The Eye of Eons (Inactive)

Game Master Chyrone

The tradeport city of Kharum is Varisia's center of commerce.
From the shadows events are set in motion which, unless intervened, will mean the end of Kharum and much more.

The port city of Kharum, southeast of Riddleport. Founded by a few merchant families, it has become the booming center or Varisia's commerce.
Its markets are home to merchants from every major city in Varisia, bringing marvels from all around into one central trade port.
The faiths of Varisia each have their own modest church, welcoming the weary faithful.

The inn "The Eager Patron" at the main square is a place of rest and a good meal.

Once again, the annual festival is about to begin. The streets grow even more crowded. People are in great spirits, with games and entertainment aplenty.

But trouble is rising and unless intervened, all this and more will soon come to an end....permanently.

Hello folks.
I've been with an idea in my head and just had to put it into action.
The global plot is there, but it will not be railroaded as much. I will leave the order of things over to the players, though i might put little tweaks according to choices made in effect as it proceeds. So without further ado, here's the setup.

Looking for a party of 4, maybe 5.
-20pt buy
-1 feat
-2 traits, no drawbacks.
-Average class start wealth
-Classes: All except Gunslinger, Ninja, Samurai and Summoner.
-Races: Core, though gnomes aren't native to Varisia.
-Alignment: Preference goes to good and neutrals. LE can be considered, but needs a good reason, evil can be done amusingly without going murder-hobo.
-Level at 1, lvl gain goes after events.
-Hp max on lvl 1. On gain, half +1 or roll.

No 3rd party content.
RP is encouraged, creativity can get you a long way.
I'm looking at a 1 post minimum a day, 2 if you want to pace it up.
No deadline yet for the end of recruitment.

So why are you in the city?

Love your style in the Hidden Vault campaign, think I'll keep an eye on this.

I'm interested. I'll get a character together shortly.

Interested, and will be working on a character :)

Could you share some information about the festival? Is it held in memoration of a historic event, or another kind of local tradition?

Dotting for obvious reasons.

Just a few quick questions:
-Are archetypes allowed?
-Will we be mainly going around Kharum or do we have a multitude of terrains? (relating to my first question about archetypes and for any Rangers)
-You mention 1 Feat in the OP, do we get an extra bonus feat from you?

First idea that comes to mind is a possible Dex Fighter going into Duelist or a Cavalier who's job is guarding merchant caravans.

Dotting for interest.

....Again with the Summoner bias... what did they ever do to you?...

sounds interesting, might like to watch this one..

NOTE: I am joking about the summoner thing, its just that so many DM's say no to the summoner right away, and I really don't fully understand why.

The festival is in honor of the city's founding. Since the city is Varisia's main commercial point, it's worth an annual celebration. Plus a festival attracts more customers :).

-Archetypes allowed. But no archetypes that would be a definite evil thing.

-Yes, aside from Kharum being devided in a few zones/districts, you'll be venturing beyond its walls as well. It will have the outdoors along the way. (Thinking caves and Woods)
-Ok, for the fun of it, your character can choose 1 of the following bonus feats:
*Haggler: When selling weapons or armor in Kharum, get 105% of it selling value if passing Bluff or Diplomacy DC12. 100% Otherwise. You must haggle alone without aid.
*Blend with the crowd: When in a "busy" crowd, you get a +2 to stealth for hiding amongst the masses.
*Native to Varisia: You get a +2 to Kn. Local in Varisian settlements.

I know, but some might have bad experiences, some might see it as giving it a big advantage to the party. I myself play a summoner in a PFS, where it is no problem since it's legit. :)

Dotting. Might go with a fighter or paladin.

I would like to submit Verd for this game. Details in the profile.

No 3rd party? What about a Fey-themed reimagining of the Hunter?

I present to you the Goodfellow (or Feywarden)

There are some tweaks to it, namely that both the class and animal companion have 3/4 BAB instead of full and 1/2 BAB.

I wanted to play a Gnomish Goodfellow, but I'm fine with playing a Ranger instead.

Interested.

@Gadgeteer Smashwidget. I'm fine with a gnome, but keep in mind Varisians don't see a gnome every day. Conversations will keep that into account. (Not harmfully, don't worry.) I'm keeping to the paizo published.

@Verd
That's funny, Erastil mocking
On the point of alignment, i'd like to keep things non-chaotic. Kharum is a city open to all, but such a large city has to maintain order after all.

Increasing the DC from 12 to 13 on the Haggler Feat, seems like a "nicer" number. :)

To give an aim, i'm thinking of setting the deadline on Friday the 18th and starting the evening the next day.

Sczarni

I'm interested in this.

I'm thinking about creating a Lawful Evil Monk, who's either a merchant or hired to protect a merchant. Not 100% sure yet, but I'm going to work this idea out and see if I like the result :)

I love homebrews and this looks interesting. I submit Kienyach for your consideration. He's a character that I've put a lot of time into, fleshing out his personality deeply. He's had a dark past but is a man with honor and a strict code of conduct, but he's in a bad place right now. He would probably be at the fair to be in some of the martial contests, hoping to win some money.

Currently the profile is level 3, which I will downgrade soon, but all of the fluff is spot on. Always love feedback, from anybody.

@ Kienyach, Brawler is archetype of fighter, you'd get another bonus feat from that class. Plus you can choose 1 bonus from my own campaign feats, just a little up. Martial competitions like fencing or archery competitions could very well be a part of a big festival.

Edit:
I've been tinkering with a mapping tool a while back, so along the campaign i intend to use combat maps. :)

Ah, this is brawler from the ACG playtest, not the fighter archetype. If that's ok, I didn't see them on your ban list but it slips some peoples minds since the classes are so new.

Campaign feats, hmm. Well Kien isn't a liar, and his appearance is too striking to stand out in a crowd, so I guess I'll go with Native to Varisia.

Ah, ok. I looked at d20pfsrd and it was mentioned in search as fighter archetype.

So to that point, i'm not against ACG. Though sticking to the normal classes is easier :)

Whenever I gain a new ability I type out the entire description in my character block for easy access. Also the pdf of the guide is available for free download.

They're pretty much monks with bonus feats, easily the simplest class in the whole guide. I'm just been itching to try them out because unarmed DPS has never been very viable until the brawler came along.

Sczarni

My character is linked in the profile. Let me know if there is anything I should change. I like homebrew's alot and excited to get into one.

@ Rai di Estelia
Sounds nice. But with his chaotic part, how would you see him behave in Kharum?
As mentioned, Kharum has law enforcement befitting the size of such a port city.

Just to make things clear for myself and others.

Submissions and interests so far:

Melee:
Kienyach - Half-Elf Brawler
StephNyan - LE Monk?

Ranged:

Skill/Support:
Rai Di Estelia - Human Rogue (Rake)

Arcane:

Divine:
Verd - Cleric of Erastil

I've seen some good (and frustrating) builds for a ranged character, be it either an archer or a thrown weapon specialist.

I'm running enough Sorcerers as it is, so perhaps a Bard or Witch would be a nice change. I'll think about it.

Dotting for interest... Will post later today or tomorrow if I decide to submit a character.

Hecktor I'll throw in a Sorceror later, gonna base her on Elsa from Frozen so expect lotsa ice!

Sczarni

He isn't someone who goes around breaking the rules as he see's fit. More like his work forces him to think around the box. And hanging out with that crowd will influence perspective. He is by no means a killer, but you can't say he is good either. Maybe CN is too strong, and game play will reveal its more N or even CG

"-Classes: All except Gunslinger, Ninja, Samurai and Summoner."

Because the races have to be core I didn't notice the 'all', I didn't notice how many options that gives. DM, how do you feel about the Time Thief? I've been dying to play one of those since I saw they exist.

Sorry, no 3rd party content.

This is just the crunch posted, still thinking about a not so bland background. Story in short; he's a soldier that came to guard caravans going to and from Kharum. He's good at heart, but not so talkative as he was hired as a scout and guard, to him his job/duty comes before the talk.

He's a fighter specialized in archery, perhaps at later levels taking a dip into mounted combat/archery

Rocan and Rai di Estelia, don't forgot you get one of the bonus feats i posted earlier.

Sczarni

Added Native to Varisia

Would add the same trait as Rai, can't see him as being anything else than that.

This made me cringe so hard I think I pulled a muscle.

The Morphling wrote:

Don't worry so much. :) If you behave you have no-thing to worry about, if they didn't have law enforcement the city'd become a mess.

It's not like it's the spanish inquisition......

*nobody expects........ah never mind*

I'd be interested in joining. Will make modifications if needed. If I join, this'd be my first PbP, so I'd like to use this character just to keep things simple if that's okay with the GM and rest of group.

That's no problem with me, we all have to start somewhere.

Great! What modifications do I need to make?

Also, I can post pretty much every day, all day, except Sundays, I've usually got a lot of stuff going on that day, and I will do my best to make sure I get at least one post in.

If I can't on some Sundays, will that be a problem?

No, don't think the others would mind.
Adjustments; you get one of the 3 custom bonus feats, scroll upwards for description. Aside from that, i don't see anything wrong at first glance.

To you all
I know i said Deadline 18th, start the 19th. But it'll be deadline friday 24:00 GMT +1, results saturday evening, start sunday. Otherwise the timespan would be too short :)

Wow, alot of native to varisia. Must be the latest thing.

Excellent! I shall add Native to Varisia. I may need some help with a couple other things along the way, but thank you for the opportunity.

I'm using the other Bolgrim to goof around in another forum. This will be my actual submission for your campaign.

Changes:

Added feat, Native to Varisia.
Added Last Name to Profile.

Note: I picked native to Varisia because I didn't feel the other 2 feats made any sense with my character.

If the deadline is this friday I don't think I'll be able to finish the character by then, if that is the case I'll pull out and say good luck everyone.

I was thrown off by that as well Wolfgang, but he seemed to intend to close recruitment the 18th, then take the saturday to make his choices and sunday evening we could begin play in earnest.

So you have at least a week to post a character, no worries.

Exactly what rocan said.

StephNyan here. I'm still fleshing out the details, but I have finished most of my character's sheet. I'll get to Lyssa's background, et cetera, soon.

I, by the way, chose 'Blend with the crowd'. It seemed like a fun feat to use in a busy city.

Made some more edits.

Added character background.
Changed character skills to reflect background.

That's good to hear! A week should be more than enough to finish my character, thank you for clearing that up for me, so I guess I'll be sticking around gm...if that's okay with you. Hides in a corner.

*No sweat Wolfgang.
*Bolgrim, how do you have +5 to craft?

I'd like to add, please no min-maxing. No stats below 8 before racial modifiers.
A question asked: Can we take leadership later?
-No.

Can't we have just one 7 GM? We could roleplay that stat out? No? Awww shucks....

Guess I'll lower his Wisdom to 13 then, taking his Cha back up to 8.

I've got his background fleshed out, still needing to reword it a bit, will have it up tomorrow.
