Throw the Drazan at it!
Thanks for the playtest offer, but I can barely keep up with my regular games as it is!

Imix |

Started posting, but I am not sure how many actions to free the Ulat-Kini. Happy to cut the ties.
If you need to press on, assume it is 3 actions and this is the declared action.
If there's a spare he'll lash out at the swarm again.

GM Belicose Poultry |

And we're back?
Looks like I spoke a little too soon the last time the boards were up.
Assuming things are fixed, I'm going to give everyone to Monday to post and get caught up (think it is Drazan and Imix that need to post in this combat round still). Then we'll move on.
If the boards break again, we'll delay action...

Istiel |

Is it safe now?
We could bring play-by-post back to its roots and mail you letters that have our actions on them!

GM Belicose Poultry |

Oooh, I like it! It would move quicker than the boards these last couple of weeks at least!
I think we're safe. I got a PM from Drazan last week about having trouble getting on the forums. I'm hoping he'll chime in with a post here today, but if not I'll bot and move on tomorrow.
Pretty sure I've seen everyone else in various threads, so I'm not so worried about the rest of y'all ;)

Drazan of Peklenc |

Huzzah the boards are up! Happy day! Barring another issue, I'll be catching up later today. If for the sake of expediency you need to move on, Drazan whirls around using the special vortex ability dealing damage with his slam in the immediate area.

Istiel |

LOL
I just laughed so hard at the description of the captive swimming away.... Thank you BP, I needed that.

Slam damage is 1d8+7. Flame dmg 1d4. I wildly miscalculated the time I'd have to catch up over the holiday. I've scheduled time tonight to catch up on a majority of what I'm behind on here tonight after I've dealt with all my wonderful commitments

GM Belicose Poultry |

Heh. That post getting eaten largely sucked because I had a pretty expansive bit of combat narration written out, but the swimming away part turned out much better on the rewrite. I'm glad it gave a chuckle. That was the intent!

Because I'm sure you were all emotionally invested, I figured out how to edit my profile on my phone! I just had to turn it to landscape mode and the edit button popped back into existance. Apparently this is a well known bug on phone browsers on the forums.

Imix |

posted this and then realised I should'e boosted con on everyone. Ah well, let's see where we are next turn.

Imix |

Hmm... Imix's next action was going to be the enhancement, if that would make any difference. If not hopefully it helps people cope with the damage.

Imix |

I vote chase the Ulat-Kini; but OOC I pretty much figure it got away. I suspect we'll chase it, realise it has fled, and be pretty much back where we were working out hat to do next.

Drazan of Peklenc |

Sudden thoughts on how hard it must be to track creatures underwater...

GM Belicose Poultry |

Re: Tracking underwater, there's no rule that I could find, but I'd imagine the DC is astronomical, well beyond even what your PCs are capable of. IIRC, in 3.5 tracking underwater was like a +30 to the DC, and only done by epic characters.
Considering that the Ulat-Kini has a swim speed, and y'all would have to move at half speed to track and beat a crazy DC, I think it is easiest to rule the dealbreaker has gotten away.
Re: Talking, I've not been able to find a hard-and-fast rule here either. Thinking about things some more, and given the slow pace of PBP games, I'm not inclined to bog things down with speed bumps to talk things out. Since you can water breathe, you can talk underwater.

Istiel |

How is everyone on abilities and spell points and such? Istiel still has plenty of juice left, once we get above water and she can guzzle some cure serious wounds potions and a lesser restoration potion.
Looking at the map, I say we return to the Flight in the currently occupied Farms area, drop off Mparu so she can get on with her life, and leave the tribute we collected in our stash.
Then we should go check out the Manor. They said there was some kind of large lizard there, which I kind of hope is a big ol dragon to kill (think of the glory!) or maybe we can talk to it and just have a nice chat.
Regardless we still have plenty of daylight and resources unless everyone else is pooped, so I think we should keep exploring and gathering tribute.
---------------------------------
Currently collected Tribute:
148 elegant gold discs
1 unidentified potion
1 coral kuriki
32 silver badges with inlaid astronomy figures
1 decorated gold and mithral spyglass
We don't know if any of this stuff is magical, so if Imix or Oios could look it over that would be great. We can, of course, keep what we want or give away some of it as gifts.
Latha is our greatest advocate here so far; she might appreciate the coral kuriki even if it's not magical. The Senate doesn't sound very friendly towards us, and our actions just proved we're absolute killing machines, so they're probably going to be even MORE wary of us. Having Latha firmly on our side would be a huge boon.

Imix |

Not sure if the great-bow thing makes sense.
I figure our culture is pretty big on levels of bowing, so there should be a level that is a big bow with eyes averted. That's what I was trying to indicate.
:/

Istiel |

If flipping the canoe works, Istiel will attempt to grapple the nymph next round and subdue it, unless it responds to Imix.
If it can't breathe underwater it's about to have a bad time... Isitiel has blind-fight so she can just close her eyes, or worse case scenario she goes blind and we have that potion of cure blindless / Nat is still technically around and has that talent I believe.

GM Belicose Poultry |

I'm inclined to say go for it (rule of cool), but the nymph would get a reflex save. My first thought was to make the DC to stay on the canoe the DC of Istiel's swim check, but the nymph will only fail on a nat 1. Perhaps instead attempt a trip attack? Whatever you roll will be the DC of the reflex save that the nymph needs to stay on the boat.
Regardless of whether she ends up in the water, you'll spoil her summon.

Istiel |

Trip attempt made! It wasn't very good.
As long as the summon is spoiled, that's what really matters.
Also, why didn't we shrink the canoe and take it with us?
...what happens if we shrink it now? I'm going to say Istiel hasn't been paying attention and can't recall the dwarven command word at the moment.

Drazan of Peklenc |

I'm traveling for work through Thursday, so activity here will probably be light.

Istiel |

Good work Imix, I think we made a friend! A friend that threatens us with vengeance, but that's no different than being friends with Istiel!
Manor is next, yep.

Istiel |

What do you need nymph for when Istiel can be your champion?
Seriously though, that's a really cool idea. I say go for it Imix.
Also sorry for the short posts, really, really busy.
BP, if Mparu can cast Lesser Restoration Istiel will take it. Otherwise she'll just deal with the reduced con.

Imix |

I want to pursue it!
Let's turn Istiel into a mini-nymph! EVERYBODY wins!
@Istiel: Imix still has some channels. He could use them before you take the potions?

Istiel |

I want to pursue it!
Let's turn Istiel into a mini-nymph! EVERYBODY wins!
Whoa. That would be pretty sweet. The whole blinding beauty thing probably wouldn't be very effective, though, considering she wears a mask and is fully clothed at all times.
Save the channels, we might need them!

Istiel |

Yup. Balcony please!

GM Belicose Poultry |

Well, this is going to be interesting. We'll be in combat for six rounds. Roll on the confusion table to determine your action. Imix, Drazan, and Istiel are all confused. Everyone is one move away from each other.
Confusion table
01-25 Acts normally
26-50 Does nothing but babble incoherently
51-75 Deals 1d8 points of damage + Str modifier to self with item in hand
76-100 Attacks nearest creature (for this purpose, a familiar counts as part of the subject’s self)
Just in case there was any confusion, the stuff I wrote about the books was just fluff and not related to the effect happening to the PCs now - the effect would take place regardless when you were in the room. I just don't want it to feel like you're being railroaded into an action you wouldn't have taken.
Water breathing has a little less than an hour left, by my count.

Istiel |

Istiel had a dream about the city's past and I forgot that was one of the criteria for tribute. If she were more manipulative she'd tell them and dare them to take her, starting a huge-ass fight.
In reality she probably won't say anything though, to anyone.

Oios |

Ah, as the only sane character in the bunch currently (at all times as far as Oios is concerned) is there anything he can do? He doesn't have the Restore Mind talent so spells won't help. Anything else anyone can think of? Will shouting at them help in anyway?

GM Belicose Poultry |

What Life Sphere talent does Oios have currently? He could maybe cure any that get hurt?
Oh yeah, that reminds me, I meant to respond to the potion/channel thing. Mparu has the following cures left:
2d8 + 3 ⇒ (4, 3) + 3 = 10
2d8 + 3 ⇒ (2, 1) + 3 = 6
2d8 + 3 ⇒ (3, 2) + 3 = 8
2d8 + 3 ⇒ (4, 5) + 3 = 12
2d8 + 3 ⇒ (4, 5) + 3 = 12
Divvy the cures up as needed!

Oios |

The core ones from the staff. Life sphere is pretty generous in giving curative powers but confusion isn't one of them without an extra talent.
Conversely maybe all the characters can claim to be dreamers so we get a free trip to drought curing land?
