It matters not what you fight, but what you fight for.

Right, ok, but I don't have Loremouse that I can see so the only thing I could roll was my Nature 6 as the test skill, which was why I rolled 6d6.

So then the +2d6 of helping would be added to my 6d6 that I already rolled of Nature?

Yes, you did everything right.

Male Animal Kith Wizard 2

Let me know if there's a way I can better format my posts in the future to help.

Male Mouseguard Pikeman!

Just a post to let you guys know i've been following...

Thom: 1 Check — George: 1 Check — Vivian: 1 Check

As of now, Dain has obtained 0/2 Failures and 1/3 Successes for his next advancement in Fighter.

Ingrid has obtained 0/5 Failures and 1/6 Successes for her next advancement in Nature.

Robin has obtained 0/3 Failures and 1/4 Successes for her next advancement in Nature.

You can only obtain one advancement-contributing test per skill per conflict—so future Fighter rolls from Dain during this conflict will not contribute further to an advancement.

Female Kobold

Just waiting for a second helping die for Dain's roll.

Female Kobold

Dain has obtained 0/3 Failures and 1/4 Successes for his next advancement in Nature, though only by Baron's help.

Mouse

That was a success? :S

Female Kobold

Baron's aid counts. :P

For tests like this (without a set Obstacle), at least one success counts as a success.

Actually, my mistake. That is indeed a failure. I'm confusing it with Independent tests (like the ones Ingrid and the raven just had to make).

Mouse

About the compromise... what about some mail pieces are dropping off, so we can follow the raven, trying to retrieve the mail?

Female Kobold

That sounds reasonable.

Male Animal Kith Wizard 2

What will our compromise be? We need to track the raven down. Perhaps Robin was able to see the Ravens nest or something while shes flying around on it.

Female Kobold

Either would be a valid compromise.

Female Kobold

Don't get too wordy with Martin right now. This is a setup to an Argument conflict—you'll have plenty of time to state your case then.

Male Mouseguard Pikeman!

Okay. But I knowz he's up to no goodz!

Female Kobold

By the way, Baron, is your intention that Martin overhears Baron's remark?

Male Mouseguard Pikeman!

Absolutely not, I would never dream of going out of turn. I have "action economy" tatooed on my left bicept.

Female Kobold

In very small print on your tiny tiny mouse arms.

Posting again tonight when I get home from work. Was majorly sick yesterday, sorry.

Female Kobold

That's okay! Feel better!

Male Mouseguard Pikeman!

Gm you have an excellent handle on this game. But I've read the book and favorited a few of your explanation posts in order to refer back to them easily, but I just can't get my head around a basic question:

On my turn, given that I might sometimes WANT to fail and sometimes WANT to succeed, what are my general options? Or is it so complicated with if/then clauses that a list like this can't be created for reference??

The way I see it I can:

1. Roll a skill
2. Roll a skill and ADD 1d6 via trait
3. Roll a skill and SUBTRACT 1d6 via a trait
4. Spend a Persona point and ADD all nature dice
5. Spend a Persona point and Add 1d6
6. Spend a fate point in order to REROLL 6s as EXPLODING DICE
7. Roll NATURE in place of a skill I don't have (though this prevents me from learning new stuff)
8. Roll BEGINNERS LUCK by rollingWill or Health, adding appropriate bonuses for wises, gear, traints, and player help, then make the test using half the total number.

Can't we just say, in-character, "Okay old man, you win, we'll go with you to Weaseltown?" In other words, forfeit?

Male Mouseguard Pikeman!

Haha! You wanna go weasel hunting too? *highfive*

Female Kobold

You can choose to forfeit a conflict, but it generally leads to a less interesting result (and it itself is an optional rule not every campaign uses for that reason). :P

Baron, that's an excellent list. Fate points can be spent after the roll to turn any dice that came up 6s into "exploding" dice.

So for instance, say I got a bunch of aid and rolled 11d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 5, 1, 4, 3, 4, 5, 1, 4, 6) = 37.

...

Well, after throwing my dice out the window and getting a new set, say I decided to spend a Fate point. I would then get to reroll that one six.

1d6 ⇒ 4

So then I get an extra success. Had I rolled another six, I could have continued rerolling to keep getting successes.

Male Mouseguard Pikeman!

Okay, I edited that post to explain fate points. Thank you!

Male Animal Kith Wizard 2

I don't understand how I can halve the helping dice, each mouse only contributes 1d6 and you can't halve 1d6.

Also, Dain, it's better to put me up for maneuvers.

Female Kobold

You halve the total. So, add all the dice up (except stuff from Persona/Fate Points, I believe), then break it down the middle.

Mouse

Well, I think we need offense to win this one...

Female Kobold

Feint is a sort of offense, incidentally, and it also gets to use Manipulator. Kinda sucks if the enemy uses Attack, of course, as you've just seen.

Mouse

Ok, let's change that one to maneuver...

Weekends are slow for pbp. I'm sure Robin will post soon:)

Female Kobold

Oh, right, it's a weekend.

Sczarni

Yeah, bloody weekends. Always gettin in the way of our games!

Male Animal Kith Wizard 2

I work the weekends so it seems especially tragic.

Sorry guys :( I only have custody of my infant son Friday nights to Sunday nights, so I don't get a lot of computer time for those days.

Female Kobold

No, that's fine. Like I said, I actually forgot it was a weekend (I'd been going into town a bunch, so it didn't feel like one).

Male Animal Kith Wizard 2

Does Bonehead-wise help me here?

Thom: 1 Check — George: 1 Check — Vivian: 1 Check

There are three uses for a Wise.

• "I Am Wise": Use to aid another mouse without being subject to Reap What You Sow.
• "Deeper Understanding": Spend a Fate Pint to reroll a single failed die (one that rolled less than four)
• "Of Course!": Spend a Persona Point to reroll all failed dice on a test.

You could apply Bonehead-wise here (it's a fairly open-ended wise), but I think you've spent all your points already.

Sczarni

CN Human Bard 1 (Street Performer); AC 14, touch 12, flat-footed 12 (+2 armor, +2 Dex); hp 10/10; Fort +3, Ref +5, Will +3

oooo, added to my growing list of "what can I do on my turn" thingys:)

9. "Deeper Understanding": Spend a Fate Pint to reroll a single failed die (one that rolled less than four)
10 "Of Course!": Spend a Persona Point to reroll all failed dice on a test.

Male Animal Kith Wizard 2

Does the guard have any authority to arrest or detain people?

Thom: 1 Check — George: 1 Check — Vivian: 1 Check

There are two answers to that question, depending on where you are.

If you were on the road, or in Lockhaven: Complicated. Probably, but there's no official authority—other settlements might challenge Lockhaven if it attempted it without clear reason.

In other settlements: Almost always no. Here, the town has authority, and you're just visitors (albeit respected ones).

Female Kobold

Regardless of how the next round goes, this round will mark the end of the conflict. If you're unable to decrease his disposition, the most either side will be getting is a compromise.

Male Animal Kith Wizard 2

I got 4 successes, can't we impede him and boost us?

Female Kobold

That is exactly what you did.

Male Animal Kith Wizard 2

I'm not sure I properly understand, what exactly is it we can do? Can I try and heal Robins leg?

Thom: 1 Check — George: 1 Check — Vivian: 1 Check

Yes, you can spend your check to attempt that. It's a Healer test.

Female Kobold

For future reference, I don't recommend posting your own action in the Player's Turn until you know how the last player's action went. Take it in turn, and help however you can.

Ingrid has not acted yet. We are still on Dain's turn.

Female Kobold

Gonna be busy for a lot of today. Got a poetry slam event, a midterm, and an RPG club meeting to run.

Sczarni

CN Human Bard 1 (Street Performer); AC 14, touch 12, flat-footed 12 (+2 armor, +2 Dex); hp 10/10; Fort +3, Ref +5, Will +3

At least you are doing what you love. I spend most days programming computers, *blekh!*

Female Kobold

Come on, guys. The Player's Turn is your chance to jump the rails and drive the plot in new directions. It's your chance to do what you can't in the GM's Turn!

Male Animal Kith Wizard 2

But isn't this the end of our thing before we cycle over to the next group of players? There's really nothing I want to do with Ingrid; it's hard for me to like her character. I'd rather just pass.
