I have never heard of rolling under one's stat.
In 3.5 anyway, an ability check was just like a skill check that has no ranks, 1d20 + ability modifier.
no one said anything about rolling under a stat it was a d20 + ability mod neither of them made the check so its a moot point at this point.

Lord Thasmudyan, I don't know too much about google docs' spreadsheet kerjigger, but is it possible to open the editing of the fields so we can move our character letters about? Might help visualizing the descriptions of actions.
Love the doc BTW...as close to a flip map as we can get on a PbP.

not that I am aware of, I will check when I get home, on a side note me and dougfungus (malcom's player) are working on a alternative way to see the maps as google docs is a limited in its ability. hopefully we will be using that soon, I did up some tokens for each character but doug is really good from his own game with the maptools so it may work much better. doug could tell you how easily it will be editable but it should help with visualizing what I am describing even more so.

Google doca can be set to allow others to edit( i think you add them to a list) some people were recruiting to play just on google docs
Also doesn't maptools require being on at the same and linking up?
Third I havent found out how to do fog of war on maptools (in fact I am mostly sure it hasn't been added yet, only seen that feature on a rather expensive program) but with excel its easy,
Though I would suggest having a color for walls and a different color for what we havent seen.

From what doug was saying with the maptools I would have to upload to a cloud like thing such as skydrive and then just have to give you access to it via your email address. Which I can already do with google docs if I wanted to be more secure so that only we could view it I will see if I can also give editing capability when i get home in a little bit. regardless of which route we go I need everyones email address so I can make give access to the maps more easily, you can just pm me, once I have seen what doug did I can always upload to the skydrive I was going to use and we can vote on which one the party wants to go with

The devil is in the details, which we can have lots of if we switched to Maptools Maps. As for editing, that would be up to Lord Thasmudyan. Maptools has quite the learning curve but it can do some pretty amazing things. It all depends on who is using it.
The reason I recommended the change in the first place is because I cant see the spreadsheet on my mobile phone which is where I do the majority of my posting from. Changing the map to an image would correct that problem.
Also doesn't maptools require being on at the same and linking up?
Only if you want to play live online games. It also comes with a handy feature that lets you export screenshots which are convenient for PBP games and so on.
Third I havent found out how to do fog of war on maptools (in fact I am mostly sure it hasn't been added yet, only seen that feature on a rather expensive program)
Mpatools does fog of war quite well. As I mentioned above, it has that learning curve. I guarantee it exists though.
From what DougFungus was saying with the maptools I would have to upload to a cloud like thing such as skydrive and then just have to give you access to it via your email address.
The method that I use in my PBP is extreme overkill in terms of complexity. The reason I do what I do is because I like to challenge my players with making independent decisions and to eliminate Metagaming based on line of sight. For something like this I'd probably recommend uploading to Photobucket or something similar and just linking the maps to the Play Thread. That would be a lot easier.
In any case I'll have the map complete tonight. What happens with it after that is not up to me.

ANNOUNCEMENT!
I'm not going to be available to make posts July 4 - July 8 because I'm going to be away at A Music Festival. I'll have my phone with me to check on things but there is a strong chance I'll be having too much fun to post anything substantial. I hope this doesn't inconvenience anybody too much.

Login with gmail account. I originally sent him a hotmail one, but then I re-sent him my gmail account so it could be all in one place.
