Also initially confused over Lucetta's actions, Iacobus stifles a laugh over the juxtaposition of the slack faced slave standing in the oil with an open flame, oblivious to the dangers arround him.

"Yes, a little more distance would be nice."

Mechanically, there are some issues with this working, but for the sake of fun...

Torch in hand the slave walks into the oil soaked room. As before, the viscous mist seeps out from the holes on the floor and envelopes the hapless slave. it shies away from the open flame, but in the end it does not matter, as the slave shrieks in agony before falling dead. As planned, the torch rolls from the lifeless fingers of the corpse and after a few tense moments, its flickering flames ignite the oil. Flames flicker to life and begin to dance along the oil. Soon the heat backing off of the room is intense and in the low key inferno, the creature writhes and crisps and ultimately perishes.

Once the flames dies down, you enter the room, the smell of charred flesh filling your nostrils. Doors lead to the north and to the east. With no indication as to which way to head, you head north and open the elaborately barred door. Beyond, at the end of a short passage is another wooden door. Unsurprisingly the door is inscribed with yet another platitude: “Cruelty is a tool not a pastime. Be ruthless to thy enemy but reward those who serve thee well.”

There is only one thing in this room – a torturer’s rack. This cruel implement is functional and ready for use but currently empty. The chamber is lit by an oil lantern that hangs from the centre of the room. There is nothing else obvious here.

Shaken by the violent death of the slave Arthur reminds himself Better them than me, and moves on still carrying the torch as a weapon. "What do you think this means? Another riddle, a clue or just some writing," he asks before opening the door and taking in the room. He walks in, circles the rack looking for any thing of interest and finds nothing. "Is this just to remind us to be faithfull?" he wonders out aloud. Looking to the others he asks: "Would one of you take the torch so I can draw my blade again, I think it is of more use."

Ember gives an approving look to Lucetta, and follows the big one into the room. Not a pastime, but a tool. How often we forget about it… she muses as she walks over the torture hack and touches it tenderly ”I don’t think this should be used on any of us. There is no point in that. Maybe from your point of view, I may have some secret knowledge about this place, which I assure you I do not.” she look around and says ”So, why this is here?”

GM Fanguar: Thanks for handwaving mechanics in favour of narrative :D

Lucetta claps her hands in joy that the plan worked, and gleefully bounces down the corridor eager to take on the next challenge.

She frowns however as she surveys the torture device, less about the nature of the thing and more about the lack of hints on how to proceed.

Perhaps, as in other chambers, there are hidden doors here. I have little skill with detecting such things would you all kindly take a wall and check it out?

Ember finds a small hidden door on one wall. After Iacobus takes a minute to check for traps, you carefully open it.

Beyond it, you find small cubby. Inside cowers a young man in a bright tabard display the symbol of Mitra.

When you open the door, he cries out. "Oh sweet Mitra. Don't hurt me!"

And finally Iacobus keeps his symbol in a breast pocket over his heart sewn into the inside of his shirt. If he is getting searched or stripped he is liable to be dead anyways; it also serves as a reminder and might help deflect a blow or two...

The lad settles a bit. He doesn't appear completely won over, but his immediate terror has subsided.

"I don't know how I end up in this dungeon of horrors. The last thing I recall is settling in for the night in Sir Balin's camp. When I woke up I was down here and that horrible thing was chasing me. It looks like a man, but it isn't. It's a devil. it chased me though horrible room after horrible room. If I hadn't found that hidey hole, it would have had me for sure."

Ember, for the most part stayed in silence. She could move without being seen, she could kill using her hands, she was more than apt at using a bow, she could drag the boy off the hole, set him up in the torture table and learn all of his secrets, she always knew when someone was lying to her, not a move one would do she missed, but talking sweetly is not her best trait. It amazed her how she was able to do it before. Lucky is a fickle mistress, it’s dumb to trust her.

Lucetta leads the way back to the previous room and gestures to the East door.

We have yet to explore this way, gird yourselves and let us see what awaits

The lad hesitantly follows you out.

Past the eastern door is a short corridor that leads to another of the now familiar doors. Above this one is engraved “The chosen are revealed by their might. The weak deserve no sympathy.”

Opening the door, you see another room lighted by a hanging lantern a door to the south is barred by a heavy wooden crossbeam. Writhing beneath the lantern is a pair of shiny metal serpents.

Hmm, thus far each room has been self-contained, I believe the boy may hold information yet crucial to us in escaping down here, this may well simply be a test of might, though I find myself ill-prepared as my arcane magics are ill-suited to such direct confrontation.

Howdy folks! Thanks for joining my little game here. Hopefully we all get along and have a good time.

First thing first, let's roll for our remaining ability scores.
1d10+7 four times in order. No re-rolls no swapping ability scores. Yes this does mean our fighter could have 8 CON, but that's half the fun.

Once your scores are set, you can finish off you character sheets. Everyone gets an extra 2 skill points per level and feel free to co-ordinate skill point allocation. If you have any questions, let me know.

As for gear, you all start with nothing and all spell casters have their daily spells memorized. The gameplay thread is open, so feel free to make a post. Remember that all the PCs are already acquainted.

One last thing, while I'm not overly concerned about posting rate, if you fail to post for a week, without prior warning, I will replace you. I hope that doesn't seem too unreasonable.

Looking forward to this campaign and the characters' decent into evil.
Now let's hope the rng is feeling nice this evening...

Wis: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Cha: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Guess it's not. What I get for posting late at night...
Who is not staying on the front line? That's right, Iacobus.

Quick question, are we including racial bonuses or not? (cause I could really use that plus two.....)

Will develop alias in a little while(tomorrow morning likely...)

Male Human Cleric 1 l HP: 12/12 l AC: 9 l FF: 9 l Touch: 9 l CMD: 10 l Init:-1 l Fort: +5 l Ref:-1 l Will:+5 l Perception:+3 l

Not unreasonable at all. I am glad to be a part of this.

Wisdom: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12

Charisma: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11

Interesting. Alright, Zurn has 22 point buy.

Yes you still get your racial bonus.

And just for the sake of fairness, if you end up with less than say a 17pt buy, you can re-roll, because Sedoriku's rolls are brutal.

Thank-you, the stat line would have been interesting to play (to say the least...)

Intellegence = 18
Wis (take 2): 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Cha (take 2): 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
I can work with those.

Thanks for allowing me to join.

Wis: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Cha: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15

And our fighter does have Con 8. This screams vampire at some point. I am a bit lost as to try and patch up my build plan for a two weapon fighting sword and board or just sword and board with a quick fix for con.

Should we work out how we know each other from the gang?

Hi everyone, Sanguine checking in :D

OK no putting it off...

WIS: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
CHA = 18

Argh, it totals 17 points exactly, treacherous strength score!!

Still, one must deal with the hand that is dealt, I shall retire to consider how to integrate the attributes to Lucetta's background and make her more physical somehow :)

Ugly rolls, all. Focus and foible are supposed to average about a 25 pt buy. You guys are nowhere near that.

If you want you can just do a 25pt buy instead.

I am currently at a 28pt. buy so I am over the 25pt. Would you allow a two for on exchange on my part? That would result in the stats below before racial modifier and keep closer in spirit with the rolls. (A 23pt. buy)
Str 18

Int 8
Wis 12

A 25 pt. buy without racial modifier for me would properly be as written below, but I am open to suggestions.

Well I was okay with the previous roll, I may just level out Con and Wis (making it a 25 point buy but keeping the spirit of the rolls and the focus/foibles.)

@Big OM: Either of those sets of rolls are fine with me.

If you want to keep the spirit of a normal focus foible set up, you can top up your rolls so that it equals a 25 pt buy.

I'll go with the first set, keeping with the spirit

Alright, still need to look at feats and one or two other things but this should be good for Iacobus. If you have any suggestions I would love to hear them. I also am still looking at languages in particular...

Not having to buy things makes this go sooo much quicker.

Looking at what you've selected for languages, I can say that gnome wont ever come up. Celestial and infernal will see use and so will a little bit of giant. Common will be fine for most things.

GM Fanguar that's very generous :)

Not having to worry about buying things really does help you're right Iacobus!

Rolling 2 dice would be the easiest. 1d6+1d4 +7, would make you much less likely to end up with low scores, but you still end up punishing MAD classes a bit.

Ok. I get the gist of the plan. Couple of things. I assume you are going to clean up the blood and hide the bodies. Prestidigitation makes that fairly trivial.

All the guards know how many prisoners there are, so going in and seeing just one is going to tip them off immediately, so I'm not sure what the point of Lucetta's disguise is.

I'm going to want a bluff roll when you call the guards in and disguise rolls from whomever is dressed up as guards, when the guards get close to them.

Other than that, I think trying to lure those 2 guards into a trap is an excellent idea.

Yup prestidigitation would be used for cleaning/dirtying as required. That's probably the most use I've ever gotten out of that spell thus far in any campaign :D

Well I thought to lure them to the guard room and have them see the prisoner on the floor there in a puddle of blood (so no need to re-visit the cell-block).

On balance I think it's the best idea, as means the disguised PC guards are at a distance so easier to bluff as their faces will be at a distance and less easy to recognise when they shout for help, it's just the question of what to say! Sadly there are no female guards so Lucetta cannot help with the bluff :s

pfsrd states "When your character is not in immediate danger or distracted, you may choose to take 10."

So I guess in this instance it would be down to GM fiat, you're not technically in immediate danger or distracted by anything, but it could be ruled that the situation is quite stressful. I'll be honest and say I'd ask the GM!

out of combat, taking 10 if fine.

Hey Guys, I have some really really really bad news. I am going through a rough patch in my life. I can't really go into detail, but the reasoning is legitimate.

What I can go into detail about is the medium that we play in. I realized that this medium has become largely unsatisfying for me.There are certainty advantages: more detail, more characterization, and a different way of storytelling. But, I like seeing someone roll the dice. Seeing the laughter, the panic, and the excitement. It cannot be beat. I feel like this computer screen is too much of a wall to probably experience that kind of fun. Certainly, time is less of an issue in some circumstances, but game time is much slower. There are a large amount of games that are left unfinished.I would rather not go farther and do a disservice to you guys.

I am calling quits through this medium. I apologize for starting something and not being there to finish it. Especially when it is early game. It is important that I do this. I am glad to have the opportunity to play with you guys. This was a valuable learning experience.

Please have my character replaced.

...and that's why I never accept new players into my APs.

I've sent an invite out to another player. Hopefully they are still interested.

Hey there!

Just got the invite, and spent the last little bit skimming the gameplay.

I'd definitely be interested in joining y'all. I was in a Way of the Wicked game that died this time last year at almost exactly the same place y'all are now. In other words, perfect timing.

Poki is a Dread Gnome Blight Druid. She isn't really specced for healing (especially with the default spells from her capture), but I can certainly bend her more that way if need be. Personality-wise, she's essentially a feral fey, or the sm**f version of Gollum.

Let me know what you want me to do regarding creation. Stat's were originally rolled under Focus/Foible (Focus: Wisdom, Foible: Intelligence) but I'm happy to reroll if you like.

I'm generally a reliable poster, but I'm accountant, so I tend to get a little flakey for a week or so around quarter-end -- and some years January can be brutal. I'll give you a heads up if that looks likely.

It's sad to see someone go... though it is nice to have a replacement already.

I'm also planning on being here for the long run but, as my post count and newbie mistakes (posting two rolls in one) shows, I am just getting started...

And 'ello Poki, posion crafter and (next level) user here. Glad to see she can still have a chance to burn down the Evil Holy Government.

It's a little inelegant, but I'm just going to retcon Poki in and the good doctor out. Now with the fabric of space time reordered, we can continue.

@Poki: your current stats are fine enough, a little high, but hardly game breaking. As for healing, I'm not a big proponent of in combat healing at the best of times and evil clerics don't get channel positive energy anyways, so it's not really a big change. Wands of CLW and infernal healing will suffice, I would think. I will ask that you start with one spell spent, representing a CLW on Grumblejack, so I don't have to retcon that. Otherwise, Poof! You're in the game.

@Iacobus: People come and people go, it's to be expected, but considering the circumstances it would have been nice if Zurn hadn't wasted everyone's time. RE:newbieness, I have no problem with multiple actions posted, it's just that you have to take into account potential failures. Peception vs disguise, sense motive vs bluff, etc. If you fail, the outcome is quite different. That being said, I generally don't mind if you want to make opposing rolls for the enemy during you post, instead of waiting for me to respond. It can help speed things along.

Just to note I will be visiting a friend in Salt Lake City for a few days and may not be able to post with any regularity, especially tomorrow and Thursday (when I will be driving for 7+ hours).

I will be able to post but if I fail to do so timely feel free to bot me.

Got my copy of the Advanced class guide yesterday. Doesn't look like much (if anything) has changed. (Still a skill monkey par excellence, still likely to be less than helpful during combat... though some of the new talents might help some.)

Sorry about not posting much, I was still trying to get back into the swing of things from my vacation.

Posting rate is pretty dire folks. Please keep me updated if you aren't going to be able to post.

I always try and post when there's something to respond to, but I try not to be every other post in the thread!

I'm surprised that the others are flagging, noting you stated at the start of the game:

One last thing, while I'm not overly concerned about posting rate, if you fail to post for a week, without prior warning, I will replace you. I hope that doesn't seem too unreasonable.

as Iacobus and Poki haven't posted since last Saturday :(

Dang that was this campaign. I shall endeavor to post more...

I'll go find a new divine caster.

I'm very sorry for how flaky I've been. It's been a strange August -- and September doesn't look like it will be any better. I also underestimated how difficult it would be to try and pick up a game as a replacement -- I've never quite caught the rhythm of this one.

I agree that you'd be better served with a new divine caster. You've got a great-looking group and I hate to be dragging you down.

Again, my sincerest apologies -- I hope to hit a game with y'all in the future, when I'm hitting on all cylinders.

Hey, hello! Thanks for having me!

Let my try my luck!

Str: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Dex: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Con: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Int: 8 = 8 Foible
Wis: 18 = 18 Focus
Cha: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8

... man, that negative Cha really kills what I was planning, but well, the rest I got real good rolls.

Race: Human

I'll work in this and post later.
