Pathfinder ruleset, E6 subset, sandbox homebrew game

Checking interest for a homebrew fantasy game, using the pathfinder rules, with the E6 subset (for keeping things a bit more gritty)

All I can say now is that it would be an original world, most likely something I create with heavy player input and that it would be VERY sandboxy and character driven, so characters with their own motivations are what I'd be looking for.

Link for E6, for those not familiar: E6

interesting, but I'd like to see a full premise before being completely interested.

You need to throw out some character generation rules, but I loves me some E6. I have a hobgoblin Ghengis Khan wannabe I really enjoy playing. He conquers and civilizes lands in the name of Asmodeus (well at first level he tries to anyway). I could come up with any number of other possibilities. An evangelist minded human inquisitor/paladin of Iomedae, or an oracle of metal looking to build a mining company.

People are gonna want at least some basic details on the setting. European inspiried? Untamed wilderness? Asian? Middle Eastern? Time period (ie dark ages level tech, renaissance or guns everywhere victorian era?)

Those are very good questions, and I'd have to say that I'd probably want to start with a dark ages tech, european themed. I am a big fan of dark fairie tales too, so there will definitely be some untamed wilderness going on.

Char gen would be heroic, probably 25 points.

Any other specifics I will post after more folk express interest, as I'd like to tailor it somewhat to the characters.

i am interested, when i learn a little more i can make a character that will fit. im interested in some kind of psion most likely

Are you using homebrew deities? That would be important for two of the three characters I proposed.

Definitely interested. Will post up a character concept tomorrow night.

Can you give us some more info on what you envision the setting to be like?

E6 sounds interesting, I might be interested depending on the setting, some general pointers would be appreciated

Dark Archive

I am interested. Can you give us more info on character creation?

As I predicted, more information needed :P Since you want input from the players...

I'd like a Van Hellsing type game. I know that's more in the 17th century than dark ages but just throwing it out there. Perhaps there's some church similar to Christianity that's taken hold of the land, and we're a special team of agents designed to stamp out the last remnants of a dark age of polytheism and monsters?

Another good way to do sandbox is the whole Tabula Rasa thing, where we're on a frontier and we basically go conquer/explore lands ala Kingmaker. In my experience it's a lot of work though.

yeah... the characters usually wrap around the campaign premise. not the other way around. XD

All good points everyone... i've got some ideas, but i think i wanna sleep on em for a bit. I'll post some more concrete stuff tomorrow...er... later today.

Im in I like a grand setting big events and a world to play with

Sounds interesting. I'm going to hold off on getting a character together until I know more, now off to read the rules instead of skimming them.

def interested .. i like what i have read about E6 so far. i would like to try it before i try to sell it to my RL players ....

I definitely interested in the concept of E6 so I'd be willing to give this a try. Most of my questions have already been asked so I'll just wait for fear of redundancy :)

For a starting point, All the characters will be from the same small town.
- They should all be around the same age, just "coming of age" (nonhumans are welcome, but I'll be adjusting them to have around the same lifespan)
- I'll consider nonstandard races on a case by case basis.
- Create characters with 25pts for abilities, and half starting gold.
- You may each also have an heirloom item that can be worked out with me.
- I would also like you to briefly detail your family (2 people at least, but more is encouraged) or two others in the community that you are close to.

I'm looking for 4-5 players

The theme is dark fantasy, set in a medieval town. Magic is around, but uncommon, and magic items are also pretty rare. Movies of inspiration that come to mind are "The Village", "Dragonslayer", "Pathfinder" (the one about the viking and native americans) A note to people interested in psionics: I don't dislike them, but if used, I'd want to have them replace arcane magic, and that would be up to the group as a whole for the final decision)

as for the place:

Solace Is a small community of about 100 people sitting on a pleasant coast. The small group has stayed here for several generations, and they value their independence. To the south, a 40 foot cliff overlooks the ocean, and many of the townsfolk make their days fishing. To the west is a rough mountain range, and the old quarry. Most of the rocks that form the houses of the people were taken from here, and what little iron ore there is comes from here as well. To the east is the woods, a forest of various types of broad leaved trees that thickens the further east you go. The closest group of trees are peach, and a fair sized orchard has been made here. A river also runs through the center of the area, down from the mountains, and it flows off the side of the cliff, down to the ocean. A large black tree, devoid of leaves and standing up on its roots, stands over the waterfall. The land rises slowy to hills as one goes north, and a small, mostly unused watchtower sits several miles out, just past the farmlands. The town has many pigs and a half dozen cows. The few horses that are in Solace are used to help with the work.

Notable NPCs:
Abram Verdance- The current community leader, and a deeply spiritual man, he still follows the Old Faith (Nature worship/druidism). He is a strongly built man in his fifties, tall and darkhaired, he wears a thick beard and listens calmly to the townsfolk through their problems.

Johnas Wiggs - Johnas is the "town drunk", more of an amusement than an embarrassment, Johnas always has a tale to tell, and a kind old man. Several years ago, he stumbled upon the idea of fermenting the peaches, and now that drink is enjoyed as much if not more, than ale. He is nearing his final years, but seems spritely still, with his near bald pate and crooked teeth.

Corvina - A strange woman. If anyone is a black sheep in the community, it is Corvina. Her mother, while she lived, was prone to "fits" where she would babble uncontrollably and was said to be able to speak to the dead. She died when Corvina was 8, and with only minimal contact from the rest of the town, Corvina raised herself. She is now in her 20's, a dirty girl with ragged clay colored hair and shocking blue eyes.

Jerem Cor - A new arrival to Solace, he has only been around for a week or so, but has been talking softly to the townsfolk about "The One". Telling any who will listen about this new faith from the north and how he has found comfort and protection. He is in his late 20's with closely cut dirty brown hair, and cleanly shaven. He wears a medalion about his neck that is a silver seven pointed star with an eye in the center.

Homebrew deities, yes, but if you have one in mind and a cool character, we could probably work something out

May I play an orc? or at least play the scarred witch doctor? (like are you ok with me playing this archetype without the prerequisite race?)

I would like to play a "psionic" character, however it wont be one that manifests powers (what i mean to say is that id like to play a soulknife). would i be able to play that without depriving the other players of the chance to play arcane casters (since my character wouldnt be manifesting powers)?

I would like to play a blue goblin. he would be an outcast from one of the goblin tribes and will have cast his lot in with the humans, and helps them out in exchange for refuge within Solace. My character would be Lawful Neutral.

I don't mind an orc, or the scarred witch doctor archetype...in theory, however, i want everyone to start out more a less a part of the community, and although an orc could be fairly easily integrated the witch doctor aspect might take a bit more finagling, seems more of an outsider to me. I willing to hear ideas though.

I'm interested - it kind of reminds me of the old Star Wars "D6" system - which is very similar in a lot of ways; but far more streamlined.

But I need to know more about it before I say yes or no.

What other details are there at this time?

Gonna wait to really commit to this. One of my board friends just opened a recruitment, so I might go with that instead. I'll keep my eye on this one though.

I like the blue goblin idea, the outcast working with the humans. I'm a little iffy about the soulknife though. I'm kinda looking for a "magic and magic items are rare" feel, and basically being able to call one up at will kinda goes against that.

Along those lines, the Magus class would probably be out as well.

Dotting for interest! :-)

D-O-tizzle!

Would it be better then if I take a scarred witch with a human? That would be a bit out of Paizo's rules but it would be better fluff-wise. The idea would be like someone that could relate to Corvina (being similar to her mom) and since the idea is people coming of age (depending on your religion, that's 11-21) the age difference wouldn't be that much. But way before he/she befriended her, he/she'd take solace in hobbies the village would call odd. He'd make friends with the friendlier faces of town that don't prejudice him but would ultimately be sent on the mission as a bullying scheme.

In that case I'd like to pitch to you a goblin alchemist. Same idea racially but not a soulknife. I'll likely try to go with some options that really focus on his goblinyness.

Hold on. If the party ends up as a bunch of outcasts, I'll probably make something less... part-of-the-herd.

would love to play a mech race, that would be so cool.
Tin man kind of thing.

Alchemist works better, but remember he's integrated. He would have to be a more civilized type goblin (he could still be crude, he might hang out with Johnas quite a bit), or he'd likely be kicked out. Corvina is barely tolerated....and also you still have to have 2 friends/family members that he is close with (although Johnas might count as one if you go that route)

That could work if he kept his witchyness secret, at least until recently or something.

Tin man kind of thing.

Regrettably, I'm going to have to pass on the living construct types. They have immunities that take away from the vulnerability and grittiness that i'm looking for.

yeah. he'd just be known as a kid who hangs out with Corvina and cuts himself. By the way, in terms of this campaign, what IS coming-of-age? like what age group is that?

I would like to give a try as an Aasimer Paladin if that's acceptable. If you'd like I would take the alternate racial trait Scion of Humanity to bring the character to a more human level. As far as a token deity goes, I would be excited to play the character unaware of his celestial bloodline and his paladin abilities. This is lvl 1, low-magic after all :)

Scion of Humanity:
Scion of Humanity Some aasimars' heavenly ancestry is extremely distant. An aasimar with this racial trait counts as an outsider (native) and a humanoid (human) for any effect related to race, including feat prerequisites and spells that affect humanoids. She can pass for human without using the Disguise skill. This racial trait replaces the Celestial language and alters the native subtype.

Probably 15-18

** spoiler omitted **

could work... but i'd like to know a bit more about your idea.

Ok, as of now, proposed characters are:

Hoogie: human (secret)witch (scarred witchdoctor arch)
Terro: blue goblin alchemist
imjohnnyrah: aasimar scion of humanity paladin (clueless of heritage)
AdamWarnock: human ranger?

sounds good so far, but i'd like to give some more time and let others chime in before making any final decisions

i should also note that i'm not interested in having any evil characters (although MMMAAAAYBEEE lawful evil)

I will have a character posted later tonight. I plan him to be law-abiding because he knows he will be kicked out of town if he misbehaves.

I would like to play if you're still taking players.

Shrodinger, what sorts of wildlife are there in the area? I am thinking of doing a druid and I'm trying to see what is in the area that I could have come into contact with.

I am seeing my character as one of those always outdoors kids that shirks school to go run in the woods and in the wild.

I am still taking submissions, I haven't made an final decisions yet.

Wildlife would be; rabbits, fox, field mice, some wolves, all kinds of birds, snakes, lizards, some deer and wild pigs...rarely a bear or cougar might come down from the mountains. Probably some more, but those would be most common.

Okay, this is my submission. Her name is pronounced eh-LAR-ya

Background:
Elarya Whitescale sat in her room as the sun went down. The day was done and soon supper would be ready. There would be talk of what happened today and what needed to be done tomorrow, but right now, she didn't talk. She just sat and stared at the engraved crest on a sword, her uncle's sword.

She remembered playing in the snowy courtyard of the keep that had been her clan's home since time immemorial. She remembered her first outing into the deep forest of towering pines south of her home. She remembered hearing stories of great heroes that stood against the odds. She remembered her father teaching her to fish and hunt and her grandfather teaching her to forge and mend armor and weapons. She remembered Whitescale, the glorious shield whose name the clan bore. She remembered the oath she swore over a year ago.

She remembered how she broke it not long after.

Her uncle had asked her if she wanted to go see the world beyond the keep and the forest. She agreed and the next day they meet with a caravan heading south. All was well and she was happy. A week after leaving things seemed off. Game was scarce and the land grew quiet. They found the carcass of a horse, broken and half-eaten, a few days later. After two weeks of travel, the caravan found the remains of a camp, long deserted. They moved a little ways down the road and set up for the night.

It wasn't long after that. It wasn't long at all. They struck without warning and slew the two men on guard before they could let out much more than a yell of surprise. Before the rest could grab a weapon, they were upon the camp. Men screamed in death and terror, and the metallic tang of blood filled the air. Elarya was barely of age. Her fifteenth birthday, the day she swore to uphold all that the Whitescale clan stood for, was barely two-weeks past. She was scared, no, she was terrified.

So she hid, and in doing so broke her oath, the most important oath she had or would ever make. She cowered in the brush until dawn was turning the eastern sky gray. Once she was sure she that the raiders had left, she crept from her hiding place, and found death. All of the people she had met, all of the guards, and her uncle lay dead and mutilated. Most of them were stripped of anything that wasn't worthless, but in the dirt turned mud by the blood of others, she found her uncle's sword, still in the scabbard. She ran with the sword clutched to her chest all the way to Solace, where she collapsed at the gate.

She had broken her oath and the tears began to come unbidden. She sat there silently weeping as the shield and dragon became a dark blur in her vision. She quietly slide the scabbard back down to fully cover the blade and used the sword to prop her head up as her body shuddered from sobs unheard.

Just outside the cracked door, stand the blacksmith and his wife. The two had taken her in after she had said she had some skill with a hammer and tongs. She had almost become a second daughter to them, and it pained them to see that a year's passage had not lessened the grief she had felt. Their children waited quietly in their room. The two boys and the little girl didn't understand, but they knew that something was not right with the young girl that had become a big sister to them. The sun continued to set, and the tears continued to fall.

Appearance and Personality:
Elarya stands at 5 foot 3 inches and her well toned body weighs about 110 lbs. Her hair is blond and tends to be kept in a long braid down her back. She has pleasant looks, and used to have an outgoing personality with them. Now she is rather morose and rarely talks to anyone unless prompted.

Whitescale... like Squawk's old game Whitescale?

"Whoa! Who told you?!"

Yep. Zimmer took over after Squawk left.

I am going to be out of town until Sunday unfortunately so I wont be able to submit much until then. I have a concept for a Human Bear Shaman Druid that I will be submitting if that helps.

Cousin of mine. Anyways, before we prolong the OOC, I'll just say that I'll tell him the game's still running. He felt bad that he needed to leave it.

I have never posted on here before so please bear with me...

I curently play pathfinder on table top and by email but my group is veeerrrry slow and I am interested in joining another group as well. This style of campaign seems very interesting and I would like to submit a character. I have no idea how to hide this info so that you have to click to see it, but if all PCs know each other anyway I don't think it would be a spoiler.

Amara Sontan - human ranger

Amara has spent her entire 16 years in this picturesque town and all the people here are familiar to her in the way of small towns. Her father and brothers are fisherman, and the constant smell has ensured that she has spent as much time in the forest, away from fish guts, as possible. Being the youngest, and the only daughter, her parents indulged her and she was left pretty much to her own devices. She soon discovered another like-minded citizen, Samel Berit, who shared his love of the forest with her and taught her its secrets. He has guided her in the ways of the wild and strengthened her ties to the old faith.

Upon returning to town after spending a few peaceful days in the forest she is soon made aware of the newcomer who seems to be spouting some such nonsense of no interest to her...

If you want actual stats please let me know and I will do a full character roll up. If I have done it all wrong also please let me know :)
