The mayor can't hide a smile at Farfadet's enthusiam. There must be more to this gnome than meets the eye, why did the auguries identify him?
To Vors: That's a smart idea... Oleg's is a very minor outpost, I imagine he buys furs from locals and restocks basic supplies... Far below my concern. The guard's quartermaster might know more about his trading arrangements. I have heard that Oleg's shipments have dropped off recently and he has been requesting additional aid against bandits. Hmm.... We need you mobile, can't afford to have you stuck nursemaiding a scared trader and his family. I'll see if I can find a warrior or two past their prime who would be interested in a showing the colors type posting to the trading post. But don't wait for me to find someone, we need you there and I don't know how long it will take to find someone."

Vors Falchen |

Vors nods. "Of course, Lord Mayor. Perhaps that is the very cover we - or at least I - might use. That is to say, there is a young woman who will be very put out by my prolonged absence. I will find a way to explain without breaking confidence, my Lord."
Vors pats Farfadet on the shoulder, sharing in the gnome's enthusiasm, as he looks to Asha and Ardainn for their reactions.

Ardainn Jadanas |

Ardainn gratefully accepts Asha's invitation to spend the night in the inn. While he has grown accustomed to sleeping out, and is generally inclined not to trust places managed by humans, he finds his anger dulled in the company of these. They are not the same as the foul creatures who attacked his party coming north. They are decent, almost elfin craetures.
He reads the charter several times, smiling.
"'The rope and the sword,' better than they deserve," he mutters to himself, then looks up and gives a curt nod to the mayor. "Yes, I find the charter acceptable."

Asha Medvyed |

Asha wakes early and goes through her morning routine. After getting dressed she cleans up the room to make the job easier on whoever tends the room. Going outside the cold nips at her, but nothing she can't handle. She finds her way to the temple of Erastil that Theodric had mentioned to offer her daily prayers and prepare for the day. Up before most of the other guests she grabs a light breakfast and chats with Iakob and sees if there is anything she can do to help them for the day ahead.
------
At the mayors office she listens intently, as the charter is mentioned she nods to herself "So the rumors were true. As Farfadet jumps to accept the offer and Vors agrees she adds "I am glad Erastil sees fit to send us on this journey together. We shall tend to these lands and ensure they are fruitful for any who come behind us. Perhaps as we depart we should split up and leave at various times. Then meet again at a designated spot on the road? I should like to buy some gear for the trek, but otherwise can head out shortly after, maybe setup a small camp where we will meet?

Vors Falchen |

Vors blinks at Ardainn's cautious neutrality. Not my first choice in traveling companion, but we shall see what happens when steel meets steel.
He nods at Asha's words and offers, "That would be a good plan. There are likely many regular sites for those who use the road.
As aid for all, through my work I have a source for traveling gear, available at a discounted price. I am happy to help facilitate any purchases you all require before our departure. I know that I will be requesting additional rations, at least, if not other items as well."
Vors will take other interested characters to the quartermaster of the town guard, and secure the purchase of adventuring gear (not including weapons, armor, or mounts) at a 25% discount.

Farfadet |

"It looks like we're going on an adventure together! Quite fascinating, I'll say! Your idea is a good one Asha. As for preparations, I think I'm almost ready. I'm set with a week's worth of rations and feed for my horse. We will probably be able to buy more at Oleg's, I believe."

Vors Falchen |

Vors takes any others who are interested to the quartermaster of the guard, dodging conversation with the other young guardsmen when he enters. "Afternoon, Quartermaster. The captain said that you have an arrangement in place for me and my new friends here regarding the purchase of traveling gear, and I'd like to make a few requisitions. Also, I wonder if you might know about how often a trader goes out toward Oleg's Trading post. Any chance one is leaving soon for us to accompany?"
4 rations = -1.5 GP
-----Later that day-----
Vors meets Reinala for an early dinner before her performances start at the inn, and does his best to cautiously explain his coming absence.
"-?"
Well, it's actually a great opportunity - there are bounties for work like this, good pay for extending aid to those on the edges.
"--"
I don't think tha-
"--"
We have talked about this - there won't be an opening in the leadership of the guard for a long time. All the lieutenants are in their prime years, the captain isn't on the streets anymore, and knows The Lord Mayor well - his place is secure. I'm not quartermaster material, either.
"-?"
No, I have no interest in trying something else. What would I do?
"--"
You've seen what happens when I try to craft something. Picking up the sword always came more naturally than the saw or tongs.
"?!"
Reinala, please, I am not walking away from you. How could I?
"--"
It is not for that long! Two months of hunting and taking down bandits for bounties in the frontier, and I'll come back a wealthy man, with enough for us to-
"??"
Tomorrow. I leave tomorrow. Yes, I'm going to miss the festival. Duty waits on no celebrations.
"!!!"
Yes, duty. You know this of me! What am I without discipline? Without honor? Without duty? I would be just another braavo in the streets, looking to duel for the sake of dueling, not for the sake of Rostland.
"..."
Please, say something.
"??"
Yes, I'll come back.
"??"
I promise, I will return to be with you again. I have no desire to spend my whole life at a lonely outpost. Especially one without you.
"??"
Yes, they are sending others along with me.
"??"
Those you met last night? Acquaintances of The Lord Mayor's, it appears. I had not met them before yesterday. The elf is quite aloof, the gnome overly enthusiastic, and the woman a helpful sort, I suppose.
"??"
I don't know how long they will be here. You know the gnomes and elves - lives too long to know what to do with them. The woman is a priestess of Erastil - she seems to be looking for a community to call her own - one to tend and protect.
"--"
Yes, I suppose you must get ready. When do you begin?
"--"
Of course I'll be there. Let me only go finish preparing my things and arranging my quarters. There is likely another guard who would be interested in getting out of the barracks to rent his own room for a short time.
"--"
And I you. I'll be back before the show begins.
-----The next morning-----
Vors rises early, completes his morning calisthenics, cleans himself, and puts on his warmest clothes. He puts on his leather armor (instead of the heavier metal) picks up his things, takes a last look around the room, and walks out. He loads up the mule he has purchased for travel, and makes his way to the designated meeting point outside of town.

GM_Eric |

Afternoon of 21 Calistril:
At the Guard's Quartermaster:
As Vors mentioned, the QM can provide you with travel/journey/surveying gear at 25% -- doesn't include mounts, weapons, or armor.
"Well met Vors; looks like you've finally found the opportunity you've been looking for! Oleg's, eh? You probably saw him around town before. He only moved to the wilderness at the end of summer. Said he was tired of the politics around here. Gruff, stern, man; good eye for business and trade, but always forgetting who was in power and who was out of favor. Practically ruined his attempts at business here in the city.
"Hard to say how he's doing there. we got a flurry of furs and dyes from him in the fall, as he got established and as his locals cashed in, now that they had a closer market. A trickle over the winter. He's mainly ordering building supplies, cold weather gear, tents, rations, and the like. Some arrows. I expect business will pick up once spring arrives."
"Its normally a 4 day journey to Oleg's, by foot. Longer this time of year. Wouldn't be surprised if it takes you ten, what with the snow and poor conditions of the road. My factor, Roland, just let this morning. You'll probably catch up with him, what with his wagon and ancient oxen pulling it. We've heard that Oleg's been having a bit of a bandit problem, but they seem to be predictable, striking the first of the month. My factor is hoping to get there ahead of them to see what he can purchase before its all stolen again. Though I don't think the bandits will react kindly to that ploy. Glad to hear that you'll be in the area."
He gives you a quickly scrawled and signed note to present to Roland as an introduction.
Farfadet gets another day of crafting in.
Morning of 22 Calistril:
You've met up on the road a few miles outside of Restov at your appointed location and begun your journey. The road for the first couple of miles was swept clear of snow, but soon thereafter it becomes a slow mix of frozen mud and snow. You see wagon tracks carved into the frozen surface. The days are short, but the sun has been bright and snow glare leaves you seeing spots throughout the afternoon if you don't take precautions.
You can get a day of crafting in while riding, but due to the poor working conditions you'd be obvious in using magic to assist. Would use up prestidigitation, and countless uses of mending. Same will apply for all the days of the journey.
24 Calistril:
Dawn of your third day, seems much the same as the first two. Progress has been slow, but not treacherous. You're starting to get out of the farmed lands and into what's more of a buffer region -- still claimed by Brevoy, but not actively worked. You think you see Roland's wagon in the distance, you might catch him today. By mid-afternoon you've caught up with Roland and you see clouds gathering, you feel a large storm is coming.
The land feels normal for an uncultivated plain in the dead of winter. There are some creatures out and about. You could supplement the parties food supply. DC 12 survival check. Days of food found = (check-12)/2

Farfadet |

Farfadet gets his horse ready and saddled, covers himself in a different outfit for the cold weather in the wilds, and is ready to depart. His enthusiasm is brighter than ever in this instant, considering the myriad of possibilities and fate that await him and his newfound companions in the months to come. Only one regret marrs this moment, adorning Farfadet's brow with a frown for a moment, then it disappears.
Too bad I can't attend the festival... Well, that's a reason to come back for!
Meeting Vors, Asha and Ardainn at the appointed location, Farfadet greets them merrily. With his chapka, his furs and his poncho, the gnomes is almost completely covered by the warm clothing, yet a tuft of red hair makes his quite recognizable.
As they travel, Farfadet can't help but comment on various things he knows - or doesn't - such as plants, trees, far mountain ranges, whether fey love ice skating or not, and so on... The babble does stop eventually, the gnome understanding all too well some of his companions' need for quiet in the wilds, the pleasure of simply losing oneself in the silent contemplation of chilly Brevoy's somptuous landscapes.
In the evenings, Farfadet helps all he can with setting up the camp for the night. Despite his frail build, the gnome proves useful with his small size and nimble hands when it comes to building the tents. His gnomish senses are invaluable when it comes to tasting the meals. Legend has it that the gnomes are particularly keen on their sense of smell because of their large nose, but Farfadet soon proves this belief wrong for the three companions who now share his daily life. Not only isn't the gnome's nose wide and large, but all his senses appear to be be acute - not only smell. It does seem that this affinity relies more on his way of perceiving the words through all his senses rather than just sight and hearing.
Often does Farfadet spend some time sewing a green outfit after eating, once everything becomes quiet, when the falling snow's silence snuffs out sounds of all kinds.
In other words, I'll get the day of crafting before departure for now, the rest depends on your decision, but I don't have prestidigitation yet.

Vors Falchen |

"Very good, we'll catch up with Roland as quick as we can. Hopefully, he will not think us bandits!" Vors makes his purchase, waits for the others, and leaves.
---
24 Calistril
"Greetings, Roland!" Vors yells through the snow as they close on the trader. "Hello, there! I am a friend of the Quartermaster's and we would accompany you to Oleg's!" Vors steps as quickly as he can to close the distance as the storm prepares to roll in.

GM_Eric |

You catch up with Roland, he's wrapped tight in furs and nestled inside the overhang of his wagon. He's started by your presence, but calms visibly at the mention of the quartermaster.
"Damn frozen roads and more snow on the way. Not sure what I was thinking. Aye, I'd welcome company tonight and on the road, but you may be faster without me. With this storm I'll need to convert the wagon to a sled and that'll cost a day now."

Ardainn Jadanas |

Been a brutally busy weekend. Will be more present moving forward.
Not sure if you meant for me to make the roll each day, so disregard any rolls I shouldn't have made.
survival day 1: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
survival day 1: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
survival day 1: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Ardainn has been living on the road for some time now, and has little coin to purchase supplies beyond what he carries in his pack. As the group rides out, he shows that he has little need, using his crossbow to bring down several rabbits and gathering various roots and hardy greens. It is more than enough to feed the four of them a rich stew when they make camp that night.
Out of the town, he seems much less grim. During the day, most of his attention is on the land, as he keeps one eye out for danger and the other for forage, but when they make camp he is a bit more talkative, and he only scowls when bandits are mentioned.
When they catch up to Roland, he stays a little distant, peering into the storm.
"The road's dangerous," he says. "It might slow us down, but I wouldn't leave a man on his own out here if I could help it."

GM_Eric |

25 Calistril: Spent help Roland convert his wagon to a sledge and getting a half day of travel in.
26 Calistril: Full day of travel, temperature raising, snow is disappearing.
27 Calistril: Half day reconverting the sledge to a wagon, halfday travel
28 Calistril: Arrives at Oleg's midday
I think I have Oleg's map up as the default map for the roll20 site now. Please let me know if you can see it
You pull into Oleg's after a week on the road. Roland is very please to have arrived, safely without incident. The outpost consists of four buildings with a taller wooden curtain wall and towers surrounding. The towers are topped by catapults that look like they've seen better days. As you arrived, a young lady runs out of the most house-like building; you also see a rugged man up on top of buildings, repairing the roof.
"Welcome, welcome. I'm Svetlana Leveton, that's my husband Oleg up on the roof." She hands you each a warm meat pie; obviously she knew you were arriving soon. She glances up at Oleg. He grunts and keeps working.
"Don't mind him; we're glad to see you. Oh Roland! I didn't see you there. I'm sure Oleg will take care of your business after dinner. Surely you're not trying to start back tonight."
Addressing the four of you again: "Are you the guards we've requested? Or just travelers passing through?"

Asha Medvyed |

Asha follows Vors to the Quartermaster to take advantage of the discount. The only two things she grab is a cold weather outfit as she wasn't as well prepared for the cold and with a long trek ahead she prefered to be warm, and some additional rations. After they split she headed back to the inn and retrived her gear and set out on the road, her bow restrung. She finds her way to the meeting spot and begins to setup a small fire and wait for the others.
Survival: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Asha is relieved to see the outpost and gets a second wind after a long, cold journey. Being one of the first into the outpost she smiles as Svetlana comes out to greet them. She happily takes the pie to eat in a bit. "Thank you for the warm welcome. I wouldn't say we are guards but we are here to help you with your bandit problem as well as explore the area a bit." She looks to the others then back to Svetlana "Perhaps we can get settled and talk further?" Turning to Roland "Thank you for the company on the road! I hope your business here is fruitful." She waits for Svetlana to lead the way.

GM_Eric |

She gestures to the stables location a3 on the map and to the quest house a2. She looks a little uncertain and anxious with your committal answer.
"I can offer you free stabling and lodging for the tonight as thanks for escorting Roland. Oleg will complain, but maybe I can finally teach him to greet visitors." She adds conspiratorially. She leaves you to get settled in; you hear her yelling to, or maybe at, Oleg.
She returns with him, 15 minutes later. His face is still flushed with exertion; a sweat drench shirt steams slightly beneath a think fur cloak. He stomps in, plants his feet and crosses his arms. "What's this I hear about exploring? And where's our guards!" his voice, almost a growl. Svetlana touches his arm and whispers something, and he softens his stance, but still glowers, waiting for an answer.

Asha Medvyed |

Seeing Oleg is tired from his hard work Asha takes her holy symbol, holing it in one hand as she moves over to Oleg and gently touches him on the arm. "Hard work purifies the body and the soul." She smiles as she removes her hand.
Heal Non-Lethal: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
She steps back giving him a bit of room, hoping his mood is eased as he hopefully feels a bit better. "My companions and I have come to assist with your bandit problem as much as we can. After which we plan to explore the area and, at least for my part, bring the teachings of Erastil to this land. What can you tell us of these bandits?"

Vors Falchen |

Vors leads his mule into the stable while Svetlana fetches Oleg, lightening its load before coming back out to eat and join in conversation.
Vors follows Asha's lead. "Ideed. I am Vors Falchen, of the Restov Guard, and it is my duty to serve. I thank you for your hospitality. Lead on, and speak further of your need."

GM_Eric |

Both Svetlana and Oleg smile at Asha, and Oleg's demeanor softens.
He sighs and deflates a little. "We moved out here at the end of summer. Restov granted us title to the abandoned border fort that we've turned into the trading post. We got the few buildings you see patched up in time for winter and began trading with the local trappers and such. Work was hard, weather was cold, but we were starting to thrive." Svetlana looks a little skeptical of the last statement, but doesn't interject.
"Then they arrived, two months ago. Twenty bandits, led by a rough man and a cruel women. They took all the trade supplies we had, what money they could easily find, Svetlana's wedding ring. Threaten to remove my hand, and worse against her. They came again last month, this time only six of them and the man. We're expecting them again tomorrow morning. We're not equipped to fight back. If you can kill them, you'd have our thanks, and free room and board in our guest house for as long as your exploration needs."
He looks at you with a mix of challenge and hope.

Asha Medvyed |

Asha shakes her head in disapproval as Oleg tells his tale of the bandits ”Vile. It would be my honor to help you deal with the bandits. Although we may need to kill them, perhaps they would be open to talk instead, especially if their numbers are dwindled any further. Of the bandits that came last time, what kind of weapons did they use? Were any trained in the arts of magic? The more info you can provide the better we can prepare.”

GM_Eric |

"The women appeared highly skilled with a pair of hand-axes. The man had a longsword and longbow. The rest had short swords and bows. The leaders were competent trackers. The rest appeared as simple crude bandits. Dirty, misfitting armor. Only held in line by fear of their leaders. None seemed capable of magic, all relied on strength and numbers. Don't know what'd they'd say that's worth listening to, death is what they deserve!"
Oleg turns towards Roland."Not sure what you were thinking, you heard they were coming, I know they could easily track you on these muddy or snow covered roads. You best wait here until these people deal with tomorrow's group, at least."
He turns back to you. "They tend to arrive shortly after dawn and walk right in, bold as you please. If we've closed the gates they threaten to burn us down and have lofted a few flaming arrows in to prove their point."

Asha Medvyed |

”This is good, thank you for the information! So if we can deal with the leader, then it is possible the others will surrender and repent. We don’t want any fire so perhaps closing the gate is not the best option, maybe instead we can setup an ambush?” She turns to Adriann ”Perhaps you can make sure our tracks are covered for a ways and then they would only suspect the wagon and not the rest of us.”
She looks to the others ”We hadn’t really discussed our skills in terms of combat. I am good with a bow and of course have the blessing to draw on small parts of Erastils’ divine power. If I can setup in a high spot with good vantage of the ambush site, and easy access to get to you all if the need arises, this would be my preference. What of the rest of you?”

Vors Falchen |

Vors points to the stable. "It would be best for me to wait there, then throw wide the door and engage in close quarters with my sword and shield." He walks over to the stable and tests the weight of the door, and how quickly it will open.
GM: Opening the door equals a move action? Or longer since it is more of a barn? Thanks!
Looking back at Ardainn, he adds, "Our swords together would cut these bandits down in short order."

Farfadet |

"Those ignominious thugs! We can't let that happen, of course. By my beard, we shall protect you." the gnome assures Oleg and his wife.
"I'm not a tactical genius, but I think drawing these bandits in the courtyard for an ambush is the best plan. I can use my magic to put them to sleep and thin their numbers, or even capture some of them. I'll need to have some kind of protection of course. I could join you Asha, and hope that they don't spot me - I'm not too tall, after all!"

GM_Eric |

Asha and Farfadet walk around the compound, checking out various vantage points. The four corner watch towers have great elevation, but the front two have poor cover in terms of visibility from the road. Asha would need to lie prone while waiting for bandits to avoid giving her position away. Farfadet is short enough, assuming he can keep his bright hair contained and hidden. The rear towers offer better concealment, but again Asha think's she'd have to hide behind one of the broken down catapults in order to not be spotted the instant the bandits walk in the door.
Using a ladder to get up onto the roofs of the various buildings, you find that the courtyard side of the guest house offers great concealment, as the peaked roof runs parallel to the front wall of the outpost, and allows a great sight line to the inner courtyard. The stable roof is not as good, as the peaked roof is parallel to the side wall. You 'd need to climb to the peak during the surprise round and then fire down. Neither the storage shed, nor the Leveton's house have spaces you'd consider ideal.
What's going to be your signal for starting the ambush?
DC 10 climb checks to move from hiding on the stables to the peak of the roof
-2 to attack, -2 to AC if perched on either of the peaked roof buildings.

Farfadet |

Farfadet puts his furry chapka on his head to cover his bright hair, and offers to lend his signal whistle to Vors in order to start the ambush. The gnome will indeed be hiding in the southwest corner tower. (Well, the bottom left one on the map, since I'm not sure where North is.

Vors Falchen |

Vors warms the whistle in his hands, gives it a test blast that can be heard throughout the the trading post. "Well, that'll do. Oleg, could you loudly say something when they are preoccupied with the goods? That will let us know it's time, and they'll be laden down."

GM_Eric |

Oleg nods, looking quite confident in your preparations.
Just waiting for Asha and Ardainn to give me their ambush locations

Asha Medvyed |

Asha assesses her options and promptly decides she doesn't want to worry about climbing about on a roof and trying to keep her balance. While laying down isn't an optimal start it is better than falling off a roof. "Farfadet, if you plan to occupy that tower I will get in the opposing one."
She will also spend some time knotting up her silk rope and tying it off at the top of the palisade she will be on, coiling it up so she can easily drop it and climb down quickly if the need arises. She will only take her bow and holy symbol with her to the palisade, leaving the rest of her gear stowed somewhere safe. As she makes her final preparations she will ask Oleg and the others ”Do you have any spare weapons I could use if the need arises? I don’t desire to do so, but it is better to be prepared.”

Farfadet |

"That tower seems fine. As for weapons, I can lend you my dagger, but I'm afraid it will be too small for your human hands." adds Farfadet playfully.

Vors Falchen |

Vors chuckles as well, then goes into the stable to prepare his mule for the overnight before turning in himself.
In the morning, Vors performs his morning calisthenics, then equips his scale armor, his shield and longsword, and sets up in the stable for the bandits to arrive.
Ready!

Asha Medvyed |

Asha, finished with her preperations for the morning checks in with Svetlana and Oleg "Are you ok, ready for tomorrow?"

GM_Eric |

Oleg nods at Asha, "I have a club I can let you use." To Vors: "They're used to me bellowing; sounds like a good signal."
I'm going to bot Ardainn. He'll start with Vors. Whomever comes first in initiative will open the door, the other should be able to charge during the surprise round. he seems equally competent with ranged and melee, but I think his hatred of bandits will lead him to get up in their face
You finish your preparations and sit down to dinner and nights rest. You awake before dawn; its another clear, cold day, with a hint of snow in the air for later. You take up your positions and begin to wait.

GM_Eric |

Minutes pass, you see the hint of light starting to appear. Oleg is out and about, getting supplies in order for some more repairs, this time for the palisade. He's stacked some lumber near the gate and is using the outdoor tables as saw horses, as you hear horses approaching.
You see five crudely equipped men, leading six pack animals.
"Lets see what you got this time, Oleg. You better hope its enough, or we might take your lady." Oleg unlocks the storage shed, and when three of the bandits have their hands full and two are heading into the house he yells "Now stay away from her; you got your goods."
Vors: Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Asha: Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Farfadet: Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Ardainn: Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Happs: Initiative: 1d20 + 2 - 8 ⇒ (20) + 2 - 8 = 14
Bandit 1: Initiative: 1d20 + 4 - 8 ⇒ (18) + 4 - 8 = 14
Bandit 2: Initiative: 1d20 + 4 - 8 ⇒ (1) + 4 - 8 = -3
Bandit 3: Initiative: 1d20 + 4 - 8 ⇒ (3) + 4 - 8 = -1
Bandit 4: Initiative: 1d20 + 4 - 8 ⇒ (14) + 4 - 8 = 10

GM_Eric |

Surprise Round:
Ardainn, Vors, Farfadet, Asha
Forgot to roll for Oleg, but he'll be running for cover.
First round order: Ardainn, Vors, Bandit 1, Happs, Bandit 4, Farfadet, Asha, Bandit 3, Bandit 1
Bandit 1, 2 and Happs are between the courtyard and the storage shed. Bandit 3 & 4 are close to the door of the Leveton's house.
Ardainn forces the door open, yelling: "Death to you all". Hope I got him right
Please post your surprise round action/roll and your likely first round action & rolls. If things change drastically I'll wait for updates.

Ardainn Jadanas |

Ardainn wakes in the morning the bandits are expected. He pulls on his armor and sharpens his sword. He loads and cocks his crossbow and takes a position just behind the barracks. Just N of the NW square of building A2.

Ardainn Jadanas |

Assuming my change of position is acceptable
Surprise!
Stepping out from behind the corner of the building, Ardainn yells "Death to you all!" and fires his crossbow at the enemy.
attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
damage: 1d8 ⇒ 5
Round one
Having gotten their attention, he drops the bow, and draws his sword
as he stalks towards the leader (or if the leader is further than 30', whichever bandit I can reach) and slashes at him.
attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
crit confirm?: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
damage: 1d10 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Vors Falchen |

Surprise Round
Vors shoulders open the stable door wand gives the whistle a shrill blast. "Attack! he bellows.
Round 1
If the bandit Ardainn has slashed has not fallen, Vors will flank (+2 to Atk) and deliver a powerful blow. Otherwise, he will approach the closest bandit and strike hard.
Longsword, Power Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15 vs. Flat-Footed, Slashing: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

Asha Medvyed |

Surprise Round
Asha stands up, her bow in hand, she pulls an arrow from her quiver and takes a shot at one of the bandits going for the house as she yells "Surrender or perish!"
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 2
Will wait to post round one once more has happened sine I am near the end of Init

GM_Eric |

Ardainn pops from cover, firing off a bolt that skitters off the armor of the nearest bandit. Vors pushes open the stable door, emerging almost in the midst of the bandits. The bandits' surprise is almost comical; they appear utterly shocked that Oleg found anyone to stand up to them. As Asha's arrow arcs over the pair advancing on the house, they pull up and spin back to face; their eyes are darting around, searching for you.
I know Asha is out of order with Farfadet, but I don't think his action could affect yours. I will wait to resolve Ardainn and Vors at the top of the order, just in case

Farfadet |

Farfadet was as excited as a child. To mount against real bandits! This new life is full of surprises. Will they be surprised? I hope they will!

Farfadet begins calling upon arcane energies, the fey energies coursing through his body. Ardain charges in a strikes a powerful blow against the bandit leader. The bandit leader looks shaken, but knowing he can't show feat in front of his men, resolves to stand fast.
Vors maneuvers expertly into flanking position and scores another power hit. THe bandit leader looks in very bad shape.
The first bandit steps in to attack Vors with his short sword, setting up his leader to be able to flank.
Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
The blade strikes you solidly, but your armor holds.
However, Happs, looks around and see he has no clear way to bring his bow into play, snarls viciously and launches himself at Ardainn with his dagger.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 3 + 2 = 23Damage: 1d4 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 + 2 = 8
Happs smiles as his dagger drives deep into your torso. "Filthy elf!"
The fourth bandit, by the house, takes aim at Farfadet with his long bow, hoping to disrupt the spell in progress.
Attack: 1d20 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 - 2 = 1Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 8
The arrow strikes the palisade wall, feet away from Farfadet!
Farfadet finishes his spell.
Let me know which option you want -- you can target the two bandits off to one side, or the clump of three, but can't avoid also getting one of either Vors or Ardainn in the area of effect

Asha Medvyed |

Round 1
Seeing the two bandits that she had been targeting pass out and fall to the ground Asha brings her bow over toward the group of bandits Vors and Ardainn are fighting. She pulls out another arrow and aims for the man who recently jabbed his dagger into Ardainn.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9 +1 if within 30 ft
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 3 +1 if within 30 ft
Wow, guess I am getting all the bad rolls out of the way in the beginning.

Ardainn Jadanas |

Ardainn gasps in pain as the bandit stabs him deeply, and slashes back at him. "Filthy thief!"
Favored enemy: human gives +2 to hit and damage that I forgot last round. Shouldn't've made much difference, but I'm including it this round.
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Damage: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

The two bandits near the house are caught in your spell's effects. You see them getting very lethargic and starting to yawn.
will: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (17) - 1 = 16
will: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3
Both stumble to the ground, asleep.
Round 1: Its Asha's turn, then one of the awake bandits.
Round 2: Ardainn, Vors, Bandit 2, Happs, (bandit 4), Farfadet, Asha, (Bandit 3), Bandit 1
sleeping bandits are shown in parenthesis.
Rough battle field layout:
Happs is adjacent to Ardainn. Vors is 10 feet away from them, with Bandit 2 engaging him. Bandit 1 is close enough to engage either Ardainn or Vors, but can't reach a flanking position without triggering an AoO -- bandit 1 could reach his sleep ing allies to attempt to wake without triggering any AoO.

Asha's arrow thuds into the ground between the combatants, as the slowest bandit steps in to engage Vors, swing his short sword, while gesturing to his comrade to get behind you.
attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Narrowly missing Vors.
Ardainn's desperate attacks lands solidly and Happs drops to the ground, you see blood pooling underneath him.
