael, you take 7 damage, Lanliss takes 5. Calling for a DC 13 reflex save from both Azrael and Lanliss. If you succeed, choose whether to move forward into the space between the doorways, or back behind the improvised portcullis. If you fail, you are forced forward. Roll initiative everybody.

Lanliss is thrown forward into the space. He picks himself up and dusts himself off. Oh come on! It feels like I was so close! Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22

Seraphina Firedancer |

"Whoops," Serephina said with a wince. "Do you guys need a hand?"
Initative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10

GM Smashomancer |

The axes momentum helps swing them back into the ceiling with the quiet sound of a latch closing. The metal balls begin to take a more spider-like shape, as multiple legs sprout from the bottom. One of the mechanical menaces stands in each room beside the trapped Lanliss.
Know: Engineering to ID the bots. Lanliss, would you happen to remember what happened to that wand you threw at the last robot you fought?

They are not immune to critical hits. They are robots, not constructs. You can get two more details if you'd like.
I'm so sorry. Remember the makeshift portcullis I mentioned? And how you stepped back from it? I'll let you decide if you want that crit to hit the barrier in an attempt to smash it, or take a different action.

![]() |

Mental picture wasn't clear, now it is. So f!!+ that barrier, I attack it. I'm coming through sooner or later. Also details regarding the spiders: resistances and wether they are "autonomous" (following a set of orders, yet to their judgrment how to carry them, for example) or they have a control unit that we can smash or hack.

GM Smashomancer |

The spiderbots are autonomous, built to be able to follow mildly complex orders such as identifying ores found in their usual habitats,
or searching depths and bringing readings of the air back. These ones instead, seem to have been programmed to guard this immediate area.
In mechanical speak, Int 5.
"Off with their metaphorical heads" declares Azrael, as he cleaves straight through two of the crude, yet durable iron bars that the barrier is composed of. It looks like people can fit through one at a time fairly easily.

Lanliss Seldlon |

Lanliss, would you happen to remember what happened to that wand you threw at the last robot you fought?
Do you mean the faulty one that I mage handed to the Cookie bot? Looking through my posts, I'm pretty sure I just left it there.
Lanliss looks at both of the robots. His eyes widen, and he tries to look for an opening in the portcullis. Confident that his friends will help him get out, he prepares to book it as soon as a gap is made.Delay Action, to the count right after Azrael (13)

Abel The Wanderer |

little confused on positioning here, are these things right in front of us or on a lower floor or something? Standard action to activate advice [sensei's version of bardic performance] to inspire courage +1 atk, damage.
Keep calm, we will suceed. Better to do a job right the first time.

GM Smashomancer |

"One of the mechanical menaces stands in each room beside the trapped Lanliss." They are functionally diagonal from you, about 15' away from the folks behind the (now broken and therefore passable)
portcullis. Each one is placed inside one of two rooms across from each other. But you need to go by the same place Lanliss triggered the axes from to reach them for now.

GM Smashomancer |

Azrael, would you like to put the info on the bots into your own words, or simply assume you tell the party?
d: 2d4 ⇒ (2, 4) = 6
Lanliss takes the opportunity to retreat to a better position to the rear as Abel offers words of wisdom.
The first spiderball makes its way out of the doorway in an attempt to chase it's intruder. A snap is heard once more as the axes sail through the air. Unfortunately, the blades aren't positioned low enough to catch the bot falling just shy of its dome as the thing skitters smoothly into view. It's mostly steel on the outside, with some copper visible on the inside of the legs. It looks like this will be a night of subtle noises as a faint *FWIP* is heard and a metal object blurs through the air. The small shrapnel shoots past Azrael and directly into Lanliss' brow. Luckily, the damage seems minor. Lanliss take 1 damage.
Seraphina

Seraphina Firedancer |

Serephina once again cast her spell, enhancing Abel, Gwynn and Azrael's offence to function as +1 Magic Weapons.

GM Smashomancer |

The other bot moves out as the trap again re-arms itself, and takes aim at the closest intruder, Azrael. The metal debris ricochets off the warriors shin armor.

Ey, I hit... or not. Nice roll anyway

GM Smashomancer |

You would need to make a Disable Device check to turn off the trap, as well as being closer to it. If you mean the portcullis, you'll need a strength check to lift bro. Another option would be the squeezing rules, you can push by azrael to get inside the zone with the tiny bots and trap by squeezing through the hole the paladin made. Or you can karate chop the metal bars to try to smash more of the obstacle.

Abel The Wanderer |

as much as i love the idea of karate chopping the metal bars in half i don't think abel could do it. a strength check however could work
if possible i would appreciate some assistance, if this portcullis can be moved then we can get over and assist. Abel moves to attempt to lift.

Lanliss Seldlon |

Lanliss wipes away the blood from his brow. He then makes an obscene gesture at the robot. Then, he uses his wand to cast Mage Armor on Azrael.

Oops. Crap. I'll change it to myself, I guess.

Gwynn just about manages to avoid killing Azrael.
To keep things clear, Azrael is now the only party member between the gates.
Abel finds that travel doesn't train arms well, and struggles to lift the dense portcullis.
The first spiderbot redirects its attention to the man who nearly smashed it, its sideways scrambling causes a high-pitched scraping on the floor as the mechanical nuisance backs into the doorway it came from. The noise hides the soft *Fwip* of the things attack. 5-ft. step back into the room before it *Fwip*s again. Azrael takes 2 damage from the attack.
