As Belo struggles to help lift Daniel, the deputy says, "I'll hold him, if you can just do the cleaning."
As they make their way through the common room he reiterates his invitation, "Gentlemen, I apologize for the interruption but once we get this fellow situated Belo and I will still be conversing, and we'd still be pleased to have you join us..."
Once they get up to his room, the Deputy pulls his manacles and shackles Daniel to the bed. "I don't know what madness drove him into the dark and rain but it seems best to restrain him before returning him to consciousness... just in case..."

Belo Flavatsky |

After Belo open's his Healer's Kit to minster to Daniel's jaw, he quickly checks to see if the door is closed.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19
After making sure the door is secure, Belo, under his breath, invokes Pharisma and the spirit world, to cast guidance on Daniel.
After the orision, Belo applies his knowledge of the healing arts by way of the Healer's Kit. Heal: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22

Vishnya Mallick |

"Yes. I believe I should like to join you. There are strange matters here to be dealth with."
He continues smoking his pipe, puzzledly, as a flurry of activity arises around Daniel's flight into the night.
Seeing that the Blonde varisian had the injured man handled, he decides that his help would probably just be in the way.
"Now, it seems to me that we have things to talk about. You aer all friends of the Professor? A queer coincidence. Or mayhaps not. If I were to say that I felt a dark prescence down in that place, what would you think?"

Radriel Shadowsbane |

Joining everyone gathered in the room Can any of you search for signs of possession in this man? Referring to the injured man. It's either that or he was driven mad by the macabre song or that whispering voice from out of nowhere. I can't think of anything else that could account for his strange behavior.

Radriel Shadowsbane |

"Now, it seems to me that we have things to talk about. You aer all friends of the Professor? A queer coincidence. Or mayhaps not. If I were to say that I felt a dark prescence down in that place, what would you think?"
---Vishnya
-----------------------------------------------------------------Responding to Vishnya I expect many strange things in this country, but what happened downstairs was something else entirely. So yes, I believe you and more than that I think it may have something to do with the Professor. It can't just be chance that so many of us here seem to have known him.

Zagathoth |

The deputy makes sure the door is shut securely and props a door in front of it to further bar it. He stands nearby it and gives it a sharp rap every couple of minutes to hurt the ears of any would-be eavesdroppers (and hopefully hear them react in the hallway).
"It's been a long many years since I had any experience with possession... but I think we may have more pressing matters than this man's mental state..."
Knock
"that ministrel clouded the minds of all the locals as they sang along... Something strange and unsavory is going on here... I'm not sure that it's related to the professor's death though... I suppose we can't rule it out yet. The reason there are so many friends of the professor's here right now is simple- this is the only inn within a few hours of Ravengro and the weather waylaid those of us traveling there for his funeral."
"And, it seems fortunate that we are... There is strength in numbers after all and if you all are so inclined we could share a single room and set a guard rotation in case any trouble comes up?"

Hector Lindenbrook |

Ok, time to execute PLAN X!
SO MANY LULZ
As the locals clear out, Hector, still shaken up (especially after that voice ENTERED INTO HIS HEAD), decides to stay underneath the table for awhile. Once the other overnight guests take their keys and head upstairs, Hector reluctantly crawls out from underneath his table and swipes his key from the barmaid.
..Did I hear those rowdy blokes talking about Petros?
Hector has had a busy night, but his damning interest made him decide to snoop around for a bit. He went up to his room, locked the door, made sure there weren't any unwanted shadows about, then pulled out his spellbook.
Using 1 Arcane Reservoir point to use my Quick Study class feature to reset my Mount spell prepared to prepare the Vanish spell.
Thus, Hector puts his equipments away, locks the windows, unlocks the door, steps into the hallway, and locks the door again. AND THE SNOOPING BEGINS.
[dice=Stealth (To move silently in the hall)]1d20+11It equaled 24
[dice=Perception (Ear is cupped against the wall of the hall, trying to hear the voices of the men talking about the Professor)]1d20+6It equaled 7I will take a 20 on the perception check to find where Deputy Carter's room is, if possible.
Disable Device Check on the door=19, if anything unplanned for happens Hector will immediately cast Vanish upon himself, attempting to do so before anyone actually sees him

GM Bone Man |

yes your plan goes off without a hitch but other players can do a perception check if they choose to. I would do it but I'm on my phone and I'm driving right now. little while I forget how high the DC to spot invisibility is lol but they can do for perception to hear you. as hector move down the dark and dreary hallway. The shadows cast from the lightning strike make them look like unholy claws reaching for him. yet still he continues to find the room where the men he met earlier are, it seems very easy to find even with the storm raging outside there is still muffled voices that can be heard coming from only 1 door. and so hector invisible to the naked eye unlocks the door quietly...

Hector Lindenbrook |

There are some factors put into play by Deputy Carter, he put a chair behind the door and knocks on it every so often. Should the players figure that interaction out of let you do it?

GM Bone Man |

ah. .but the room doors open out into the hallway not into the room...so the door opening would make everyone look since a chair would fall (I thinks he mentioned to put a chair in front of the door not a "door") but would still offer Hector the chance to get inside of the room ^_^
Edit
Once I get to work, if no one has I'll roll perception for everyone to get that out of the way

Hector Lindenbrook |

As Hector cups his ear against the wall, he hears the repeated knock of assumedly the man in white, allowing him to find the room without much effort.
The voices therein confirm Hector's hooks of assumption. He begins to work on the lock, ever so carefully, jutting it open without sound, pausing at the slight squeak of a creak or a metallic scrape, then reassuming the work. As the lock opens, he sprinkles some glittering dust on his person, whispers words of an old lost tongue, and becomes nothing.
As the door opens towards him, the chair crashes, and Hector scrambles to keep his composure, then slips through the alarmed men's legs, scurrying underneath the bed... ...textbook.
But then, as the conversation continues, and the men's suspicion is aroused, Hector ponders something which causes him a bit of fright;
What if I get caught? I've not but menial tricks left... How will I get out of here?
These thoughts dwell in his mind, stewing his thoughts to a simmering fear. But he makes no peeps, and lets his ears do their work.
I'm assuming that most of the persons present in the room will respond by flipping out, which is what Hector would do if he were on the other end of that situation. This being said, I HAVE NO IDEA HOW THIS WILL PLAY OUT NOW.

Daniel Valiros |

I groan as the chair crashes, and then try to get up when I realize I am cuffed to the bed.
LEF ME UP! Righf Now!

GM Bone Man |

with his head bandaged and now somewhat dry Daniel slowly comes to, his head pounding as he looks around the room to find he has no idea how/when/why he is in this room lying the bed...the last thing he remembers is that he saw a flash oh light after he entered the barn looking for a horse
the rest of the party sees that Daniel has a complete horseshoe imprint im his face covering his jaw and going around the eye on the other side of his head under the new bandages there is one more partial print...it looks like this might scar...
ref pic 1 its on your jaw and side of your head

Zagathoth |

The Deputy quickly pulls the door closed and locks it. Then stands directly in front of it so nothing can reach the lock. "Of all the times to start making noise... hush Daniel, we need to hear! You two pointing to Vishnya and Radriel block those windows."
After listening for a moment, he quietly adds, "did anyone hear if it got into the room?"

Daniel Valiros |

I said, Thake This manacle off me!
Daniel proceeds to do the opposite of Carters and begins pulling on the manacle.
If whaf got info the room? [

Daniel Valiros |

There's some rude man holding a man against his will!
lol

Zagathoth |

Why didn't I leave this fool to die in the mud?!?
"Gentlemen, perhaps we should relocate to one of your rooms... we can leave this noise behind along with anything that may have gotten in?"

GM Bone Man |

...I don't know how I feel about that line since you heard nothing. ..and the one who did hear has not spoken up...
-Posted with Wayfinder

Daniel Valiros |

I'm assuming he refers to the door opening, as usually doors don't open by themselves

Zagathoth |

I said 'may' because its as much guess as deduction at this point, but something opened the door- and out of all the doors on this floor, this specific door... that's purposeful... so there's only 2 options: whatever did it came in the room and is trapped inside with us, or it got spooked and ran off... I'd prefer not to take the chance of being locked in with an unknown entity we can't see or identify so I'm focusing on the more negative/dangerous of the two options...
edit: ninja'd. thanks, Daniel, that was more or less the thought...

GM Bone Man |

well
1 it's an old place
2 it's could have been the chair that made it fall.
3 your point is also true ...so I let it play

Radriel Shadowsbane |

Radriels guard is up after that macabre song and the whispered voice. .and Just as he was finding some much needed comic relief in the plight of the large man with the horseshoe mark (permanently?) indented on his head_face. . The chair crashes to the ground as the door swings open for no visible reason. . Back to full alert he scans the room for threats but can detect nothing.
Following the Deputies suggestion Radriel blocks the window
"please be quiet for a bit " he says to the large man with the horseshoe mark. . Not expecting him to comply.
"Vishnya you sensed something malevolent in the common room. . Do you sense anything like that in this room with us now? "
-Posted with Wayfinder

Belo Flavatsky |

"I did hear something enter the room," said Belo. Turning his attention back to his patient, Belo asks, "Daniel, do you need any additional healing? I can cast a cure spell if you are in need of one."

Vishnya Mallick |

This is a bit embarrassing, I actually forgot he's not a paladin yet, so I don't have access to detect evil. Oops.
Vishnya cocks his head to the side, and stands still for a moment. Feeling nothing out of place, he decides that. "No, I believe that prescence has passed." Now that he's out of sight of the superstitious villagers, and in the company of the deceased professor's friends, who are, in all likelyhood a great deal more used to that kind of thing, he puts away his shaded glasses; they obscure what little vision he does have left, and are quite frankly a hassle to deal with. His eyes are quite particular, entirely white and staring ahead of him.
"If it was not the wind, then it might have been the weight of the chair that opened the door. Was it locked?"

Zagathoth |

"Yeah, it was locked," the deputy answers, "someone, or something unlocked that door purposefully... and Belo heard it come in, which means whatever it is its locked in here with us right now..."
As he speaks, he draws his rapier. "Belo, please don't heal him yet... If he can't escape the grips of this hysteria we may have to render him unconscious again, for his own protection... That'll likely be far easier while he's barely conscious already. But, if you do really have some ability in esoteric arts perhaps you could try to discern if there's some manner of magick at work here?"
magic users and hysterical fools... What kind of company did the professor keep when I wasn't around to look after him?!?

Daniel Valiros |

Daniel rolls his eyes, fake fhis manacle off me, or I fILL sho you hysteria. Specifically if fheir is something unwelcome in here. Kendra may be in danger. I heafily beliefe that the prof. and possibly his family has been fargefed by... someone. If fhaf is true I need fo get fheir as fast as possible. He finally explains through gritted teeth.
He uses his free hand to grab his shield if possible.

GM Bone Man |

Daniel you are still in a lot of pain from the jaw. ..it is freshly broken ^_^
-Posted with Wayfinder

Zagathoth |

no free hand... Hands are shackled together with the chain wrapped through/around the bed frame
"See what I mean?" the deputy says to Belo after this latest outburst, he's half dead and still hellsbent on running back out into the darkness... and struck with some manner of paranoia- he seems convinced that whatever dark power was manifested in the common room is somehow a threat to the professor's daughter hours away... It's nonsensical... and in the meantime he's making it impossible to figure out what threat is in this very room! Do you have any ether in the bag we could use to knock him out without doing any more damage to his soft head?"

Vishnya Mallick |

"That... Seems unwise. Rendering someone unconsciouss is not a trifling matter, and rarely lasts long regardless. A sleeping draught might be more poignant."
He turned his face half away from the deputy and winked one milky eye at Daniel.

Daniel Valiros |

now see, you didn't say nothing about running it around the bed :P
whaf makes you fhink, fhat some one, or something fhat knows fhe prof. Knows people were here on fheir way to his final farewell, and made a poinf to TRY and keep fhem from going, is working alone? my head is very hard! If fook a poinf blank kick from a horsse lefs see yours do fhat. Now uncuff me!

Belo Flavatsky |

Seeing that his "patient" will not cooperate, Belo walks calmly to the center of the room, closes his eyes and concentrates, despite the ruckus.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17 to see if Belo can locate the invisible being within the room.

GM Bone Man |

hahaha you made my wife spit her drink as she read that...;o;..i like how you tried to spin the near "skullcrush" from skullcrusher lol
and Belo that would be a no...

Radriel Shadowsbane |

Radriel walks up to the Deputy and whispers "I'm going down to the kitchen to pick up a bag of flour, powdered sugar or something similar. When I come back we'll coat this room from floor to ceiling and see what we find. Lock the door behind me. "
-Posted with Wayfinder

Zagathoth |

"Well, that's a surprisingly coherent thought," the deputy concedes after Daniel finally speaks, "please be quiet for a moment so we can figure out what servant of evil has intruded here and dispatch it, then I give you my word we will discuss potential dangers to the professor's daughter and what we might do about it."
Whether that earns some quiet or not, he will also listen for any sounds, and look everywhere he can from his current location for any signs of the intruder...
perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11 nope :(
edit: ninja'd... Adding this for Rad-
He whispers back, "smart idea, but be on your guard, there are strange things at work in here... when you get back knock out this pattern..." then he silently taps out a pattern on the stranger's chest where nobody else can see it...
the deputy has no idea about this but Vanish only lasts 1 round, so the invisibility is long gone by now

"If you have regained your wits I suspect that will be true..." the deputy replies with some hesitancy, "but so far you've rushed off into the darkness and a dangerous storm, tried to steal a horse, nearly got yourself killed, and carried on like a man possessed when we brought you to... you can understand our concerns... Will you give me your word not to make any more rash decisions until we can have a reasonable conversation about what's going on and our options?"

Daniel Valiros |

yeah. Whatever you say man. Jaw hurts to much to do anything anyway.

Hector Lindenbrook |

Oh no... Maybe this has gone too far... They think I'm a shadow... a shadow... They are the late Professor's companions... Maybe I can get out of this with my skin in tact... I hope... Damn! Galviel, what should I dooooooo?
As the door locks behind the man who left to go get the sack of ghost-be-gone, a portly, trembling figure crumbles out from underneath the bed, standing a little less than 3 feet tall, with his hands raised in surrender. Tears are welling in his eyes.
"Y-you are friends of the late Petros Lorrimor? I-I am as well... It was I who came inside, p-please don't hurt me..."
The tears become streams as he chokes on his words in terror of the tall-standing men surrounding him.
"I wanted to know what sort of people you were.... G-g-good people, I th-think."
As he sees their perilous gazes and initial reactions to his appearance, beads of sweat conjure all over his skin.

you shackled Daniels hands... are his feet tied?

Daniel Valiros |

grapple: 1d20 + 5 - 4 - 2 ⇒ (18) + 5 - 4 - 2 = 17(arms tied up and prone?)
With a jump scare from the suddenly appearing halfling, Daniel reacts from his training in the only way he can. As he wraps his legs around the little fellow, he hears his pleas and slowly loosens his grip, but not quite letting go.
Hmph, sneaking abouf an' eavesdropping. I suppose fhaf's whaf your folf are mosf known for. Wanf I should Lef em' go Carfer?

Zagathoth |

The deputy's eyes widen for a moment, impressed by the injured, shackled man's ability to grab the interloper with his feet... "You can let him go, Daniel, he's got nowhere to go..."
"Belo, can you come watch the door?" he asks as he fishes as key out of his pocket. When Belo comes over, he moves to the bed, removes the manacles, and loops them back on his belt, without ever taking his eyes of the small figure. "If you're going to do something to heal him, now's they time..."
He moves around in front of the intruder and begins asking questions and scrutinizing his answers, and his body language as he gives them... "how did you get in here unseen? Why were you spying on us? How did you know the professor?"

Hector Lindenbrook |

With wet eyes and trembling lips the small spelunker begins to ramble rounded answers to pointed questions.
"P-Petros Lo-Lorrimor wa-was my client and my teache-her. When I he-heard you speak of h-him I-I was inclined to see wh-who you all were, but di-didn't want t-to risk any harm-m to myself... Th-this is Usta-alav y'know... N-no ha-harm m-meant by it... M-my name is H-Hector L-L-L-Lindenb-brook..."
Hector squirms in the lock of the restrained man's legs with frightful futility. If it weren't for his pointed ears, slightly pompous garb, and his semi-obvious mystical powers, he would seem to any passerby as a crying, scared 7 year old boy.
As he is set free by the restrained man, he slides out of his legs and off of the bed as if he were a liquid, spilling onto the floor smoothly into a position of humble supplication.

Daniel Valiros |

Daniel Gets up rubbing his wrist that doesn't have the glove on it.
He then studies the halfling lying on the floor.
Aren'f you a halfling? I fhoughf your kind were also renowned for fheir bravery. He thinks a moment, Fhen again, who am I fo judge. Why didn' you jusf come speak to us in the firsf place?
He stands for a moment after collecting his shield.
How did you gef in here unseen? I was looking af fhe door. Or were you already in here before we got here?

Hector Lindenbrook |

Oh gods, thank you! Thank you!!! You've kept me alive for another day, and now I can even keep my secrets! The trolls were wrong after all... at least this time.....
"Strangers in U-Ustalav aren't al-lways the b-best kind to b-be forward with... Yes, I-I was in here be-before... ...before you came in. I-I was going to check each r-room for each of you, t-to see if y-you had the same l-letter I h-had recieved... Then y-you all came in... I neearly pissed mys-self..."
BLUFF CHECK: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Hector fumbles his pockets for the envelope with Kendra Lorrimor's script, and holds it up as if it were a sacred relic, to ward off devils from his soul.
If you want to add an extra bonus to the bluff check for the letter, I wouldn't be against it. But if not then it's fine ahaha.
