Shackled City (Pathfinder) - GM_Chris

Game Master Chris Shannon 719

This will be the Shackled City adventure path using the Pathfinder rule set. However, the existing deities (i.e. St. Cuthbert, Pelor, Wee Jas) will not be converted to similar Golarion gods.

Hearing Atol chant his prayer, Toffitt sighs in relief. He puts his hand on Atol's shoulder, indicating for him to back away. "Ser Percival, do you think it may be possible you were tricked by the hags? They were incredibly convincing. Powerful magics concealed their true natures—so powerful that even a strong willed holy warrior like yourself could be fooled. We would have been tricked ourselves, if Nidrama herself hadn't warned us of her false sisters."

"Dyrant No! Don't look in the mirror! I don't like it. There's something evil here even if Aralynn doesn't sense it. That mirror is wrong."

Does Alex look or act any differently under the protection from evil? Atol hopes it breaks whatever enchantment he may be suffering under at the moment though he knows it's not a fool-proof solution.

He edges for the door and gestures for the party to follow.

On Atol's advice, Dyrant avoids looking too much into the mirror, mostly focusing on the magic and auras.

Atol:
You touch "Alek" and his appearance drastically changes. You find yourself touching a hairless humanoid with mirror-like skin. He wears only a loin cloth with a leather belt, but has a wicked-looking shard of mirrored glass the size of a longsword. . You can react as you want, but make a bluff roll.

However, each one also wields a wicked-looking shard of mirrored glass the size of a longsword in each hand.

The first one walks up to Finneas, but doesn't swing either of his swords. Instead, his body seems to explode and shards of glass cut into Finneas, Atol, Toffitt, Glimmil, and Cog. The wounds are vicious and bleed quickly. The second one walks up next to Toffitt and catches Toffitt, Atol, Glimmil and Cog in the cone of glass shards. Dryant:
Kalareem Nerra. Neither evil nor good, little is known about the activities of these creatures. These extraplanar creatures can pass from one reflective surface to another and seem to be made of a mirror-like substance themselves. Their weapons are thought to be made of the same materials, but they always shatter upon falling to the ground. As already seen, they can send forth a shower of shards. While vulnerable to sonic attacks, they have resistances to electricty, fire, and spells, possibly even refelcting the attacks back.

Glimmil moves onto another mirror-skinned creatures and together with Cog is able to take him down. Both swords shatter upon hitting the ground.

Aralynn manages to avoid being hit as she rushes to heal Atol. Dyrant twirls like Aralynn and doesn't provoke from the dual swords as he backs away and gives his attacker a scornful look.

Finally, Finnneas chops the creature before him into two pieces while the two swords burst into fragments.

The last creature jumps back into the mirror.

On a side note that no longer matters, Glimmil actually had to move to J6 for the flank. He can then continue to J5 for the attack on K2. Only a single attack, but the second missed anyway. By RAW I don't think this is allowed (changing a 5' step to a move), but I've alway allowed it. Just wanted to note it.

Going back to what Dyrant would have seen just prior to combat.

Re-cast Detect Magic. Look around again. Bring the plate back out. Begin to re-puzzle.

Dyrant ponders the mirror, the metal plate, and his knowledge of the nerra. The six-armed creatures obviously built the mirror, but it's unclear if they enlisted the help of the nerra, encountered them after building the mirror, or if the nerra took up residence after the ancient race disappeared.

There are no numbers or writing in the room so Dyrant is unsure what to do with his existing set of numbers at this point.

Glimmil kneels next to each of the colored shapes scratching his head as he examines them.

"Feels like a puzzle. I hate not solving a puzzle. Although there's not really anything for them to unlock that I can see? Maybe if we press them in the right order, this whole room will fly us somewhere where Alec is kept?"

Glimmil moves and kneels next to the purple shape and works furiously to interact with it... pushing on it, pouring some water from his flask on it, and speaking gnomish at it.

Glimmil ends up with a rather striking mixed-media artwork as the water and glass shards are arranged over the purple, but nothing happens.

Dyrant strokes his chin.

"Come now, Glim, Doctor. Let's puzzle this out." Dyrant holds out the metal plate. "Is there something here? Or just more illusion?"

"Of course, Doctor, maybe there is another throne with mirror for us to beat our heads upon," Dyrant says dryly before turning to Aralynn.

"Aralynn, would you stay here and let us know immediately if anything emerges from the mirror? I don't expect trouble, but this mirror is not something we understand."

To the other room.

M Steinneblin (Rock Gnome) Paladin 16/Cavalier 1

"Five mirrors, five colors... that must be something. Maybe there's five throne rooms, too?" Glimmil offers in a cheerful note, as he examines his "mixed media artwork" fondly.

Some day we'll need a throne room in Jzadirune. And I can sit upon it with Skie by my side!

Glimmil almost walks into the wall on the way out of the room, lost in thought.

The party leaves the mirror untouched as it explores a bit more. They walk past the other throne and head west. A couple more door swooshes and the party finds itself at a room with three large beds. Along the north wall hangs a set of golden baboon masks. The smooth, stone walls and the floor are covered by colorful and bizarre tapestries and carpets. An elaborate weaver's loom occupies teh southwest corner. Various skeins of wool of many different colors are piled near the lom, next to a basket of sewing tools. A wooden chest sits in the southeast corner.

A six-armed skeleton stands in each corner of the room holding a 6"-diameter disc of an unknown substance; it glows with a bright light that slowly shifts through the visible spectrum, becoming red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet in a matter of seconds.

The skeletons each hold onto their disks with two hands, but move up and try to claw at the party with their four remaining hands. One finger manages to scratch Glimmil across his cheek.

Round 1, Init 18

Glimmil hesitates for a moment as the skeletons close, glancing towards the doctor and awaiting Toffitt's predictable acrobatics.

Defer to Toffitt to see if he tumbles in for the flank. If he doesn't then Glimmil will move back 5ft to I,29 in the hope that one of the skeletons advance into the pocket he creates.

Finneas changes to a more appropriate weapon as Dyrant begins a spell to help him out. Atol also blesses the party and the choices seem wise as the skeleton withstands all three attacks. Toffitt smashes his hammer on the back of the skeleton's skull; it cracks in several places, but does not break. Cog crushes its ankle enough to trip it and Glimmil smashes it also before guiding Cog back a few feet.

The skeletons decline Glimmil's invitation and instead all turn on Toffitt. They claw and scratch at Toffitt from head to toe, but Toffitt remains unharmed. The glowing disks continue their rhythmic pulsing and color changing.
