Ok. That makes them more common than I was thinking. Roll it up and let's see what comes out.

For the record Draegloth are not always male, they can be ether gender. Really don't want to meet one that's a priestess or favored by Lolth. ;)

so... summoners. unchained only or what?

Unchained only, yes.

IIRC it is in Advanced Races.

He'sDeadJim wrote:

The ritual is described, in detail, in one of the FR novels. Forgive me if I miss any detail that matters:

The priestesses in the Temple have an orgy (basically this is the best word to use here, I'm not trying to be crude) for the graduating class of Melee-Magthere every year in Menzoberanzan with the priestesses of Lolth. This is a also a ritual that involves a high level summoning of a Demon. If Loth and the demon are pleased, the demon joins in, and the priestess involved (whoever is chosen by the demon I think) is supposed supposed to favored. SOMETIMES this results in a Draegloth. It can be with any priestess that was involved with the ritual I beileve, and ANY house that has a Draegloth is considered to be in the current favor of Lolth at the time of its birth...or something like that. Having been said...they are often the over-privileged over-indulged favored son of a house, and most of the house's other noble children hate them with...a lot really.

Isn't this from the first Drizzt book? Where he gets overwhelmed, refuses to sleep with a priestess, and runs out of the room, then his sister (who basically raised him as a child) follows him out and makes incestuous advances on him?

Ah, drow society ... :P

(I didn't know that was the origin of draegloths, though. I'll have to read up on them more if there might be one as a PC in this campaign.)

1 person marked this as a favorite.

That's right. I remember that now because was like, Ewwww ew ew ew, oh thank heavens he ran... AHHH it's getting worse!

Backstory:

Elvthrae was definitely determined to be a rising star within society. From a young age she wanted to live up to her noble heritage and become a key figure within her house, even though it meant that her enemies would be far more common than if she kept a low profile. Nothing if not practical, Elvthrae set out to quickly eliminate as many of her future rivals as best as she could, even though her arcane powers at this stage were very limited. Instead, Elvthrae sought to manipulate her rivals into the path of someone far stronger than herself who could usually take care of the problem for her, without actually realizing they were indirectly doing Elvthrae a favor.

Most unusually, Elvthrae was determined to be admitted to an arcane school so further her magical ability, becoming one of the fewer drow females pursuing arcane magic rather than divine. Elvthrae pressed hard for her case (and subtly attempted to manipulate the process as best as she could) while waiting for the status of her application. Currently, Elvthrae is persisting into creating a fiction that she is a slightly weak or vulnerable noble drow. While weakness is not thought highly of, Elvthrae is currently using it as a shield to prevent others from realistically sensing her as a possible future threat and rival, while she struggles to gradually find a foothold within her House. Its a tricky balance to strike though least she become a pawn of someone else.

Description and Personality:

Elvthrae definitely has a defensive outlook on life, reacting extremely quickly against any sort of possible threat. While Elvthrae will usually mimic a personality best fitting any given situation, she much prefers to be in command and in the thick of things, manipulating any given situation into her advantage. She is polite to all, the only exception being to people she believes are no real threat and are of a lower status, where perhaps some of her trademark arrogance comes into play. Elvthrae usually pursues a singular goal with single minded determination to the exclusion of all else before moving on in her next step. Despite her ability to be rather headstrong, she tries to think long term when she can, doing her best to make long term plans whenever she can.

In looks, Elvthrae looks very much like a standard drow. Pursuing magical arts means that Elvthrae prefers to avoid armor, instead relying on magical defenses and this usually allows her greater flexibility in clothing. With her long silver hair and dark eyes, Elvthrae favors colors of black and red with her clothing, which is usually rather simplistic. Elvthrae has a slight flaw in that she is slightly vain and therefore is rather happy to wear clothing that might draw the eye - even in situations where it might be better to blend in.

Goals and Aspirations:

Elvthrae knows that as a practitioner of arcane magic, the chances of her having a controlling stake in the leadership of her house is rather small, with that honor almost always going towards the priestesses of the House. She does, however, wish to advance her Houses prestige by becoming one of the more influential arcane mages in the city, and achieving the desired status and titles that go with it. Its certainly a risky goal, but Elvthrae at the moment is content with simple goals such as gradually supporting her House in its attempts to gain a greater role in the leadership of the city, putting aside her personal goals for the time being.

Background of Jaraxus:

Oh, the flamboyant 2nd son of House Kewadin. Lazy and unambitious, failure or rather non-achiever in the Melee Magthere. Jaraxus is well-known money spender among Drow society, bringing wealth with him and spending it away, often earning scorn of his own familie. Better known for his nickname "Flamboyant" among his fellows but in the shadows he is called also as "Cockroach"

Jaraxus would have died a long time ago or banished from the family, if not for his information network and strange ability to "evade" all those assassination attemps from both his family and enemies. Keeping in the fringes of his House politics, proving his worth to be just enough to be tolerated but not wanted with his information about recent events or possible happenings.

Jaraxus does spend most of his time inside his room, fascinated about the intrigues of his hometown. Recently though, Jaraxus has been seen moving more actively and taking more of handsdown approach with dirty work, but then he has always been quite strange person and eccentric one. Recently he has been trusted to collect of some of the botanical ingredients due to his own interested towards flowers.

Ambition:

The news among the society of something going on, or rather rumours that something will happen has piqued the interest of Jaraxus. Jaraxus had always been ambitious but the ruling of matriarch based society hasnt been to his liking plus the scorn of higher members towards him were mostly reason for Jaraxus to keep his presense low. Staying just enough important for his own family but keeping his distance, Jaraxus pays attention to the information and ongoing rumours among town, looking for a chance to cause... unexpected result as well maybe to rise in ranks.

Recently Jaraxus has been paying attention to one of his sisters, receiving interesting "vibes" from her, sensing that something is going on but unsure of what.

Realising that change might be happening, Jaraxus will catch on it if possible, even it means that he will have to start show his cards and no longer able to stay out-of-sight. The last decades has been quite boring and the chance to bring chaos and change to this otherwise boring world is a welcome change. Even Jaraxus likes occassional chaos and mayhem from time to time

Here is crunch plus some info about Jaraxus Kewadin, 2nd born Son in the Noble House.

Also, I tied a bit connection with Elvthrae (your character Viviana) if that is ok. It was quite interesting and it did give me inspiration for my guy :)

Remind me, exactly how much [expletive deleted] will a half-elf have to put up with in a situation like this?

(I'm mulling over a monk build.)

Your best possible life outcome is valued slave. And I'm not referring to "they're like family but I own them" slaves.

Heya - the more I thought about it, the mounted/cavalier concept is a bit cumbersome and not something I really want to work with

I would like to run a character with a companion, however, so I am thinking a Druid (Race TBD) with a vermin companion. Crunch and background pending...

Extremely interested!
I love those books; read everyone (2-3 times) up to current ones....i would love to do this campaign.
Off the top i am thinking drow (noble?) slayer but i will mull it over....

Related to this, would the feat Vermin Heart apply to Call animal?

The way I read it you could call a vermin animal without vermin heart, but if you happened to have vermin heart it would definately be no problem

Man I wish there was a way to get both an Inquisition and a Domain as an Inquisitor. I know I could just take a level of Cleric, but that doesn't fit my build/concept at all.

@Grovo

You can include references to my character if you want, I dont have a problem with it. An earlier draft had Elvthrae killing off all her siblings before anyone else had to do the same to her, but it wasn't a very PC backstory so I cut it out and realized that in any case, at level 3 such tactics were probably beyond her anyway. Regardless, Elvthrae should be ok with Jaraxus though, in that while they might have similar goals, they don't clash too much for it to be a concern to her.

Background:
When Serris' innate magical abilities never manifested, he found himself falling far out of favors with others in his family, and social class. To escape the consequences of becoming a pariah, he wandered remote places of the underdark, and one day found himself linked in some strange way to the natural forces inherent in the wild places of the world. He sought and found an accepting Druidic Circle on the surface world. Unfortunately his connection to mindless vermin did not mesh well with the elders of the circle, who feared the possibility of his transition to one of the Blight. Serris returned to his first home. And while he realizes he will likely always be an outcast no matter where he goes, he hopes to prove to his kin that his power, un-Drow as it is, is one to be reckoned with...

(and yes - I realize I have potentially limited things with the choice of alternate race trait...)

This is Dorian Grey's submission.

Any comments or questions are welcome.
I don't remeber town names and such, so I just kept Golarion for now.
I plan on editing his backstory a bit to more fit when I have more information, or even, chosen, of course.
Thank you.

How does Nathaniel get to the Underdark and get involved with the Drow?

I am still working on that part.
I may adjust the time table. He may be now a slave in the drow areas?

That could work. Or captured in a Drow raid.

Not too familiar with this part of the setting. Is this Golarion's underdark? I'm thinking a Pathfinder who was captured while mapping a tunnel system that went deeper than anyone thought, and I don't mean a PFS Murderhobo. I mean an actual, honest-to-Nethys magical archaeologist who has, in fact, gotten in way over his head.

I'm kinda running a Forgotten Realms setting with dashes of Golarion to taste. So the Pathfinder as an organization probably won't show up, but if you are talking Profession(pathfinder) that's totally plausible

I was talking about the organization, but I can just as easily make an archaeologist who is not a Pathfinder. Possibly that campaign trait from Mummy's Mask that signifies experience with traps and the ability to break them, and be a wizard of some description.

Would you be opposed to a sylph? From what I understand elves, my first choice for wizards, are not usually spared painful death at the hands of drow. And does Forbidden Realms have a "City at the Center of the World" like Absalom, or better yet, an archaeologist guild?

Their version is Waterdeep, and you could be a Harper, which are sorta akin to Pathfinders. Though they are a rather proactive fights evil type, I believe they share the whole 'exploration, discover new places, etc' theme of the PFs.

Ok, you asked for it, so here it is:

Hakk'Vidarro Kewadin, 3rd level Draegloth.

I have no illusions and realize he probably wont make it into the game.

But thank you for the chance nonetheless. I have wanted to play a Draegloth for years just to see what it would be like, and now I was at least given the chance to try.

So thanks GM Choon.

also, i'm not sure if you answered this already. for wealth, it says "roll" ... do you mean i should roll starting wealth x3?

Upon reading the entries I think the RAW says no, but if you are selected and I find your character lacking when compared to the rest of the party then I reserve the right to use my GM Stick of Rule Bendieness and allow them to stack.

I love using my DM stick of bending rules. It recharges daily!

Huh. I was actually pretty confident about unarmed and ki pool, since they have that 'use sacred fist level as monk level' line instead of 'like the monk ability' in flurry description. Was mostly wandering what to do with two different flurries, one of which is much better at the start (since unchained monk's flurry doesn't inflict -2 to hit), but the other gets to scale with level.

Anyhow, in that case I'll probably just avoid monk level dips alltogether. Rogue, maybe?

Ya, it's pretty on the fence. The tipping point was the AC bonus which specifically states that it stacks. If the others were meant to stack, why didn't the authors say so like they did with the AC bonus? I don't see it as a big problem. It's not going to break anything if it does stack, but I'm trying to avoid bending many rules outside allowable races at this point for my sanity's sake.

GM Choon wrote:

I think the reason they had to clarify AC bonus especially as opposed to the other features is that those extra +1s are actually of different types by RAW. Monk's are untyped, Fist's are dodge (plus, the abilities themselves are (Ex) and (Su) respectively), so without an extra line deliberately overriding this one would have to count levels and track bonuses separately for these features.

That's a good point.

You know what? I let a guy build a half demon just to see what would come out. Go ahead. :)

Good ol curiosity....any cats here...

Everything looks good on Nate, by the way.

Oh I have plenty of dead cats in my inventory.

I am a little confused. If we go Drow Noble are we getting all 3 character levels or only one?

Three levels with the reduced point buy. I'm not going to fool with level adjustments in this game where the race/monster doesn't really have a static CR. If things go wonky and the nobles are fun-killingly broke compared to the others we'll fix it cooperatively at a later date.

Could you give the reduced point buy again?

5 points.

I will throw my hat in the ring with an oldie but goodie
