I'm half-way tempted to let you calm Elarya down with that roll, but I don't think it'd be in character for a few reasons.
-She's not in the best state of mind right now. She was getting a little better, but having to face the bandit that lead the attack on the caravan she was a part of, and then finding out it was an illusion, caused by one of those serpents sent her a little over the edge.
-Tying into the first reason, she is pissed off at this thing and wants to wring it's neck for what it did.
-The image of a 5' 3" girl pounding the living daylights out of a snake that's about 6' is too humorous not to have her try and do just that.
-Finally, it gives her a chance to vent without hurting anyone.

Sansa Allende |

@Rook: Nods. I hear you. Animals and Birds have an uncanny ability of sensing spirits, so it makes sense to play off the curse.
@Elarya: The serpent creature is between you and Sansa, so she can't heal you until she can get close enough to touch you (and there isn't a nasty in the middle trying to kill her and you).
Edit: Elarya, I am not entirely sure of your current position and have asked the GM to clarify. If you did make it into the Tower and are close to Sansa and Dante, then I will act accordingly ...

Garrett Snow |
Fingers crossed.
I was thinking that the ladder was attached to the wall until I read that the snake was wrapped around the top rung beneath the trapdoor. That's the only reason I suggested tearing down the ladder.
O well. I'll admit that I'm a little heartbroken that my 3 nat 20's were effectively wasted. :(

Elarya Whitescale |

I wouldn't. With the way I roll, I have enough bad luck for the whole group. By the way, rules as written Elarya should be at 10/16 HP with 2 nonlethal.
You heal nonlethal damage at the rate of 1 hit point per hour per character level. When a spell or ability cures hit point damage, it also removes an equal amount of nonlethal damage.

Sansa Allende |

Okay, the confused little Oracle can't remember if Dante took the stone off her when he entered the Tower or she still has it...
Now, if Sansa does have it, I'll have her forgetting she pocketed it or something ... so it makes a little more sense. haha.
;)

Hello all, just wanted to post and tell you guys I haven't given up on the game. The last few days, I've just been a bit drained and having trouble coming up with stuff I'm happy with. I'm going to take a few days to get back into it, and from then on I should be able to step back to it with full enthusiasm. Hopefully you guys are still interested in playing after my short break.
I expect to be posting again this weekend. I hope you are all still with me. :)

Garrett Snow |
No worries, it happens to the best of us. Trust me, a 5 day break is nothing compared to the pauses in a few of my other games. Take your time and put up something that pleases you. Y'know, that whole "quality > quantity" thing. I'm genuinely interested in seeing how this goes :-)
Just a quick heads up while we're on the subject of weekends, I'll be attending a wedding Sunday so I probably won't be posting during the day. Fri and Sat won't be any trouble though.

Sansa Allende |

I'm out of town this weekend (starting tomorrow) for a high school reunion and a birthday party. I will be back home my Sunday evening (your Saturday) and will catch up on postings then.
Just giving everyone a heads-up. Thanks. :) Enjoy your respective weekends.

AdamWarnock |

Have fun.
@ da GM: No worries. One of the best cures for a block is to just push through it. If you just can't write, take a break and come back to it.
You're doing great, and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens, and not just with my character.

Garrett Snow |
Really? I think you know perfectly well what's going to happen when Garrett inevitably tries to impose his ideals on Elarya, lol!
On that note, I've never been a fan of perfection. Even my Paladin is going to have somewhat "realistic" character flaws. Absolute obedience to authority and chauvinism are only the first ugly traits to rear their heads! Muahahaha!!!
Btw, my max campaigns was 4 and that was too much. God bless you crazy gamers! I simply don't have the energy to change perspectives, voices and motivations between so many characters.

Elarya Whitescale |

Well, it helps that I'm firmly rooted in the crazy camp. It also helps that I try and figure out their personalities before hand.
As for LG characters with flaws. I'm playing an Iomedaean cleric who has a bit of temper when it comes to people who abuse their power. If what I think is going to happen, happens, she may wind up a drunkard. ;)
EDIT: and before I forget, your right, it won't be pretty.

Garrett Snow |
I don't like playing the same characters or personalities so I think anything over 4-5 voices and mindsets would be too much for my tastes. Right now I'm playing:
- My self-loathing, manic depressive, alcoholic LN Ranger/Rogue.
- My egotistical, borderline sociopath LN Fighter (if you were to see the stats he rolled you may understand why)
- And Garrett; my young, headstrong Paladin who lives for his father's approval and legitimately falls in love with every girl he meets (these things will become apparent as the game goes on).
I've considered mustering up the courage to take on that 4th game just to play a wizard but I'm still apprehensive. I'm still in 2 of the 4 games I had, the ones that I dropped were really unrewarding. One game had a great DM but uninvested players and the other had talented and reliable role players but a confusing and self-contradicting DM. If I find something promising (probably another homebrew) then I'll toss together a full caster of some sort but until then I'll settle with the 3 good ones I already have.

Garrett Snow |
So I was poking around the SRD just a moment ago and I came across this bit of 3pp: Backgrounds & Occupations.
I know we're testing out an interesting variant system already and was wondering what the rest of you and obviously our esteemed DM thought about this little nugget.
Questions? Comments? Hurled bricks?
Personally, I think it's kinda neat but not overwhelmingly offsetting.

Tenro |

the variant rule looks good. i like to use things like that to help me flesh out a background, as mine tend to be cliche.
as for characters, i have the following:

AdamWarnock |

Not so sure about the backgrounds thing.
And I guess I should join in the fun.
- Elarya Whitescale: A troubled young human Barbarian who is finally overcoming the grief of losing her uncle. (This Campaign)
- Magnhildr Whitescale: A storyteller, story collector, and devout Desnan that has a bitter hatred of all things related to Lamashtu. She's also an Aasimar barbarian and is going on her first journey outside of the Land of the Linnorm Kings(Rise of the Runelords)
- Raseri Whitescale: Another human barbarian. Her rage was targeted at Gaedren Lamm for taking her sisters. She has found one, but is missing the other. (Curse of the Crimson Throne)
- Joan: A coarse, terse, but friendly human ranger that has a bit of a vendetta against giants. Was "courted" at one time by an NPC, which ended after she had her pants used to bind badger inflicted wounds on the two of them. (Homebrew Campaign)
- Ping Ibbleting: A gnome bard and a follower of Shelyn who has a habit of painting any bare wall with paintings of stunning beauty, but often without permission. (Series of converted Modules, Ran by the same guy that runs the Campaign Joan's in)
- Wanwa'lasse: A shy, scarred half-elf ranger that has a paralyzing fear of goblins. (Jade Regent)
- Ice Eyes: A human fighter that is skilled with a bow, but not so skilled with social situations, or anything to do with magic. She was a hunter in the mountains before the lack of game caused her to leave and seek employment as a guard. (Homebrew Campaign)
- Khatijah: A scarred pit fighter who recently turned 16. She's naive about the ways of the world, but is (supposedly, the dice haven't been agreeing with this) a skilled fighter and surprisingly wise, if a bit off kilter. (Legacy of Fire)
- Allysen: A slightly naive Aasimar priestess of Iomedae. She's been having a hard time reconciling her beliefs and faith with what she is seeing and thrust into. (Modified Curse of the Crimson Throne)
- Luca Shatterstone: A paranoid dwarven smith and priestess of the god of the forge. She also pays homage to the god's lover, who is the goddess of fire. She has a soft spot for a little goblin lass named Ingot, who she has offered to train as an apprentice. (Palace of the Vampire Queen.)
- Gkirkhan: A fun-loving, battle-loving, beer-loving half-orc Fighter/Barbarian. He is infatuated with one of the other PC's and is typically clueless on just about anything not dealing with fighting, drinking, or wooing the ladies. (Carrion Crown)
- Gwyndolin Maulsen: A human Rogue and the only daughter of a minor noble house. One of the players described her as "innocently evil." She is easily flustered and embarrassed by matters carnal. (Way of the Wicked)
- Angus Alehammer: Another human Rogue. He is a master of brews, or hopes to be anyway, and very, very outspoken against authority. He loves booze, big swords, and busty women in that order (Council of Thieves)
- Pan and Elaina: These two deserve a special mention.
-Pan has been killed on two separate occasions and is psychotic from the trauma. She has been critted twice for over 30 points of damage when she only has 32 HP. She has had her skull bashed in by a gorilla, and on top of it all, she is a CG half-elf Rogue working for the LE Chelian Faction in the Pathfinder Society.
-Elaina has had better luck staying alive. Her problem is ghouls. She has contracted Ghoul Fever every single time she has fought them, and that has been almost every scenario she's been in. She has been paralyzed after triggering a trap that plopped her right in front of a ghoul, mauled by a baby snow leopard (Full to 0 HP before anyone could act), dropped from 30 feet by a cave fisher, sent sailing off a boat that got grounded after the "pilot" (one of the other PCs) let go of the rudder to aim his bow, almost accidentally keel-hauled when she freed the boat, crashed the same boat into a dock, and mauled by an over-grown chicken.

Lol! These are great! Thanks for sharing.
I almost joined that Fallout campaign but I was caught between work obligations and babysitting. My favorite RL campaign was actually Fallout inspired with 3.5 gestalts. We did alternating DM's for each side quest so there was a great mix of horror and comedy.
I agree that the Backgrounds & Occupations material could use a bit of leveling, particularly the ones that add combat feats. For the most part I just like the idea. A competence bonus or additional class skills and a skill feat rewarding our backgrounds seems like fun. IMO.

Garrett Snow |
I've been meaning to ask: On a scale from 1-10, how big of a deal are magic users in this setting? 1: Every city street corner has at least one pyromancer making a fuss for spare coppers. 10: A sorcerer is burned at the stake or elevated to God status if he casts magic missile.
I'd just like to gauge the appropriate response to spell-slingers.

Haha, nice...I guess...to know it's not just me. They seem to have royally screwed it up. Can't even easily go between campaign threads anymore. Last post I see is Elarya's, but have to assume if new posts show up here they will on gameplay thread as well. Maybe I'm giving them too much credit though...
