What are you talking about? Darvik says. I saw something strange enough alright. I don't hear anything though.

Suspecting time was of the essence, Borax moves forward and inspects the gem for traps.

Prothero Crace

"Darvik, don't you hear the sounds of marching feet, and voice? I'm not sure where they're coming from... but I think they're coming this way."
Prothero attempts to determine which direction the sounds are coming from as he moves further into the room. He takes up a position along one of the walls and keeps an eye out for anyone unknown to him entering.
Take 10 on Perception for 19.

"I think we should prepare ourselves. This may be the other group from Totra Torch spoke of. We don't know what they want."
Defah IV Godspeaker

I'll have a quick look Borax, but then I think we ought to prepare for a battle.
Defah will cast detect magic, first looking at the gem. If it isn't magical, then he'll stop worrying about it for the moment.
After that, as time allows before whomever is approaching arrives, he'll cast ironbeard on Darvik and then shield on himself before taking up a position near the entrance, spear at the ready.

That's exactly why I'm counting UP. Where's it gonna stop? Tension!

Shoot Darvik and tell him we had one of the switches backwards. He can't see 5ft so he won't know what happened.

In case of ghosts: If someone's going to cast magic weapon on Prothero's bow or one of Darvik's sharp toys, the caster should be near the recipient. Looks like Teric is near Darvik now, so maybe that's how we do it. Defah's ready with ghostbane dirge, I imagine, do we have any other buffs to drop? Bless would be good.

After a few more moments, a trio of strangers comes into view, weapons drawn against whatever they might encounter. Seeing you, they lower their weapons and approach.
The leader, now resting his greatsword on his shoulder shouts across the chasm as he approaches, "What the hell are ye lot doin' down here?! Who in all blazes are yeh, anyway?"
The other two, a human male with a bow and half-elf female with rapier in its scabbard follow close behind him.

They look very out of place, as if they hail from the Land of the Linnorm Kings. Indeed, Borax is able to see bits of clothing which certifies this observation.

That depends. If your nice we're friends. If you aren't, we're foes. Darvik is clearly not in the mood for formalities.

Did Borax not know anything about the Land of the Linnorm kings from his rolls?

Teric looks at the others. "Settle down. He gave us his name. It's only fair." He looks back at Yjalk. "I'm Teric, and I'm a Varasian. We're here looking for some lost knowledge."
He points to the corpses sitting around the table. "It appears like there hasn't been people here in a long while. What kind of weapon are you looking for?"

It has no real bearing other than that's where he's from. For more information, check here.
Yjalk loosens his grip from his sword at the easing of tension and replies to Teric, "I come looking for a weapon to defeat a linnorm. That weapon by the fountain was too puny to take and not worthy of my strength! But if one is not here, I can at least get some plunder while I'm here in this damned desert."

These lot seem rather suspicious. Awfully big coincidence for them to happen to show up at the same time as those we were trying to beat to this place when no one but Pathfinders have been here in decades.
Defah watches the trio quietly; especially the two who aren't doing all the talking. If they're lying, those two might be the ones who give it away.

Neither Darvik nor Defah sense any deception in these people.
"One hears stories of the treasures buried in these ruins. Just surprised I ain't seen no spooks yet."
As if on cue, the brazier on the table flares to life in a plume of green flame. When it subsides, a shadowy figure is present. It wears the ethereal garments of an Emerald Sage, strangely enough, and looks straight at Borax with a hiss of rage. Borax and Prothero are able to identify this creature as some form of allip, the spectral remains of someone driven to suicide by madness. Undead, incorporeal, one question from Borax and Prothero each.

Beyond knowing their incorporeality and their undead-ness, Prothero recalls that they also resist positive channeling. His first shot strikes the allip, causing it to hiss some more.
Teric stands there fascinated by the hissing and babbling noises which the allip makes.
The allip, having better things to do than deal with an archer, floats towards Borax, reaching. "Give it back!"

What does Borax know about whether this creature can be reasoned with? His actions will depend on the answer. Assuming that it can't unless told otherwise...
Not certain if the release the ruby will make matters worse or better, Borax takes a step back, pulls out the ruby and drops it between he and the allip. He drinks his last extract of Shield, hoping for some defense against this creature.
