Did Fjori miss his turn this round?? I know I was grapples, but never got a chance to act...which, of course, will be to try and break free.

Break Free (CMB): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21

Fjori Ulfsson wrote:

sadly it just feels like you missed a turn. As soon as I get Ajani's move, you're up for R2. (your R1 actions were a deflecting push and swimming up to the devilfish).

Ah..you are correct sir...lol...your right...it does seem like I missed something there!! Thanks

Baah. Sorry. I thought I had posted a reply. I know I rolled the fort save but I thought I'd posted the rest of my action with it. So is my range to the devilfish 20 feet? Or 30 feet?

Ajani Ihejirika wrote:

yeah, fort save made. range 20. just tell me what you are doing already ...

Male Vanara Druid (Storm) 1 HP 10 / 10; AC 17/13/14; F+3/R+3/W+7; Init +3; Per +9

Sorry. Just wanted to make sure.

His hand still glowing with icy power, Ajani casts Slipstream to increase his swim speed, allowing him to more easily maneuver in the water and hopefully giving him a further advantage of maneuverability over the devilfish.

For anyone who can, he signals that they should try and flank the thing before it rends them all limb from limb. That done, he himself moves directly to the creature using his newly-heightened aquatic speed.

Again, apologies for taking so long.

M Gnome Conjurer

Against his better judgement, the curious gnome paddles forward a little ways and sees just how dire the situation is. He hocks up a loogie and with an arcane word lobs it high at the devilfish.
glob o' acid up!: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 - 4 = 14
damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

It hits and as the acid sizzles painfully, Fjori almost breaks free- only to be pulled back toward the threatening maw. Ajani casts a spell and rushes the distracted monster.

Hassan up!

nausea: 1d4 ⇒ 2 rounds <= that long ( I was thinking 1 min, but that's the concealment part).

I wonder if we lost Hassan. He's usually good about posting every couple days, but it's been a week. He may not have been aboard for the final push...

Hassan:
Water Blast 6/7
1st Level Spells: 2/6
HP: 8/18

MM: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (4, 3) + 2 = 9

Another pair of crimson bolts fly from Hassan's fingertips to blast the hellish cephalopod. Already torn from the reefclaw's death throes, acid burns and arcane bolts, the devilfish drops Fjori to retreat down a side tunnel.

AoOs from Fjori and Ajani!

Male Human (Ulfen) Ranger (Freebooter) 3

AoO: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Confirm Crit: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24

Male Vanara Druid (Storm) 1 HP 10 / 10; AC 17/13/14; F+3/R+3/W+7; Init +3; Per +9

Ajani reaches a hand out to try and grab a tentacle as the hellfish retreats past him!

Melee Touch: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
Damage: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 4, 5) = 18 and staggered for one round.

The cowardly cuttlefish doesn't even make it out of the room as Fjori holds on only to drive his blade deep into the soft head of the beast. Tentacles flail in panic, but all movement stops in a moment once Ajani releases his spell into the devilfish.

More unholy blood is released into the water, but to no effect as Bart and Mel have recovered from their initial nausea. Quillin frowns at the mess and stays at the edge of the black slick with Hassan.

Ajani- did you ever say what spell that was? too powerful for frostbite although sufficient.

Exciting! Now you guys can proceed through the cavern! Hooray! :p

yeah, I was a bit worried about the devilfish. Despite two failed saves, dicebot was merciful. what's the plan, All?

Quillin hands off his potions of cure moderate wounds and barkskin to Fjori. "I plan on staying far from harm so you might as well make use of these."

ah-so.

With the frozen oct-sickle bobbing amidst the black blood that is slowly dispersing, Ajani checks the currents. It appears that the tide is flowing from three of the tunnels and ebbing down the last narrow tunnel. In fact, the very one that the devilfish was headed and likely your final destination...

Male Vanara Druid (Storm) 1 HP 10 / 10; AC 17/13/14; F+3/R+3/W+7; Init +3; Per +9

Ajani gestures to the others in the party, pointing toward the last tunnel. He doesn't wait for the others, instead using his still-enhanced swim speed to move up to the tunnel entrance and peer inside to see if he can tell where it leads.

Male Human (Ulfen) Ranger (Freebooter) 3

Fjori follow close behind, both sword and ax out.
It is shallow enough to wade through, right??

The incoming tide rushes over the shallow rock lip at the mouth of the tunnel, then pulls at your clothing/hair as the bottom slopes downward across thirty feet of tunnel to pour over a 3 foot drop into the chamber. From his perch braced against the flow of the tunnel, Ajani can see a roughly 40 foot diameter rounded chamber beyond. He senses that the water is deep as it sluggishly rotates to drain through some small unseen cracks below.

Strange greenish light again illuminates the room from the phosphorescent blooms above and Ajani's attention is immediately drawn to a chained figure hanging from the ceiling. Looking pale and battered, your crew mate, Sandara Quinn, is suspended above the churning water. Below her the water burbles and two half-eaten bloated corpses spin among the flotsam.

At the opposite end of the room, the scrawny grindylow with the octopus pet that Ajani and Hassan encountered the other day waits. She has slithered on her tentacles a short distance up onto some rocks along the cave wall where the thick strands of seaweed supporting the thoroughly bound and suspended form of Sandara are secured. The pirate priestess turns as she senses your approach and mouths the word, "Help."

you gonna use those potions before combat, Fjori?

The wretched grindy queen on the rock spots your approach and with a slash of the long head on her harpoon, she cuts through the seaweed strands and Quinn plummets with a shriek into the churning water!

Ajani, though clearly alarmed at seeing Quinn plummet into the water, knows he presently has little chance against the grindy queen, so instead, he looks to his companions, calling for them to go on in front.

Delay until Hassan and Fjori have taken their actions.

Male Human (Ulfen) Ranger (Freebooter) 3

Seeing Quinn tossed into the churning water, Fjori roars and charges the grindy queen

Do we have a map for this?? If not, is Fjori close enough to attack? If not he moves forward to do so.

Hassan: 1st Level Spells: 1/6; HP: 8/18
MM: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (2, 1) + 2 = 5

Hassan presses next to Ajani in the narrow tunnel and sends another pair of buzzing red missiles at the cavorting grindylow. Fjori dives in a long arc into the water and still aided by Hassan's swimming spell covers some 50 feet across the cavern to the rock outcropping. The queen howls and by the time Fjori emerges, the entire cavern is plunged into a thick fog obscuring everything above the waterline.

Somewhere behind him, there is a second splash as Bart follows though no more is heard in the fog.

Sorry for not posting yesterday!

Ajani, the rest of the party leaving him alone with the grindyloo druid, mutters a quick incantation. If he's going to be left up here alone, he needs to be able to defend himself first, then fight!

Fighting defensively and cast Shillelagh on the club.

Ajani is left with Quillin and Hassan in the sloping tunnel as Mel dives into the fog after Bart. Ajani casts a spell on his club and it grows throbbing with power. Quillin begins a summoning spell behind the monkey man. The wounded sorcerer holds his final spell for a more opportune moment.

Across the fogbound cavern, Fjori's shout echoes as he attacks and then yells in pain.

Fjori:
Through the mist, you spot the grindy queen atop the rock next to a broken lobster trap filled with knives. With a shout, you swing (axe? cutlass?) at the grindy queen. The small creature ducks your blow, but entangles your legs in her vile tentacles tripping you. A moment later she drives her harpoon into your side. -7 hp

Mel:
Your view is unimpeded by the fog below the waterline. You immediately spot Bart engaged with a monstrous grindylow. The thing is as large as an ogre with a mouth that could swallow a man whole! Ajani moves in the direction of Fjori's scream, stopping short of him and readying his club for a swing should the grindyloo attempt to strike him in turn.

Move as close to Fjori's position as I can get in one move action, then ready an action to attack if he should be attacked.

Ajani dives in after Bart and Mel as Quillin completes his summoning. As Ajani swims across the flooded sea cave, his view below the water is unimpeded by the fog. He notes that Bart is struggling in the jaws of a truly enormous Grindylow about five feet below the surface. The creature is as big as an ogre and its monstrous lumpy head has a mouth that stretches from shoulder to shoulder.

Ten feet below them in the murky depths of the flooded chamber, Mel has arrested Quinn's rapid journey to a saltwater grave. Quinn is bound in lengths of chain weighted with heavy silver ingots. The slight swashbuckler struggles with the load. Suddenly, a sleek black shape appears from nowhere. Mel almost drops Quinn as what she first imagines to be a shark glides toward her. Instead a strange black dolphin thrusts its nose under a loop of chain and rapidly pulls the drowning pirate up to the surface where Quillin and Hassan await.

Ajani finishes swimming across the cave to reach the rock where somewhere nearby in the fog, Fjori and the grindylow druid battle.

Fjori up

Male Human (Ulfen) Ranger (Freebooter) 3

Fjori regains his feet (move equivalent) and attempts to strike at the queen with sword and ax

Attack-Melee (Ax): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Ajani only hears grunts and curses ahead as Fjori disentangles himself from the writhing tentacles and stands. The harpoon jabs at him again, but the queen misses her target in the thick fog. Fjori fares better as he slices the little freak with his cutlass.
Fjori- only one attack after standing and remember a 20% miss chance. The harpoon darts out again, but this time goes no farther than the Ulfen's armor.

Below the water, Mel is horrified to see the great grindy swallow Bart whole! (Bart@13/35) The brawler keeps fighting however as evidenced by the irregular movements of the beast's belly.

Quinn appears below Hassan still wrapped in chains, but held up by Quillin's fiendish ally. With a word and a gesture, Hassan calls another blast of water that thrusts the pirate priest upward to the lip of the tunnel where the sorcerer can pull her to safety. Quillin cackles, "So you can actually hit something with that blast so long as its bound and not resisting."

Ajani up and to be clear, you're standing on the same rock as Fjori and the Grindy Queen about 10 feet away in the fog; 20% miss for concealment at 5'.

Male Vanara Druid (Storm) 1 HP 10 / 10; AC 17/13/14; F+3/R+3/W+7; Init +3; Per +9

Ajani moves forward, following the noise of the fight as best he can. When he believes he is close enough to the grindy queen to attack, he swings his club in a wide arc, saying a silent prayer out for his attack to connect.

Attack: 1d20 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 + 1 = 21
Miss Chance: 1d100 ⇒ 99
Hoping that the 20% means 1-20 and not 81-100...if the attack connects...Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 4) = 6

M Gnome Conjurer

Ajani moves through the fog and quickly spots the hazy forms of Fjori and the grindylow. The Vanara steps to his human companion's side and smacks the aberration with his club. Meanwhile on the other side of the cave, Quillin yells something in a dark language at the black dolphin and conjures acid to help Hassan free Sandara from her chains.

Infernal:
Kill anything with tentacles!

Beneath the troubled waters, Mel swims to Bart's rescue and thrusts her rapier into the giant grindylow. A moment later the shadowy form of the evil dolphin circles to flank the monster with the swashbuckler. Mel- No flank with Bart, but set up with the dolphin next round.

Fjori up.

Male Human (Ulfen) Ranger (Freebooter) 3

Again Fjori swings his weapons at the evil creature, hoping to connect so he can go and help his friends.

The grindyloo druid felled, Ajani turns to the water and weaves a spell of his own, sacrificing his prepared Hydraulic Push to cast Summon Nature's Ally I and conjure his own dolphin.

Ajani eases down to the water's edge and begins summoning. On the other side of the cave, Hassan and Quillin finish freeing Sandara who immediately grabs Hassan's short spear. Below the water, Mel's blade falls short, but the dolphin manages to ram the back of the creature's head. -5
