Haha you have PCs in a Fantasy game where even the School cat is a warlock Good luck with not being funny.
Not having a go here but you got me thinking,
heres a simple 5 point indicator of a Mary Sue PC
Not saying Johnny is not one just its not that simple.
Fact is you could say THE CULTURE IS a Mary Sue world.
1
Mary Sues are just like you, only better.
As an example of sGelf-insertion, a Mary Sue will share more than a couple of your traits. Don't worry so much about gender, but when your name is similar to your main character's and you share certain aspects of wardrobe, habits or politics, you may be getting close to Mary Sue territory. Also beware of the tendency to make your main character just like you would be if, say, you lost those 20 pounds, were blond instead of redheaded or had that killer car you've been dreaming of.
[Johnny is nothing like me, Im an old fart with a family]
[Adon No Idea was you mum and dad mages? hehe]
2
Gary Stus stand out in a crowd.
Physical characteristics that are extreme for the fictional world or unheard of abilities (especially if described as such) point you square in the direction of a Gary Stu. Being the absolute best in a field gives the character little to strive for and can make a reader feel inadequate or irritated at Mr. Perfect.
[Mr/Mrs Perfect that is what Johnny is, but hes been 'MADE' that way, a made "Godling' if he becomes Dragon hes unmade, he now knows this and is a willing participant.]
[Adon - Takes out all magic in school, sucks up magic, gos mad when loses best mate]
angsty
3
Mary Sues often have tragic backgrounds.
Revenge and loneliness are powerful motivators, and some writers are adept at using these to great advantage. In the hands of a novice, the tendency can be to over-amplify those harsh beginnings; not only was Mary the sole survivor of a devastating tragedy as a child, but her foster family mistreated her and she is destined to carry on some secret ancient tradition with only the talisman around her neck as a guide; it's too much. If you must start from tragedy, intersperse some lighter moments as well.
[Nope Johnny is not the last of s/he kind, hes not tragic in any why, its not himself he feels sorry for at all.]
[Adon OOoooo talk about tragic background - Magic note]
4
Mary Sue
Gary Stus always win and never learn.
Mary Sues
Something that makes a character interesting is his flaws. Without them he is wooden and two-dimensional. Even with superheroes, often it is pride, vanity or ego that get in the way. Allow Gary to experience loss and learn from it and he will stop being a cliché and start being a character. Gary shouldn't get all the good lines, either. Let your supporting cast have a zinger or two; give them a chance to shine along with the hero. It will do everyone some good.
[I have said this more than once, Johnny is a lover not a fighter, This idea of Johnny is/hes and enableangstyr nothing more, is only been around two days yes yet to have time to lose anything, Ill let others do tragic background]
[Adon good this why I think]
5
Mary Sues can be angsty too.
With her exceptionally tragic youth, she's got a right to be a bit morose. The tendency here Mary Sueis to make Mary so very unlucky and so very put-upon that nothing ever goes her way; she is hated and reviled, and yet she still steals the spotlight from everyone around her. While it is very human to have a run of bad luck, it is pushing it to be unrelieved and for your character to wallow incessantly. Revenge plots may be fueled by a Mary Sue of this order, and frequently, there are issues of misplaced guilt thrown in for good measure.
[Johnny is the luckiest SOB around, thats the point, he/s to good to be true]
[Adon yerrr angsty is the word]
See cuts both ways

Realizing he sounded like an ass he winced.. "I'm sorry melody... I was thinking.... I don't think someone is after you... Why would he tell you? It doesn't make any sense.... We will make a great band... As long as you want to...."Renkai holds her tight against him... Then has to pull a knife out of his waist band where it was digging into his hip... "sorry l
Don't wanna say it, don't wanna say it.
Agh!Is that a knife in your pocket or are you just happy to see me. ;)

If the number of people who want you dead is even comperable to the ones who don't there is a problem, only one person can want you dead and can be a problem, because they are usually more enthusiastic than the ones who don't.
In any case it was mostly a joke

I think i took that test and i don't believe the results ... some how lang scored a 36 which is pretty bad so either the test is screwy or i really answered some stuff wrong.

If something is commonplace in your universe, do not apply it.

I ran Salis through the test and got 38 and that's going based off him in his home world. So I'm going to have to say it's a little off.

Hey guys keep it friendly please. Lyn doesn't need to deal with our issues with each other.
Adon Derro
Adon- 20.
I don't even care anymore. Maybe I should tape the mighty template on adon cause he's not a good enough fighter. I mean really, jhonny fixes everyone's problems, hands out buffs, is perfect in every way, has one weakness- cant be magically healed, witch is mitigated by storm, can turn into a dragon, has stats he didn't even work for, and is pretty much a god, capable of taking a large portion of the teachers in a fight.
Roel
The point is: what does it matter? Is Johnny's play affecting you in any way?
Probably not.
Roel. My gosh, roel. He fixed the problem I wanted to role play for so much longer. I couldn't deny it, roel loved the fix. I hated it. 1/2 his problem that made him intersting is gone, and the history issue will be fixed soon too, thanks to storm's influence.
Tybalt Baneko
Last Mary Sue test I took for Tyb was a twenty something. This time got a nine.

Oh, the culture? Marysuetopia. No idea how that idea got places, personally. A book about perfect beings. How fun. Feh.
And thats the point icehawk333, Banks himself said the same thing,
its why most of the books are not set In the Culture but around it.If Johnny IS affecting play, I am more than happy to remove s/he
and Storm, But I could make clear, storm is limited, one good hit with a fire ball and storm is toast. It knows it and has chosen to be that way.
Look I am not having a go ok

But that whole point is about combat, Ill say again, Johnny dos not fight, s/he never killed any thing in s/he life and I think never will,
The schools not had an invasion again of bad things, but the point is Johnny will run over fight every time, Its not a fear thing is a Moral thing, Johnny goodness, he power has a massive weakness of Moral oblation, I keep saying this, its what IN S/HE mind that matters more.
"Also taking out teachers" Come on, 1: Johnny just would not try ever and 2: not a chance in hell.
Look from johnny's point of view hes surrounded by a bunch of sociopaths primitives who only see killing and fighting as a way to get any thing done. Kill or be Killed as a justification to every thing.
Hope that helps

I mean power on an individual basis.
I don't even know why I'm still up.
And just forget about all of this. I'm just gong to revert my emotions to standard.
Tybalt Baneko
You don't need to take J out Spug. Just maybe lay off the fixing people's problems so fast? I know you mean well its just kinda anticlimactic when it gets fixed so quick. I am fine it hasn't done much to me. Mostly just Ice's people now that I think about it.:/
Johnny Panic
Yep I think both you and Adon do have a real point there, I'm going to do just that from here on in, I see now its impacting on others play and that's not good or what I want.
Things will change

I feel like I'm telling you to stop doing something I know you like and I don't want to do that either. :/ its not that you need to stopping giving things to people just maybe make them slightly less helpful? If that makes sense? I like that you are being cool and generous and stuff I don't really know a better way to phrase this. :/
Johnny Panic
Cool think to stay in game that's the wag ill have to play it, or johnnys kindness will stump game points. I think he can say do more over wave the tech-o wand to fix things. I see tpyour point on that guys and its a giod one johnnys will be more fun to play, that way.

had a lovely dinner with the family...hummus and lamb at my favorite middle eastern restaurant.
cleaned out the fridge of the depressingly massive amount of expired food that was taking up valuable space and generally being gross. some of that stuff was two and three years old. *shudder*
went grocery shopping to get non-expired food.
came home, put away groceries, threw in a load of laundry, kissed the kidlet goodnight, and decided to check up on the game thread.

Okay, so now that I'm distracted by irish cream hot cocoa, is this still a problem that needs intervention, or did you guys manage to solve this on your own?
"Ace"
Ace joins that party too..
Can do whatever can be done, by himself, no matter what. And uses moi like candy from redhat
Didn't we settle this nonsense quite awhile ago? Yes, Ace can do a lot on his own, but about the only thing he truly excels at are skill checks.
And for the record? The only problem Ace has solved on his own was Ginni's curse. AND GUESS WHAT??
I got Lyn's permission first, and asked her if there was a problem that we might cure Ginni with relative ease, and she gave me the OK.
Also, Ace was approved by Lyn, and there is a storyline reason, yet to be revealed, but known to Lyn, myself and DB3 as to why he is so good at so much.
Oh and the MoI? Yea, that's straight out the Factotum class, which I've said before.
Just like the three base classes from Book of Nine Swords, the Factotum's Inspiration points refresh every encounter.
I call them Moments of Inspiration though, because he also a semi similar resource from Taskshaper called Moments of Change.
"Ace"
Yea, maybe when one player is complaining about one of his character's ineptitude and how super uber badass another PC is, which therefore makes his character seem even more inadequate, you shouldn't lump another PC in there, unless you feel the exact same way.
Which is precisely how that came across to me. Not that any of your PCs are seemingly useless, but that Ace is super, uber badass and makes other PCs inept and such.
@DB3,
