GM Waterhammer |
This is another bedroom, long vacant. A once grand four-poster bed sits on the floor, forlorn and ragged. Rubbish litters the floor, rat droppings and the like. A few wispy spider webs hang limply. They are clearly only the webs of normal sized spiders, not the thick masses that those over-sized spiders made. Mouse droppings are in evidence on the floor, here, and there.
This is the room directly above the one with the disembodied voice, but there is no sign of anything unusual about it.
Dred 'Scythe' Mardock |
Dred follows and peeks into the room from the hallway.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
You think there's anything under that bed?
Glandur Mithrennon |
Glandur steps into the room, and takes a look about. "Strange that Gustaff was so quick to see the ghosts, but we've yet to have our sighting, with only some voices to show for it."
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Nym Voron |
"Perhaps it was all just some old spells and thos bird/bugs we encountered in the attic. That would be enough to scare a few workmen away, I am sure. Perhaps there is something more, but so far it just looks like 'natural' occurrences!'
Dred 'Scythe' Mardock |
Dred removes the covers of the bed with the end of his quarterstaff before following the others down the stairs. He carefully jumps over the gap on the floor along the way.
Either we're missing something or this ghost only shows up at night...
Arelian Rastler |
"We still have the lower level to check out. Lets head back down there and take a look at the rooms we missed." Arelian said as he made his way down stairs.
Arelian goes to check out the remaining rooms on the east wing of the house and pokes his head in.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
I've updated the map to be on the first floor again!
GM Waterhammer |
The broken furniture remnants of this room indicate that it was a living area. All the furnishings are smashed beyond any repair. The dirt covering the floor is thick enough to support the growth of a semi-circle of tiny red mushrooms around the entrance of the fireplace. Many of the windowpanes are broken in the windows of this room, so it is quite damp, thus allowing the fungal growth.
On the subject of dampness, outside the rains seems to be have stopped for the moment, though water still drips from the eaves.
Glandur Mithrennon |
K(nature): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Oops, meant to edit the post, not double post. Sorry about that. You can use the above and assume a missed perception.
The elf kneels by the growth of mushrooms and takes a curious look at them. "Rubycaps?" Glandur wondered aloud, as he plucks a mushroom, sniffs it carefully, and pops it into his mouth. "Mmm-mmm. Fresh." He plucks a couple more, and pops a second bite before offering one behind him to his hawk Vanya, who greedily gulps it before resuming its restful state.
Having satisfied his tastebuds (but not quite his stomach), the elf stands, and resumes searching the room.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Nym Voron |
"Like I said before, I do not think this place is haunted...or even inhabited, at least by intelligent creatures. I think the workers heard that weird mouth thing and then maybe disturbed the bird-bugs in the attic. That would be enough for me to want to run! I suspect we will find nothing else here, but we may as well be thorough and check out the rest of the place.:
Arelian Rastler |
Arelian continues moving down the hall towards the other room. "I agree. Though some of the things we've seen in the house would have been far too much for a work party to handle."
Arelian opens the door and takes a peak inside.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
GM Waterhammer |
@ Sarden: Just the dry rot areas from the second floor. That particular room is directly below the one with the homunculus.
@ Arelian: I assume you meant this room. Moved your 'piece' to where the door is. Yeah it's a little hard to see the doors on this map. Sorry about that.
This may have been the 'withdrawing' room, or perhaps a den. Two stuffed armchairs stand near the fireplace. Their fabric has been slashed and most of the stuffing pulled out. One of the chimney stones is loose, about 3' above the mantle piece.
Arelian notices that eyes are watching him from inside the shadows of the fireplace. Spider eyes.
Glandur Mithrennon |
Glandur sighs at the tedium of finding everything but the ghost, as the wizardy elf follows the group from room to room.
Moving room to room with the group. Will move myself by Arelian shortly.
Arelian Rastler |
"More spiders!" Arelian said as he pushes open the door to the room ready to attack the spider the eyes belong to.

Spiders?! Where are the apparitions? Glandur peers in with his readied crossbow, looking for signs of the spiders.

SA Fire bolt. MA Reload. Cover(-4)
Bolt!: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 - 4 = 10 Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 8
As the elf prepares to fire off a bolt, the hawk stirs, and the shifting causes an errant shot from the Glandur.
GM Waterhammer |
We'll assume that Dred is delaying his action, for the purpose of moving the game forward. Sorry Dred. :)
The spider climbs out of it's protective chimney, and shoots a gob of web at Arelian's chest.
Web: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
The web gob flies high and wide, sticking to the far wall instead.
Sarden, Jordi, Dred. Go! The spider no longer has cover.
Sarden Turoc |
Sarden, uncharacteristically, takes a swing at the spider. :)

wow! maybe Sarden should swing more often :)
"Gods, I hate spiders!"
Dred 'Scythe' Mardock |
Looks like we're not updating the maps for now and playing gridless? Either that or I'm not seeing the spider... Should I roll a perception roll IRL?
Initiative: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13 well, I really did end up in the lower bracket
Drake goes down the stairs, What's going on? Has someone found the ghost???
double move from up-stairs.
Arelian Rastler |
[ooc]Not 100% sure from the context if the next round is up. But I'm stuck on night shift and my sleep is everywhere right now. So just slot this in as needed![/occ]
Now in full range of the beast, Arelian slices quickly at the spider with both his blades.

Glandur Mithrennon |
With the group crowded around the poor spider, Glandur keeps an eye out for other threats while leaving the lone critter for his allies to take care of.
Delay until an opening comes up or another threat appears.
GM Waterhammer |
Nym's slash misses the spider. The eight legged monstrosity seems unnaturally adept at being somewhere else at just the right time.
With it's animal intellect it remembers who hurt it. The spider leaps at Sarden, jaws gaping.
Spider: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Sarden shifts his shield, easily deflecting the spider.
Initiative is now decided by order of posting. Dred, Jordi, Sarden go, go, go.
Jordi of Kenabres |
That spider is really elusive! Says Jordi while making a trust move with its sword to try to impale the creature with it.
Greatsword: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 82d6 + 4 ⇒ (1, 2) + 4 = 7
Argh, no way, get out of it, pest!
Shouts Jordi, as the spiders gracefully hops to the sword's blade after the failed trust.
Arelian Rastler |
Arelian cuts at the spider once again!

Glandur Mithrennon |
With his crossbow drawn and loaded, Glandur continues his lookout work, while his pet hawk Vanya peers at the spider, making sure it does not try to move towards the pair.
GM Waterhammer |
Arelian's main sword cuts into the spider's hairy body, causing droplets of green goo to drip on the floor. Not enough to kill the spider though.
The spider bites at Sarden as he backs away.
Spider: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Dred can act...
Round 3 go!
