I want to say "The party trips a trap and blows the entire ship up", but that's not in the script.
You open up the door to the captain's quarters. These finely appointed quarters contain a desk, a chair, a bed, and some chests, all of which have been screwed to the deck. A single lit lamp rests on the deck and illuminates the room completely. There is a door on the other end.
Elwyn Cintras
|
"Maybe they are expecting us, maybe they fled, be ready for anything."
Elwyn will check for traps and then place his ear on the door in an attempt to listen to whatever may be on the other side.

Perception (listen): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12

The party finds nothing further in the room. As they open the door, it lays down to a lower deck.
Lower Deck: Six large ballistae are housed here, screwed to the deck and mounted on rails so they can be pushed through the swinging doors on the side of the hull and fired at nearby ships. There is no ammunition present for these weapons, however, and the deck is empty.
The southwest corner of the room contains an open trap doorthat drops down into further darkness. It is rather dark in here as well.
Over the next three days I shall be traveling and my ability to connect with the internet may be limited.

I think, given AC, HP, etc that it should probably be me and Harboth first (sorry to meta too much) have the healers on standby and Kyle let out your guidance loving on us all.

"Some arcane influence to put the room to sleep might be a great help, especially if there are hostages down there too." Whispers Elwyn.
Kyle Gray

Kyle has the best flat-footed AC and boosted hit points with the toughness feat. He should go down first.
Kyle passes around some guidance on everyone and walks down first. He uses guidance to walk down as quietly as possible. He squints in the darkness using the light from Rhydderch's spear while keeping his shield and scimitar out in front of him.
Stealth: 1d20 - 5 ⇒ (18) - 5 = 13
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13

How about this order?
Kyle < Elwyn < Rhydderch < Marisan < Rachele < Harboth
I put Harboth last to cover the rear just in case. I thought since he's an archer he would still be effective coming down last. Does anyone have any objections?

as long as I can hit anything aggressive with my sleep spell im set
Take out the "with my sleep spell" and maybe the "aggressive" qualifier, and that's how I feel. I'm happy at either the front or the back. Having Elwyn at one end and me at the other gives us a watchful eye and a capable fighter at each end of the column.
Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16

I went with what I read first
As the party decends deeper into the dark ship, with the Rogue leading the way down the stairs, deep shadows are created by the light spells flickering from behind. As he goes down the door in the floor via a provided rope ladder, Ryddeich sees a flash of motion out of his eye, but does so a moment too late to warn his friend.
Combat: Surprise Round vs Flat Footed AC
Flurry of Blows: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 51d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 71d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 51d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Flurry of Blows: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 71d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 41d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 221d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Confirm Crit from last Flurry: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 + 2 = 201d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
The rogue finds himself being pummeled and pulled by two half orcs, flanking him on either side. Only Kyle and Rhydderch have line of sight from the deck above as they see their friend being accosted below. Getting down the rope ladder for any character is a full round action that provokes.

PFL: Elwyn (3/15hps) (will have the 'Flanked' condition next round)
EFL*: Monk 1, Monk 2
1 Deck up: Kyle, Rachelle, Marisan, Rhyderch*, Harboth
Please post round 1 actions. Note: Only two characters can have LOS through the deck hole. So, the first two characters who post that they attack at range through the trap door or cast a spell through it have LOS. Other character after that may only take actions that do not require LOS. Going down into the pit trap does not require LOS (and moving through friendlies is a given, just remember what I said above about going down).
Marisan
|
Hearing the sounds of hand-to-hand combat below, Marisan struggles to see what is happening through the deck hole. When she does, she attempts to nail one of the orcs with a sling bullet without hitting Elwyn.
Attack (w/-4 penalty as they're in melee): 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (15) - 1 = 14
Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
She then switches to her masterwork shortspear and prepares to go down belowdecks.

Round 1
Player's Turn
Kyle moves down the ladder provoking two attacks of opportunity
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 151d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 111d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Both fists hit his armor. One of the half orc's curse. Marisen nails one of the half orcs on the head as Rhydderch floods the room with a holy light.
Enemy's Turn
The first monk attempts to finish off the rogue.
Flurry w/Flank Monk1: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 + 2 = 211d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Flurry w/Flank Monk1: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 + 2 = 61d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Elwyn falls to the ground; a bloody mess. The monk laughs as his friend quickly turns to the newest threat in the room.
The second monk attacks Kyle.
Flurry w/Flank Monk2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 91d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Flurry w/Flank Monk2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 211d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
A hit lands solidly on the healer.

Thanks Kyle - great roll! Anyone else please feel free to lay on the healing loving! Sorry, missed some of this morning due to meetings. If there is a chance pre-pummeling to get a round of attack in here goes:
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Oh well, might not matter anyway. What is my condition or what can I do or not do with being healed back above 0 HP?
Kyle Gray
|
I hate to point it out, but the stairs is actually a rope ladder and we were told it would take a full round action to get down that would provoke.
Elwyn, I believe you're knocked prone and could stand which would provoke, but if you wait until someone descends you might get away without attack assuming the monks don't have combat reflexes and they decide to attack whoever comes down. Otherwise, you might take a penalty on your attack in the prone position. Kyle would have provoked an AoO this round if the monks didn't get a lucky shot in last time. :(

Harboth rushes to the hole and fires an arrow at the nearest bad guy. At the same time, he yells at them in Orcish Vazgeçmeyeceğim veya orospular oğulları öLMEK!!

Marisan, Rhydderch: As Kyle pointed out, climbing down the rope is a full round movement that provokes, so you will not be able to attack this round. I will ignore your rolls above. Elwyn, I post the known conditions characters are under in the wonderfully detailed posts I do above. At the beginning of the round, you were unconscious and prone at -2. Kyle healed you, so you can safely presume that you are conscious and prone when you put in your battle orders above. I'll take that roll you just did as your attack (from a prone condition)
Round 2
Player's Turn
Kyle reaches over and heals the fallen comrade (7/15 hps). Marisan moves down the rope ladder, provoking attacks of opportunity.
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 61d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 141d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Both of them miss. Elwyn tries to stab an orc from the ground, but cannot find his mark. Rhydderch climbs down the rope ladder, and positions himself or his next attack. Harboth attempts to shoot one of the orcs, but finds it hard to get a bead on them with all the moving bodies in the way. (-4 for firing into melee)
Enemy's Turn
The monks continue to pummel Kyle.
Flurry w/Flank Monk1: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 + 2 = 131d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Flurry w/Flank Monk1: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 + 2 = 71d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Flurry w/Flank Monk2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 161d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Flurry w/Flank Monk2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 211d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
A flying kick hits Kyle in the back of the head, and he falls to the grounds with a sick "thump." One of the orcs laugh while the other one points out the rogue is conscious.

Marisan shouts a curse in Polyglot as Kyle goes down just after he had revived Elwyn.
Her original plan (attack with spear) stands, *unless* Rhydderch does not move to treat Kyle AND she judges he is close to dying, in which case she will move next to him and attempt first aid to help him stabilize. Because of the urgency, she won't be able to use the healer's kit, so her skill bonus is +4, not +6.
Heal to determine Kyle's condition: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Heal to apply first aid, if it seems crucial: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
OK, just saw Rydderch's post from a few minutes ago, so cancel all that. Even the 1 point of healing with stabilize Kyle, so she will stab at the hurt monk with her spear as originally planned.
Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

Elwyn, seeing his savior bludgeoned, digs deep and thrusts his rapier into the heart of the least wounded orc.
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Awesome, the fates align!
Confirm crit. 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Harboth Redacre
|
GM: Please remember that Harboth has the Precise shot feat, so he DOES NOT suffer the -4 to hit for firing into melee.
Harboth takes a shot at the hurt monk (unless Marisan dropped him, of course, in which case he will shoot the other one)
Attack(with Precise Shot and Point Blank Shot, humainoid(human) Favored Enemy): 1d20 + 4 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 4 + 1 + 2 = 13
damage(with Point Blank Shot, humainoid(human) Favored Enemy): 1d8 + 4 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 1 + 2 = 10
I'm assuming here that half-orcs count as humans for purposes of Favored Enemy, as they do for other "effects related to race."
Harboth Redacre
|
I am on vacation tomorrow, and will not be able to post at all times. If this combat continues, Harboth will continue to attack. Below are a couple of rolls just in case:
Attack(with Precise Shot and Point Blank Shot, humanoid(human) Favored Enemy): 1d20 + 4 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 4 + 1 + 2 = 16
damage(with Point Blank Shot, humanoid(human) Favored Enemy): 1d8 + 4 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 4 + 1 + 2 = 13
Attack(with Precise Shot and Point Blank Shot, humanoid(human) Favored Enemy): 1d20 + 4 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 1 + 2 = 11
damage(with Point Blank Shot, humanoid(human) Favored Enemy): 1d8 + 4 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 4 + 1 + 2 = 13
If another PC drops, Harboth will come down from the upper deck and will shove himself into the midst of the hand-to-hand combat, with the following result:
Attack(with humanoid(human) Favored Enemy): 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 6 + 2 = 21
damage(with humanoid(human) Favored Enemy): 1d12 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 6 + 2 = 13

They do count as humans as well, Harboth, so it would count...though you're not going to get chance to use it
Round 3
Player's Turn
As the monks move in to finish the job they started on the rogue, Marisan whips out her spear and exacts revenge on the first monk. His death scream pierces the darkness has she pierces his lungs through his back rib cage. The first monk, momentarily distracted by the death of his friend, gives Elwyn a perfect opportunity. Elwyn slashes the orcs leg, and as he instinctively falls to one knee, he stabs him in the side. Orcish green blood spills out and the monk slumps over.

Though the missing Pathfinder is nowhere to be found on the ship, Pathfinder Cestis’s wayfinder is in the belt pouch of one of the monks.
Observations: The party sees more than a dozen shackled slaves, most of them prominent Cassomiran citizens. Among the slaves are Orfeo Bozbeyli, the arrogant young nephew of Cassomir’s governor, and Creighton Nish, a former Andoren Eagle Knight who now works in Cassomir as a relics dealer for interests back in Andoran.
I'm going to be in an airport around 2pm EST. If I can get an internet signal there, I shall post...otherwise, it will be 6pm EST at the earliest that I can post, and probably later than that.

I've checked in a few times, I'm not in a position to stabilize or heal.
"Rydderch - see what you can do to attend to Kyle's wounds, I fear he may be slipping away fast. I'm ok for now, but perhaps later we can address mine.
Looking over at the captives, he addresses them, "We are here to help you all, you are in good hands now.. He scans the group looking to see if any of them are wearing a necklace, bracers or some type of amulet, looking especially close at Nish. "We are Pathfinders and are seeking one of our own, are any among you Pathfinders or do you know where he may have been taken?"
He then walks over to Rachele and whispers to her, "Cast detect magic and see if anything comes up - might flesh out the amulet."
