Background

Rai was orphaned at a young age. At that time in his youth, his parents mysteriously disappeared. The disappearance was blamed on the violence between two rival houses in Absalom, where he lived. As one can imagine, life became very difficult for the child. He was soon forced to survive by any means. This meant theft, remaining one step ahead of the guards. Rai was bright for a child of his age, and possessed a natural skill and nimbleness.

It was only a matter of time until he was caught, however. But not by the town guard, but a Varisian by the name of Karulo Andevai. Karulo saw the potential in Rai and took him in. Rai grew and in his teenage years, was inducted to the family. Karulo developed Rai as someone who can say anything without losing composure. Rai was used as a messenger, spokesperson, and spy by the Sczarni. Quick to smile, Rai has spent the greater part of his life saying one thing and meaning another. He has learned that words can be a far more potent weapon than any sword. And that a well timed dagger can end a dispute faster than a number of soldiers.

To the Sczarni, Rai is valuable, yet not being Varisian himself means he does not get the same privilege. Something that may be cut off if need be. Rai now understands this, and while he serves his family dutifully, he cannot shake the feeling that he has not found his home yet.

Recent jobs have brought Rai to Kharum. A delivery or goods more or less. He's not sure what the delivered product is, and honestly he doesn't care. Being too nosy gets you in trouble more often than not. Well, in this far off place, maybe he can let his hair down for a bit.
