Shadow of the Colossus (Inactive)

Game Master Batista Grave

This game will be an attempt to put the game into pathfinder.

Welcome, mighty champions. I am GM Dormin. I will be running something of a homebrew/experimental campaign inspired by shadow of the colossus. Every fight is a massive Boss fight. Some special rules and conditions will be set up to give the feel of the Colossus game. I am looking for a 4-5 player party who would be interested.

Rules: You must be medium sized or smaller
Any class is allowed though some specifics may be changed.
I do not plan on making a map because, well, there is only one enemy to fight, and most of the time you will be right under or on said enemy so I do not see a point to it. (Subject to change)
Seeing that this will be a 4-5 v 1 battle the "colossi" are going to be pretty powerful and have some abilities that may not exactly be part of the pathfinder society. I will do my best to keep within the rules but with this, I may need to veer off just a bit. The "colossi" will not be from the game. I will be building each Colossi as if I was making a charecter I would play, so it may take some time between battles while I make the next one.
If you have any questions please ask. I will work with you if you just ask.
Money will be normal and you may build your champions any way you see fit.
The Colossi (as per the game) Will have weak spots you must find and hit in order to bring them down.
Start at level 7. The first beast will be level 10-12 as a test run. If he is too powerful for the 4-5 champions then I will nerf him.

AND THATS IT, pretty easy yes? I try to make life simple for my players. Again if you have any questions please feel free to ask.

Sczarni

What is the stat system gonna be? Point buy? Roll? Are there any magic item limits? Is there an armor or weapon limit? No +X weapons or something along those lines? Alignment restrictions?

I plan on making a Trophy Hunter (Ranger Archtype) Human. My only question after that is will you allow Advanced Firearms?

It will be a 25 point build. Magic items are allowed. No alighnment restrictions. +X weapons allowed.....your going to need them. As far as Firearms goes. We will see. A warning to all...it might, JUST MIGHT be a good idea not to neglect your climb or ride ability.

I might be interested in this...

What sources are allowed?

I will accept any type of champion you can make out of THIS website. http://www.d20pfsrd.com/ I build almost all my Champs with this so it is fine for you to use.

Vandre Quickstep would like to apply. Currently playing the game on PS3 so it'll be nice to see it come to life in Pathfinder form.

Vandre is only missing equipment.

I will be submitting a Fighter(Two-Weapon Warrior) soon.

Can we use Peicemeal Armour?

Say we use it to build the Base Armour then take the highest category for the overall and then modify it with Special Materials?

So you'd have an adamantine arm and steel everything else? I don't quite understand how the piecemeal armor works, but I'll roll with it if you decide to do that.

Still working on a character and profile.

GM, you didn't answer my last question about Advanced Firearms. Please take a look and tell me your answer.

What I am suggesting is We put the armours stats together and then we add the Special Materials as a Suit.

So:
Torso: Plate
Legs: Banded
Arms: Chainmail

Pay for that then pay for the Mithril/Adamantine Upgrade for Full Suit of Heavy Armour.

Basically trading off Arcane Spell Failure in exchange for cheaper Full Plate Stat Line.

Vande the game im making will only be inspired by the shadow game. You may see similarities but once again, this is as close as I can get it. Azaelas I will have to think on what your doing. It really doesn't make much sense to me just because im so use to just using a set of all one type of armor. If you tell me how that impacts your AC and give me a logical reason why you want to complicate your armor then 9 out of 10 I will let you do it. But I do need a reason. As far as firearms, I feel that it would not be a good idea to have them. The "Best" gun, is a musket. A very inacurate but powerful weapon. For these fights accuracy may be the better option. So I just won't give you the temptation. Players will not get to use them. Sorry Sinblade. Also, once everyone is done with their champions please email them to me at bbuchanan630@gmail.com

Also, a word of warning. This game is going to get difficult and fast. I am giving everyone the time between now, and when we start to opt to back out. I do not want anyone quitting halfway through because they think it is too hard. I want everyone to understand you will be fighting Colossi, one of the most fearsome creatures in the mythological world and I am going to make each Colossi unique and powerful. Kill one though, and the rewards will be more then fair.

I am perfectly fine with fighting through a slug of bosses. Vandre is more than ready and prepared to climb and teleport his way around.

Sound fricken awesome ill be making a possible in barbarian/rogue(archetype acrobat)/ shadow dancer.

Sczarni

So no advanced firearms. Eh, I'm ok with this. A +1 Reliable Musket is still a good weapon, and if I'm using alchemical cartridges I'm still liable to misfire. Totally works!

Still leaves me with a "butt-load"[/firearm joke] of money to spend. Should we prepare as though we are the only ones on the island and will have to live off the land?

On getting gear how much do we have to play with since people are talking magic items and what not how do we judge?

I will not exactly answer that first question. And you misread the question but alright you can use a gun...though. The second question I will not answer for you. If I told you everything you would prepare for what I have in store for you....so your on your own for that one.

Alexo look up at some of the previous posts I made. Your answer is there. There is a website there that can allow you to have all your questions answered.

Would you allow Psionic characters?

I like the look of a Piecemeal Armour suit over the Full-Plate image. Though I tend to hate the cliche Knight in Shining Armour in favor of the Hedge Knight image...

Really the only advantage I will get is Full Plate Protection in exchange for increased ASF with around 1/5 the cost. I am just thinking if it is supposed to be difficult this system would allow us to get some potent Armour without sinking a Massive Chunk of Wealth into it. I can make do with standard armour though.

linkified source.

WBL for a 7th Level Character: 23,500GP

EDIT: Using Piecemeal Armour I also get a -4 ACP instead of a -6 ACP.

Azaelas, go for it. The link is fine so I am ok with you wanting to save a bit of money. Anoirtrou I have some SERIOUS issues with Psionic characters right now. Mainly I never have had to take the time to figure out what they can or can't do. For this game, I am going to say no because I don't know what they can do. I would let you and read up on it but it takes me about 3 days to make each individual colossi that you will be fighting. I have a friend making up other things for you to fight between each Colossi to keep you guys from being bored.

Thank You Comrade!

Now to figure out whether a Katana or Scimitar would be best...

Sczarni

Depends Azaelas, do you want to Coup de Grace? If so, Katana.

Coup De Grace on a Colossus... I am loving that image...

But I am probably going to go Scimitar...

Sczarni

I loved the video game, so sign me up!

I'll offer a Changeling Sorcerer/Dragon Disciple.

Before I build, how are we determining health? PFS standard, full HD at 1st, then 1/2+1 HD from 2nd onward?

EDIT: What about traits?

Also what Experience Path are we using?

Fast, Medium, Slow, PFS-Style, or Story Based?

With Ravagwen signing up that makes 4 dedicated players and one maybe. I will take no more then six players. I am already going to have to beef up the first fight as it is.

I see one fatal flaw in all of this group. I see no healer of any sort. I will not let you play this game without someone being either a designated Bandaid or have some form of high healing capacity.

Ravagwen to answer your post. YES, the golden standard of Pathfinder. As far as Traits go I think I will be ok with any. If something just seems off then ask me about it and I will tell you yay or ney.

As far as experiance points go this is where we are getting out of the realm of the norm. Because these are my homemade creatures I am claiming GM rights to mess with the house rules. Don't worry, you will get your levels. I will see to that.

So Story-Based. Hallelujah...

I am guessing No re-slotting of items...

& by Abadar's name I am turning into one of my Arena Players...

I'd be interested in creating a healing capable character. I'd have in mind a 3rd party monk archetype from Rite Publishing's Monk Archetypes. I'd be happy to send you the specifics of the archetype if that's something you'd be willing to use.

I am willing to run an Oracle... Though I might need to open a thread and some time to build them...

It has literally been a Year since I even thought of Playing one seriously.

Or I can run a Ranger, Paladin, Bard, or if there is some way to get Healing Spells on a Sorcerer.

Azaelas seeing you have been here longer, I do not want you to have to change what you want unless it is a last resort. Lareg I would like a link of all the Archetypes you are thinking about making. Azaelas has been working on a fighter and I feel it would be fair to look into your interest in making a healing capable champion. Send me what you are thinking about Lareg and we will see what happens.

Azaelas as far as re-slotting items goes, there is some concerns I have. Your champions have a lot of starting gold to play around with. For less then half, you can increase over 3 of your stats by +2 which is a huge bonus to your champions I would have to take into account when making the next colossi. For the sake of what kinds of fights you will be having I am going to say no to the Re-Slotting of items.

Why is it I all of a Suddenly want a Monk/Ninja/Unarmed(or Brawler) Fighter with a Headband of Mighty Fist...

But I will build my Fighter & Start on a Oracle if I need it.

I am sorry Azaelas but I took a look in the rulebook and saw something about re-slotting items I did not like. No re-slotting for anyone.

What did you see?

Do you have a preference for email or private message on the boards? (edit: I went ahead and did email as it's a good bit of text.)

For 8000 gold you can get a belt of mighty fist and an amulet of mighty fist. Technecly in the book the Belt is the only re-slotting item as the amulet gives you natural armor bonus. If I didn't catch this and you did this then I would have no choice but to allow it because of the technicality. So I am swatting all of these forms of items now. It just works better this way.

Lareg I prefer email. I check it every day so if I miss it here, I will see it sooner via email. the email I use is bbuchanan630@gmail.com

Belt of Mighty Fist & Amulet of Mighty Fist? If they both give flat +X Enhancement Bonuses it wouldn't Stack.

The way bonuses are set up makes Reslotting to where it can't easily be abused.

Plus Reslotting is really the only way for a Monk to get a full +10 Enchantment. And then it costs them as Four +5 weapons for any one else.

Meaning you can outfit 2 PCs with a +5 Melee & +5 Ranged Weapons for what it takes to get the Equivalent of a single +5 Holy Speed Weapon.

I am sorry but this particular thing I am going to say no. The first colossi I built I made under the knowledge that you wouldn't use them. If you did I would have to go back and re-build it in order to keep it just slightly unfair to the players. You will have the numbers on your side most of the time but for the sake of realism I don't want a random headband to make the difference in the fight going from "Dear god help us" to "Man this GM SUCKS, he can't even build a good boss fight". See what I am getting at Fayth? The book words it weird so as far as re-slotting goes I am going to say no. The game will run just fine without them.

I did some number crunching and I can match the healing potential of the proposed 3rd party archetype with a multiclass paladin / monk that goes into the Champion of the Enlightenment prestige class.

It would all be stuff on the d20pfsrd site. So let me know if you'd be more comfortable with that and I can work up an message board alias with all the info.

I am dedicate just to let you know I've been quiet this whole time I'm making a barbarian/rogue (acrobat)/ shadowdancer with a great axe of shocking burst! :) going to have fun with this character

Where is reslotting covered because I have searched every book I know and don't even see it mentioned...

I am asking as a Fellow GM because I have read this system nearly up and down and haven't seen it mentioned in PFRPG.

Lareg I am perfectly fine with you taking a multiclass Paladin/ monk. I looked at your request with some concern about the monk archetypes. I feel much better about you doing a multiclass. Do that if you would be so kind.

Alexo thank you for sending another responce saying that you are dedicated. Just to warn everyone. I LOVE PROGRESS. if the game goes more then a day without someone posting I feel like I have failed as a GM. If you do not post at least once every 2-3 days I am assuming that you left my campaign. If this happens and you want back into the game please tell me why you failed to post and I will 9 out of 10 be more then understanding with you.

Azaelas I am going to ask you to take that question to GM Tirq. He is a good friend of mine and a VERY good GM. This is only my second attempt at actually running a big game so I hope this unique idea works out well. He has been helping me and is the man who suggested I do not do re-slotting. He will be much more knowledgeable of said question. I do not remember exactly where I found it but it was under his direction. I feel as though you know him from a different alias so do a bit of digging, find him, and ask him. It would be easier if a more experienced GM explained it.

Now, the time has come.... CONGRATULATIONS CHAMPIONS! You 6 have dedicated yourselves to this campaign. Your character building abilities will be put to the test in this adventure. Your luck will be strained to the utmost limits. I cannot say that you will all survive. So, for this first Colossi I will, if everyone dies, give you all a second chance. After that if your character dies it is not game over. I will let you, re-build a new champion and continue the game. I wish all of you the best of luck. May the gods have mercy on your souls.
