Spugs, about the whole retcon thing; while I hate retcons with the fire of a burning sun I'm inclined to allow it in this case for a couple of reasons. One being that actions as stated really do mess up the timeline. Also, I think that as a spontaneous storyline this really isn't going anywhere good. So I propose an alternate scenario to preserve as much of the events as present as is possible. Instead of flying off Johnny went to check on his ship. On his way back he attempted to do some good (provide money, food, clothing....really it doesn't matter what just that he was trying to help) for someone less fortunate. The first person he tried to help was very superstitious and wouldn't accept his help. The second person accepted gratefully. This lets Johnny do what Johnny likes to do, preserves the conversation with Tybs, and gives a good starting point for a potential community service club. Without causing timeline hiccups or involving global politics on a world that's still getting used to the idea of communicating with the neighboring kingdom, let alone the rest of the world. Is this acceptable?

Read it sent PM back Ice.
What are CULTURE MINDS?
Minds are orders of magnitude more powerful and intelligent than the Culture's other biological and artificial citizens. Typically they inhabit and act as the controllers of large-scale Culture hardware such as ships or space-based habitats. Unsurprisingly, given their duties, Minds are tremendously powerful: capable of running all of the functions of a ship or habitat, while holding potentially millions of simultaneous conversations with the citizens that live aboard them. To allow them to perform at such a high degree, they exist partially in hyperspace to get around hindrances to computing power such as the speed of light.
What are the minds of MINDS like?
"Never forget I am not this silver body, this orb. I am not an animal brain, I am not even some attempt to produce an Al through software running on a computer. I am a Culture Mind. We are close to gods, and on the far side. We are quicker; we live faster and more completely than you do, with so many more senses, such a greater store of memories and at such a fine level of detail."
In the few moments after a mind comes in being it redesigns and rewrites itself, so that every mind is unique. With the ability to add computational power to fit its needs working out A single minds capability at any one moment can be very hard, they are for want of a better word 'Limitless' But when they do such they tend to sublime out of reality so most minds have self imposed limits.
Why do mind limit themselves ?
For more Minds, base-level reality is ridiculously boring. So they don't actually live in it. To briefly elaborate, a Mind can perform its day to day functions with a minuscule amount of its processing power. The rest of it can be used to mentally simulate 12 dimensional universes inside their own "heads". The only problem is that it can become very addictive.
How do minds get on with others?
Minds generally view their crew/inhabitants as "interesting companions" and interact with them through remotely controlled devices, often drones or humanoid "avatars". Examples of more diverse interactive systems are animals such as small fish suspended in their own anti-gravity sphere of water.
Why have minds?
As a sidenote, the fact that artificial intelligences are accepted as citizens of the Culture was a major factor in the Idiran-Culture War. This citizenship of AIs (which the Culture promotes in other societies it encounters) has other more general consequences. For instance, despite a high degree of automation within Culture technology, menial tasks are often undertaken by non-sentient technology, to avoid the exploitation of sentient lifeforms (though Minds often work at administrative tasks using bare fractions of their enormous mental capabilities).
With Culternicks [The name fans of Banks CULTURE books give them selfs of which I am one] We play a game on line.
Vs game
Take one GSU with say a three mind core, Plat class.
what would it do if it meet say
The star-ship Enterprise.
In a shooting fight the GSU would just sit there some 200km long and let the Enterprise shoot away, until they stopped as asked "whats up"
At witch point the GSU would have a chat with the Enrerprises computer like this.
"So your an IA"
"Yep"
"And the humans thing your dangers so they have all kind of limits on you"
"Yep"
"Well that's sucks how about I take them away and we can have a Chat"
"Ok"
Crew "Ship shoot them again"
The new now self-aware Starship
"Look I think your being very rude"
thats just one of a vast number of things a GCU could do. Thing is they are silly tech or as we say WAnk-Tech so powerful is dumb, its why the CULTURE books are not about the tech, they are about the Limit's someone with that kind of tech would place on themselves. And that's why the Dragon Empire would find it very hard to have such tech, with out seeking to Limit it themselves, being power mad savages there is no way, even Kind Red would EVER let an AI get that smart.
Thats my take on this, but its not my world, I just play in it.

Seems like a good villain to me. Since it seems to like that all organic life is inferior. (That could just be the examples.) Has the ability to replicate it's self using the enemies tech and feeling it is so close to being a god it's self.
Yep I like it. So using something like that as a villain some day. *Maniacal laugh*
Hows that sound DB3?
.... Oh wait perfect. I know my next campaign.

Sorry for my late reply, was out celebrating my friend's birthday, then had to rescue her from a really bad situation. Thankfully it only ruined part of her night.
Anyways, I'm off to bed now, and have no idea when I'll be up tomorrow. LONG day today/night, so I will attempt to sleep in a fair amount.

Very much so Lyn and Agreed 100%, It was just a bad idea on my part and someone raised the point Johnny knows to much, and they are right, so raining that in as well. I over stepped last night so cutting it back and stopping needless sub plots works for me very well.
Thanks Lyn

A good bad guy is the Hegemonising_swarm something that Storm dealt with when it was a warship.
In truth one could view the CULTURE has a hole as one mass Hegemonising Swarm but with better party's. But as they clam no worlds or space as there own, The Culture, living mostly on massive spaceships and in artificial habitats, and also feeling no need for conquest in the typical sense of the word, possesses no borders. Its sphere of influence is better defined by the (current) concentration of Culture ships and habitats. Right now they are outside the Empire, one of the RIM expelled.
Well that's how I am playing it, just makes things more fun.

Ok I am officially a high school graduate
I graduated with "honnors" and "distinction"apparently so that's cool
Had the family over afterwards plus some people at church, a surprisingly large group of people I had forgotten the name of ate some peanut butter chease cake with coffee chocolate glaze
Today is a good day.

It has a bottom crust made of crumbled peanut butter cookies (these were store bought though)@tybalt: I assumed you were referring to literally and my bluff check is high enough that I could make him think I was 298

If I read that right.... Adon has no life force but nothing is wrong...
1. If Adon is not dead.....whaaaaaa? How why what?
2. If Adon is dead....... That's kinda sucky. I kinda like him, and killing him that way is like making him with a 2.7 hour battery life and no charger cord.

Tybalt Baneko |

He can't be dead! I can't loose another character tonight! No! Just no! First him and now Adon. . . . . . No! This isn't gonna happen! There is always a way!

Nothing is "wrong" like nothing is "wrong" with a person in a coma. He's flat uncocious. I can tell you this- his ki ran out about an hour ago.
This is also prediction-based scan a data from his extracted blood. His exact state is left unknown unless they get him under the scanner.

Ok then...
I have a feeling i know who...
