Ajani Ihejirika
Ajani, also, pulls a vial of alchemist's fire from one of the outer pouches on his backpack, shaking the vial up to mix the volatile components together before throwing it at the floor just beneath where the swarm was thickest.
Ranged Touch Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
To paraphrase Hassan: Raar!!!
Dread Captain Devon
I'll allow the 19 for Hassan for I am a gracious snappy dresser.
Chaos erupts as Quillin runs from the building and disappears while Mel grunts as she drags Bart out of the building. Hassan and Ajani throw flasks of fire and while Hassan's erupts all around the cloud of creatures, Ajani's falls short and barely splashes any of it contents onto the swarm.
Fjori swings in vain with his swords. The swarm meanwhile having lost its prey moves on to Hassan as new target, buzzing biting and stinging at Hassan as the creatures coalesce around the sorcerer. Hassan takes 7 and needs to make a Fort save.
Elsewhere the alchemist's fire thrown by Quillin seems to have spread to the nearby desk and bed. Combined with all the other fire thrown this round it is safe to say that the room will become a somewhat untenable location in a few more seconds. Probably 3 rounds or so before the entire room is on fire?
New round
Hassan Al-Quorri
Oh mother of f%**.
Fortitude => 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Hassan screams as the cloud envelops him, and tries vainly to run for the door. Unable to see amongst the flames and swarm around him, he merely flails about helplessly, as the repeated beatings, stabbings, and drownings take their toll, and he falls to the ground, dying.
HP: -3/18
Fjori Ulfsson
Fjori takes a quick look about the room, trying to see if there is anything worth saving. He then moves towards the now prone Hassan.
Not sure about this part..as I am not sure Fjori knows how to do this, or what might be needed
Triggering the special ability of his new cutlass, he directs a stream of water at the swarm, moving them away from Hassan. He then grabs the poor man and heads outside, hoping the fire will destroy the swarm.
Dread Captain Devon
About 18? More like 12 after Fjori's blast... Some are simply aflame from the alchemist fire and some are on fire fire. I'm also willing to rule that the Hydraulic Push has a disruptive effect on the swarm in the same way winds do. So pushing the swarm with a wave may cause some damage and so on, this will be obvious from Fjori's attempt. (Who would know the activation as Quillin/Hassan would have told him upon identifying it I assume.)
Ajani can easily find a tack that maximizes the water on flames and pushes the swarm around.
Quillin
Quillin lays his two remaining vials of alchemist fire on the ground and steps away so that they become visible. "Let the damned thing burn! I'll survive a night without a bed, but I'm not likely to survive that cloud of blood suckers!"
Smudge circles around the rising smoke, "Let it burn! Let it burn!"
Da roof is on fire! Burn, Mother Fugger, Burn!
Dread Captain Devon
Ajani and Fjori both hit the swarm with wild waves of water that causes most of the fire in the room to sputter though not completely die as foul smelling smoke fills the room. For its purposes the swarm seems at a minimum "confused" and spends the next few seconds sort of reforming itself.
1 v Mel: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
2 v Mel: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Grab?: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Dam: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
A burst of motion interrupts Mel's preparations as a series of long sinewy hands the color of bark descend from above. Easily dodging the first hand she is caught off guard when a second catches her around the throat and attempts to lift her off the ground, narrowly failing to do so as the duelist manages to wriggle free at the last second. Mel takes 4[/dice]
[ooc]Inits are back at the top. Bart are you counting your rounds to move again? Note that you are paralyzed not unconscious.
Ajani Ihejirika
Knowledge (Nature): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19
Unaware of what is happening just on the other side of the room, and knowing that the insects are more-or-less taken care of, Ajani visually canvases the room quickly, looking for anything that appears important or worth salvaging from the coming conflagration.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27
Regardless of what he does or doesn't find, he heeds Quillin's warning, vacating the building as quickly as he is able, wondering what is going on with the rest of the group that would necessitate such a swift egress.
Quillin
here's the post, Bart. so you should be back and swinging.
Bart is caught by the wicked claws of the creature as a thin gashes rupture on the brawler's skin. Bart can feel a sinister sensation seizing at his limbs to render him paralyzed. DC 15 or be paralyzed for 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 rounds.
Dread Captain Devon
Lets see this round has consisted off:
Bart coming out of his "impression of a log" act. (So he acts next round)
Fjori carrying Hassan who is doing his impression of a now not dying sorcerer.
Mel slashing at her attacker.
Ajani dragging a chest out with himself as he exits and closes the door to the fire within.
And Quillin talking and prepping to act...so tell me Voodoo what does your invisible rascal do to close out the round?
Quillin
And Quillin talking and prepping to act...so tell me Voodoo what does your invisible rascal do to close out the round?
shut de door keep im de debil! Ajani didn't mention shutting the door so that was my action, but if we're assuming he took care of that little detail then I'll pull a Salvi on the roof rats.
round 5
AC: 13, hp: 11/18
"Fire on deck!" Quillin shouts as he reappears and hurls a Chelish cocktail at the creatures on the roof.
ranged touch 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
damage 1d6 ⇒ 2 fire
Dread Captain Devon
YEah sorry I think I missed my fluff text. Ajani has enough hands/actions/seconds to see the chest and drag it out and close the door.
The flask shatters against the building and the now all too common sound of rushing flame comes to life and dances across the roof of the ramshackle hut. The creatures hiss in tandem at the sudden turn of events and both withdraw over the roof towards the tree that sits so close by, leaving everyone's line of sight.
Your actions
Quillin
Quillin watches sadly as the roof he'd hoped to comfortably shelter under goes up in smoke. "Now where are we going to sleep?! Bloody sneaks hiding in the tree. Undead whores and suicides everywhere on this damned island. I'm starting to think we were better off on the Wormwood!"
He looks to be working himself up into a proper gnomish tantrum when Smudge alights on the chest Ajani rescued. The parrot croaks, "Clever monkey! Clever monkey!"
Quillin recovers immediately as his eyes fall on the chest and brighten with a curious light. "Clever monkey indeed, Smudge. What you got there, Ajani?" He moves over and quickly opens the chest to see what it holds.
Dread Captain Devon
As the gnome fiddles with the clasp on the chest a small "crack" sound and then a hiss erupts from the chest's barely opened mouth spraying the wizard in the face. Quillin collapses to the ground and is unconscious. And will be so for 1d3 ⇒ 3 hours without magical aid
Inside the chest are a collection of journals, pouches in both leather and velvet, a silver tankard and a silver locket as well as 3 finely tailored outfits.
Also can be seen the mechanism affixed to the lid of the chest that apparently broke a small glass vial and sprayed it contents out of the mouth of the chest.
Quillin
Smudge leaps into the air in alarm as Quilin keels over. The bird circles over the small still form squawking, "On your feet, you filthy swab! On your feet, you filthy swab!"
no fort save? looks like we're resting here. at least I am. don't leave me alone with those creepy little tree things.
Ajani Ihejirika
Ajani gives a quiet sigh, staring at the gnome lying unconscious on the ground. "I'd rather carry him somewhere safer than here, personally. Whatever was in those trees is not likely to leave us alone. We can look at the documents and other things from the chest once we're in a more secure location."
Bartolomeo da Cofresi
Bart stands and pats Mel on the back none too gently. "Thanks, Lass. I owe ye one." He is then immediately distracted by a popping sound over his shoulder. He turns around to see the gnome fall on his back and his parrot squawking. "Bet'er off ina Wormwood fer sher."
Quillin
What time is it, GM? Must be near dark at this point.
OK, i'm unconscious so I can't really add to the conversation, but do we really want to walk back through grindy beach and ghoul forest in the dark? At least we have walls and a roaring campfire right here. I mean who wants to carry the unconscious spell casters? I say smoke out and shoot the tree creepers and hang tight.
Hassan Al-Quorri
Just FYI, Hassan can make a Con check (DC 10, with a penalty equal to his negative hit points, currently -4) each hour to regain consciousness. However, without First Aid he will take a point of damage each time he fails, and will not regain hit points.
Fjori, as the only currently conscious party member who seems to have the Heal skill, a First Aid check at the first reasonable opportunity would be greatly appreciated.
Fjori Ulfsson
Ah..thank you for reminding me Hassan..I keep meaning to do that, but then forget!!
Looking over the downed Qadiran, Fjori attempts to rouse him using some of the less-than-tender methods he had been taught while a mate on a dragonship.
Heal: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Dread Captain Devon
Since we are in the summer months the light is late but even that is fading. As you all tend to your unconscious casters the hut continues to burn. In the tree there is occasional hiss of the creatures but the do not descend (yet) to attack. The life and sounds of the jungle entering night begin as some things quiet and other things come awake and fill the air with their cries.
Wil you stay or will you go now? Buh duh bud du duh du doo..
Dread Captain Devon
Sorry for the delay. Turns out my family needs to move by month end which sort of disrupts my plans and is going to chew up a lot of my time in preparation. I appreciate your patience.
With Mel in the lead, studiously looking after the map, the trek to the wreck is indeed much faster than before. Thanks to the map Mel managed to avoid at least one tiger and something "else" that certainly was trying to follow you all for a while.
At the ship things have improved a fair measure. Shortstone has managed to see the ship righted for the most part and repairs have begun. The sails, as much can be gathered for mending, are also being used as cover of sorts for the camp site that the crew has established. Most folks seems alive if in poor spirits a few complaining that without their rum ration they are in a world of hurt.
Ajani Ihejirika
Ajani does his best to cheer up the crew that he can, assuring them that once the effects of the rum ration are gone, they will be much better off for it. Additionally, he promises to search for more fresh fruit and nuts, as well as a better source of fresh water, for them to eat drink in the morning; hopefully that fare will be better than having to subsist on just the rations they have on the ship.
