The party easily finishes off the two sleeping creatures as Viviana begins to swim after the creature rapidly retreating.
While Viviana begins swimming towards it, the creature gets a panicked look as it uses it tentacles and jets rapidly into the water and down a dark tunnel leading east and out of sight.
Full-round action- Jet
Floating in the water the group sees a Tricorne Hat, like the one seen belonging to Sandara Quinn.

The walls of this small cavern display strangely ribbed markings. The tunnel continues eastward. As per the map
Aishe- that perception check saw the spoiler below

Aishe Kaleja |

Aishe points to a set of grates set in the cavern floor. "We should investigate those later. If they're holding anyone in there, they're long dead anyway..."

![]() |

Deciding to come back to the metal bars later the party continues to press forward. The tunnel opens into a wider cavern decorated with hundreds of leering skeletal parts, wriggling with worms. Four dark circular openings exit the chamber.
The chambers are to the North, East, West and South (which you just came from).
Within the chamber on the mound of skeletal parts rests a purple seven-armed octopoid monstrosity that is the size of a horse, with hook-lined tentales and cold, blue eyes.
Moooorre...... Fooooood.......For.......Son.....of.......Lah....Mash....tu The creature rasps from it's hooked beak as it begins to spray a red gore all about the hard surface. The gore almost resembles fresh wet, blood.
Making the immediate area difficult terrain, but at least it is low tide and no water in this room. :)

GM, Viviana's Init should be +3 instead of the previous +1 I believe. Its my mistake, I should have alerted you to that.
Assuming each square is still 10 feet, then I don't think I can 5 foot in and attack, so I will spend a move action to get in close and then attack, targeting his flat AC.
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

![]() |

Ok thanks I will change that then. That will pace you first on the list then.
And you are correct. You are unable to 5 foot step in difficult terrain and it costs double the movement to move. for example 5 feet costs 10 feet of movement.
Viviana rushes into the beast to slam her fist at the creature before it has time to react. Though the creature is caught off guard it has a slight opening and slams a tentacle around Viviana.

Jack steps You are on solid ground in this room Jack forward slightly. As he sees his friends being pummeled he whispers a blessing on the entire party.

Standing on open ground Jack will try to help his comrades by throwing the new dagger at the beast. But is aim is not true and he misses. I think 13 is too bad? Although the beast is in a grappling maneuver. PbS and Precis shot are included.

Charles Beecroft |

Just double checking, but normally, when you are grappling someone, you can't take AoOs (as per the grappled condition); does this creature have some special ability that allows it to ignore this? Just trying to help, since it is doing a *lot* of damage to us :-/

@ Viviana- The creature is not also grappled per the grab ability
@ Charles the creatures grab ability allows it to perform a grapple check as a free action upon a successful hit but does not place the creature in a grapple itself

@GM Tyranius: Not gaining the Grappled condition whilst grabbing is normally (as per the Grab universal monster rules) only the case if they take a -20 penalty on their CMB check, but I will roll with it :-)

@ Charles- Yes you are correct so Viviana you would not be grappled not that it did anything this fight as all of your attacks hit and the only attack that struck you was the initial AoO
Charles slams his greatsword into the beast as more gore sprays against the wall and ground. The creature slumps to the cavern floor unable to move anymore.
Combat Over

![]() |

I couldn't believe it when they threw this creature in this early in the module, let along giving the GM the opportunity to have it in water at high tide. That gorey blood ability creates total concealment in water, 50% miss chance, that the creature is still able to see through unhindered

Viviana Masters |

Yea, that looks like a killer encounter, although to be fair, if it didn't get like 3 natural 20s things might have been slightly easier.
BTW, shall we quickly heal up (or at least save Somia who is dying)?

She smiles at Aishe.
"My thanks, I know you're just looking after your own. Now, I have some magic left if anyone is still injured?"

Aishe Kaleja |

Aishe nods, acknowledging Somia's thanks. Then, in response to her question, she shrugs, "I have this scratch, but it's not bothering me too much, really."

I think Aishe has 3 level 1 spells left today. Do we want her to go ahead and use one on Viviana now (possible max of 11 hp healed) or let Somia use hers and save it?

I will give you time to grab the single bracer and identify it Jack. I am just posting the next room.
The party enters the dark tunnel to come to another lit cavern. Hundreds of remains float in this large bowl of water, which churns with bones, scraps of flesh, and the carcasses of strange, almost alien fish. Just visible through the roiling stew are humanoid bodies floating in the water, wan corpses drifting near the bottom of this cauldron like sleeping guardians.
Two figures hang from the ceiling above the churning waters, bound hand and foot with thick strands of seaweed and sinew and weighted with heavy ingots of silver- The kidnapped sailors from the Man's Promise, Sandara Quinn and Crimson "Cog". Both look to be very badly beaten, unconcious and large gashes cover their bodies as if they have been partially eaten.
Two creatures occupy this chamber. Both look identical to the creatures previous in the cave though the smaller creature seems to be wearing an excessive amount of seashell jewelry and a makeshift shell crown of sorts while the other is an obscene, bloated monstrosity with a gaping toothy maw, nearly twice the size of the other creature.
As the party enters the chamber the smaller creature hisses and raors at the group as the sound echoes across the chambers. She cuts the rope holding Sandara and Cog as they crash into the waters below and instantly drug below the surface by the weight of the silver ingots.
