I'm heading to the Big Island Thursday morning and won't be back until Saturday night. I'll have my phone, so I'll have internet access, and thankfully I plugged in all the stuff ahead of time into the Campaign info, so I can actually try to run things. I'll be slow, however, because I'll only be able to post at night or while on the bus. But! I'll do my best to keep things moving. I'm unsure of how map editing will work on that front, but I'm sure we'll muddle through.

Oh i know! PM me your email addresses and I'll give you editing rights to the map!Perfect!

The map for the combat is called "attack at the Inn"

Thanks. I have no idea what we might need--but IC the characters might.

But combat already! Nice. This is going to be tricky.

By the way, Hayashi is still wearing his Warrior Kimono from earlier, so his AC is down 3 points from 17 to 14--he didn't change yet.

Are the saving throws listed under fort saves, reflex saves, and will saves for the antagonists all accurate? +7 seems like a high fort and will save for a ninja.

Also, I might see about spending some honor to acquire some resources. I have to reread the honor rules.

Oh, i forgot to tell you these aren't ninjas. They're half-celestial half-dragon balor paladin monk sorcerers with vows of poverty :p

j/k the +7 is a place holder. I'm changing it as we speak.

Since everyone's posted Round 1 and Surprise (except for Hu Baolin's Round 1 action), I'll just resolve everything in one swell foop.

not complaining, btw. Kinda glad ya'll did that, since I'm gonna be gonners and stuff this keeps actions moving and you guys can RP while i'm traveling and scrambling to do the things and stuff.

+1 to fell swoop. It's been around two weeks without a single dice roll--that's about 75% of the game.

Note:
Round 1 Action for Hayashi is another shuriken throw to down the ninja, and then move to O-9. I'll post my dice in the gameplay thread.

I suggest falling back to the central area so we can support one another around Baolin's room and the garden, and form ranks to protect against flanking/sneak attack.

I am used to having enemy saves and AC to write up the attacks and damage myself.

Same here that way combat gets resolved a little quicker and we get to right out cool combat posts since we know as we post whether or not we hit or affected our target with some spell or other ability.

Also if we are interested here is a....Baolin what would we call this....turn counter, turn memo....anyway this was something we used in an old campaign to kinda help keep track of everything.

From PbeM, I'm used to doing all the rolling (for a variety of reasons) and doing actions only in initiative order. So, I just defaulted to that.

But, I'm knew at this, and I'm willing to do anything that makes combat easier.

Jian Xi, you still have Round 1 to finish (because I managed to get everything confused for some reason, I think), and then once I've done the ninjas.

Let's go with your idea. You guys resolve your actions. I'm just not sure how to give you guys the AC and Saves data for the critters. is it in a spoiler int he beginning?

Although I normally prefer to roleplay my character's thoughts and actions, I actually really like how you wrote this overall: very cinematic, and it helped bring our scattered posts together. It's like submitting a script to a TV show and then recognizing the events. 'I wrote that? Awesome!'

Jade Moon wrote:

It seems that mind-affecting is going to be the norm for the first few levels--charm and sleep are very powerful now.

I do think that the difference will show afterwards. Wood-mages, kitsune tricksters and void summoners get more distinct spells at later levels, so it probably won't be an issue later (at least in terms of flavor).

Jian Xi wrote:

I'd actually prefer not to assume we hit and/or defeat enemies. The targets we see may not be all what they seem, or there might be traps in the way that we do not know of. Assuming that we hit hurts immersion and is sort of metagame-y. I'm OK with keeping the information in the DM's hands.

As long as the ninjas don't actually turn out to have vorpal swords and are reskinned pun-puns...

Edit:
@Combat:
Actually, seeing that the ninja was defeated in the first round, could I throw the second shuriken at Ninja 8 instead. I'll post that, too.

Ahha! i took a quick look at one of Boalin's games and saw what you meant about posting the critters' stats.

so, the gist is: i write pretty descriptive text and then somewhere (probably the top so it's easy to spot) i post important stats like AC, saves, and conditions for the critters you're facing. Then, you guys do all the work for your characters and I write pretty text summarizing your actions while including stuff for the critters. OK. Cool. I can do that.

I prefer posting in order of initiative. But, I just realized that that's not what I did with this combat. And, it wasn't that hard to sort everything out. Let's have everyone post their responses and I'll sort everything out. I can do that pretty easy.

sorry if i'm confusing everything. i'm quite tired

Ok, you can do the shuriken. Ya the tree gives partial cover. You hit, btw, they have AC 14, so you can write your flavor text. I'll incorporate everything together with Jian Xi's action, and then things will be more standardized from then on out.

As an aside, I'm flying out in 2 hours, so I wont be able to make any adjustments to anything until Thursday night my time.

Oh and thank Narukami, for the props on the flavor text, I try my best at that thing. But, really, it's because you guys gave me so much to work with! You're just tops.

I'm going to be focusing on battlefield control spells mostly, but there are only three 1st level Wood spells, and Charm Person was the most useful of them, I think, at least for now.

I keep trying to convince them that this stuff is boring. But, dangit we took the good kids this year. So far we've seen Imiloa astronomy center, a marine sanctuary "Exploratorium", the tsunami education center, And a bunch of cultural sites.

I've been thinking.
What's our policy on botting or controlling players in combat? 1 post/day or 2 days minimum or be botted in combat?

I said i wanted a 1/48 hour commitment. If you guys want shorter, i can make it shorter. But, i think once post per two days is quite fair, and botting happens after.

that said, I'm updating tomorrow :) the trip did not go well.

So, I uploaded an XP tracking doc. I'm gong to try to track XP. I never do this in PbeMs, because I can just say "hey you're at this point in the plot.. time to make you this level". But, since Kingmaker is a sandbox, it's kind of important to track this stuff. So.. there we go. We're going to use the fast advancement track, because if I have my way, you'll be 20th level when you go to the final boss.

GM, Players, lend me your eyes. I almost never lose one.

I do this for a few PBEMs, so I figured no harm in offering here too. I've made a loot tracking spreadsheet, complete with figuring our our wealth by level progress. The way I track things is that it all goes into unallocated (far side of the sheet) until someone expresses interest. Then I move it to their column and the math re-figures itself. Because I am terrible at math. So if it's of any use, it's there.

For starting gear I was nowhere near boring enough* to go through and itemize everyone's stuff. I took the max gp per class and subtracted out whatever loose change we had left on hand. So you have a virtual item called starting gear, which is close enough.

I assume the pins are a plot item and thus value is immaterial. The horses are a different story. Draconic one amid the ash and flame, what manner of horseflesh have we acquired?

*And I am normally incredibly boring. Blogging about nineteenth century America boring.

Not yet. Since they are tied and secured, and we are inside an inn, I thought he might include it in his report to Baolin-Sa so we may all determine whether we want to lift horses of questionable origin.

Besides...shinobi never use an enemy's sword unless they clean it...

Whatever that means.

The horses are light horses. They are not combat trained, though.

so, i guess they're 75gp each?

I'd say it's accurate for my own. Thankfully, Hayashi's face is mostly covered, so it's up to the imagination and description.
