"Ooh! Ooh! Maybe we can climb outside the windows and come back inside in another room? I'm not so good at the climbing, but I can do the hopping if that's okay...."
Gaevus can use Acrobatics, but sort of has a terrible Climb....

![]() |

This plan works. and you can all make your way through the mirror portal.
The mirror transports you into the tower, where the southeast corner of this room has broken off along with part of the floor. Rubble, loose bricks, and masonry litter the edges. Beyond the opening, blue sky and the Absalom’s city skyline are plainly visible. A solitary door is closed to the south and a full-length mirror is bolted to northwest wall.
You find that the door is held shut by a heavy column on the other side, which Ivan easily pushes out of the way. The remainder of the floor appears to be structured as a keep against a siege attack. One room contains an armory of mundane weaponry, another contains a pair of cots covered in moth-eaten blankets. Finally, you find a set of stairs that leads further up the tower. They lead to a closed door at the top. You have a bit of time before all this happens to buff/heal if needed. Ivan does need to squeeze up the stairs as is. Roll20 updated.

Should we wait for Genta to get back before we start anything crazy?
Gaevus nudges Yitza. "How many more buffy buffs do you have today to spare? Maybe you can help me out...?"

![]() |

Rather than arduously walking up all those stairs, Genta floats up to the door using her flight hex. Looking at the ceiling, she gets an idea. "Hey. You know, maybe I could actually zip through the ceiling and do some scouting. I've never tried that before."
Genta considers her plan, wondering how dangerous a bit of her own interplanar travel would be here in this floating tower.
Knowledge (arcana or planes): 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (3) + 22 = 25
After everybody is done buffing, Genta casts invisibility and blink, and then flies through the ceiling, hoping it's less than 5 feet thick, though once she's in, she's going through if at all possible. Once and if she makes it to the ceiling, she looks around as quickly as possible. Then she zips back down to report.
Invisostealth: 1d20 + 3 + 20 ⇒ (1) + 3 + 20 = 24
"Then again, maybe let's just take the door," she concedes, and casts invisibility.

Did we ever heal back up to full? I didn't realize until now that I'm still marked as hurt.
@Max: Did you burn a channel for the party after the explosive fire hag?

R1 pulls something from his pack, drinks it and disappears.

can i get word of god on how many feet of movement it takes to get out the door into the first square on the second floor? I think it's about 30, but uphill, so I may or may not be able to engage R2. I was also debating trying to shove him 10 ft off the tower - are there battlements? I guess the other important question is if Gaevus somehow kills him on ripostes?

Yitza begins singing, and although the tune is somewhat wistful and melancholy, you still feel inspired.
"I've looked at clouds from both sides now,
from up and down, and still somehow
it's cloud illusions I recall.
I really don't know clouds at all."
If I'm interpreting roll20 correctly, half the party is standing on the stairs, while the stabbity people are up on the roof/upper floor at the top of the stairs? If so, I'll spend my move action to at least move up the stairs towards them, in case the way becomes clear.

Takes you 50 ft. to get where you are now. So you're good with expeditious retreat and a single move.
Yitza - I moved you to where you would be with a 20 ft. move.
The two complete stairs squares are difficult terrain, the others are not. Max is standing on the top of the 2 stairs spaces that are visible on the lower level, but is on the higher level map (since it's the same space).

The top floor of the tower is an open, undivided by interior walls but for the small space partitioning the stairwell. Windows large enough to step through line the exterior walls. Immense magical circles are permanently etched into the floor, their lines and curves inscribed and filled with several types of metallic powder. Faint, multi-colored mist roils within the southern circle. Two strange contraptions stand near the northwest and southwest windows. Each device is a large, red-tinted crystalline lens mounted in a frame so that they may be angled in all directions.
It is a flat +30 ft., not limited like haste. The window is large enough to knock him through. I'm going to say 15 ft. of bull rush for the combination of needing to get him through the window and it being two diagonals.

![]() |

I'm assuming this happens before Yitza Inspires Courage. Let me know otherwise.
Gaevus will parry his foe's poor attempts to use a rapier!
Parry: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (9) + 20 = 29 vs. R2's first attack
"This is how you do it!"
Riposte: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (11) + 22 = 33 vs. R2's AC
Damage: 1d4 + 12 + 5 + 0 ⇒ (4) + 12 + 5 + 0 = 21 total damage (16 magic slashing, 5 precision, 0 sonic)
Seeing his foe's fumbling attempts at using a rapier, he will allow the second attack to go unchallenged.
EDIT: This doesn't actually happen, based on the adjustment below, since Gaevus doesn't have step up.

![]() |

A quick glance to the left tell Ksarress this foe is probably too far to smash through the window, and besides, no one tends to live very long vs Gaevus. Glancing to the right, he sees something that sure looks like a summoning circle which is always bad news, and breaks for the elf, quick drawing a guisarme to make sure they can't easily escape.

![]() |

This is what happens if you run to far ahead! Fetch calls out, casting haste on herself, Ivan, Yitza, Max, Genta, and Renyrd.
Ivan moves awkwardly past Max, then unfold his wings and rockets toward the elf holding the sky key.

The floating tower begins to shift, tilting slightly to one side. A shower of debris rains down on the lawn and buildings below.

"I--wait, what?" Gaevus looks confused as his attention shifts from his enemy to the floor shifting beneath him.
Reflex: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (17) + 20 = 37
As he briefly grabs the contraption for balance, Gaevus shouts, "Um, guys, is this supposed to be happening?"
@GM: So with a DC 10 Acrobatics check, one could still 5 foot step to the left?

![]() |

I think Max would have to get to Gaevus first! In character, if Max asks, Gaevus will suggest that Max cast it on himself, just in case anyone takes a tumble.... Though I guess Ivan can do that too. Also Gaevus thinks this is fun, and is a good chance to show off!

![]() |

I don't think Fetch can target Genta with haste, on account of she's invisible. So unless Fetch can see invisibility...
Genta flies over quickly to the elf holding the Sky Key, correcting her attitude to account for the tilt of the tower. When she gets close to the elf, she casts a suggestion spell from invisibility (making herself seem to suddenly appear).
"That's a really terribly dangerous artifact, give it to me quick!" she says, earnestly.
Blink miss chance for Suggestion (low misses): 1d100 ⇒ 74
Bluff for the lulz: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (9) + 23 = 32
As Genta casts the suggestion spell, she has a flash of memory. "It's okay, I'm a friend," she adds in Elven, giving a little oomph to the Suggestion spell - just Amara Delisen of the Umbra Carnival taught her, early in her adventuring career.
Using Masterful Performance boon from the Murder's Mark chronicle sheet to add +1 to DC and CL of this spell. Against this elf, the total DC of Suggestion is 24, unless he gets a penalty on his save because this is such a reasonable suggestion.

Don't forget that people still have bonuses for various rolls from Act I! Genta has a bonus to Bluff, for example, if you really wanted to use that now.

So does Genta actually fly to that spot? Because that's definitely in the multicolored mist that is in the circle etched on the ground.
The elf, who it turns out is a human, watches as you fly closer, yet still hands over the Sky Key willingly.

Gaevus takes a skillful step around the fiery contraption to get closer to his enemy (and his friends) by using the incline to his advantage.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30 vs. DC 10 to ignore difficult terrain caused by incline
"Get back over here!" he shouts, tapping his Boots of Speed together (3 rounds remaining), and taking three quick slashes at the enemy who singed his hair. (I assume Gaevus is within 30 feet of Yitza when this goes down, to better take advantage of her Discordant Voice.)

So does Genta actually fly to that spot?
Haha no, she flies to another spot.
The elf, who it turns out is a human,
Did Genta just mistake him, or was there some kind of illusion?

![]() |

"Ha ha!" Genta laughs, skirting the weird mist as she flies away, doing her best to weave out of his reach taking the withdraw action. But she is aware that she's now probably a giant target. She flies directly for the safety of her friends, scanning for that guy's friend.
Perception: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (5) + 16 = 21
Assuming she can't figure out where he is from that
"Uh, you guys. I think I saw some kind of hand come out of that mist," she whispers as she gets close to them. "And... oh gods oh gods this is glowing ohhh no. The things I saw happen to people in Numeria who messed with technology... I saw this one guy who, his veins... and his eyes bleeding... and he sort of just hung in midair, and... aaaah," she frets, watching the Sky Key flash ominously in an erratic pattern in time with her blinking. "Uhh...here! Hold this!" She offers the Sky Key to Gaevus. "You're better at Keep Away than me! Grab this and then just hang onto it! It's okay, you're not blinking, so it should be totally safe in your hands probably."

Gaevus blinks confusedly at Genta. (I did have to read what you said twice!) "Uhh, are you sure? I mean, I can hold onto it, but my buttery fingers aren't the best at holding onto stuff. Sometimes I drop my own food, and I think I dropped my sword once?" Gaevus blinks again. "I'll take it from you if you want though! Just to warn you, I'm going to run at some bad guys though."
@Genta: Gaevus will hold onto the Sky Key if you hand it to him. He has a disarm CMD of 28, but he can hold it in his buckler hand oh no wait that will screw up Slashing Grace and he will be utterly useless. (Well, okay, -9 damage, but otherwise still able to fight.) Perhaps you want to give it to someone responsible and flying like Max? Or maybe a Bag of Holding! (You should totally not do that.)

![]() |

Awkwardly, Genta doesn't have the actions to hand over the Sky Key just yet (which I think is a move action). If someone else wants to spend a move action to take it from Genta, they can. The main goal is keeping it away from the invisible baddie with as few dimensional shenanigans as possible.

Yeah, you can hold it out as a free action, but someone needs to take a move action to grab it, or Genta needs to take a move action to hand it over. Or you could drop it as a free action. Nothing bad could happen from doing that with an unstable artifact.
