Ajani- oh, command would have been good. I thought you were just suggesting a wild empathy or something. Maybe next time, there's no putting kraken, jr. back.
The weird creature charges at the octopus snapping its claws.
oh SNAP!: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9 +2 if charge allowed.

Seeing the others holding their actions to see how the two creatures react to each other, Ajani decides to do the same, figuring that charging into the fray would only invite physical harm upon his rather squishily-furred self.
Ditto!

And chaos does assuredly ensue. Entering the cavern the reefclaw jets at the octopus with claws and spines bared and closes the gap only to be immediately gathered up by the cephalopod's various arms. The reefclaw struggles for a moment only to be brought into the great maw of the octopus and practically bit in half.
As is its method the reefclaw flails in the octopus' arms as it shudder to death and thrashes about, its cruel spines savaging the octopus' face and tentacles. The octopus throws the corpse of the reefclaw away and a low gurgling noise fills the cavern. It sounds suspiciously like TTtrreeesssssppppppaaaaasssss
Since it is not moving and none of you are really in the cavern I won't call for init yet.

"AH, that ain't no fair. That's no natural octopoid, it's a devilfish. It may be short a tentacle, but it makes up for that in bad attitude. It spits blinding blood and its bite is nasty and venomous as well."
"It's still a sea creature though. Do you think you can set it straight, Ajani?"
do we still have fungal light? If not I'll send a couple dancing lights to illuminate the creature.

Question for our fearless leader: The Sealord ability for Aquatic Druids states that it works like Command Undead, which states that you can only control more than one creature if the multiple creatures HD total is not higher than your level. Does that mean that, since the devilfish's HD total is already greater than my level, attempting to Command it would auto-fail?

From your position its a 25 foot swim to the opening of the cavern and the devilfish was dead center in a room that was roughly 30 by 30. Since you all will know that it has reach its 40 feet or so to the devilfish with AoO being provoked if folks close to melee. There is still fungal/algae light. The current passage can fit two of you side by side. Those of you with swim speeds can charge. The water is at a minimum ten feet deep through out this section. Swim checks for those w/o speed and keep in mind that restricts your movement speed. What's the battle plan then as far as prep and getting up to the thing?

Huffing a disappointed breath at realizing the devilfish is too powerful for him to attempt to control, Ajani mutters an incantation at the conclusion of which his hand begins emitting a soft, icy blue glow. "Dangerous though it may be, if I can get close enough to touch the thing, I can help end the fight more quickly."

Hassan moves so that he is submerged up to the waist in water. He focuses his arcane energy, muttering incantations and performing waving hand gestures. He casts Touch of the Sea, first on Fjori and then Bart.
He looks to Quillin, but the gnome seems to be planning to stay back and cast from a distance.
Water Blast 6/7
1st Level Spells: 4/6
HP: 8/18
Hassan has a natural swim speed, so that's everyone except Quillin. I can also do Air Bubble, but I'm not expecting we'll need it for the duration of this fight. Those Touch of the Sea spells will last 4 minutes, grants a 30' swim speed and a +8 to swim checks.

Quillin hangs back in the passage as the tall folk adroitly swim into the devilfish's lair. The dim light of the phosphorescent algae above accentuates the pale bones that litter the widened passage and long thin black worms flute from empty eye sockets and pits in the broken bones below the tide line.
Ok throwing this out there.
Fjori- are you using push against the devilfish or as some kinda jet assist?

            A'ight. that's pretty good, Fjori.
Fjori swims forward with a tangible malevolence that rallies his crew mates against the horrible septepoid. A purple tentacle shoots toward the Ulfen. With a twist of the magical cutlass, Fjori directs a blast of water that knocks it aside as he moves in to threaten the great head.
Hassan stays back and sends bolts of arcane force that strafe the monster.
Ajani- moving yet or waiting until after Bart and Mel?

The sea monster responds to the humans' affront with a gargling howl as it releases a cloud of slimy black blood that stains the water dark as night around the thing. In an instant, it grasps Fjori in its barbed tentacles tearing the man as it pulls him toward its deadly maw!
Fjori- 15 hp, grappled; the good news is that the devilfish no longer threatens, the bad news is that everyone that approaches within 20 feet of the devilfish must make a DC 15 fort save or be nauseated. Also the blood provides total concealment underwater for the DF. It is still currently visible above water though.

Bart and Mel follow right behind Fjori, but are nauseated by the viscous unholy slime that fouls the sea water around the devilfish. Things look dire for the crew with both Bart and Mel crippled by nausea and Fjori likely to be torn to shreds by the tentacled abomination!
