The Avalon Chronicles

Game Master lynora

This is a high level rules light game set in a school for magical kids, kinda a mash-up of Soul Eater, Harry Potter, and X-Men. :)

You can't teach an ooze to cast share language. Ooze isn't even an actual listed language, though some oozes are listed as telepathic.

If you know ignan, and another is capable of speaking it, but doesn't know it, they can learn it. (Using a linguistics rank) A child learns common, before even knowing a language.

?
Could you explain that?
(The one on last page.)

M Extrodinaraly Contrary Meatbag Fourm pyromancer 1

Just because you don't automatically know, doesn't mean you can't learn.

Normal Oozes know it the second they are born, /because/ they reproduce by splitting off.

When i made roel, i actually thought about what the ooze "language" could do if two were to share it as sentient creatures.

But if there are no words to translate and the entire language is done in feeling, either individual sounds with be novels long, or it's really not all that helpful because it's only as exact as its common translation.

Ah.

Roel has it, in a sense, as his first language. He thinks in a combination if it and common.

Really, i never said it was practical.

M Extrodinaraly Contrary Meatbag Fourm pyromancer 1

And i may not really have a grasp on how language works.

See, don't take what I'm saying here as undisputed fact. Sorry if i presented it that way.

These are just my thoughts over time.

I wouldn't worry about it too much Ice. Normally, languages may or may not be a big deal, but in this case, with it being more or less a fully made up language, used by oozes of all things, I would just let it slide and be fine.

Magic, Aklo might be a good actual language for your purposes, which in Golarion is the tongue of aberrations.

It's a class feature.

I love linguistics, but essentially a unit of language is just a symbol, each individual attributes their own understanding of that symbol in their mind based on what they intuit others to mean by that symbol. Thus speaking doesn't actually convey anything, it is just glimpse of what the speaker thinks and the listener may or may not understand correctly based on how close their own understanding matches that of the speaker.

Language, the original stand alone complex. :)

I'm with Vickory on this one, language (and linguistics) is one of my favourite things. I'm very glad when Paizo made Golarion that they decided to include regional languages (even Common is just Taldan). It adds so much richness to the world. :)

(This is one of the reasons why I'm very careful to ensure Midori's cultural background comes out in the way she uses language)

Here's a great video on language and how we use it (and specifically about how we deconstruct language to come to understanding): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F9zfCMp99-A

Anyone got ideas as to if it should be a feat/language/skill to control my bottled slimes, or should we Avalon it, since they're essentially summons?

male Jabberwocky Like this but chibi and not scary mount

Blurple is the combination of black and purple that Lewis is.

male Jabberwocky Like this but chibi and not scary mount

...
I didn't see that she had dropped it...
What happens when it's gone?...

male human monk 16

can someone help out here (its been a while,) what spell was dropped?

Lewis was getting tired, so Tarka used Retrograde(a champion ability that reverses damage and healing) so he could keep going. So now the more he works himself, the better he feels. Now she dropped concentration on it and I'm not sure what should/will happen.

M Extrodinaraly Contrary Meatbag Fourm pyromancer 1

You start getting tired again.

Retrograde.
It prevented Louis from gettign tired, and actually made him feel better the harder he worked.

male human monk 16

Oh, Champion stuff...

yeah ...ok..

It's just a spell, really. :(

Male Weremonkey Rogue/Ranger/Trickster

That's a Madness ability? Interesting...

male goo dragon alchemist 16(spellhammer) / synthesist 16

Anyone got an idea what average cmd here is? I sunk a quarter of my feats into it and mine's 46.

I'll check my characters, give me a minute

Kodjack's is 43 without anything dedicated to it, though that's really due to him being a physical character.

male goo dragon alchemist 16(spellhammer) / synthesist 16

That I understand, but I'm making a grappler out of a summoner-alchemist. :/

Shadow Lodge

Male. Vaguely humanoid Ninja 3/Bard 1/Ranger 2/Scholar 1

Arthur's is 32 in suit, 28outside suit, +2 vs constructs either way
Grim's is 31
Dave's is 30
If you want cmb tell me and I'll run the numbers for them

Doesn't stack up too bad, then.

hmm well then you should try boosting your Str, or going monk or a full BAB class instead of one of your classes or maybe get some CMB/CMD boostin gear

First off, bladed scarves and spiked vests, useful

2 of them are level 11

(Grim has a BAB of 10, Arthur has a BAB of 11)

male goo dragon alchemist 16(spellhammer) / synthesist 16

I'm not changing anything.

It's just his main trick other than versatility, is grapple.

Outside of that, he's kind of like if Ace was an Eidolon. Once he gets it down, he can be any eidolon build up to lv. 16 minus the feats.
He also uses some poisons and of course formulae. I don't think he'll use the mutagen much.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Lang is 39 but it jumps to 48 in avatar state

Mel is only a 24. much lower vs grapple if he's cute

Male Firebird Monk (Master of Many Styles, Martial Artist) 16 // Firebender 8/Earthbender 8

Ardiente can get up to 61 CMD (63 vs. grapple), but he's a grapple-oriented monk, he's also very defensively focused, he doesn't have a superb CMB, but if he /gets/ a grapple, he keeps it. ;D

While I love the way that you get her cultural background to show through her language, I am often confused by all the -chan's and -san's and -samalamadingdong's. ;) When reading Midori, I sometimes feel like I have gotten lost in an anime movie.

Male Drow (noble) 14 Ranger

When ever I read a Midori post, I hear Noriko Tanaka's voice.

Afraid this is only gonna get worse....Kitty isn't so bad because she managed to 'westernize' her speech a lot before she ever got any screen time, but with Nanami taking over as PE teacher there's likely to be more honorifics to wade through.

Gonna work on getting game updated now. Meant to do it yesterday, but between the hell of 'helping' (translation: doing for) kidlet with science fair (or as he says, science unfair) project, the inevitable weekend errands, and my cold taking a turn for the worse I ended up too messed up from cold meds to do much other than go to bed last night. So I'll be working on updates in between rounds of washing dishes and cleaning up from the past week of total mess throughout the house...not to mention the what feels like hundreds of projects that just have to be done this week. Bleh. This is not a break. :/

here is a good science fair project...

So on that data line I'd be an outlier then

Is there any chance we can speed up the wrapping up of the night? My brother asks me almost once a week if its Monday yet, as he really wants to bring in his teacher.

I know Tybalt has to have a "meeting" which hopefully won't get delayed any longer, and Kuros needs a wrap, but is there anything else holding us up??

There are other things that have to happen first. Sorry. I know people get impatient. I'm trying to wrap things up, even got a bit railroady already here, but I have a mental checklist of events that are going to happen at certain set times, and Fi has an event still coming up that she's been planning. And the Kuros wrap-up may take a bit longer, although most of it is not necessarily dealt with in depth. Plus, there are other social interactions happening/going to happen. At least one at your request. We're moving forward, but I can't give you a set time for wrap-up yet.

Mel:
This was planned since well before Mel had planned her concert and honestly shouldn't take away anything from that future event...it's just what she would do. After all, she's been the voice of the resistance (small r cause we're strictly talking firebird politics now) for some time and it would be weird not to get any reaction out of her....and reactions from Fi happen in song generally speaking. You'll understand better I think with Fi's own words.

Edit: If he's that impatient just have him have his teacher show up 'early'. Most of the events are in the people reacting to them stage rather than more stuff actually happening. It's reactions I need to give time for. It's already evening so that may make it easier for him.

Kodjack, I posted your cue.

Sorry for not replying to this earlier. I think it's one of those things that really doesn't matter much which way you handle it as long as you use that method consistently. So from my perspective, just pick which way you like best.

The railroad is cool with me. Don't really have the time to post like I would like so I think I will avoid anything important for a while.

Yes, and have access to the nanites that render the virus non-infectious. Aananda would send anyone going after the train with some to use to clean out the train and any area surrounding it.

male goo dragon alchemist 16(spellhammer) / synthesist 16

I'll let chance decide.
The post says:
Feat 1-33
Language 34-66
Skill 67-99
Just an Avalon thing 100
1d100 ⇒ 48

male goo dragon alchemist 16(spellhammer) / synthesist 16

Language.
Of course it's the most fluff complicated...
At least I don't have to make a check for it.
Oozes don't really have the mental faculty to doubt something telling them what to do.
Oozes are low level telepathic, aren't they? That's what the ones that communicate say.

Why not just keep it simple and say you can vibrate in a harmonic frequency that allows them to hear you, I.e. there's yer language, Muad'Dib-o-goo. Instead of worms, it's goo. And your eyes will be green instead of white, etc etc.

Why did Lois pass out?

It doesn't catch up with him instantly.

He's just capable of feeling tired again- all that work he did isn't a problem.

Gonna assume player went for dramatic choice versus RAI. Theater!

Why not just roll with his choice, must we question everything? ;)
