Tales from the City of Opal

Game Master Patrick Curtin

This is my homebrew world Arcaia. This particular setting is the free city of Opal, a lush equatorial city set on the edge of an immense jungle rife with undead , ancient civilizations, and dinosaurs.

Male Elf Paladin/Ranger 4/1

Izkrael will take up the next spot in line, curveblade drawn and in hand.

Elf Magus 5

"Once more unto the breach dear friends!" Murmurs Magnus with a smirk.

Sczarni

Female Human Oracle of the Heavens 6

Citlali's eyes seem to sharpen, almost as if she had followed along while not being entirely there. With a deep breath she adjusted her spear and crept forward.

Elf Magus 5

Magnus eyes the seeress quizzically, as if tempted to ask her a question. But he manages to hold his tongue, and follows San down the stairs, Rapier in hand.

He holds his inert Ioun torch in his free hand, ready to toss into the air for light the instant the fun starts,...

The party descends the stairway leading downward into the derelict ships hold. The darkness is absolute, with Selene not yet risen to cast its bright blue glow in the night sky

As they descend the damp wooden stairs, they get a sense of a large open space cloaked in darkness. A sound of rhythmic banging grows louder as they enter the ship's belly. A stench of rotting meat and a sussurus of fly wings gives testament to the foulness awaiting them

OK. Perceptions to those who want, also stealth checks please

Male Half-Elf Ranger 1 / Wizard (transmuter) 5

San peers into the gloom, the light spell on his sword hopefully providing some illumination.

Sans sword casts a swinging blue glow over the belly of the ship. The group can see a jumble of crates, barrels and sacks strewn about.

Behind the stairs a large form hulks

Read all checks you make

Dc 10 Perception :

Spoiler:
The large form is moving, slamming into the side of the hold

DC Perception 15 :

Spoiler:
The massive form is humanoid shaped, but not humanoid. It's shape is subtly wrong

DC Perception 20:

Spoiler:
The hulking form battering the wall seems to be hitting a door. The form looks to be made of rotted vegetation

DC Perception 25:

Spoiler:
The vegetation seems ... Wet somehow, like the leaves are dripping with liquid

Any idea what it is?

San:

Spoiler:
San has heard jungle explorers speak of the Xihuitl-timo, the 'plant that runs' , supposedly a large two-legged mass of vegetation that is able to move quickly and is very aggressive

Citlali's sleek form tenses, the twinkling starlight of her forcefield making her pale skin glow as she focuses on the creature before them.

From behind San, Magnus steps lightly as a feather, the warrior's bulk casting the slight elf into almost perfect shadow.

"Hm. It seems intent on knocking a hole in the side of the ship. Perhaps we might persuade it to stop?" He asks in a whisper, his voice tinged with gleeful laughter.

Group init? 1d20 ⇒ 8

That gives Magnus a 12 Init.

Oh yeah! Thx Vilya. I like that MUCH better! :) That makes Magnus go on a 24 then. :)

The large shambolic rotting compost beast stops striking the splintered door it was hammering on and turns to the party with a grunt. Felicia hurtles towards it, but her sword strike slides off its slimy hide. Egan has better luck, burying an arrow into its side. Kessel's bold voice fills the shadowed hold as San's bright sword swings up to illuminate the scene

San's arcane bolts fly into the creature, flashing brightly.

The slimy leaves of the creature crackle as the cold of the unbounded interstellar void permeates it. Several float down to the slimy planks of the hold's deck.

Iz's blade strikes the creature, opening a rent in it. A noxious cloud of yellow pollen-like dust erupts from the creature's wound. Those attempting to kill it directly are sprayed with this noxious cloud

"It's like attacking an oak tree with a knitting needle!" Magnus cries,

"Fortunately, Fire and lightning are not my only tricks!" he adds, an odd grin of devilish delight at the challenge.

The elvin Magus dances in and out, taunting the tree-thing to tag him. He lunges once, makes an intricate gesture with his empty hand, and his sword glows with a fierce blue radiance before he lunges again,...

Swift action, Magus Pool point, Add +1/Keen to weapon for 1 minute,(Rapier now a +2 Keen) first att normal, cast Frigid Touch

Spoiler:
This spell causes your hand to glow with a pale blue radiance. Your melee touch attack deals 4d6 points of cold damage and causes the target to be staggered for 1 round. If the attack is a critical hit, the target is staggered for 1 minute instead.
If second attack misses, charge will be held and used next round. :)

The spell is yes, BUT, the joys of using it with spellstrike, you gain an extra attack and the weapon dmg, but you have to hit AC. :)

Potion of Bull's Strength: Move action. Casts Divine Favor :Standard Action

Kessel continues his bard song (free action) then he casts guidance on Magnus (as he is in front of Kessel) giving the elf a +1 competence bonus on a single attack roll, saving throw, or skill check, but he must choose to use the bonus before making the roll to which it applies. The spell lasts one minute so he doesn't need to use it right away.
