"I fear your desire for direct discourse shall still be met with no answers."

"Tis not ours to reason why?"

Tempest surveys his new surroundings, he searches for a job he will enjoy. perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20Looking for some non menial work that requires something besides brute strength.

Okay, quick description of tent and those inside...

The large canvas pavilion is easily forty feet on a side. The draped roof held aloft with sturdy poles. The floor strewn with a thick layer of straw and hay keeps the ground clean and seems changed often enough that it is still crisp under foot/boot. Around the edges of the space are stacked yet more bales, both to replenish the floor for cleaning as well as to act as baffles and wind breaks to keep the interior of the place protected from the any weather outside.

At one end a table is set for those in charge to arrange themselves behind, while other trestle tables run length-ways from there for those gathered to sit at and partake in any meetings.

Currently only a hand full or people occupy the space. Two of note given their dress and demeanor. Both appear to be Captains, though one is of mature years, the other a seasoned salt though his age is closer to mot of the party's. Here and there 'average' working class men and woman sit and chat quietly.

At Plik's introduction the older gentleman stands, offering a smile.

"Aye! Come up to the front and ask away there!" He indicates a space closer to himself at one of the tables. The people settled about watch you new comers with interest, though their demeanor's remain neutral none seems hostile. They also do not seem bored, either.

Navarro swaggered up to the table indicated.
"So," He said, slouching a little and with his left arm resting on the pommel of his rapier.
He tipped his hat back slowly.
"What's the job?"

Plik gives the others an incredulous sidelong glance before approaching the table. He drops his bulging pack next to Navarro and climbs up upon it. "Not movin until someone tells me what I'm doing. Curse me or admire my sass, all the same to me...."

Male Half-orc

Constantine takes in the gathering place and wonders about the reasoning for the secrecy.

"I am almost certain the best way to know what is going on is for those who know to explain it from start to finish to those of us who do not know."

Constantine recalls the trial of silence that many cultures use to let the intruder or stranger and the silence force the one speaking to condemn him or herself....it was part of his inquisitor training among other things....

He looks around to see if bowls of fruit are on the table, he then takes a couple of apples and sits down to listen.......

There are indeed platters of cold meats, cheese, crackers (Fresh ship's biscuits) and slices of fruit (Mainly appels) arraigned upon the large tables in the center of the pavilion.

Those already assembled watch you new comers neutrally. One rather rough and robust looking lass folding her arms and possibly not seeming impressed by such 'City folk'. (That's your cue, Rokea ^^ )

The gentleman who called you greetings stands and walks slowly around the head table, his gait that of one who's come off the worse in some previous altercation as his prosthetic leg clumps softly under his weight.

"Indeed! Indeed!" He smiles and bids you make yourselves comfortable.

"As you may or may not know, there were a group of adventurers who's fame and fortune was made in the defeat of a great evil which threatened to rise again within the world. Thanking the gods and fortune that they were successful and said evil was dispatched. Along the way they garnered much skill, knowledge and... fortunes..." The Captain smiles and winks, for captain he must surely be given his airs and bearings.

"So... As people are wont to do, their adventures over the time for settling down and establishing themselves arrived, with the great city of Magnamar the locus of their attentions.” He takes some slices of apple, cheese and crackers and sets himself up a small treat. Even as he rests himself upon the edge of the table

”Their interests have... grown.... along with, of course, other's interests with their endeavors. One does not grow strong without attracting the attention of others. Whether those who be envious or those who be wary.” The Captain shakes his head.

”Perhaps the dangers our past Heroes faced weren't as bad as human nature, hey? Many a painful lesson has such perfidity taught our patrons lessons in caution, guile and subterfuge.” He looks around at the more senior looking folks within the space.

”As those who've been in the alliance can attest, much is done by the Consortium to protect those who choose to make a living under their banner.” He chews thoughtfully for a moment letting yourselves think about his words.

”Now! Onto our tale.” He grins, ”As you've noticed, there's much of a shell game afoot. Boats moving here and there. Bundles and cargo moving first one way and then the other.” He chuckles,

”Why! Even the Chellish navy seems to have manage to lose a ship in all these games here abouts!” This last comment garnering chuckles and laughter from some of those assembled and the Captain looks around in feigned surprise.

”Now, t'is not for me to comment on what others have lost, no!” He shakes his head, ”But, needless to say, when Queen Illiosa's Revenge slips free of our little harbour, t'will be bound for distant waters away from all the hullabaloo that the Chellish navy is currently having all about the place.” He nods to one of the other figures who's settled on some of the hay bales in a corner of the pavilion.

”Now, there's also the two great ships that the Consortium has constructed. Masterful pieces of Gnomish engineering they are, and make no mistake about that! However, war-ships they aren't. Oh, they'll hold their own... No mistake about that! Their majestic size puts them in good steed, indeed it does! They’re not weapons of war, however, but weapons of commerce!” He nods again.

That's the Consortium's plan. Take the Golden Rose, escorted by the Queen,” He nods to the a-fore mentioned fellow Captain, ”The Coral Mystery,” He nods to a second figure, ”... And The Wandering Dubloon.” Here he nods to a fellow who seems to have been particularly eyeing you new comers.

”A convoy of ships all packed to the railing with trade goods down into the rich ports of Kaava and beyond!” He makes a sweeping gesture. ”There! Once we've turned cargo into profit, you can either take your share or stay the course as we again fill our holds with all the sugars, spices, rare timbers and other exotic wares the dark South has to offer! The better to make a fortune when we bring the bounty back home.” He watches your reactions, as do most of those around the space who are already obviously 'On board' with the coming plans.

”Ahhhhh! I see the way you're thinking. 'Why two ships like the Golden Rose?'.” He grins again, ”T'is more of the Consortium's shell games. [b]”The Golden Lilly will be setting sail a week after our convoy, with false messages of where she's bound. She'll be on her own and hence rigged more to defending herself than turning a profit. But! When she pulls into the docks in Northern Linnorn, word will spread and any enemies of the Consortium will again be looking in completely the wrong direction.” He claps his hands.

”So! There's the short of it!” he helps himself to another snack. ”Any quick questions? Thence, we can sort yourselves out with which escort you'll be serving on and you can get to know your Captain and what t'is you'll be doing.” (^_^)

"hmph. I have to travel with these... surface dwellers? Barely able to paddle in the great oceans? Fine. So question. What ship. What captain? Or do we simply point and swim...er... walk? "

The woman unfolded her arms. Now more clear as what she looks like. Scars are all over her body. Some seem to be from man made implements, some seem more... natural. Her arms. Legs and even her face. All have scars. Her skin seems very pale. Even to human standards. One can see she is muscular. Her eyes are greyish. She has long black hair. In contrast to her skin. Her clothing seems torn and ragged. Almost as if she was a cast-away who just returned. She did not even have any form of shoes on. Barefoot.

Ticking off the points on his fingers, Navarro asked:
"Is the compensation the same for different jobs?"
"Do we need to secure special equipment or clothing?"

Running out of questions, he snagged some apples and cheese.

Plik hops down from his perch. "Naw. Good enough.. no questions from me."
He snatches a few slices of cold meat, tears them into strips and flops them into his maw.
He smirks at Rokea speaking her mind... "Ha. Lumped in as a surface dweller."

"Indeed I was well aware of the shell game, but what was I selected to do? Which ship will I be on, who will be with me, and whose orders will I be accepting?"
